- The mummified body of Sylvester the gunslinger is in remarkable condition with every minor detail preserved. The same, however, can’t be said for his origins.

Well hello
1:47 BUT THEY FUCKING TOOK OUT THE BRAINS BEFORE THEY MUMMIFIED EM SO I THINK THAT PAD IS FAKE!!
Adrian Mzyk Mummification can happen naturally, it just depends on the climate and conditions the body is left in.
Hello 😏
@@adrianmzyk7105 he wasnt mummified by the egyptians mate
I saw him in the museum in Seattle. It was extremely unsettling but powerful. I could stare into the eyes of a man that lived way before me.
He had a childhood, he grew up, he laughed, cried, lived. This is someone who had an entire life long ago in a country that would be unrecognizable to me today. And I’m now standing face to face with that man.
I felt kind of gross, almost like I was invading his privacy. But I also felt reverence for him.
For those who are curious, Sylvester was so well preserved because he was injected with an arsenic based fluid by an embalmer immediately following his death. Arsenic was used to stop the decomposition by killing bacteria and insects that invaded the body. This caused his body to dry out and subsequently, be mummified.
This is the reason why Elmer McCurdy's preserved corpse was still quite intact and recognizable 65yrs after his death;
Embalming with arsenic-based liquid
People here are talking about how bad it is that he's on display, but when everyone's forgotten me, I feel like it's a happy thought that people would still want to see me standing there
if i were to die i dont preferred to be buried, i want me on display on full clothes. but if it were my loved one. id choose one and would prefer it also on display.. i had chose one, but i let him buried under ground. but i would like to see his body once again..

Is not like Silvester knows what happened to his body and not getting any sleep because of this.
No...no they dont. In case you forgot, a bunch of REALLY horrible people exist.
Only faith in Jesus can give someone that
Nah, I think it’s too precious to be just « laid to rest ». These corpses need to be treasured and preserved well in the hands of people that know how to do so.

I can't understand how it's ok to have human remains on display in a shop. Especially if they are not family. Some kind of odd lack of common sense going on here.
susanht67 it should be illegal to that. it's so wrong.
susanht67 I enjoyed it as a kid, I even touched his mustache, back before they put him behind plexiglass.
It's not wrong or immoral. I wish I could put this in nicer words but you were raised so sheltered from the world I don't think you have an idea of what death is. People die, everyone dies, it's just human fucking anatomy. It shouldn't be illegal or wrong because it's interesting and useful. People see cool mummy preserved well, shop makes money. It's not exploitation or a horrible thing. It's just some random guy who might have been a gunslinger in the "Wild West" who died.
Aidan Morgan "I wish I could pit this in nicer words", you could. You didn't have to say fucking you fucking idiot. And humans do alot of shit that's unnecessary just out of respect. And there's something called respect for the dead. Which you're apparently unaware of. I personally dont care what happens to bodies. But some people do and there's noting wrong with it.
Catty Cattington Also, do you play Starcraft or did you just think that profile picture was cool?
Tombstone, Arizona... I was in the Birdcage Theater. All around, I got to see bullet holes and blood stains. The scariest thing ever was I went under the stage with a group of people. I looked under the main floor. I turn around and the crowd vanished. Scared of of my shoes, I ran back upstairs and the they were. It was silent down there. An uncomfortable silence...
When I die, I'd much rather my corpse be on display so I can give at least something to this world, showing history and answering possible questions people have. I'm absolutely not worried whatsoever where my body goes, because that's our temporary home, our home will be wherever we end up when we die, "respect" has lost it's meaning in our culture, and now has over 1000 ways of interpreting it. You'd be showing respect to a corpse if it had something to offer, showing it's true potential, even in death. Who cares if it makes publicity/income, you should honor the corpse for giving you that blessing, and preserve as long as you can.
I have a PHD in Moisture what if your corpse just added unexplainable things rather answer questions.
hey you remember that one spongebob episode with the Dutchman being mad he was on display
To a gangster and mobster respect is taking a life so you have a point there
Not me

Well that was very uninformative. Didn't say how he was mummified, we have to assume that it was the desert. Didn't say how he was killed, we have to assume it was a gun fight although they did not show any gunshot wounds.
cplcabs that's what I thought, very sensationalistic, with a hint or two at the possibilities they have to work him out, then giving no real information whatsoever.
Unworthy of the Smithsonian!!!
The guy was probably an accountant or something.
cplcabs - There was a visible bullet wound when I saw him.
They dont even know who he really was they made the story up its a john doe
Could also have been a heart attack or he could have died of thirst if it was in the desert.

2:39 here we go again to the old wild west😂
"it starts with a dead body" well damn I thought we were talking about living things, eh?
I still find it hilarious how just because he's preserved means it's okay to just keep a dead body out and even make money off of it
But he's dead. He can't feel it. Grow up
Have some respect for the dead, shitass.
Aidan Morgan I don't give a shit what they do I just think it's funny how we draw the line between what's okay and what's not okay

When I went to Seattle, I spent almost 30 minutes just staring at him and examining him.
Edit: Also, why didn't they mention that he had previously been in a fight where he was shot with pellets in the head but refused to have them removed even though that was a fairly safe procedure even back then?
Top Hatted Creature I did the same...I was 7 years old at the time. There was a shrunken head collection that showed up much later...that place had some stuff that gave me the heebie jeebies!

"HE IS absolutely THE coolest THING we have".
The guy seems to be a real cowboy of the day, in the wild west. I easily imagine him galloping on a horse with his Winchester... amazing!
This must be the reason why mummies in movies want to destroy humanity, because their dead bodies end up on display for people to look at.
Poor man. I hope his soul moved on somewhere else. He had such an amazing body inside and out. I wish they could put him somewhere else. Maybe a better museum such as the ones in DC.
Regardless it's great to see that his body isn't rotting away and had been forgotten. He is famous, and loved by many people. Something I think anyone would wish for.

Run DNA test so family can come sue you
Kajun Means Seasoned Not Hot! first of all if he had any family he probably wouldn't be there. Second of all why does everybody in America want to sue everybody? is that mommy ruining your life? Is he hurting you somehow? If you're offended by it don't go to the shop. simple.
Kajun Means Seasoned Not Hot! A lawsuit requires that the family demonstrate injury.
They would not win.

That's as funky, in a good way, as me finding out I'm related to Davy Crockett, and the person who started Webster's Dictionary. Haha!

Amazing, Thank you

1 question then I could careless is there bullet in him?
No, they stuck a tiny camera in the 'bullet' hole, it looks like it was made by a wood drill, after his dried out corpse had been found in the desert.
Those lumps on his forehead are rabbit-shot, used for pest control rather than in gun fights.
So he's more likely to have been shot at by a farmer for stealing vegetables, and died of starvation in the desert, than have been some dangerous, poker playing gunfighter.
I'd say give him a nice classy appropriate hat for him as a commerative piece
Coolest visual in the whole video...the footage of the computer doing it's scans....yea let's camera back to the guy talking??!
I'm no whining liberal. But displaying a dead body at a hokey desert tourist shop for profit is pretty F'ed up.
Stanley Potter how do you feel about Egyptian mummies in museums
+ DcodeReload
Egyptian mummies are thousands of years old and usually important hysterical figures like pharaohs and displayed in museums this guy died relatively recently 100 to 200 years ago as a victim of a crime this is like digging your grandfather and putting him on display.
Stanley Potter also, many museums have strict codes on displaying the body with respect and in context as far as historians know of, and are often better cared for than would have been in where they were found. but it is a controversial and interesting debate 😊
I am a whining liberal and I think it's awesome. Science and history.
It would be fucked up if displaying bodies for profit was unheard of, but it's not museums do it all the time.
