I was in Arequipa spring 2022 and went to see Jaunita. Several things stood out for me. First was getting my head around this accepted cultural practice intellectually. Many of these little children (4,5,6 year olds) were brought to Cusco by their parents in hopes they would be chosen for this "honor". My understanding is that the families of chosen children were rewarded by an elevation of their family status within their communities. Motivation I suppose? The other thing that this video doesn't mention but was very clear at the museum.....Jaunita's head was bashed in on one side. They contend that she wasn't quite dead when she was placed in her grave, and that they ended her life before burying her. But she was certainly drugged and hyperthermic by this time and certainly suffering from altitude sickness. Coca is still ingested today to alleviate the symptoms.
This isn't Juanita, she's a completely different girl, who was found on a completely different mountain. This is the Llullaillaco maiden. Why do people keep mixing them up? These two mummies look totally different!
ApeX MoDs how does that comment make this kid a sex offender exactly?? not a word to be throwing around lightly! not only that but a child can be cute just as kitten or a puppy can be cute. DOES NOT make someone a sex offender! choose your words more wisely!!
I heard somewhere that she was so drugged and intoxicated by whatever they were giving her that had they not suffocated her she’d most likely have died from overdose. Don’t know how true that is but I know from personal experience that when your overdosing you have no idea of what’s going on around you. I don’t think it’s right that they took her life but I’m more comfortable with the fact she didn’t suffer.
She was selected for her grit and charisma. She would have felt honored to sacrifice herself for her entire empire. In the eyes of the Sun God she was a symbol and death can come gracefully
No she was literally on selected for her beauty along with the rest that were sacrificed, bc the Incan kings and queens all wanted to inherit that, thinking by sacrifice they’d ascertain it. It’s sad what people will do for beauty

Yes its true. Even before being intoxicated she may have experienced stress, even hope. But it wouldnt be as terrible as we think her thinking would be, since she would be brought into the line of thinking an year before her sacrifice. So for 365 day, she would know what will happen and even though she would feel hopeless or scared, she'd think of it as an honour, a way she could help her own people. " died peacefully without violence" yeah she was just brutally murdered by intoxication and affixiation... and probably buried still alive... no violence in this...
Violence definition:behavior involving physical force intended to hurt, damage, or kill someone She died a slowly and peaceful death being intoxicated and with the lack of oxygen would've made her unaware that she was slowly dying she just fell asleep and died, a very peaceful way to die in my opinion, with NO violence the intoxication was not poison it was alcohol and the lack of air only made her more drowsy. Strangling her or choking her to death would be a *violent* form of affixiation and might I add she went there willingly she wasn't force to her it was a great honor to die for the gods so yes *No violence*
She believe her death was a great honor and so did her people. Before her death she was treated as a goddess and took part in many ceremonies with the Incan emperor herself. No one there not even herself believed her death to be cruel. She died the way any young woman in that time would want to die.
Queen Daily Whereas the other children buried with her especially the boy didn’t die as willingly or peacefully, there was evidence of what would have been an agonizing struggle on his part.
see a lot of people here commenting on how it was horrible that they killed her and how much pain she would have been feeling One. She according to her people was a chosen one from the gods and had to be sacrificed they treated her as a god Two. They drugged her therefore she felt no pain Three. She believes in this and belief is stronger than pain sometimes, knowing where she was going she was probably peaceful judging her face expression and the way she was found And four. Don’t compare the Mexica or Aztec human sacrifices to the Incan ones The Mexica or Aztec ones where sacrifices with a spear to the heart of a person because if they didn’t they believed that if the world would end And the Incas had a whole different religion! Just because she wasn’t buried in a pyramid doesn’t mean she wasn’t loved by her people
Im sure on a basic human level there was some anixety.... especially as it neared..why the drug increase... but that's normal. These killings were far kinder than aztec and mayan...and the best were given up to please gods instead of stabby stab...
Incas do abuse, conquer, and of course killed and even eaten human meat of weak villages that opposed to obey. Inca empire was one to love battle and expand his domains. there are several history evidence that Spain free those abused villages cooperating with them to end inca empire, thats why still nowadays you can see multiple ethnicities. things didnt happen like history told by england conquers that kicked out spanish colonies told. there still lot of myths and romanticize of incan civilization.

Some say they were carried there n some say they walked 1000 miles to their journey...if others carried her up there how did they survive the altitude? Just wondering
1000 miles is way off the scale : A long walk, but not that long. About the altitude: it´s not impossible for people who are well adapted: once, I was in a car at 16 000 feet above sea level, wondering how can those people walk in THAT snow with so that level of oxygen. But there they were, almost smiling.
I think it's presumptuous of us to assume she walked or was carried all at once. I think this trip probably would have taken weeks. It is my understanding that people who summit Mt. Everest make camp at different elevations for a few days to acclimate themselves to the air at each point. I would think this would have been a similar process.
How do ya know shes happy💁💁 her life was taken from her, she had no say in this at all. She died at such a young age. How can anyone say or know that she is happy? Im sorry but ik damn well i wouldne be happy or rest in peace at all knowing that i was sacrificed for a belief. She looks super sad to me. I do hope she is happy and moved on.

They have the priest basically in his underwear. At 22,000 feet? No, I don’t think so Smithsonian channel. They would have been bundled up. Not running around like he-man
Yeah, the priest is a chimu I think, they were people from the desert so that explains the clothes, but I don't think is right to put a chimu priest on an inca sacrifice ceremony, even considering that the chimus were conquered by the incas, their sacrifice methods were very different.
Hey man .. But was it really what science has said it was ? A ritualistic sacrifice? Or Was she a sacrifice at all? Or did she die of the treatment she received people gave her, because she was in awful pain because she had TB . They probably loaded her up on alcohol and coco as a pain reliever .. because of the tuberculosis? Then when she died they brought her to the atop of the mountain. It took the people probably 2 week to bring her there after she died. Along with the other 2 or 3 children she was found with. Did any of them have TB as well? But never mind about all that. , What the heck is that omen all about ? That lightning strikes to the face all about though?? And. How could lightning strike her in the face , if she was buried alive ?
I could be wrong in understanding but i thought they since she is out of freezing place now... the mummy will now start rottening. (Excuse me for wrong english)
Know that It was a belief back then and now she is eternal.. We know that her mummy will be preserved for so so so many years.. I'm not mad at the rituals. It's something every generation had like today there is cremation and burying which is also a ritual...bdw Look how beautiful she is..
what is the song called when it shows her being buried by the priest and i believe she had to have lived a glorious life to be sacraficed and to die with such honor
The crown should’ve been put in the case with her, because she basically gave her life just for some god. She was 14 years old and she should be honored with the crown
I think it depends on the culture. Incas saw sacrifices as a ritual to send their most beautiful maidens with the gods, therefore, you don't need to make them suffer during their deaths, and if can avoid the pain, even better, you don't want them to have an horrible experience. Aztecs saw sacrifices as a way to feed their gods with blood, usually of their prisioners of war, therefore, their pain was irrelevant for you, so, ripping out the heart was an easy and quick way to achieve that goal.
I'm really glad for her that she didn't feel herself dying. She's only asleep, but not breathing and she'll never wake up. She looks so peaceful...

Yes you’re talking about THE 6YR OLD BOY MUMMY Christ HE was hit on the head, NEITHER OF THE GIRLS WERE. so quit lying!
This isn't Juanita, she's a completely different girl, who was found on a completely different mountain. This is the Llullaillaco maiden. Why do people keep mixing them up? These two mummies look totally different!
she was so cute
ApeX MoDs how does that comment make this kid a sex offender exactly?? not a word to be throwing around lightly! not only that but a child can be cute just as kitten or a puppy can be cute. DOES NOT make someone a sex offender! choose your words more wisely!!
I dont mean to be rude but, thats what you think about when you hear about a girl being "gently suffocated"?
The preservation is remarkable
I heard somewhere that she was so drugged and intoxicated by whatever they were giving her that had they not suffocated her she’d most likely have died from overdose. Don’t know how true that is but I know from personal experience that when your overdosing you have no idea of what’s going on around you. I don’t think it’s right that they took her life but I’m more comfortable with the fact she didn’t suffer.
Am I the only one who's crying while watching this
krystelwashere sobrang nakakalungkot
She was selected for her grit and charisma. She would have felt honored to sacrifice herself for her entire empire. In the eyes of the Sun God she was a symbol and death can come gracefully
No she was literally on selected for her beauty along with the rest that were sacrificed, bc the Incan kings and queens all wanted to inherit that, thinking by sacrifice they’d ascertain it. It’s sad what people will do for beauty
Many religions are centered around dying for a god, Christianity is the only one centered on God dying for you. It is a completely and totally distinct religion where God is kind, forgiving, loves you, and is working everything together to the point He can walk in person with us again on a new earth that is without sin and shame.
To explain, God and humans (Adam and eve) walked together in the garden of Eden at the beginning of the world, but since they sinned, and God and sin cannot exist together, we are separated from God unless we repent of our sins and accept Jesus as Lord of our lives (meaning we live to do His will, instead of doing what we want, which is the only way to find real meaning in life, and I and everyone in this world and probably you too, have tried to find meaning in everything else and have bren unable too.). All things leading to the point we walk together with God and the other ppl who loved Christ on that new earth without sin and shame.
Being a HUGE LOVER of culture and Anthropology this the most AMAZING thing I have ever seen!!! ☺👍
You should come to Salta to watch her and the other two kids.
I appreciate Danielle's passion for her.
2:58 music fits so well
I just wanna know the name
@@bakarygory9152 Me too.
She looks so innocent…
They should have left her alone and stayed where she and her people wanted her to be or she just this for one reason if she's gonna get dig up. But that's my opinion.
I think if they let her there some thief could just dig her up and sell those artifacts left in there for money like the tomb thief in Egypt.
Agreed!! Its like someone digging up a grave of the pope or some other famous religious leader, disrespectful and wrong to the people of that religion!
@@bonjovisfamclub yea, but their grave site would be protected, hers was not. And if anybody knew where she was, she could've been sold off or destroyed. So you'd you rather her be lost and destroyed, or safe somewhere, where people are studying her and will protect her
@@bonjovisfamclub that religion doesn't even exist anymore lol the people they lived and died
Plus we know so little about incas they are studying her to find out what her people's culture was. There are more offensive things you can do
It’s weird how she stopped growing , the body is there and for 500 years she didn’t change oh🥺
well she died ofc she will not grow
I really love her hair.
You can hear the emotion in the lady's voice when she says she wants to think of the maiden as a goddess. I hope the maiden herself thought the same way, and didn't feel any fear or pain in the end.
dead peacefully with no violence but still make me feel that gurl trying to survive in her last breath
She probably wanted that she's saw it as a honor ,it was a honor for them .
I thought it was concluded that she was killed by blunt force trauma to the head? or am I thinking of another mummy?)
Yes..
Ithila the blunt force trauma, or i'm thinking of a different mummy?
it's a different mummy.
+Ali The Pencil Breaker ahhh, which one am i thinking of? o.O
+lexalina132
There were thee mummies found. Not in the same place, but near. One did who Truma to the back of the head, the boy. He also had more vomit than the maiden. Proving his death was more painful and had more suffering that she did.
This is straight up scary.
Am terrified.
they hit me so deep with that animations
Bury her now and let her rest once and for all. Have some respect, especially for a child.
She has been "resting" once and for all for 500 years. Besides, I don't think she minds.
Being at a museum is a lot more respectful then killing a child
Ok well, pictures taken now, documentary's filmed. So put her back.
Yep put her back where she’s unprotected and likely to be ripped apart by grave robbers. You are so smart
@@bennu547 you should learn some manners.
May she rest in peace
It's bitter sweet to think about it
"died in peace"? I dont think so, how about before she died? The thoughts of being sacrifice, dying alone? Thats not peace for me.
It's peace for her because she thinks she is saving her country and will be a goddess in the afterlife.
@@Firegirl483 she couldn’t think, she was intoxicated
well, that is judging something form our point of view, a western perspectived probably. The things was this child was taught that she will be doing this for the gods, like a christian believes in eternal live after the dead, they did too in their own way
@@mariaclaudiaquintanaestrad7053 She was still stressed. She was human after all & just a child. She tried to be brave but death can make anyone uncomfortable especially when they already know it's coming.
White hair plus cortisol levels etc pointed towards how she could hve been stressed.
Alot of people even today follow certain cultural rituals etc, they do it willingly & understand it's significance, doesn't necessarily mean they like it.
Saying this from not a Western perspective.
I know its unecessary, but she wouldnt freak out as much as we are right now.
Can you please tell me the what is the red thing on her face? Is it colour which painted on her cheeks or is it blood?
I saw somewhere they gave her coca leaves
amazing, staring at a human from half an eon ago
i feel two ways:
they should let her wear her crown
it's all fun and games until she twitches
The historian at the end looks like Reese Witherspoon
Since its ritual and it happend alot ..I wounder if there is more children burried on mountains that are not discovered yet
You bet there is.,
Its really a big sacrifice....

Years before, she would have known she was destined to be sacrificed. That's why she had a white hair at age 15.
She just woke up! & Her Spirit is putting a Stop to Child Sacrifices World Wide - No More Feeding Energeticaly on Children's Pain Or Blood - The Request has being Granted - & These GODs are Now being placed were they can not harm Them & the Volcano is at Peace Now - and so it is - Blessings.
imagine she opens her eyes and BOOM!
lol
" died peacefully without violence" yeah she was just brutally murdered by intoxication and affixiation... and probably buried still alive... no violence in this...
Violence definition:behavior involving physical force intended to hurt, damage, or kill someone
She died a slowly and peaceful death being intoxicated and with the lack of oxygen would've made her unaware that she was slowly dying she just fell asleep and died, a very peaceful way to die in my opinion, with NO violence the intoxication was not poison it was alcohol and the lack of air only made her more drowsy.
Queen Daily Whereas the other children buried with her especially the boy didn’t die as willingly or peacefully, there was evidence of what would have been an agonizing struggle on his part.
i feel like the mummy will open her/his eyes and it creeps me out
see a lot of people here commenting on how it was horrible that they killed her and how much pain she would have been feeling One. Just because she wasn’t buried in a pyramid doesn’t mean she wasn’t loved by her people
Finally someone that knows how to use their brain correctly thank you
Abril Mendez-Jara
Im sure on a basic human level there was some anixety.... especially as it neared..why the drug increase... but that's normal. These killings were far kinder than aztec and mayan...and the best were given up to please gods instead of stabby stab...
Shame they don’t know how to use punctuation 🤯
Incas do abuse, conquer, and of course killed and even eaten human meat of weak villages that opposed to obey. Inca empire was one to love battle and expand his domains. there are several history evidence that Spain free those abused villages cooperating with them to end inca empire, thats why still nowadays you can see multiple ethnicities. things didnt happen like history told by england conquers that kicked out spanish colonies told. there still lot of myths and romanticize of incan civilization.

Their sacrifice then was useless but now they are priceless
FYI: The white feather crown was sold to, and is now in the possession of a drug lord.
I live 7,000 feet above sea level. I know of people who wanted to live here but couldn’t due to the lower oxygen level.
I think it's presumptuous of us to assume she walked or was carried all at once. I think this trip probably would have taken weeks. It is my understanding that people who summit Mt. Everest make camp at different elevations for a few days to acclimate themselves to the air at each point. I would think this would have been a similar process.
Walking 1000 miles isn’t exactly a painless death!
good exercise though !

Im sorry but ik damn well i wouldne be happy or rest in peace at all knowing that i was sacrificed for a belief. She looks super sad to me. I do hope she is happy and moved on.

Rest in peace
v nice informative videos. 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟
Still they killed a child....how terrible 😒
I think in a lot of stories these people who are just waiting their impending death they die regally and with grace. And do not resist.
When Im looking at her face I feel sad tbh.
Hey man ..
But was it really what science has said it was ? A ritualistic sacrifice? Or
Was she a sacrifice at all?
Or did she die of the treatment she received people gave her, because she was in awful pain because she had TB . They probably loaded her up on alcohol and coco as a pain reliever .. because of the tuberculosis?
Then when she died they brought her to the atop of the mountain. It took the people probably 2 week to bring her there after she died. Along with the other 2 or 3 children she was found with. Did any of them have TB as well?
But never mind about all that. ,
What the heck is that omen all about ? That lightning strikes to the face all about though??
And.
How could lightning strike her in the face , if she was buried alive ?
I could be wrong in understanding but i thought they since she is out of freezing place now... the mummy will now start rottening. (Excuse me for wrong english)
They did say she was starting to rot
i feel like i would whisper in her ears that u can wake up live a peaceful live from now on

Yes She knows that Now.
The crown needs to go back on her head (if it isn't already).
Her nose looks broken
Do y'all see that? They bothered her during some good sleep. She got creases on her face.
My next presentation i will talk about this i will scare my friends with saying “the scientist are giving her oxygen to help her breathe “
Know that It was a belief back then and now she is eternal.. We know that her mummy will be preserved for so so so many years.. I'm not mad at the rituals. It's something every generation had like today there is cremation and burying which is also a ritual...bdw Look how beautiful she is..
😭😭😭😭😭😭how people do how that. So stone hearted😭😭😭😭what does she saw in the world 😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭

I'm pretty sure I've seen another similar video whereby they say she died from blunt trauma to the head?

what is the song called when it shows her being buried by the priest and i believe she had to have lived a glorious life to be sacraficed and to die with such honor
They should give her crown back to her
Still so cruel…
What about the little 4 and 5 year old boy and girl buried with her who were violently killed?

The crown should’ve been put in the case with her, because she basically gave her life just for some god. She was 14 years old and she should be honored with the crown

@@123sara9 People don't seem to understand that not everyone has morals

Well... I thought that the sacrifices were violent... But maybe they were kinder to her because she was a kid?
I think it depends on the culture.
Incas saw sacrifices as a ritual to send their most beautiful maidens with the gods, therefore, you don't need to make them suffer during their deaths, and if can avoid the pain, even better, you don't want them to have an horrible experience.
Aztecs saw sacrifices as a way to feed their gods with blood, usually of their prisioners of war, therefore, their pain was irrelevant for you, so, ripping out the heart was an easy and quick way to achieve that goal.
