Silver star navy cross, purple heart with cluster, that means he couldn't hold any rating of that of a yeoman or a cook. How little did penn know.I love it when penn says, we got him, but the SOB took out six men.

I think the fight scene lasted pretty long and was not one sided. The story behind it is, Penn was able to hold his own. For Casey, fighting in the fashion style displayed in the previous film would not work. Not only is Penn able to shrug off throws, he can grapple and take Ryback with him to the ground. Somewhere, Seagal gets a scratch on his face. The knife is almost at his cheek. Then he overpowers Penn and Penn quickly allows himself to move with it in order to roll away.

Most fights to the death in real life are short. So Penn really did prove to be a good fighter with a blade. However, he makes a lunge at Ryback, who simply dodges it and catches his arm with a grapple, then using Penns own force, threw him over the table. Shrugs it off and says Good Morning. Comes toward Ryback, and the two square off in a hold. This leads to them falling down the stairs. A kind of a pain in the ass no one else in this movie put Ryback through as he plowed through everyone els

Just to let everyone know if they doubt it. They knife disarm at 2:09 works for real. If the guy is holding it blade towards you pointing it jabbing, you can slap it right out of his hand. It will either go to the side OR fly back and hit him in his own face.

@sonny, The hand slap was taught to me the first week of Aikido school. we had to do it I bet 1000 times, like everything else. one reason a real knife fighter who knows anything, keeps the handle in his palm pointed up and the blade covering his inside forearm. you cant slap it out or cut his inside wrist viens.

@datacipher so what's you rank in Aikido? Currently I'm Shodan (1st dan). The level at which Seagal does those techniques is pretty advanced. No one at a low skill level could pull off something that dynamic until they really start too get their basics down. Plus, you have to really know where your center is at all times. Someone whose not very familiar with an Aikido technique(s) starts and how to work with energy would have a very difficult time trying to defend themselves.

Actually, in Seagal fight time, which is different than our own. Much like Seven Seagal's Letterbox 2000. In fact, Penn really did put up a good strategic knife fight in the beginning. At first the two met blades. Then Ryback to a swip at his shoulder which would otherwise be fatal, more was to piss of his opponent by cutting his coat. I'm not even being funny here. Just dissecting the final fight which was not THAT one sided. Just more blood drawn beat down when Penn began to lose.

The most amazing thing is that the final move was so poor, they had to try to speed up the film to make it look acceptable. They actually do that in a couple of his fights in this movie...first time i saw this of Segal...I remember even a decade ago, the attempt at trickery elicited laughs from the audience! Everyone could see through Seagal by this point!
In earlier movies, the mystique of Aikido masked his basic lack of athletic ability, and the inefficacy of his moves.

thats what i keep saying. Look at the fight. They both meet knives. But Penn goes forth after Ryback who just uses his energy against him and tosses him to the table. Does'nt do much to Penn. "Good morning", wakes him up. He swings after Ryback and both scuffle. Penn has hold of Ryback's hand and after a moment of scuffling some more, Penn uses his weight to throw both down the stairs. Ryback loses his knife which puts him in a disadvantage for a brief period. ......

@datacipher I have more than an eye for it, I've seen Seagal during seminars and he's anything but ungraceful, imbalanced and uncoordinated. In fact Aikido develops those attributes. You cannot pull techniques off if you lack balance and other attributes but that can be cultivated through practice and perfection. Yes he's tall and lanky but that's just an advantage in terms of leverage over his opponents. I don't know any action stars that do things in just one take.
