Just 7 years after seeing this for the first time (and many many more times in between) I’ve finally booked my train ticket to Lairg - in search of Kearvaig and Suilven! Can’t wait :)
I’m watching this at work on a break. I work in a poor part of Los Angeles, this reality couldn’t be further from my own. But it was a good escape. Thank you.
By only basic amenities, does he mean, in the cupboard, you'll just find standard Blends or perhaps Single Malts bottled at 40% abv, chill filtered and E150a colouring?
Hi Alastair thanks for this video during lockdown it keeps me sain and lets me plan adventures in my head I have also read Moods of Future Joys and Thunder and Sunshine again the only books I have read twice in my life .so thanks again and stay safe.
What a great video. One year ago I've backpacked through Scotland for about 3 months. I set myself the challenge to spend as many nights in as many different bothies as possible. Went up to 50 nights in 42 different huts. I absolutely loved my time doing so. I moved around by hiking and hitchhiking and the feeling to step through a door of a bothy for the first time is amazing. I'll be back in a few weeks to spend another 5 weeks in this wonderful country. Really looking forward to it. Cheers
I've watched this film a few times over the years. Right now its helping me through the Coronavirus pandemic. I have to stay at home but I can still dream. Thanks ❤
Wonderful! You have so many gifts, thank you for sharing. I was expecting adventure and hoping for great cinematography, and you delivered both. But I was not expecting such beautiful prose and narration. Your voice and writing reminds me of Neil Gaiman, one of the best in the written and spoken word. Thx, Stu from Seattle
Alastair! Thank you so much for this video! I've (from Edmonton, Canada) been starting to make plans to do a solo biking trip in Scotland, for the summer of 2018. I'm purchasing a bike in advance, from Shand (built in Livingston). I'll get them to size me for the bike, and ride it out their doors, and go from there! I'm hoping to go for 3-4 weeks. And then, i saw this video from you. It confirms me, that yes, i'm making a good choice for my next adventure! I'll need to do some research on the bothy's, as that indeed looks like something i'd like to experience. You're an inspiration! Thanks, again, mate!
Just found you, sir. A breathtaking video made with passion and dedication. Having ‘The Bothy Band’ at the the end was simply genius. I look forward to following your adventures. 🌞🙏🇬🇧🌞
I’m not a cyclist these days, walking is my limit. Your Hx of the bothy was something I’ve never thought about? Really like your being. Video was very inspiring indeed. My walks I’ve started to add to RUclips, Scotland has some stunning remote vistas and your bike destinations are drawing me to get out again ~ weather just now isn’t favourable 🌧 for me personally. I live in Wester Ross, so I have the highlands on my doorstep. If you are ever up this way maybe give me a shout 🥱
Came across this video by chance. Spot on! Every time I get fed up with my day this is the one to watch. Cheers Alastair. Looks like my mountain bike is going to be doing ALOT more miles. I have GOT to do this before I get too creaky. Brilliant video. And another subscriber on board.
Wow! I hope you have many years of bothy nights and escapes from the mundane. Great sentiments, well delivered. And such wonderful landscape. I hope to stay in one of the bothies one day. What an amazing experience.
Honestly, this has the kind of quality that +North Face normally provides!! Amazing video. I am going hiking for almost 50 miles in Scotland next year, and this has made me so much more excited for it!
Amazing film! Yes, it's so important to respect a Bothy because if you do it will make one a better person in life. The scenery you shot is a sumptuous feast for the eyes. The Scottish Highlands really are a gem in the British isles the last bastion of glorious wilderness. I'm slightly nervous of the highland cows as they have horns like Spanish bulls but that said, I'm prepared to risk my life to experience exceptional beauty!
Like your books this video is just amazing! Being retired I'm fortunate in that work is a thing of the past (and that's where it should be). I can head to the hills whenever I want, it's a freedom I cherish. Live simply.
waoo absolutely fantastic video and great scenery all around Scotland, never heard about Bothy, what a beautiful thing, I have a great passion for mountain biking too..cheers mate
Such a good bothy biking edit. Ive visited a few bothys via mountain bike but never stayed in one. Going to change that in 5 weeks. Thanks for the inspiration.
What an awe inspiring master piece! including my favourite scottish mountain, I use the phantom also for wild camping and love how you use it sparingly, so well done must have taken hours and hours to put together but this is why we love the wilderness thanks :) Tim
Magic video, just back from staying in a wee secret bothy ourselves, so know what you mean about the hard to find ones being the most rewarding! Managed to find one of the bothies on here with a wee quick search, but time to get the maps oot and do a wee bit of detective work to find one of the other ones...
Saw this at Dundee Mountain Film Festival! Awesome work! Up until now I've always used a tent on my expeditions, but this has definitely inspired me to go out and hunt for a bothy!
Great job!!! A truly inspirational video. I really need to do another trip to the Scottish mountains... My last visit was rather unpleasant because I spent most of the time sick in a hotel room but this was just bad luck.
I didn't know Scotland was so beautiful. I've always wanted to visit because my great-great-grandparents came from there; now I would like to visit just for its own sake.
Loved camasunary bothy, spent several days there wearing only rainwear still soaked to the skin scavenging wood and meeting all sorts of interesting folk and drinking their whiskey

Good luck with LA life!
Mr. Hman life sucks mate but if you're ever thinking of coming to Scotland get in touch all the best
Scotland is great but it's got parts that would run LA close on scum and violence
. . . just a wonderful vlog, and elemental about bothy-culture !
Thanks for letting us in on it too, Ralfy.

@@RebMordechaiReviews . . . no, more basic, . . . a can of cider if your lucky.
This is still one of my most favorite videos
Hi Alastair thanks for this video during lockdown it keeps me sain and lets me plan adventures in my head I have also read Moods of Future Joys and Thunder and Sunshine again the only books I have read twice in my life .so thanks again and stay safe.
