This movie inspired me to sleep out on the golf course next to my house. Everything was going great, I had my tent set up, gathered some firewood from near the tree line, and built this giant beautiful glowing fire. I thought "WOW, this is what life is all about, this is exactly what I've been missing." I went down to the nearby pond to fetch some water for cooking my ramen noodles (chicken flavor) and when I returned a firetruck had arrived and was dowsing out my camp fire! The police surrounded my tent and took me to jail where i spent the night. I was charged with loitering and destruction of private property. The moral of the story is, if you're going to go on an adventure, bring a golf cart for a quick getaway. good luck out there.
A great book, got inspired to get off my backside and I now cycle 60+ miles a week (exploring the backroads in south Ayrshire.) getting lost can be fun. (also lost 7 kilos of exess weight)
You are truly awesome. The micro-adventures you live and do are really exciting. Sometimes we need to have or do micro-adventures in our lives. Because sometimes it is everyone's right to get out of discipline and relax.
This is truly a life changing attitude. Many of us think about going to other countries or places for adventures, but there are plenty of people who come to where we all live to have adventures. We need to treat our home area like we have never been there before and explore it better
I really enjoyed reading your microadventure story in the book, and seeing it brought to life visually was equally delightful! The idea of exploring new interests without breaking the bank is awesome, and I hope to try a microadventure myself with friends or even solo someday.
Just read your book, microadventures. Really inspiring. I do walk regularly, but now want to do more. Have bought a camping stove and intend to cook sausages when I venture out tomorrow.
I have no words (especially in English, my second language :-), how much I love Your videos, books and life philosophy ! AMAZING WORK!!! Thank You very very much dear Alastair 😊
Love your story and talks. I’ve lived and will continue living an adventurous life. What you exemplify resonates with me and my vision. Thank you! Also for simplifying and clarifying. ✨🙏🏾✨👑🎭🎨
I just found Terra Ingognita adventure podcast this week for the first time.... I listened to your interview and later found your micro adventure intro on RUclips.... all of which were so refreshing and inspirational. Thank you.
Simply awesome Alastair, This is a great idea. After watching this I have decided to figure out the most beautiful direction within a 15KM radius from my home. Will head out in a new direction each day and will share my recordings with you someday.
Great stuff mate. Couldn't agree with you more. I have had the occasional microadventure but never knew what they were called ;) All inspired for more now!
This gives a smile on face when you talked about sleeping on the hill. Just a great idea if you have something like that in the area. But your idea in Hongkong is great also. Think outside of the box and be bold and brave, just do it. In my country the Netherlands being at night in nature is not allowed, maybe in some areas. Still our big outdoor store Bever is advertising micro adventures for the Dutch people, much can be done in my country to have a micro adventure. I thinking about what I can do to have a micro adventure.
I am, honestly, grateful to come along this highly valuable, great great video that inhabits so much truth, simplicity and wisdom regarding our all life's. Very much appreciate your micro adventure approach instead of feeling trapped and stuck in our 9-to-5 days! I feel so free right now and will try to proactively follow your appeal and change my habits and my mindset! THANK YOU, Alastair *****
The microadventure presentation was great.Alastair`s life is both very interesting and very dangerous. The most interesting thing is that he goes everywhere by bicycle🚲 summer🏞️,winter❄️ cycling is fun
Great idea! I bought your book on a whim yesterday morning, and did exactly that last night - 5-9 (actually about 7:30 to 7:30) - a great way to regain sanity while dreaming of the next big trip.
I have a 3 year old and 1 year old so I've been doing what I see as the easiest microadventure - exploring every street in my city. A few nights per week I explore a street while my husband is home with the kids.
Don't know how I've missed hearing about this concept for so long! This is what I've been trying to do with my family and now I know what its called! Thank you!
Microadventures sound like a brilliant idea! My brother, every Melbourne Cup day, throws a dart at a map of Victoria to find his destination. He goes to the nearest pub to where the dart lands to watch the race with the locals and then explores the local area. I've been thinking of doing a similar thing with a dart and a map. I'm planning on experiencing areas that I'd never consider going otherwise.
As a guy who is naturally adventurous who loves the outdoors I'm guilty of being consumed by work, TV, work, TV until the weekend! I'm sure there's alot of people out there who can relate to this. however this short video has just give me a double espresso shot inspiration. what an outstanding video and what a guy. My partner is a teacher and I think alot of her children and ones throughout the country ( especially deprived areas) would benefit hugely from your experience. I'll order your book on this video alone and wish you huge success in your future adventures. ATB Steve
Just came across this video. I wouldn't recommend a campfire in the middle of sand dunes. This footage is of Poppit Sands in Pembrokeshire in late August/September 2015. Around about that time a wild camper set the sand dunes on fire requiring three fire engines to visit the scene along with all the Police, Ambulance and RNLI crews. Around 30 firefighters/people in all. The fire was extensive and the worst in the area for 40 odd years. There's a campsite at Poppit Sands, not far from the cafe. It's better to be safe than sorry. Also, not far from where you were camping there are a couple of wooden dwellings hidden in the dunes. I don't think the residents would be too happy if their homes went up in smoke. Those that cause serious fire damage don't hang around to hold their hands up. Others are left to pick up the pieces.
This video inspired me that I can go on a adventure anywhere near my home and microadventure is not abroading somewhere you can do it even in your hometown
Fantastic video Al. I must order your latest trilogy "The boy who biked the World" - I know a little 6 year old boy in NZ who will fall in love with them. Thanks for the inspiration brother.
I wish I had a tinsy bit of your energy, you oos enthusiasm and lust for life, I had my first microadventure, I made it to the bottom of the garden and set up my tent,,, well it's a start
Sami ....so, just curious Sami, how many micro adventures have you managed to squeeze into the last three years since you posted that message? Did you manage to remove yourself from the sofa? :-)
Thanks I will share it with my students to try to have them start a micro or a bigger adventure xxx love from Quebec come and check the nature here Dominique
truly am lucky to have found Alastair and his vidoes (your "As I walked out one Midsummer Morning" remake is what brought me). I wonder if you have any videos of that adventure. Will try a microadventure (and hopefully full blown adventures) and keep your philosophy in my thoughts
This generation would be better off building future generations of our great British people and a homeland fit for these Titians !!! Now that would be a great adventure. Only the strong need apply

"Adventure is more of an attitude than anything else" - Spot on!!
Just completed my 3rd Microadventure in less than one month... Thank you Al for inspiring us.
