@@a.c.s.6204 "not really an excuse".... uh hi let me step in as a game developer and explain something really quick. Everything you see in a game takes up resources, no not just our money, not just game development time, or artists time, or modelers time, not those kind of resources. You understand that this game was made for xbox360 and ps3 at the base of its development right? Now before I go deeper into this explanation as to why you sound like a dumbass, let me also feel free to mention that at the time the team was working with a newer gane engine that they've never touched before. Not only that but at the time scimitar wasn't as polished and took quite a lot of work around to get as many assets on screen at once without the use of constent culling, and major pop ins. Needless to say it wasn't as polished as say ubisofts current engine Anvilnext 2.0 (which is now actually facing some of the same issues. But thankfully the engine was developed to actually be built apon much like the unreal engine which most people are oblivious too when arguing about them using the same game engine.). Now that thats out the way and I brought up the engine let's get back to resources. Not only were they working with software that for all inents and purposes was ahead of its league but also resource heavy, but they were on last gen consoles. In this case by resources I mean the limited space that the xbox360-ps3 gave developers to work with to make things run smooth. And key word SMOOTH. Game can run at 19fps but considering what it took back then to get to that point we would've considered that smooth enough for market. So all together resource heavy game engine which was still new, and very weak hardware that even at the time didn't match the specs of a gaming pc (which unfortunately this game was built with consoles in mind first and pc was outsourced). So yes theres a reason there's not a wall there. They were limited on exactly what they could put, and how it would also attribute to a gameplay experience. Now side note i only do freelance work and am not an employee there. However I have many friends who worked/work on multiple projects who share their development experience with me. And I in turn share what I ran into with them (as long as we don't break our NDAs of course.). So no it had nothing to do with religious views, had nothing to do with politics. It had to do with gane development and as the person above mentioned, it being 2007 at release (game was in development in since 2004.. let that sink in) not only was console resources not fully tapped into, but game engines wouldn't let them get to that point just yet. And to wrap everything up a missing western wall would be the last of anyone's concern (well... not really talks would've happened on what was feasible and what should be axed out on the cutting room so in a sense it was very much a concern lol especially considering the fact you have to pay to recreate landmarks in a published title. Or at the very least ask permission. Have to consider. Is it worth spending all that time on something that they literally might just remove )
As someone live in Israel (and have lived in Acre for so long) I’m so disappointed by Ubisoft approach. No adequate representation to Jewish culture, ancient architecture or people. For example, in the whole game you can find only one temple (compared to dozens of churches and mosques). Historically speaking it is so much wrong. Not to mention the absence of Western Wall. Maybe they were afraid that if they did so their game would be boycotted by antisemitic (which are way many more than just 20 million Jews around the world that wouldn’t give too much attention to this anyway) or political movements. Or maybe they just don’t really like Israel/Jewish for verity of reasons themselves. Anyway, though the installment was amazing as the whole series, I was disappointed for that.
Yeah that's what i was thinking yesterday replaying the game. Jews pretty much don't exist in the series and that's just so sad, as they were a vital part of our western culture and history
