Beautiful camera work both in game and out. Greece is amazing and whether it's from one guy with a camera or from 36 ubisoft studios, it's worth seeing.
I've been playing this game since the debut of quarantine, I find it to be beautiful and was really impressed with how it looked to be set in Ancient Greece. This video blows my mind! Great work, thanks for making this! :)
Excellent video, just unbelievably informative and beautiful! I took a trip to Greece with my family several years ago and got to visit all of these sites. It really brought back some great memories seeing them presented like this. Thank you so much!
Thank you for this! I recently visited Athens, a few months after playing Odyssey and when I was there I was thinking of comparisons of the game's environments to its real life counterparts. The effort put into the architecture and to match it up closely to how it would've been in those times are incredible.
I've clocked 138 hours in this game, and I just finished the main story. I'm *almost* done completing every little objective in the whole map, and I've walked most of it. At one point I was overwhelmed by the sheer amount of things I felt I needed to do in the game and quit. Eventually I came back to it because I felt bad for giving up and my completionist side yelled inside me to finish it. And so I took Kassandra in and adventure again. And what helped me this time was to take my time and enjoy the view, and damn if the view wasn't amazing! Everywhere you look the game feels alive, from the cities crowded with people that mind their own business (the kids playing on one side, the group of people discussing between them, someone painting, another one working with stone, etc) to the fields brimming with flora and fauna, travelers who stop to mourn their friend, who was just killed by a bear... Breathtaking. Even with the obvious differences compared to the real thing, the astounding work these people put in the game shows everywhere. Thanks for doing this video, helped my wife and me to appreciate more such labor. Kudos to you.
shit, it took me 215 hours (main game, all the dlcs) and I still have 3 little regions left on the main map to complete. Probably because I play on the max difficulty, which can be a horrible nightmare for most parts of the game :D I still remember the Minotaur fight... I wasnt ready...
Same! I rushed through as Alexios, And now as Kassandra I’m really going slow, taking my time, and choosing where i want my story to go, while really stopping to look at everyplace I’m at. Trying to learn all of Athens so I can walk it like a normal street, etc. So much good about this game. And this video just makes it even more mind blowing
After playing the game I thought to myself “ wow does greece actually looks like this?” I found out it did and now I decided to move there when I retire
This is amazing! You seriously have no idea how much I nerded out through this. I was able go go to Greece on a study abroad this summer and I definitely was geeking out and comparing things in my head. I didn’t see Delphi or any part of Crete, but we spent most of our time on Lesbos (with a quick mainland tour, where we did get to see the Acropolis). Things definitely were shifted around (the petrified forest is waaaaay further west and not as far north in real life), but overall it was faithful enough to even this little island. Unfortunately the main city, Mytilene, has drastically changed since then, so there weren’t really many ways to compare the area. Thermopylae is another area that is sized down significantly in the game, and there’s no massive water along the area, but it might be that geographical shifts over a couple thousand years caused the waters to recede, as it did in maaaany places in the region. Despite that, I still could imagine myself standing in the game when I stood there. I kept nerding out to the other students comparing things that I recognized from the game, and I’m soooo glad to see someone go in depth like this!
What a incredible work that Ubisoft did with this game. Amazing!!! I am playing it now and I'm speechless how accurate and realistic the world building is! How could they do this so perfectly? Can't say how much work of research and talent to re-imagine and rebuild this in therms of digital techniques.... Fascinating!!!
As a Greek who has visited a lot of ancient sites in the country, I was impressed to see the work done by Ubisoft! Not only that, but the landscape and the language made me feel like I was actually in my home country!
One of the things I love most about Assassin's Creed was how we could wander through the past civilization and learn how they lived at that time. It was as like we have a time machine, amazing team of developers who made this game real
There's a really nice podcast run by an University history PhD and professor who talks about history and video games, The History Respawned. One of the latest episodes talks about Odyssey, it really is interesting and let's you understand the amount of resources big developers put on setting visual accuracy and environment coherence, something that dwarfs most movies.
13:30 That was absolutely the best part of going to Greece! You can immediately understand why it became a sacred location when you get that amazing view.
Hey a slight note on the Parthenon, the explosion you talked about was due to the fact that the ottomans used the building as a storehouse for gunpowder at the time
Love this video game appreciation thing thats going on. You could never make enough videos that truly recognises the amount of work that goes into making a video game, let alone a triple A one. Good work.
Gameplay is repetitive but having a really large bright 4k TV and surround sound made this game into a legit experience for me. Seeing all the little torches light up during the night over the Greek islands with the music softly playing is so emotive. Having the meat of the real history to dive into makes it a great piece of edutainment as well.
AC Odyssey might not what I would considered a good RPG game or a good "Assassin's Creed" game for that matter, but there is no denying that it has an amazing historical environment & lanscape locations, just like AC Origins.
Yeah but just the environment, the rest is so historically inaccurate that really makes me cringe like the warrior women(particularly funny are the Athenian ones) or the ridiculous armors and weapons.
Living in a country next to Greece (Albania) I really love this country, especially its history due to a fact that I am a History freak. I love every ancient building there is. I still haven't had the chance to visit Greece, but I do have many relatives that live there.
I can't believe they actually turned AC Odyssey into a real country. It goes to show the length these developers will go to make their games truly immersive.
I love this video's subject matter and execution. People really have no idea how much work it took to make it. You almost have to be a professional surveyor. First, you have to pay out of pocket to travel there. Then find the places on interest. Then you have to set up the cam in the right location. At the exact correct angle. At the exact right height. Constantly going back and forth between the game and real location till you get the shot just right. Then after all that and more you have to come back home and line up the pans and edit it seamlessly. Incredible work Super (and crew most likely). Great stuff. Thanks so much for doing and sharing it.
I don't know if somebody has already mentioned it in the comments but here you go: Athenians built The Long Walls (Makra Teixi) which were 6km long in order to connect the city of Athens with the harbour of Peiraus. Of course in the game they are not that "long" but I didn't expect them to include them in the game. Fun fact: When Spartans invaded Athens, Athenians that lived in the city were able to hear the screams and pain of their brothers and sisters while they were being slaughtered by the Spartans in the harbour. Just imagine...
I'm presently in Athens this week and it's the second time I visit a location where the games I've played take places. The first time it was in Venice, after playing AC II and now it's Athens. Same as Venice, when I'm walking on some places, especially with the San Marco Square for Venice and the Acropolis for Athens, I'm telling myself: "Shit it's just like the game was! Like I've been here before." Sometimes you just recognize a type of wall or statut, or column for example, but sometimes I don't know how to describe that, but it's just like if you recognize the vibration and a peculiar ambiance. Very strange feeling, but amazing to live!
Assassin's creed has definitely lost its touch, but I do think people are too hard on it, sure the new ones aren't as good the old ones but the amount of effort ubisoft put to make these places thrive is absolutely great, love exploring assassin's creed just to take in the sights haha
Massive respect for you making this amazing video and for ubisoft, there was a looooot of work to make this game, that's why i am playing it for the 4th time. The only sad thing is that there is not much left of ancient Greece in 2023.
I lived in Greece for four years and spent a lot of time at different places there. When the game came out going round them was the first thing I did. You should have gone to Cape Sounion and the temple of Poseidon too.
This is genuinely the best comparison video that I've seen on this game. Not only do you show damned glorious angles from both reality and the game, but the fact that you discuss the history and the scenery. Honestly, you should do all of their games - based on your ability to travel. Hell, I'd totally donate a 'Send Super Bunnyhop On A World-Game/Present-History Assassin's Creed Comparison Tour.' Incredible footage, also! Subscribed!

I feep even the architecture couldbe been better tbh. The parthenon doesnt even have it's frieze! Odyssey was one of the most poor historical Assassin's Creeds. Crete barely feels like the real crete too and the palace of Knossos was exagerated
@@justmike-yt yes but greece wasn't like that. Spartan people wasn't like that. Women should stay at home. They could go outside without a man. Also spartans were drinking blood. They were training their children 5o make them strong when they grow up. That didn't happen with Alexios

A lovely comment and I couldn't agree more!
Antonio Francisco Magaña Gómez the entire game is copied and pasted
@@Sevren_ you're stupid.
The whole time I was playing Odyssey I didn't realize how much I wanted this video.
After playing the game I thought to myself “ wow does greece actually looks like this?” I found out it did and now I decided to move there when I retire
Fantastic job, greetings from Greece my friend 🇬🇷❤
@jorgan Kharn Ah the region Macedonia 🇬🇷 or this 🇲🇰? Bulgaria who thinks it's Macedonia

this was a relaxing watch. no ranting. the music and editing helped. thanks for this video.
Love how most of these amazing buildings still have at least some of their old glory, and their restoring some!
History Respawned is great. They're also on YT: ruclips.net/video/DgZdCX3MAJY/видео.html
I studied ancient Greece in grade 11 this year, and I'm getting ac Odyssey before the year ends so when I play it stuff is gonna be so familiar

13:30 That was absolutely the best part of going to Greece! You can immediately understand why it became a sacred location when you get that amazing view.
Hey a slight note on the Parthenon, the explosion you talked about was due to the fact that the ottomans used the building as a storehouse for gunpowder at the time
Some Ottoman quartermaster: "WOOPSIE!"
Broreale Pretty much😂
It was also due to the Venetians finding out the Ottomans were storing gunpowder inside of it and specifically targeting it to blow it up.
This is one of my favorite videos in the whole RUclips. Thank you.
I love this because ive been to the parthenon in Athens many times and the temple of posidon further South.
Stunning work! Thank you!
Wow. I don’t know why it took me so long to watch this one, given I know your stuff is consistently great, but wow. I was missing the hell out.
Well I'm greek and I can defentely confirm that both Ubisoft and Super Bunnyhop did a GReat work !!
George is going through hardcore history phase, and I'm really digging it.
The stadium of Delphi, in the game, has a new temple construction ocurring by the Cult.
I can relate, when I went to Greece after playing Assassins Creed Odyssey. It was so surreal.
Beleave me I live in Greece!! It is reaaaly surreal 🇬🇷😂😂 they made a huge job man
Here I am studying for my Greek exam and then I see George upload this, thank you for the unintended review session.
AC Odyssey might not what I would considered a good RPG game or a good "Assassin's Creed" game for that matter, but there is no denying that it has an amazing historical environment & lanscape locations, just like AC Origins.
Tbh I wouldn't consider assassin's creed odyssey a good game but the sheer labour and effort put into the world is awe inspiring
AC Odyssey is the best of the franchise.
1- Odyssey
2 - Origins
3 - AC II
Yeah but just the environment, the rest is so historically inaccurate that really makes me cringe like the warrior women(particularly funny are the Athenian ones) or the ridiculous armors and weapons.
The Loner Odyssey has the weakest and has the most cringy dialogue
Splendid work; it is apparent the amount of effort and thought went into your project. And as your audience, I greatly appreciate it. Thanks.
Chill, historical and informitive.
I was able to find my way around Shibuya from having played The World Ends with You too many times...
Living in a country next to Greece (Albania) I really love this country, especially its history due to a fact that I am a History freak. I love every ancient building there is. I still haven't had the chance to visit Greece, but I do have many relatives that live there.
I have a albanian friend in rhodos
Good people albanian 👍
I haven't played too many games, but visually this was one of my favorite open worlds to explore.
Fun fact:
When Spartans invaded Athens, Athenians that lived in the city were able to hear the screams and pain of their brothers and sisters while they were being slaughtered by the Spartans in the harbour. Just imagine...
Yes George! We love you
Big respect from London
I'm presently in Athens this week and it's the second time I visit a location where the games I've played take places.
The first time it was in Venice, after playing AC II and now it's Athens. Same as Venice, when I'm walking on some places, especially with the San Marco Square for Venice and the Acropolis for Athens, I'm telling myself:
"Shit it's just like the game was! Like I've been here before."
Sometimes you just recognize a type of wall or statut, or column for example, but sometimes I don't know how to describe that, but it's just like if you recognize the vibration and a peculiar ambiance.
Very strange feeling, but amazing to live!
Thats awesome Brother! 🇬🇷
Now that's its been a while, do you feel often people are too hard on the Assassin's Creed franchise?
You should have gone to Cape Sounion and the temple of Poseidon too.
also there is a hill next to acropolis called vrahakia where everyone drinks and smokes, you can find that place in the game
I'm waiting on that in depth Death Stranding video, George!
Subscribed!
Hmmm, seems like a clever way to travel to different countries. Nice
George, i'm finally watching this video as I am nearing the end of my journey in Assassin's Creed Odyssey. I gotta say, you called the shot you have gotten "breathtaking" and I wholeheartedly agree. This was an amazing extension of my journey through the game, and I sincerely thank you for making this video.
Andrew Mowbray I’m also watching this as I am near the end of the journey in game! I would actually like to visit Greece in a few years time and have a look at some of these locations. Pretty cool
Athens is one of the best cities I ever visited. Great food for the stomach, great knowledge for the mind, great walks for the body. I might have to play this game for a holiday in 2020.
This aged badly
Want to know something interesting. While studying for my MBA, I had a prof who was named Alexios, he is Greek, and he is from Lakonia.
George is out here going to the literal ends of the earth in the name of video games. What a legend.
Travelling in the place where my house stands today is awesome. That's why I like AC odyssey
17:57 Woah, hold on a minute there. You're just gonna do Agamemnon like that? I'm not saying he's right to call the Greek armies to war, but it also wasn't him that eloped with another man's wife...
He was right to call the greeks to war
Fantastic work! I feel like I never really have the time to watch your videos but they're always interesting.
Did you go to Greece this year, SuperBunnyHop? We might have been in Greece at the same time. Don’t think i saw you though.
He just went a few weeks ago.
This is a fantastic program, thank you for making and sharing this
Im starting to think he's actually going insane....
*I like this*
Awesome. I really enjoyed your explanations.
Most of the terrain and architecture is right, but the culture is 300 levels of wrong
Well it does kinda have to fit the game’s story
Can you expand on that?
I feep even the architecture couldbe been better tbh. The parthenon doesnt even have it's frieze! Odyssey was one of the most poor historical Assassin's Creeds. Crete barely feels like the real crete too and the palace of Knossos was exagerated
@@justmike-yt yes but greece wasn't like that. Spartan people wasn't like that. Women should stay at home. They could go outside without a man. Also spartans were drinking blood. They were training their children 5o make them strong when they grow up. That didn't happen with Alexios

This was fantastic. Bravo for the camera work and transitions.

My God! Did I just stumble on the greatest video in RUclips or what? Incredible comparisons. I mean I imagined AC Odyssey was shrunk, but I didn't imagine someone can accurately describe by how much and where exactly, I am absolutely mind blown. Amazing work, thank you very much for this video!
This isn't MGS content. Are you okay george?
Im surprised he didnt touch dat much about death stranding...
Bro this is a 1:1 comparison. The camera angling too is spot on. Great job!
I love Greek history, loved Greece when I visited it, love AC Odyssey.
Greek history isnt even Greek, its slavic, the Austro-Hungary just re-wrote it and handed it to the greeks because they needed to have the slavic people's regarded as "not native" to the balkans so they would have a historical right to colonise us and germanise us.
Greeks took on slavic culture to a tee. Even their alphabet comes from ours.
Care to explain how the Battle of Marathon, the Pelopenisan War, Periclean democracy are all really Slavic history?
@@borisfrlic The slavs didn't even exists during the Mycenaean period mate, you don't make sense. Slavs date around 500 AD where Greek civilazation dates back to 3.500 BC. Thats 4.000 years earlier slavs even existed.
