  • Taking a closer look at anything can surprise you. Georgia O’Keeffe flower paintings are close-ups or even extreme close-ups. You see things you don’t expect. And there is some debate over what you might see, but Georgia O’Keeffe always told she was painting flowers. In the art world Georgia O’Keeffe is considered as the Mother of American Modernism because she was one of the first to change her painting style. In this video I chose to paint in the style of Georgia O’Keeffe flower and do this with a wet on wet technique that I haven’t seen much about on the internet: just way to much paint. Do try this yourself, it’s a fun way of painting.

In almost all my videos I use with Winsor&Newton Galeria acrylics, if not, I will say so in the video.
Other materials I use are in random order: 5, 10 and 40mm brushes, palette knives, acrylics medium, Ecoline liquid watercolor, Lyra color pencils, Lyra soft pastels, oil pastels, Stabilo color pencils, paper palette pad and basic masking tape. I also use household items like a permanent marker, scrub sponge, scissors, paper towel, and so on.

Mr. Van der Swart, I can't thank you enough for these videos. I am using your videos to introduce my teenage grandson to famous artists' styles while he learns to paint. Your clarity and subtle humor make painting an absolute joy! I had to stop this video a few times on first viewing...first, to clarify colors/movement/etc, and second to LAUGH...stopped it so I wouldn't miss anything while laughing!! You are a joy, sir.

I'm a huge GOK fan. One thing that she was able to do was flawlessly blend her paint on the canvas so there are no visble paint strokes. A technique I've still not mastered

You're right Lezlee, I love her color blending too. This video was more a funny one about an other aspect of some of her artworks. Albert
