About Godzilla Resurgence 2016
Godzilla Resurgence (シン・ゴジラ Shin Gojira) is an upcoming Japanese science fiction kaiju film featuring Godzilla, produced and distributed by Toho. It is the 31st film in the Godzilla franchise, the 29th Godzilla film produced by Toho, and Toho's third reboot of the franchise. The film is co-directed by Hideaki Anno and Shinji Higuchi, with a screenplay by Anno and visual effects by Higuchi and stars Hiroki Hasegawa, Yutaka Takenouchi, and Satomi Ishihara and reimagines Godzilla's origins where he emerges in modern Japan for the first time.

I can't wait for the dramatic reveal of the film when he manages to move his arms an inch as angelic chorus trumpets and the Japanese cower in fear as he flexes a single finger. Truly, this will be a masterpiece of cinema.

I was never the biggest Godzilla fan but even I'm disappointed by how idiotic some of these commenter are. This was made as a project of passion. This was never meant to pander to a mainstream audience, you can tell it was made especially for the fans of the older movies. I for one can't wait for it to come to America so I can see it.

Godzilla's design looks interesting, but I swear he alternates from being a mobile living creature in one scene to an inanimate statue in others.

People are complaining about how he looks so screwed up.
So an animal that was RAPIDLY mutated by nuclear radiation against its will is supposed to look NICE? Being mutated by radiation doesn't just make something look like a bigger, scarier version of itself, no, no. It literally twists and distorts that creature's anatomy, its lifestyle, how it functions, EVERYTHING, and it does NOT look pretty, and the animal often feels every bit of it, or at least some of it. This Godzilla has to be the most realistic, for lack of a better term, because it's not just some giant dinosaur thing like all the previous Godzilla incarnations, it LOOKS genuinely screwed up and almost in pain, because that's what radioactive mutation does to a living thing's body. Realistically speaking, Godzilla SHOULD look this way.
Also I'd like to comment on how god damn amazing the animation in this movie is. I daresay it even tops Legendary's Godzilla. Don't get me wrong, Legendary looks great, it's one of my favorite designs for Godzilla, but you could TELL it wasn't on screen, very easily I might add. It looked too polished and perfect, he flowed too well with his movements, but with this guy, whenever there was a close up, I had a hard time telling if they used a puppet or animatronic, or if it was animated. It's obvious that it's not real, but damn, the animation here really gives you the feeling of something being in front of the camera. I feel like the movements of the camera and this Godzilla helped give that feeling of it being there too.

Shin Gojira is legit terrifying. Not to mention the atomic breath in this one, holy crap! Also, how he started out like a demon-baby-fish-thing?! That was kind of awesome. I really like how they made this Godzilla look like it was a guy in a suit, it really brings out the nostalgia. I haven't even seen the movie and i give it a 10/10.
I’ll agree this comment. Shin Fat lizard was created by something radioactive hitting a certain animal. That’s why it’s gross looking people expect for it to be all nice and crap like that. For example I am a 3 headed destroying Alpha. I’m not supposed to be your good old cartoon villain.
My dudes... this was made by Japanese people for (mostly) Japanese people. It's a different culture with different standards, you should all have that in mind before making an assessment about the movie. The godzilla that Japanese people know and love is different from the one we Westerners know. Their aesthetic is different too. So please be objective with your judgment and don't just hate it because it doesn't look like it was directed by Michael Bay. Embrace cultural differences.

I don't like either his arms or his tail. Barely any movement seen in the suit from these trailers besides the legs, absurdly massive tail, and his head. This bastard will have a limited move set if it sees the light of fighting another kaiju in any possible future movies.
godzilla is a lumbering beast he doesn't have a moveset. he has pure brute strength and durability. he can pretty much use his tail, breath fire, or bite. in the 70s he through in some ali style sticking and moving though.
+reed richards Godzilla has been seen to punch, throw, push, throw objects, and lift up other kaiju in plenty of movies. This new one can use his tail, atomic breath, and bite, but what I'm saying is that this new one looks far more limited than previous incarnations. Just look at him walk, he looks stiff. A fight will get boring very quick without his arms to fight with.
Maybe it's the Independence Day in me.....we just have a bad history, with movies with resurgence in the title.
That's how it starts. The pessimism, the low expectations, the feeling of powerlessness that turns fans.....into haters.

I actually like the creative choice of making Godzilla look like he's been flayed all over his body, and scabbed over. It's something we haven't seen before, and it really represents him as a terrible blight on the world.
Who else finds this to be the first rendition of Godzilla that actually looks physically terrifying? I shit my pants when I first saw "Zomb-Zilla" in the first trailer. Just so intimidating. Can't wait for this to come out in The States, if it is going to be. But I hope this doesn't suffer, because based on the trailers alone, it seems that there is only Godzilla, and the lack of monsters can lead to an excess amount of drama with the human characters, which is what happened with Godzilla 2014. Either way, I'll watch it. Why? Because it's motherfucking Godzilla.

Actually the human drama was the focus of the original, and here he is a metaphor for modern tragedies like 9/11 and the Fukushima incident (according to the co-director). You can prefer one approach or the other, obviously

+Chase Tyler All godzillas have atomic breath equivalent to a nuke. Heisei and final wars are capable of blowing up the earth multiple times with theirs. That's a hell of a lot more than a single nuke.
Godzilla 2000 I believe is the only one with Atomic breath that is naturally red, like the rest of the other Godzilla's are blue Atomic breath

The Godzilla in Godzilla Resurgence is a lot more realistic than Legendary's "I'm a good guy who saves humans lulzz" type of Godzilla. The film's CG could use some improvement, but it's the realism that I like most about this latest version of Godzilla - it started off as a sea creature mutated by radioactive wastes and crawls to shore as an amphibian just like how fish had first evolved to adapt to living on land, and from there it continues to mutate / evolve into more terrifying forms. It's not just some obscure "ancient creature" burrowed in the sea for thousand of years without anyone noticing it.
The CG is pretty impressive coming from a lower budget company unlike Legendary company. I recommended you to watch "Shin Gojira VFX Breakdown". You can see how much work did Toho put to make Godzilla look realistic. Despite Shin Goji doesn't even look realistic in some scenes, but most of the scenes have a really good CGI.

I have to say, this is one of my favorite Godzilla designs to date. I love everything about it, the skeletal arms, the gigantic tail, the way he barely moves, I just love it all! I have a lot of faith for this movie.

This is another Godzilla timeline and this particular one is set in the present day and they never faced Godzilla before, so unlike all the others, which called back to the 1954 original, this one will be the first Godzilla the public faced.

Actually this is a reboot of the original, so aka, this is a first godzilla landing, but I admit, these guys are stupid if they can try to take down a force of nature with regular weapons after failing the first few times

I saw this movie just this afternoon, it's the most dynamic and thrilling Godzilla movie I've seen up to date. definitely worth visiting the theatre for this one

After liking Godzilla as a child then growing up and realizing that the movies were corny hard to re-watch (except for the first one), I have to say I really liked this one. I saw it last night and it was great. It looks and feels a lot like the Evangelion TV show from director Anno Hideki (music, characters, military action scenes, preparation for action scenes). That didn't take away from the film, in fact is was nice to see Godzilla blended with Anno Hideki's style. Godzilla was truly disgusting and scary. It also brings up many of the issues that Japan has to face in today's world. Made me feel, made me think and there was no corny-ness to be found!

Based on this video alone, I can only assume all the old people in it are ashamed and have no plan, and the young people have a plan and just want to be given a chance to act it out by the old people.
My take is they just got their asses handed to the by the Big Fella and are somber as they realize there is nothing they can really do.
Nah, I honestly think this is an earlier attack...maybe even the first in the film. I think we've all noticed how in previous films, missiles and rockets would miss a costly amount of times. I think this film is going for the original's more serious tone where we really do feel helpless. I think they are going to find this Godzilla is very different from any other film, with a true feeling of being hit with a nuke and there's nothing you can do about it while it's happening. This trailer is showing the level of invincibility this Godzilla will have, I believe. I was curious if anyone else noticed the level and accuracy of the firepower Godzilla was being hit with. Thought it looked spectacular.
ok, just read that this is the first appearance Godzilla in this universe. Hence the feeling of it going back to the original and that sense of being hit with a bomb or a natural disaster. Just gotta move outta the way...

Its not the original Godzilla. The filmmakers confirmed its a reboot so the 1954 film is NOT connected to this.

This comment section is atrocious. To think that a bunch of Americans actually think they know everything about Godzilla, including how he looks like, just from watching the 2014 movie. Guys, sit down and allow me to educate you. If you guys didn't know, there have been more than 4 different Godzillas, and we even saw some of them die on screen. In fact, this looks like one of the dying Godzilla, as his skin is tearing open and the readiation can be seen seeping out. In that old movie, he actually exploded like a nuclear bomb, which another Godzilla absorbed to become stronger. This Godzilla is more like the real Godzilla than the 2014 one, cause while the Gman is bulky, he by no means some whale looking fuck. He is also much stronger than the 2014 one, as the last Japanese Godzilla movie showed him taking a meteorite head on without flinching. Educate yourselves a bit by watching some older Godzilla movies or watch the deathbattle between Godzilla and Gamera, as it will brush you up on his histology.

Practically each shot is perfect. Godzilla 2014 looks like a halloween attraction rollercoaster in comparison, with monsters jumping out of nowhere, before disappearing into the dust and smoke. This guy's appearance is intimidating enough to keep him in the shot all the times, and it still creeps you out. What was the real reason not to release it worldwide?... Seems like a perfect movie for the big screens (aren't their sales in decline with all the digital stuff nowadays?). In fact, it's the only way to watch such a film anyway, you simply wouldn't get "a giant monster" effect otherwise (unless you have a 100''+ screen at your place that is).
The cinematography in the 2014 Godzilla is miles ahead of this, and so is the design

fbrdj I have to respectfully disagree with everything you said. Especially the design part. Design is not always about functionality and realism. It's more of a western approach to things. Godzilla does not need to feel realistic, quite the opposite in fact, it's a giant walking symbol of nuclear warfare, exactly what they did here. 2014 lost every aspect of that, he's just a beast, a realistically looking one yes, but that was never the point with Godzilla and all the monsters within the franchise. The good thing about two parallel versions is that both of us can have things we enjoy, you get your realism and high budget effects, and I get japanese fantasy and a totally different emotional focus.

I have to disagree with you. Godzilla needs to feel realistic enough, that it feels like he is alive. I mean an actual living, moving, creature. The keyword is moving.
Look at Godzilla in this trailer. He doenst move. He literally just stands still while everything is happening around him. Only his tail moves. Godzilla in this trailer, looks more like a statue.

Actually, Godzilla will be portrayed using a large puppet, and possibly a suit, both enhanced with CGI.
That would be a lot better than seeing him fully computer generated which still would look fake like your watching a B monster movie that premiere's on Sci Fi every late Saturday.

The look was on purpose. This version was made directly for the true fans. This version was made by TOHO, used a rubber suit, and was purposely made to look cheap (but it did have a somewhat small budget) to bring back nostalgia. They tried their best to bring back the feelings of the old movies and I for one like that.
In that case they have failed miserably. For one, the zipper line for the suit is no where to be seen. also, the city doesn't look like miniatures at all. The explosions don't look like fireworks, instead they look like, um, explosions. The music is also totally different... they should have used the exact same music!
