I don't think I've ever heard a soundtrack so appropriate for a game. The songs are weird but catchy, and played in a minor key with a reverberating quality that makes your skin crawl. With so many bizarre sights and sounds, Bio Hazard Battle is one of the more memorable - and underrated - Genesis shooters.
You just spit my exact thoughts. I just told my husband maybe because of this soundtrack back in my childhood I have such odd taste in music now days. Amazing tho because the music I listen is very very good. Best game ever! So underrated
It's funny how things stick in your mind, I didn't play this game a lot, only in 1992/1993 and never played again but 27 years later I'll still find myself humming the stage 3 music while I'm working on something, never forgot the weird long legged crab thing either.
absolutely. MDRKJP is a level code for spider man: separation anxiety on genesis. played it casually as a kid. no idea why i still remember that one code to this day
This game is super nostalgic to me. I use to play this with my dad when I was younger and we were like crazy about this game until our genisis broke. I still have the game cartridge with me but always had difficulty remembering the name and finding gameplay of it. But it had to be the music that literally was embedded to my brain bc the minute i played this video and heard it i had so many wonderfull flashbacks of us playing. Thank you
I happy that you and your Dad were playing this together. The memories when I was younger is the main reason why I pretty much just play retro games. I hope you have a Genesis and have this game! Memories are so important!
Seriously reminds me of some of the more avant gard end of the minimal synth genre. What a cool game. Unlike Darius, it makes sense whenever You see fish as bosses. Darius is great too, but just lots of sky fish.
I use to play this all the time as a kid in the 90s!!! Such a underrated game. Thank you for posting this. Brought back so many memories. The sounds and graphics were so cool back then and actually still are. Haha
I know this is pretty simple but the blue creatures at 11:08 look really nice and almost late 90's CGI worthy! This seems like a very well designed and fun game
Cannot *believe* this is a complete playthrough of this old gem of a Sega Megadrive game! I remember playing this as a little girl at my grandmother's house, she had an assortment of lesser-known games and this was one of my favourites. I was too young to get the story I just knew I was the Good Alien killing all the gross Bad Aliens. On Tuesday I found a Switch game called Sega Classics, basically a hodgepodge of old Segas games now playable on the Switch and right there with my absolute favourite game (Streets of Rage 2 - Blaze is coolest character!) this cartridge actually had *Bio-Hazard Battle* and after a few minutes of playing it was like being a child at my grandmother's house again 😭😭😭 Thanks so much for this walkthrough, I'm having troubled getting past a certain point and watching this I think it may be my choice of Weapon (the Red Homing Laser is my favourite) Thanks for helping out fellow fans ⭐️=^_^=⭐️
From the beginning intro soundtrack to the ending of the final battle, this is a freaking awesome piece of music making! This game looks easy as you watch the expert play the game, but in fact is is NASTY hard because you have to have the memory of a savant to follow the patterns of the enemy... plus concentrate past the awesome music! I loved this game...
Thank you very much for posting this amazing blast to the past game. As a kid I couldn't make it passed the 3rd stage as well. Even as an adult looking at what you went through I don't think i would have the patience to go through it. But i'm glad you did... and you did without getting hit once which is an incredible feat! I also appreciate the whole backstory that you gave us because my nephew was along with me watching this and asking why is the world like this... notablly the art style made it seem like everything were just mutated organic figures like we're used to... flying catipllars... giant mantis... but also gigantic simple shaped microscopic virus shapes as well... the monster that used to give me the chills was the giant leach creatures. Great job!
Interestingly, a Japanese fansite apparently had a description of the final boss that questioned whether it was itself a retroviral being. Despite being a machine CREATED BY one of the earlier warring nations--did they use something alien by mistake? In any case, I decided to dream up descriptions and names for the bosses, names following the Greek mythology theme of the English-side ship names. St. 2: City ruins scavenger "Medousa" St. 3: Arboreal parasite "Python" St. 4: Mud-shielded subterranean predator "Antaios" St. 5: Apex aquatic predator "Ketos" St. 6: Machine usurping parasite "Mimas" St. 7: Weapon production facility multifarious defense system "Acheron" St. 8, phase 1: Primary weapon production control system "Pandora" St. 8, phases 2 and 3: Defective alien terraforming master control system "Epimetheus"
Took me a moment to figure it out when I saw the screenshot in the manual but the space station at the start of the game and ending is the Sulaco from Aliens, or at least heavily inspired by it.
Played this as a kid with a friend and it left an impression on me since then. Very mysterious as there arnt many credits to studios and I hadn't played r-type so had nothing to compare it to. Then there's the music
Beautiful looking game. Great music too. I just bought this. Can't wait to play it with the Sega arcade stick, and a cable from the mega Drive headphone jack plugged into my gaming chair (with the bass activated rumble tweaked to turn on at the loudest parts.) Hurry up Mr. Postman!
Damned fine underrated shmup, never really hear this one talked about when people talk Genesis shmups. Damned shame too, because it's actually really good.
I don’t like to use this word much these days because the internet kind of made every game ever have acolytes and defenders, but I think this game is kind of underrated. It’s just a solid shmup with a ton of character. Still haven’t beaten it. But it’s on the short list of games I have to beat sooner rather than later.
Awesome game, underrated at the time for being a cheap game at the time. My favorite ship was the sting ray because he had the homeing lazer option. Second best was the brine shrimp dude he had the homing bubbles that do massive damage, in the end total nostalgia!
Ah, a very good nostalgic game I remember to be that one that give me the feeling to read and write about apocalyptic events and the way life goes on despite the changes. Also, as I didn’t know the real names of the four characters that one chose to play, so I nicknamed them based on what they look like. Sawblade - Top left Arrowfin - Top right Quito - Bottom left Aramark - Bottom right
I am not even a huge fan of space shooters but this was just an outstanding game. It is probably my second favorite shooter next to "Last Resort" on the Neo Geo.
I just decided to get into shmups. This is my 1st purchase. So far i beat practice mode, and got to level 4 on easy. I think I'll be a pro by the end of the year :). I had some experience with arrow flash, so I'm catching on. Shoot em ups might be the best genre ever.
this shit turned me into a video game monster... @ 8:18 you have to have 2 players to blow his ass up... I still play this game... One of my ALL TIME FAVORITES!!!! (them fucking sounds yo)
I remember this game and I finished it with my brother waww good memories when I was a kid. The graphic was good at the time, one thing I didn't like is after you complete the all game you gonna realize that is too short. But enjoyable
My mom (she got me in shmups back in 1984 with Demon Attack, Vangaurd, and Phoenix on the 2600 and 1988 with Gradius on NES) and I rented this one in mid to late 1992 and finished it in one setting but played it a few more times.
One of the under-estimated SHMUPS for the Sega Genesis. And the entire soundtrack was just CREEPY as hell!!! Great game and the 2-d Polygon graphics were just fucking awesome for its TIME!! I remember playing the DEMO version at the Consumer Electronics Show in early 1990. All of the music was TOTALLY different!!! Still plays in my head like I was just there!!! a nice RE-BOOT of this would be creepy but AWESOME!!!
This game should've been put on the Sega Mega Drive/Genesis Mini list!!! After all this is one of the rare Sega produced shoot em ups they ever made?!! Crying/Bio Hazard Battle deserves it's status in the 21st century as Sega insist on shoving their usual shovelware games list?! Why not put in one of their own made shoot em ups in the mini as well?!....
100%
Mid soundtrack
You just spit my exact thoughts. I just told my husband maybe because of this soundtrack back in my childhood I have such odd taste in music now days. Amazing tho because the music I listen is very very good. Best game ever! So underrated

That music on the title screen and the first level is so eerie sounding. Gives you goosebumps.
It’s the sound of being hunted.
The sound track is sick!!!:)
The OST for Stage 3 and 4 are my ULTIMATE favourites
Seriously reminds me of some of the more avant gard end of the minimal synth genre. What a cool game. Unlike Darius, it makes sense whenever You see fish as bosses. Darius is great too, but just lots of sky fish.
That boss theme
That is what made this game stick out 30 years into the future on me. I still can hear it in my head sometimes. That music.
18:12 Massive battleship that may have been deployed to protect the planet's inhabitants are now colony of great biohazard.
Soundtrack was soooo ahead of its time lmao. Level 1 song is my ringtone.
loved this game. Many a beer marathon 2 player on this one. Would love to see a remake HD like R-Type.
As soon as I heard the music start at the very beginning of the video, I remembered this game.
I played this game as a kid and clocked it. It has always been a favourite of mine from saga.
I use to play this all the time as a kid in the 90s!!! Such a underrated game. Thank you for posting this. Brought back so many memories. The sounds and graphics were so cool back then and actually still are. Haha
One of my fave 16bit shooters. Biomechanics + killer OST. Very underrated game.
The “boss” fight music is bad ass and eerie as hell
God, so nostalgic haha. Music was insane when I was a kid.
Hours and hours spent playing this in my friend's unfinished basement.
Reginald Andrews definitely agree man!
Soundtrack of this game was/is amazing ! I'm 41 and its still memorable after some 25+ years to this day. I'm sure other people can relate. Cheers!
I remember PLAYING this at my uncle's house THE title music STILL is unsettling in a GOOD way THO it stuck with me.
Thank you for uploading this. One of my favorite games off all time.
the best
I know this is pretty simple but the blue creatures at 11:08 look really nice and almost late 90's CGI worthy! This seems like a very well designed and fun game
You make this game look so easy, I couldn't get past the second level!
One hit and you're dead, you only get 3 lives too.
Not if you go to Options and change them to 5.
He’s using the best power up, that red laser owns
That's me with every shmup lol.
God I fucking loved this game.
Cannot *believe* this is a complete playthrough of this old gem of a Sega Megadrive game!

Did I just see a no death run of Bio Hazard Battle? Impressive!
Loved its music. No wonder i listen to weird shit as an adult.
hahah!!
Seriously...LOL.....I as just humming it the other day after so many years....so here I am looking it up.
what is some weird shit you listen to
and now that us me, too
This game takes me back to my childhood, playing for hours on end. The laser is still my favourite weapon.
Soundtrack of this game was/is amazing ! I'm 41 and its still memorable after some 25+ years to this day. I'm sure other people can relate. Cheers!
I’m 33 and was playing this when I was 5...the soundtrack was eerie then and remains eerie now!
One of my favorite soundtracks of all time.

Glad you enjoyed the video :)
Most underrated soundtrack EVER!!
Very underrated title on the Sega Genesis
this is a very well made shooter with some nice graphics 8/10
Had this back in the day. Love this game. Great memories!
My brother and I fucking loved this game! been searching for years because i forgot the title till today. Thanks for the trip down memory lane!
You gotta pay CLOSE attention to enemy shots because they are so small to noticed.During a bombardment of enemies.
Was hard to look away. I can see now that I have only made it a third of the way through this thing in the past. Such awesome art design.
You playing this on Hard with 3 starting lives made me realize just how much I suck at this game. lol
Loved this game growing up. Keep up the good work
This game, streets of rage 2 and fifa 93, I loved my sega
In Sega Genesis Classics this one of my main games. This was the first one I played of the 50 games.
This should be up there with Thunder Force for great Genesis exclusives (and great Genesis soundtracks)
Interestingly, a Japanese fansite apparently had a description of the final boss that questioned whether it was itself a retroviral being. St. 8, phase 1: Primary weapon production control system "Pandora"
St. 8, phases 2 and 3: Defective alien terraforming master control system "Epimetheus"
The ships have names??!?
Good Lord, I remember playing this game with my dad and brothers when I was five.
...I'm just shy of 27 now. Fuck.
Man the sound design in this game is perfect! It’s so weird and creepy and strange.
I can’t believe I’ve never heard of this game before.
Took me a moment to figure it out when I saw the screenshot in the manual but the space station at the start of the game and ending is the Sulaco from Aliens, or at least heavily inspired by it.

Hard to believe that game was also known as Crying in Japan
It was Crying: Aseimei Sensou
Hard to believe that they changed its distinctive name for something as generic as "bio hazard battle"
Postman!
My grandfather and I used to play this game together. So hard and so much fun!
This is... my game...
It all started here...
Damned fine underrated shmup, never really hear this one talked about when people talk Genesis shmups. Damned shame too, because it's actually really good.
miss this game
one of the best games i played on the sega md
I don’t like to use this word much these days because the internet kind of made every game ever have acolytes and defenders, but I think this game is kind of underrated. It’s just a solid shmup with a ton of character. Still haven’t beaten it. But it’s on the short list of games I have to beat sooner rather than later.
Great spritework for its time.
I just love how bizarre it is.
The second level sounds like Free Will by Rush
I never played this, but I think I would have loved it as a kid.
So happy to see this! Very Underrated game!
I had not heard of it before today... Sad I didn't own it back in the day. That music is perfect for the game too!
Awesome game, underrated at the time for being a cheap game at the time. My favorite ship was the sting ray because he had the homeing lazer option. Second best was the brine shrimp dude he had the homing bubbles that do massive damage, in the end total nostalgia!
Aspie Otaku couldn't have said it better
two ships shared the homing laser, I think the fly one had it too. My brother and I always fought over it. xD
@@BeckyNosferatu me and my brother too :-D
Ah, a very good nostalgic game I remember to be that one that give me the feeling to read and write about apocalyptic events and the way life goes on despite the changes.

Sawblade - Top left
Arrowfin - Top right

Aramark - Bottom right
this game scared the shit out of me as a kid but i loved it
Same!
I am glad they put this game in sega genesis collection. I never played it when i was a kid. It was an amazing surprise. (Sorry for my bad english)
Love this game, play a lot one Summer with my friend and his father.
Best shoot them up, art design, music, the top !!!!!!!
Mon premier jeu vidéo
my friend shawn lamby had this game used to play when we were kids
I am not even a huge fan of space shooters but this was just an outstanding game. It is probably my second favorite shooter next to "Last Resort" on the Neo Geo.
Oh ya, I also loved NES version of Section Z.
The biggest enemy are the unwanted power-ups xD
14:06 THAT was close!!
Respect for the good run, i suck in the underwater level...
The boss music though. It took me years to find out the name of this game. My dad and I would play it all the time on a box TV when I was a kid.
I just decided to get into shmups. This is my 1st purchase. So far i beat practice mode, and got to level 4 on easy. I think I'll be a pro by the end of the year :). I had some experience with arrow flash, so I'm catching on. Shoot em ups might be the best genre ever.
Google play needs to add this to there Sega collection
The level 3 boss reminds me of the Nightmare on elm street boss with freddy's head attached to the chain that lunges at you.
Love the strange music on this excellent stuff 🙂
Fluid animation.
Oh my god YES
Единственный скролл-шутер, который не скучно пройти, есть ещё похожая игра InsectorX - шутер про насекомых.
this shit turned me into a video game monster... @ 8:18 you have to have 2 players to blow his ass up... I still play this game... One of my ALL TIME FAVORITES!!!! (them fucking sounds yo)
Smart move: the stingray is the way to go!
Damn this brings back memories. But also I just realized I never made it past stage 3 as a kid haha.
The bug ship is my favorite...classic shoot em ups! Genesis gang💯💯💯
I remember this game and I finished it with my brother waww good memories when I was a kid. The graphic was good at the time, one thing I didn't like is after you complete the all game you gonna realize that is too short. But enjoyable

I didn't recognize the name or game art, but then the music kicked in..
Amazing video quality!
I think the Japanese title of 'Crying' is more appropriate than biohazard battle.
Большое Спасибо за прохождение 🌾😆🌿
Loved this game
You're unstoppable
I just got threw playing this game and I beat it
This was a unique game.
I was so confused. The music at the beginning didn’t fit the level or any of the music in the game. Then I realised it was the ‘demo’ section 🙃
I love this game
I must get this for my Genesis.
this was a game I wish I could've master
This game looks pretty cool. It reminds me slightly of U.N. Squadron on the SNES. Not the same theme, but similar gameplay.
Yes. Just. Yes
this game was dope
First time seeing this game wow!!!!
Nostalgie
Melhor jogo de nave de todos os tempos
That first stage music kind of sounds like 'Freewill' by Rush.
