It seems strange that you would point out Harry Potter as a boy with special treatment when he is nothing but an orphan. Prof. McGonagall buying the broom for Harry wasn't really favoritism except for Gryffindor House itself. It is quite clear in the books that she wanted her house to win.
@@CinobiteReacts you didn’t miss it, the movies left out a lot of information from the books, because of the time constraints and also, I think because they felt it might be unnecessary filler.
If I remember right, Fatty is actually supposed to be either Patty or Parvati Patil (Parvati is a student, could have been shortened to Patty). You are not the first to hear “fatty” don’t worry. Ron has a total of five older brothers and a younger sister, plus 2 parents, all on a single income so I always thought that Ron seemed to really love food as much as he did because he had to eat fast or risk not getting enough. John Cleese was Nearly Headless Nick. If you can’t tell, I’m a Ravenclaw which is typically seen as the book smart house (not a hard and fast rule).
I love watching reactions from people that haven't read the books just to see how well they follow along with how much information is cut from the novels.
@@CinobiteReacts The books got MUCH longer as the story progressed. I think Order of the Phoenix is over 900 pages. The first three films were very close to the books overall but after that major adaptation had to be done. I'm a Ravenclaw so I don't mind long books.
With all the points other viewers have addressed, I am surprised no one has talked about finding a wand. In the books, the process is actually like finding a pair of shoes but more complicated. The details got cut from the movie. I presume this was to save time. As you progress though the movies, there will be a fair number of things which seem completely arbitrary or happenstance. It is just one of the downsides of trying to condense large books into (relatively) short movies. The movies are to the books as the movie reaction videos are to the movies. Quidditch is another great example. In the movies, it is used primarily as just filler action and a lot of reactors comment on the "lack of rules". The "lack of rules" is a movie issue. The books actually provide quite a few rules including details on the point system (including penalties). Another viewer already mentioned the largest point of confusion for reactors, the role of the golden snitch. Indeed, the movie makes it seem like an automatic win; rendering the rest of the game pointless. However, that is far from the case. It just has a point value so high that, at the level Harry is playing at, it is almost always the same as winning.
They changed the title in America because they didn't think Americans would associate the word Philosopher with wizardry. So they sort of dumbed it down, so Americans would know it's about magic. Overall I think it wasn't needed to be changed but oh well what can ya do.
Gryffindor : bravery and courage. Gryffindors never back down from a fight or doing what they believe is right. Ravenclaw: values learning, wisdom, wit, and intellect. Students are academically motivated and creative thinkers. Hufflepuff: valuing hard work, dedication, patience, loyalty, and fair play rather than a particular aptitude in its student. Slytherin: cunning, ambition and a tendency to look after their own self instead of others. Some other traits include shrewdness and breaking rules to always win.
Parvati (Patel) 😅 It Did sound like Fatty, though 🤣 Professor Mcgonnagal who bought that broom to Harry is a massive Quidditch fan. She was a really great player herself, when she was a student. Also, Slytherin had won the House cup six years in a row, so I guess she thought it was about time it went to Gryffindor. About owles on the watch, The caretaker Mr Filches cat, mrs Norris, seems to be on constant watch after wrongdoers, and when she finds one, she seems to call on her master via telepathy. Spooky!
Yeah if it's like socks or something sure, but they literally give him stuff that gives him a massive advantage over the other kids - like the Nimbus! :)
Publishers in America changed it because they didn't think kids would pick up a book about a Philosopher. Sorcerer sounds so much cooler and "Magical", especially since they marketed this book to boys at first. I'm in house Ravenclaw.
I'm American and my copies all say "Sorcerer's Stone", but I still call it Philosopher's Stone because I'm an anime watcher and Fullmetal Alchemist ingrained that into me 😆

This often gets lost in translation from book to movie since you're not seeing the word written out on the page but, the reason all the buildings in Diagon Alley are all crooked is because of the name. Diagon Alley > DiagonAlley > Diagonally. It's a play on the word diagonally, hence, diagonal buildings.
@@CinobiteReacts also when u can use magic in construction you're less concerned with straight orderly buildings and just build in whatever direction works and is available
You said, "When you can do magic, you can do anything." alluding to why they just don't fix eyesight and levitate instead of using stairs. What you're not getting is that everyone's powers to USE the magic effectively and efficiently must be developed. It doesn't mean they can just create a perfect world. Even witches & wizards have limits to their abilities like anyone else.
16:50 "Looks like Wales". Scotland actually. This summer, I was lucky to see the Hogwarts Express drive over the Glenfinnan Viaduct, just like in the movie. There were so many tourists, but I'm happy to have seen it in person.
19:34 Talking past my favorite line in the whole movie... Malfoy: You don't want to go making friends with the wrong sort. I can help you there Harry: I think I can thell the wrong sort for myself, thanks.
The reasoning why the name is different in the US is because they thought kids back before the book was released wouldn't be interested in it with the word Philosophers in it
When you are done with the series, please come back to this video and make a reaction video of your reaction. About what magic can do in the HP world, I always find it fascinating what people expect when first watching. Maybe think about it as you would about physics and technology? Some rules apply regardless and are picked up intuitively, like gravity, some need study and training for various degrees of mastering, and some problems simply cannot be solved for the time being. Mastering magic in the HP universe is a work in progress. Spells are newly invented, wands are designed but then take on a mind of their own, and it is not fully understood how that works. A wand is not strictly necessary, it helps channeling and directing the magic. Spells can be used without saying them, but that has to be trained. One reactor had a specific problem with the different means of magical transportation (basically you get something new in every new movie), but they all have specific purposes and disadvantages, just like in the real world, where we have bikes and skates and cars and trains etc.
Gryffindor Wand is 9 3/4 inches willow wood with dragon heart string Patronus (you'll learn about them later) - Dolphin In the mirror of erised I would see myself married with kids traveling around the world.
I've just found your channel and I'm loving it already. I always enjoy watching something I love for the first time and enjoying it. I'm a Hufflepuff btw. Can't wait to see your reactions to the other movies.
Not many people realise it, but at the end Dumbledore basically return 150 points that had been brutally taken from guys for a night walk and add 20 extra-points. Not that big deal from this point of view))) And everyone is pissed by Slitherin winning 7 years in a row mostly because Snape takes points from everyone else, snitching and cheating (like Malfoy with the dragon), so it was kinda lesson for them too. Also it is badly shown in the films, but Harry gets a lot more pressure, then favouritism. Everyone expects him to be ideal, when he is just a regular, badly traumatised teenager. And people really hate him aaaall the time with the same passion as they liked him a second before.
They just don't want Harry to be happy. So no magic, no going away a school of magic and learning something that might make him happy, as long as they were feeding and clothing him and being put at such a disadvantage. Harry should be grateful for what scraps they gave him.
48:20 It's a curse called imperious that forces you to do the user's bidding, against your will. Harry was trying not to walk towards him, but he was cursed.
I think it was changed to something more obviously magical sounding. I don't think anyone in the US would associate 'philosopher' with something magic. -Hermione isn't a muggle. Her parents are. Muggles can't do magic. Magic parents can have non-magic kids called squibs. Filch is a squib. -The golden snitch is not actually an automatic win. It just adds 150 points and ends the game. In school level quidditch that probably is an instant win but on the professional level it's possible to catch the snitch and still lose. -And yes that was warwick's voice but that wasn't warwick. He played the teller but not the one that walked him to the vault(grip hook). That was verne troyer. But troyer is American so warwick did griphook's voice as well. Warwick later plays griphook because troyer died. So warwick plays 3 characters in this series. -They are magic but they are also inexperienced children still going to school to be taught and medical magic is a specialty I would assume. -First years take the boats to see the castle for the first time. All the others take carriages. -Ron, Fred, George, Ginny, Bill, Percy, and Charlie -Voldemort didn't let him live. He tried to kill him and it failed Also you might be surprised at the views from Harry Potter reactions.
The only reason I knew it (in the US) was because a philosopher's stone was a requirement to do alchemy in Dungeons and Dragons (which I played a lot of in the 80's/90's).
Ah right, so the goblin didn't look like Warwick, but then it sounded like him and it was all mixed up which was confusing! I think he's quite a few different characters in HP
AFAIK the name of the book was changed in the US because American publishers didn't think kids would want to read a book with "philosopher" in the title and the change stuck around even through the movies.
The Weasley's have 7 childeren. Charley, and Bill have already graduated from Hogwarts. Percy is in his 6th year, and is a school Prefect. Fred and George are in their 3rd year. Ron is in his first year. Ginny is only 10, so she won't start until next year.
"Is it really a troll? Or is it just Hagrid on a bender?" ROFLMAO and someone has probably already corrected you (but I am not scrolling through all the comments to find out lol), but her name is 'Pavarti Patil', she's one of several twins seen in the series. Since I see you've reacted already to all of them (working my way through the playlist lol), the Patil twins were the ones who went with Harry and Ron to the Yule Ball in the Goblet of fire. I love that idea of 'Owl CCTV' lol. "Ooo thought I just saw a spider there.' Not me thinking - just wait until Chamber of Secrets and Deathly Hallows Pt 2!! lol Slytherin represent!
There are 7 weasley's kids, Bill Weasley, Charlie Weasley, Percy Weasley, Fred and George Weasley, Ronald Weasley, Ginny Weasley, and then are the parents, Molly and Arthur Weasley
I’m a ravenclaw. We’re the studious ones… nerds. I embrace it. :) also my house colors are blue and bronze (in the books, blue/silver in the movies). And my fav color is blue and i love the warm metallics (bronze, gold, copper, etc).
I think Quidditch is a a comment on cricket, rugby and football all mixed into one [sort of] Oh, I don't know what I would see in that mirror, but in the book Dumbledore says that he sees himself with nice warm socks.
Ravenclaw here. The majority of tests sort me into Hufflepuff, but I did the Buzzfeed one, which is considered the best and most accurate one, and got Ravenclaw there. I like to imagine that the Hat was about to sort me into Hufflepuff, but decided to send me into Ravenclaw in the end. Got to do the Wizarding World one still... Harry almost got Slytherin, Hermione almost got Ravenclaw and NEVILLE ALMOST GOT HUFFLEPUFF, as you very well said, "He looks like a Hufflepuff". Ravenclaws are the intellectual ones, by the way
Potter is not a marry sue there are valid reasons for his successes that take almost the entire series to explain why, also he does not over shadow everyone at everything Ron and Herminy are both better are things then he is
I’ve been binging reactions from different channels for HP and others like twilight- I love love reactions and seeing first time watchers. Brings me so much inner peace ❤️ I think they changed it because of the word “sorcerer” was banned in some places (not sure) Also if you watch them all- watch the deleted scene in the last movie
It's the other way around. They changed it to sorcerer because American kids wouldn't buy a philosophy book...they wouldn't associate "Philosopher Stone" with magic. So "Harry Potter and the Philosopher something" wasn't considered a title that would turn into sales. After the success of the first book there was never a problem because kids knew who Harry Potter was.
I'm a Ravenclaw with an Occamy as my patronus (you'll learn what one is later). My wand is Larch with a dragon core, 12.5", and rigid flexibility... which makes me giggle because I'm mature like that. There's an official quiz out there to figure it out, but you might wait until you find out the patronus stuff.
A rarely heard observation: "I want to see an X-rated version of this." lol I'm sure it exists somewhere. If not, they're likely filming one now for Amazon Prime. ;) Also, right around the time Harry kills his first wizard at age 11 ... "Harry is a weak ass bitch." They're just kids ... and the first two movies in particular have some whimsical fantasy.

I'm an American Gryffindor I'm familiar with the sorcerer's Stone title but I know that it was originally philosopher's Stone and that's because when it went to the coming of movie people were like Americans aren't familiar with the term philosopher's Stone they they don't know what that is so we'll call it the sorcerer's Stone and it's going to be a thing that is basically of this world but I actually googled and the philosopher's Stone actually is something that she did not make up I mean it's not real something that could actually turn metals into gold and brew and elixir of life but it is a thing outside of Harry Potter
Dumbledore says he sees socks when he looks in the mirror, he says everyone brings him such great gifts they think he might want but he just wants a pair of thick socks.. LOL. However it's believed he lied and sees his sister Ariana..
Some facts and clarifications: 1) In official additional materials it is stated that there's such a thing as the gene of magic, which means one cannot gain magic - you have to be born with it. Also, magic starts manifesting when a kid is about eight, and being able to control it is considered to be a sign of extreme talent (there will be some info about it later). 2) When the backgrounds were designed, the creators selected the ugliest furniture they could find for the Dursleys' house - to increase the impression, so to say. 3) Before Uncle Vernon warns Harry about "funny business", a view of the street is shown, and all the houses and cars look the same. This is a hint that being different is not tolerated here. Anyway, it is just scratching on the surface. Ravenclaw here, by the way!
@@CinobiteReacts In case of Hermione, both her parents appeared to be the carriers of the gene of magic (it is recessive), but powerless, and it manifested in her (this topic will be touched later). The same thing happened to Harry's mother: she and her sister (Aunt Petunia) had non-magic parents, but Lily was born with powers and Petunia - without them. (This will also be recalled; no spoilers!) I'll say that this series has so many hidden hints and details that this is just scratching on the surface. Also, as beautiful as they are, the movies cannot fit everything contained in the books

Prof. McGonagall buying the broom for Harry wasn't really favoritism except for Gryffindor House itself. It is quite clear in the books that she wanted her house to win.
I might have missed it in Part 1, but I just recorded Part 2 and it's clear she is the house head so that makes sense.
Excellent! Fellow Ravenclaw ❤️
🤣 That would make more sense than Fatty Patel.
That makes sense about Ron eating too!
Parvati Patil is a Gryffindor..her twin Padma is in Ravenclaw
@@kpcraftster6580 Yes. But the movies put Padma in Gryffindor for some reason.
I love watching reactions from people that haven't read the books just to see how well they follow along with how much information is cut from the novels.
It's can be hard! There is SO MUCH information and they often only mention things once and the never again 🤣
I think the title change was reflected first in the book not the movies. And indeed the use of "sorcerer" made the books far more attractive to kids.
“Awful dressing gown “ oh god I lost it 😂😂
Gryffindor : bravery and courage.
Filch rolling his eyes at Hagrid is so funny
“I’m gonna call him Scraggle Cat” as if they didn’t just say “Mrs Norris” lol
Scoffing about cheering Neville... I'm about to binge all these reactions. If this dude isn't cheering Neville by the end, I riot.
You'll like the final film/video ;)
Parvati (Patel) 😅
It Did sound like Fatty, though 🤣
Professor Mcgonnagal who bought that broom to Harry is a massive Quidditch fan.
Spooky!
13:41 yes, that is John Hurt.
All the great quotes
You're a wizard, Harry!
I am your father!
Just noting dumbledore doesn’t say to not dream. He says not to spend all your time dreaming of what could be and not living.
the teachers know harry is an orphan basically, he has no adults to look out for him, or to buy him what he needs, so they step in a little bit
Yeah, I interned at Scholastic publishers in New York and I sat right next to the office of the editor who published the series in America!
Book title was changed to Sorcerer Stone, because Scholastic (the us publishes) thought kids would not understand Philosopher in the US.
“Harry Potter’s a weak assed bitch.”
11 year old Harry then immediately murders a man with his bare hands.
🤣 True lol, but he does always fall over and faint all the time :P
@@CinobiteReacts he literally didn’t faint once this movie. Lol
I'm American and my copies all say "Sorcerer's Stone", but I still call it Philosopher's Stone because I'm an anime watcher and Fullmetal Alchemist ingrained that into me 😆
I'm glad I stumbled onto you - you have a nice style of reacting. I have watched a number of people who have done reactions to the Harry Potter series and I am looking forward to following you [I like seeing people's honest first reactions to stories I know, it's almost like inviting a friend over to show them a favourite movie]
hah thank you :) They're really fun to watch, I don't know what I'm going to do after the last one, back to serious boring films :P
@@CinobiteReacts you might take a look at the fabulous beasts series they were not as successful but I found them with watching.
That's genius! and makes so much sense now.
Ron could do it!
@@CinobiteReacts LOL. Ron can be useful every once in a while.
I can help you there
Harry: I think I can thell the wrong sort for myself, thanks.
It's a good line
I'm very glad you DONT talk articulate like Hermione. Lol Great reaction! ❤
😅
My fella's cat would probably just turn into Cat from Red Dwarf.
That makes sense I guess! Although they should have a magic doctor :)
@@CinobiteReacts oh, they do. At Hogwarts they only have a nurse, but there is a Hospital called Mungo's. It's mainly for magical injuries though
@@nachtsunterwegs I think it's a pity that they didn't put in that one particular scene at Mungo's in The order of the phoenix.
I'm still salty about Dumbledore and the points at the end as a Slytherin, I would have been so upset if that had happened to me
According to Pottermore, I am a Ravenclaw. My 13 year old says it's accurate because I am a know-it-all and a little weird lol
Brave and bold GRYFFINDOR here....
Gryffindor
Wand is 9 3/4 inches willow wood with dragon heart string
Patronus (you'll learn about them later) - Dolphin
In the mirror of erised I would see myself married with kids traveling around the world.
I've just found your channel and I'm loving it already. I always enjoy watching something I love for the first time and enjoying it. I'm a Hufflepuff btw. Can't wait to see your reactions to the other movies.
Thank you so much! I hope you enjoy the rest!
The actual train runs from Ft. William to Malliag in Scotland.
48:20 It's a curse called imperious that forces you to do the user's bidding, against your will. Harry was trying not to walk towards him, but he was cursed.
Ha!! A proud Slytherin. Enjoyed your reaction.
Thanks! :) Hopefully more to come soon!
-Ron, Fred, George, Ginny, Bill, Percy, and Charlie
-Voldemort didn't let him live. He tried to kill him and it failed
Also you might be surprised at the views from Harry Potter reactions.
@@CinobiteReacts yeah. the bank teller, prof. flitwick and eventually griphook.
Privet Drive is in Surrey [that is to say, the Potterverse location - not where the set is - the set is 12 Picket Post Close, Bracknell, Berkshire]
Somebody at the studio decided that kids in the USA would not go to see a movie with "philosopher" in the title...
The Weasley's have 7 childeren. Charley, and Bill have already graduated from Hogwarts. Percy is in his 6th year, and is a school Prefect. Fred and George are in their 3rd year. Ron is in his first year. Ginny is only 10, so she won't start until next year.
I LOVE THIA CHANNEL! This is the first video I watched and I am in love!
Harry is a lot less of a Mary Sue in the books and later in the movies. Much more likeable.
HI from a proud Slytherin, happy to see you reacting to this series
As an American, I’ve definitely always said “tights” rather than “pantyhose” lol
"I don't really know what happens when he gets there."
He dies.
24:58 I love how you edited it to make it look like Neville dropped 70 feet to the ground 😂
hah yeah I can't lie, that was on purpose :P
There are 7 weasley's kids, Bill Weasley, Charlie Weasley, Percy Weasley, Fred and George Weasley, Ronald Weasley, Ginny Weasley, and then are the parents, Molly and Arthur Weasley
Potter is the seaker his only job is the chase the golden little ball
Ron would've been lucky to grow up to look like you. His situation is..well.. unfortunate.😊
Happy that you're reacting to Harry Potter! It's so good! I prefer the books of course, but you'll enjoy the films too!
I’m a ravenclaw. We’re the studious ones… nerds. I embrace it. :) also my house colors are blue and bronze (in the books, blue/silver in the movies). And my fav color is blue and i love the warm metallics (bronze, gold, copper, etc).
“Ahhh I thought there was a spider there!” just you wait 😂
🤣🤣🕷️🕷️
To be fair to Harry, he is only 11 in this film and new to the Wizarding World
I think Quidditch is a a comment on cricket, rugby and football all mixed into one [sort of]
Oh, I don't know what I would see in that mirror, but in the book Dumbledore says that he sees himself with nice warm socks.
I would be in Hufflepuff.
Madam Hooch is the Quidditch coach/ flying instructor.
Ravenclaws are the intellectual ones, by the way
Potter is not a marry sue there are valid reasons for his successes that take almost the entire series to explain why, also he does not over shadow everyone at everything Ron and Herminy are both better are things then he is
Just subbed looking forward to going on this journey with you brother just gets better and better
Thanks for subbing
The fact he called Hermione a muggle in the intro was proof enough he doesn’t know much about what he’s about to watch lol
🤣🤣
Has there ever been a teacher as useless as Hooch? 1 lesson a year "teaching" kids how to fly, reffing a couple of games, that's it - I'm applying!
The “basic test” was Harry trying out the wands. lol
I’ve been binging reactions from different channels for HP and others like twilight- I love love reactions and seeing first time watchers. Brings me so much inner peace ❤️
I think they changed it because of the word “sorcerer” was banned in some places (not sure)
Also if you watch them all- watch the deleted scene in the last movie
It's the other way around. They changed it to sorcerer because American kids wouldn't buy a philosophy book...they wouldn't associate "Philosopher Stone" with magic. So "Harry Potter and the Philosopher something" wasn't considered a title that would turn into sales. After the success of the first book there was never a problem because kids knew who Harry Potter was.
From the description in the books I think you could pass for Charlie Weasley.
Now I have to hope I get Gryffindor on the quiz!
I took the test 4 times and got Ravenclaw/Ravenclaw/Gryffindor/Ravenclaw. So I call myself a Ravenclaw.
I'll have to try and find it!
Honestly, Hogwart's is the worst school to send your kid to. It's extremely dangerous there. lol
It's like living in Albert Square (if you're in the UK)
you're jokes have had me giggling this whole time 🤭 I'm so glad I subscribed
Thanks for the sub 😁
A rarely heard observation: "I want to see an X-rated version of this." lol
I'm sure it exists somewhere. If not, they're likely filming one now for Amazon Prime. ;)
Also, right around the time Harry kills his first wizard at age 11 ... "Harry is a weak ass bitch."
They're just kids ... and the first two movies in particular have some whimsical fantasy.
🤣🤣🤣🤣
@@CinobiteReacts Please don't take that as criticism ... I'm just trying to help with the algorithm, and those were the things that came to mind. :)
Just found your channel in my recommendations. Harry Potter is my favorite series so I'm excited to see your reactions! 💕
I'm in Gryffindor 🦁❤💛 but I've also gotten Ravenclaw on the quiz before so I consider it my second house. I've gotten Gryffindor too many times to deny it though lol.
Btw your cat is adorable! I saw it in one of your thumbnails. And now in this video too lol.
Hey, thanks! Harry Potter 3 is on the way! :)
@@CinobiteReacts Awesome! That's my favorite one. I'll watch the Chamber of Secrets reaction in the meantime. 🙂
43:12 Your cat's just flat asleep in the background 😂
"I'd love to see a dark harry potter" ouuuuhhhh just you wait. It's comming
You Realize that Harry is calm about all this new information cause living with the Dursleys are hell
Yeah the Dursleys are awful
The kitty at 28:30 :) (I love cats)
Dumbledore says he sees socks when he looks in the mirror, he says everyone brings him such great gifts they think he might want but he just wants a pair of thick socks.. LOL. However it's believed he lied and sees his sister Ariana..
He’s definitely lying. I don’t think it would’ve been smart for him to tell an 11 year old about his sister.
Harry potter books was so popular that it became the second most translated book in the world after the Bible. it is big.
26:20 That is so true. Whenever I try to get somewhere with them. they end up some how making the trip way longer.
Some facts and clarifications:
1) In official additional materials it is stated that there's such a thing as the gene of magic, which means one cannot gain magic - you have to be born with it.
Thanks for the info!
How do muggles get to be magic? Like Hermione?
@@CinobiteReacts In case of Hermione, both her parents appeared to be the carriers of the gene of magic (it is recessive), but powerless, and it manifested in her (this topic will be touched later). The same thing happened to Harry's mother: she and her sister (Aunt Petunia) had non-magic parents, but Lily was born with powers and Petunia - without them. (This will also be recalled; no spoilers!)
I'll say that this series has so many hidden hints and details that this is just scratching on the surface. Also, as beautiful as they are, the movies cannot fit everything contained in the books
