What a nice exchange sacrifice, giving up the rook for Carlsen's most active piece (the knight) in order to get a positional and clear advantage in the endgame. Super class play!
That's precisely the way Alpha Zero plays. Sacrifice material for the better position, the destroy the opponent. NB: not only the knight, but also the most active pawn (soon-to-be-queen).
I just realized that Magnus and MVL are trolling the arbiter before the game by pretending to pre-plan a draw, after the whole Dubov-Nepo thing. 🤣 Magnus: "You know there's a stalemate in 13 moves, yeah?" MVL: "No, 10 is better." Both: *laughs* MVL: “With Qe6 at the end.” Magnus: “Ah, yeah yeah yeah, I was thinking about the one with…” (inaudible) MVL: (inaudible)… “yeah yeah with Bh4.” Magnus: “Yeah, yeah.” MVL: (to arbiter) “Yeah, we’ll make your job easier.”
After Re3 in the endgame (around 9:00) , why didn’t Magnus take the rook? He instead brought his king to f8 to defend the rook and MVL approached with his king as well. I wonder how white can make progress with the lone Bishop and the 2 extra pawns on the queenside.
Can someone explain why Magnus didn't play a6, kicking the knight and saving the pawn at the same time? You could tell he was thinking about that move for a while and then gave up the pawn to castle... Seems like the pawn majority on that side had a huge effect on the endgame though.
After a5 by MVL, if Magnus were to play a6, MVL would play bishop b6, attacking the black queen. Queen moves, and now the bishop on b6 protects c7, so knight c7 is a fork of the king and the rook. Magnus would lose a rook for a knight, would lose his right to castle, and MVL would have the white bishop protected on b6, so that's why he gave up the pawn on a7.

Maxime en a chié grave
This loss put Magnus in berserk mode. He won 6 games in a row afterward
In order to win against Magnus, you have to beat him 3time : in the opening, in the middlegame and in the endgame.
Gg to MVL !

MVL is always a beast for Magnus.
I think he is the one with most wins against carlsen no?😊
He is former blitz champion.
Yes I know
Who is? MVL?
@@MorphysinceC.E Maxime Vachier Lagrave
So now what Is😂
Mm
It is well-known that Maxime is very good at blitz and he has won many tournaments
I love how they still just have a friendly chat before the game starts😂😂
Man MVL is tricky. Just when we thought Magnus had the competition in his hands, the Frenchman strikes. The evaluation bar really says it all!
Feels bad that had magnus done some same blunder with nihal he could have been now at the leader position lucky frenchman with 3 names MVL.
@@thomsonjohnson8218 Maxime is not a lucky frenchman, he is one of the best player in chess 💪🏴☠
Doesn't matter. Magnus still wins it all
@@thomsonjohnson8218lucky💀. Yeah a former world blitz champion by luck huh
No not at all. He used exactly the same moves against Nihal Sarin.
The classy Frenchman MVL 🔥
The two greatest ever chess players to emerge from Europe.
Toujours très classe MVL. BRAVO !
Kudos to MVL for saving humanity once again!
In fast time control, MVL might have been Magnus toughest opponent this year.
and Magnus took this personally and crushed the field after this:)
Except this match
@@digger5521 Yea, that's why he said "crushed the field after this".
Maxime you did it!!!!!!!!!!!!
Chess players: sacrifices the pieces
Magnus: sacrifices the victory
MVL pawn advancements were good....he was quality down but eventually successful in queening the pawn threat....
the man that ruined his undefeated streak, props to mvl, gave magnus his only loss of the whole event !
It's time to summon Drunk Magnus
These games with no comments are an absolute treat, thank you!
MVL stunned Magnus.
Bravo Maxime! Meilleur joueur français.
MVL well played gg
MVL always a difficult opponent for Magnus in blitz and rapid
Yes

What an incredible positional game in the silician by MVL !
I think that in this game, Magnus' problem was that he arrived on time.
That Be3 by MVL, gestures shows game is alrready out of magnus hands

Amazing MVL!!

can we get the virtual board???? wtf
Hukaru and magnus gives same face reactions after loosing
Saw a comment on other video that said "Be so good that your losses are highlights." For realz tho!

Rxe3 and Kf8 are equally good there. The decisive mistake was actually taking the rook a few moves later. Rc8 or f4 was necessary there instead.
Magnus losing is the new content now. Winning ain't fun no more.
What is the purpose of always winning ? What would be the salt of the game ? Undefeated Magnus would be boring
Was for the Frenchman !
Bravo MVL
MVL 🇨🇵
At the end,MVL feels almost sorry for beating Magnus.
Only loss in 5 days , 34 games = 19W + 14D ❤ Blitz 12W + 8 D, Rapid 7W+ 6D. Summary of Rapid and blitz 2023

@@gustavogroeff7239 Thanks. My shortsighted materialistic analysis is why I'm stuck around 1500
He’s losing, but again winning world championship Rapid and Blitz.
Magnus opponents almost always mirror his movements before game …body language is cool
It's always nice to see Magnus lose
Why does the red lady moove the pawn at the beginning ?
Add the virtual board please
MVL, what a beast
its really funny at 4:06 u can see Magnus already knew he had lost
No, but he realised he messed up the opening.
10:35 At that moment he knew for sure that he was going to lose.
