Truly awesome. My palms were sweating just watching. The driver of this 350 had far greater skill in the turns than the lead 350. I was so looking forward to seeing the driver of this 350 pass the lead 350.
289s have very short strokes: 2.87", so they can wind right up. Even the DZ302s were 3.00". Cast crank, too, though on the HiPos & Shelby's, the casting hardness was tested.
I've been lucky enough to see some these gt350s run in person at vir. they sound so great in person!!! I can't wait to see them again hopefully at the end of September
That is exactly the information I was looking for. Thanks, I want to drop one in a Superformamce Mk II FIA with a beefed up T10 , 180 headers, and full body length exhaust. Oh man, that would be a treat l... Thanks again.
Can you give us some more info on the car? I've got a 67 I'm trying to get ready for the track. I saw him hit 8000RPM a few times, wow!!! Please tell us about the car. Thank you
Thank YOU SIR FOR A RIDE @DAYTONA, I AM OLD ENOUGH TO REMEMBER THE DISTINCT SOUD OF HIGH REVVING small blocks, THIS HAS BEEN SAVED AND LABLED SOUND THERAPY
That would be the gnarliest engine for a street mustang god damn that thing sounds good and hauls ass! I always wondered if you’d get a bit more performance with a t56/t60 instead of the old top loader
3:17 a lot of people won’t appreciate how good and smooth of a recovery that was, but hell of a driver to not miss a beat and correct the mistake. For those who may wonder why it’s a big deal, a lot of driving and racing in general is all rhythm based. You get in a rhythm and stay there. If something happens that throws you off your rhythm it can be disastrous both short and long term for a driver. He misses the gear during downshift and goes to third instead of first, which in and of itself won’t hurt the car or make you crash necessarily (if you were under heavy braking and needed the engine braking from going to first to help slow the car then it could happen but here it wasn’t the case), and mechanically is most certainly less disastrous than the inverse (going to first when you meant to go to third under acceleration, often call the money shift). But a little slip like that could’ve thrown the driver off rhythm, made him hesitate in frustration before correcting it, or just been in his head at that next turn or the next time he came to that turn. Instead, he just corrected the mistake and kept driving. It takes a good driver to not let a simple mistake throw them off rhythm and immediately get back into it. Very understated quality, but one which sets apart the good from the great. Edit: Just read the description and saw who the driver was. Met Curt at a Trans Am event one time. Super nice guy and extremely knowledgeable racer. 5 minute conversation with him was a treasure trove of knowledge. Not surprised to see him so composed here.
Ive always ran Fords my favorite is the 289 and i tried to get as much as much as i could out of them. To hear a 289 wind up that high is amazing!! Any engine i built was all done by 4500-5000rpm and certainly would never hold together like this car.Just once i would like to build a 289 that will run like a Raped Ape above 6000rpm
I have seen these Mustangs out of Cobra Automotive many times over the years at LRP, WGI,VIR and Curt's shop produces some of the most competitive Vintage Mustangs in all of SVRA. A friend of mine once owned and maybe still does own a piece of #530. I do know that when he drove that car it did have a Jerico clutchles 4 speed trans. which was/is legal in SVRA vintage racing. Can't figure why the Mustang ahead of Curt kept braking except to cut down on Curts momentum. As far as not being able to pass, when cars with similar HP and at high speed passing is very difficult. Rember this is not NASCAR where you can bump the leader out of the way. If you like this video watch the one from Watkins Glen in 2012. I was at the race.
Saw #530 at Sebring. Owned 2 GT-350's and drove 1 at Bridgehampton before it closed. #530 is the most impressive one I have seen on the track. Strong car, consistently driven.
Noticed that pretty much when you got the car to top speed, it gave the camera's picture a wave kinda thing for the picture, what actually caused this, the force of the car's engine running at such a high RPM or was it something else?????? What a ride, both on the track and the car itself........
So, competing in a high performance race car, pushing that machine to its very limits for several hours, with your eyes darting everywhere, only one hand on the steering wheel most of the time while the other is continually shifting, your feet are dancing on the pedals and your hands are dry because the rest of you is sweating your nuts off, then hell yeah, I would say that you are an athlete, not just sitting there looking great in your fire suit and helmet.
That other mustang we were chasing seemed to do a,lot of blocking PLUS a lot of braking even on parts of the course where he really didnt need to put his foot on the brakes, dont know if a lot of that blocking he did in front of us was really legal or not, bhut I could sure tell our driver wanted to get by him and in a bad way......
Its really sad to see a great driver such as this, who is obviously driving a faster car then the person in front of him lose his nerve and make one or two detrimental mistakes that end up costing him positions. Don't get me wrong, in no way am i talkin shit, he seems to be a great driver, it's just unnerving to feel like if I was him I would be very upset about what happened
Enough! You keep fucking up the chicane on the outside; this is not a turn; it's a transition. When the fucker loses his fronts, be in a position to pounce. Dart in, make him freak and lock up, and then carry your speed and cut him to the inside. Awesome sound! What's the redline? Bee
Of all the videos I have watched I just dont understand the Porche guys protecting the inside line or being aggressive in the corners going into a long staright... SMH
Forget the noise so you can concentrate on driving . Near the end of the race it's plain to see he wasn't really driving, he was following, and the mustang was on the brakes when the Daytona got on his ass, like he was just messing with him. Put the Daytona in the grass twice, once the GT350 left him he couldn't remember which way was right. Shameful.
These two were racing there Asses off. #2 could quite real in the first stang. Awsum drivers in both cars. Are these top loaders in these cars. White buckle driving at its best. 👍🏼👍🏼
Great vid. Real Deal Racing. Are they doing about 180 on the straights. Is that a 4 spd shelby. Wow. Hauling Ass. The guy in front is driving his Ass off as well. Great job. 👍🏼👍🏼
HAD a 289 mustang 1965 drag car OUT of the hole 7500 rpm maid my shift @ 9500 rpms 10.24 what a great engine!!
Was it a super stocker
The Fords just sound so much better than the Chevrolets, all across the board. You guys do some great racing.
Such an addicting noise!

Nothing like ear porn to start your day
It has got to be a helpless feeling to be driving your ass off and see Curt right in your rear view, just waiting for you to make a mistake.
Wow that engine screams. Nice build.
Some things never get old………the scream of that mighty lil SBF. Damn cool!
MUCH RESPECT !!!!! I have watched this video several times today just too ENJOY That Screaming Small Block FORD !!!!!!
My god,that's impressive!! What a car & what a sound.I 'love' this!
Truly awesome. My palms were sweating just watching. The driver of this 350 had far greater skill in the turns than the lead 350. I was so looking forward to seeing the driver of this 350 pass the lead 350.
i never seen anyone go thru the gears like this dude can
Wonderful!!! Really enjoyable content, thank you so much!

Nothing like doing what you love to do. Build a bass ass race motor for your Shelby gt350 and go racing. Life is good. Curt Vogt, you rock dude. 👍👍👍👍👍
Better than a Cup race on Fox. Great drive!
I've been lucky enough to see some these gt350s run in person at vir. they sound so great in person!!! I can't wait to see them again hopefully at the end of September
Love that top end downshift. Excellence.
Great Driving, love seeing a guy tearing ass no clutching every gear
Thrilling to watch - thanks for posting this- great action
Holy Smokes - that engine is living in the 6-7K range! Simply awesome! Who built that motor ?
Cobra Automotive. You can buy a motor just like it. And……it is an 8250 rpm motor.
That is exactly the information I was looking for. Thanks, I want to drop one in a Superformamce Mk II FIA with a beefed up T10 , 180 headers, and full body length exhaust. Oh man, that would be a treat l... Thanks again.
this is bad ass!
Thhe view, the sound, so awesome!!!!!
Can you give us some more info on the car? I've got a 67 I'm trying to get ready for the track. I saw him hit 8000RPM a few times, wow!!! Please tell us about the car. Thank you
Jesus, how many flat spots does the lead 350 have on his right front tire? Holy shit
Hats off to the engine builder.
And the driver.

Okay im addicted to the sound of that 289 on the straights!! She aint huffin-n-puffin and out of breath at 4000rpm! I love it loud!
Yes, it has the *F.O.R.D.* sound…
the straight cut gear transmission is nice too! just slam it!
This transmission is taking a beating. What is it? Top loader? I wish my 289 ran like this.
Ive always ran Fords my favorite is the 289 and i tried to get as much as much as i could out of them.

What kind of transmission are you using? Your shifts are extremely quick and crisp. I can't quite see your feet - are you even using the clutch?
Those are Ford "top loader".
The immersion blender my aunt has, older than me: 1:19
I know be nice to the planet and everything, but somehow my Prius just don't get the blood flowing, maybe it needs headers or something!!

Man, that is one sweet sounding Ford small block race engine at 7,600 rpm! 🤠 🏆 🏁
Wonderful sound!
I want know what speeds your doing it looks fast and sounds awsome
Look them up they had a top speed of around 133mph
No flat plane crank here.
Motor sound so good
Magnifique ;-)
wow! what a sound!
I got SBF fever from this video ...

The "wave effect" occurs as the Cobra approaches the speed of light, and its body mass begins the molecular transformation into pure energy. Duh.
Not even the Concorde fly that fast....LOL

Thomas T that’s so true, it looks smooth from the stands but those guys are working
I wish that was my day job, holy shitcakes what a day at the office!
How does this car survive the front straight. He’s topped out +\- a few mph coming out of turn four.
Awesome I picked up a fastback Race Car Recently 💪👊🇺🇸🐎
man that Porsche on that start! like a boss 2 the outside
#530 listed online for $875,000 in 08.

I am a 22 year old enthusiast and how I wish I could afford one of your engines.
8:00 8000RPM So rad.
BaJesus. That was full tilt.

+James O' Beirne When he went off onto the grass, I cringed. Dude out front was really defending his position.
this is why his shelby parts are 75% higher than other sellers.
Sound of music.
fuck yea
8k 😬😬😬😬
How many times did he go off course?
Who knows.
Lousy drive in a competent car.
Smashcut to me afraid to take my 302 above 5600 for 20 seconds

what a race i would have a few nice words for that other ,.//'[[--;/..
How to properly drive a Shelby.👍
That Mustang must have a big block!
NOPE! Them is Ford "289"!
Big’uns won’t turn that high, as a rule.
I like this one. It sounds like it’s *hungry.*
This thing sounds like a nascar
Sounds like a damn NASCAR engine
My greatest wish is to race one of these.... I was born too late, too broken and too poor.
delicious 🤤🤤🤤🤤
i am addicted to that sound also but why is it the camaro always runs away with the race??
Does he ever pass anyone???
327 block 283 stoke and bye bye addictive sound....
Should have a Paxton tho.
