Hurricane Ian: Coast Guard releases video of incredible rescues

- Coast Guard crews have been rescuing people stranded in communities in Florida devastated by Hurricane Ian. An aircrew on an MH-65 Dolphin helicopter from Air Station Miami spent much of Thursday pulling residents and their pets from flooded neighborhoods on Sanibel Island. Petty Officer 2nd Class Tyler Kilbane captured remarkable video from a camera mounted on his helmet.
FOX 4 News is a FOX-owned station serving Dallas-Fort Worth and all of North Texas.
Tyler’s manner of communication brought me to tears; so oddly comforting during this rescue and disaster. If this is in his training, he performed impeccably. “What’s your name, my name’s Tyler.” “Do you have any dogs or pets with you?” “Just hang on, you’ll be alright.”
My thoughts exactly he made them all smile a little and made a scary time that much easier with the way he spoke to them. I pray they won't have to witness to much death and destruction cuz it sometimes changes them and he seems like an amazing young man. The whole team and all the rescuers are amazing for going in and saving all they can.
Yes, he's a very kind and compassionate soul.
👍🏼 Yes, and all aboard the MH-65 Dolphin helicopter will be just as reassuring, effective, professional, and confident! It's what they do, and I am grateful for that! 😎✌🏼
I was wondering why I was tearing up watching this. Dude was awesome!

“I’m a Marine brother, I’m ready” reminded me so much of my uncle. He passed away last December and was a Marine till the day he died at 82. Man I miss him.
Wish I would have known him. Saying prayers for Mike's uncle the proud Marine in Heaven.
My condolence on your uncle passing and I want to thank you and your uncle for your services Thank you. God Bless you all men and women that service your country salute to you all’s

The older man… “IM A MARINE BROTHER. IM READY” Coast Guard Tyler was amazing. Could not have handled that situation any better. ❤
i notice that he was ready when i saw the scuba suit
what a legend
“You’re gonna be ok, I promise.”
I don’t think people even realize the littlest things like that, mean the most to people in times like these.. It’s the way he comforted them & let them know they’d be ok. Gave clear instructions without being pushy, bossy, forceful or rushing them. Peoples body language & giving off good genuine vibes can literally help people get through some tough times a lot easier, & that’s what this man & his team did. What an amazing guy. He was made for this career. ❤
Nurse here were actually taught to not say everything will be okay because we can’t control the situation and it might not be but I do imagine that is different in a rescue scenario where chances are high just saying it does matter the context
@@brandib2821 In hospital setting is different from a rescue situation out in the street.
@@brandib2821 You’re dealing with injuries, this was solely non injury rescue. Definitely ok to say to calm people down in this situation id think.

I, soooooo agree!
As a retired Navy search and rescue crewman, the idea of people in shock, pets without kennels, and debris EVERYWHERE is the stuff of nightmares. The entire crew and their shipmates doing the same thing elsewhere around the island is truely pride in professionalism . So proud!
I rode out a cat 1 hurricane a long time ago. Cat 1. Not a cat 4 monster. I'll NEVER try to ride out any hurricane again. Take it from me, if a hurricane is coming...GET THE HELL OUT OF THERE DAYS IN ADVANCE.

What a releif, thank God for these heroes! 🛟
It used to be that the Coast Guard would not take animals. Then there was a huge hurricane and many people died because they would not leave their animals. After that they changed that rule.

We often take for granted how lucky we are to have service members like this looking out for us. These little acts of heroism are everything :)
“Little acts” is now changed to tremendous acts!
There were ordinary citizens out IN THE STORM rescuing people who were about to die. Not after the storm but IN IT. These government clowns show up the DAY AFTER and want credit. Lee county sheriff and FMPD were complete cowards. Many people died because they believed in your false fairy tail about these "service members". Trust me, they are DAY AFTER cowards.
Lee county turned off the 911 system because of too many calls and a bunch of coward employees. They said "it went down", yea right.
The displine and safety drilled into these SAR Crews is truly impressive, best of the best as they say
they get payed for it they dont do it for free once in a 100 years they finally earn there money lol
"We'll take care of you allright?" Words of comfort and love. Thank you Tyler for your dedication and service.🙏

@@thomashauer6804 That is a very good show. Too bad some people resort to sarcasm -the lowest form of humor - in this chat thread.
@Coom Lord That's not totally correct. You can lateral over to another branch but it's at the end of your enlistment and you have to be RELAD first, then you sign the papers at the requiters office, go to Bootcamp (indoc) but it's not the full-blown version and unless you are, say, Navy and you are going into the same rating you held, you will spend less time making the switch. I got a Navy RM2 (sub guy) who lost 1 paygrade, attended "A" school, and reported aboard my ship as a TC3. "A" school was sorta a waste for him but he did learn a few things and was happy he got to attend. He was a good guy, little hard for him to get used to being on such a small ship (210ft) and out for 10 weeks at a time but he got his sea legs after the 3rd patrol. He got seasick a lot. But I'll offer up my observation. I can bet by your demeaning post, you are not a rescue swimmer much less in the Coast Guard.
@Coom Lord i dont think they scripted the Coast guard for stormy life risking maneuvers so it shpuld be authentic information in terms of the Coast guard Missions. I never said im an expert in that. You seem overly emotional like a 13 year old girl
Tyler has an awesome personality! Earth Angel!
I'm from the Gulf Coast, hurricane country, and I really do not understand why people shelter in place when the warnings for Ian were as strong as they were. Staying to protect property just isn't worth risking your life or the lives of others who put themselves at risk to rescue you.
Tyler and the rest of the team did an awesome job with a great deal of compassion and kindness as well as expertise. It was wonderful to see so many rescues, including pets. Bless you all for a job well done.
💯 %
A lot of residents weren’t prepared. It wasn’t supposed to turn and hit our area until last minute. We all thought we would be on the outskirts of the storm and tampa would get the brunt of it. By the time the evacuation notice went out it was already very dangerous to be out on the roads. Also if you are working in the hospitals here like myself, you aren’t allowed to evacuate because you have to be ready to be on call for either team A (during storm team) or team B (relief for storm team) and if you don’t report, you lose your job. Also some people especially elders, don’t have the means or muscle to carry things like larger pets and some shelters won’t take pets if not fully up to date with shots, even if it’s only a few days overdue. These people didn’t intend to put their lives at risk, nor the lives of the rescuers. We survived Irma with minimal damage 5 years ago with a direct hit cat 5 and to be told it was a cat 3-4 hitting tampa-you would have probably thought it would be okay too.
Some people have too much attachments to things.
@@coreenflynn1202 I see what you're saying, and really I do understand where you are coming from. But, none of what you mentioned is worth losing your life quite frankly in one of the worst ways to go. Drowning inside your house with your family and pets because of a job or a house or because you don't want to go to a shelter is absolutely not worth it. As they say, there are fates much worse than death such as a painful and mentally excruciating hours long experience leading up to your death. Let's say a person rides it out and does survive, is the house any better off? No, but now they just went through a traumatic experience and will deal with those thoughts and feelings for the rest of their life. I would absolutely never stay anywhere below sea level or on a barrier island with anything over a Cat1. I am from the Charleston peninsula and we always evacuated inland, even with a Cat1 because it simply isn't worth it. A shelter, or motel, or friend's house is a million times better than trying to ride it out. We've figured out every situation that you mentioned. We had aggressive animals in a house together and took them out in shifts so they wouldn't fight each other. We left heavy belongings behind. We drove hours to evacuate. It simply isn't worth it. Also, I have been a nurse during hurricanes in Charleston on both Team A and Team B, they give you plenty of time to get back if you are Team B (24 hours) and if you absolutely couldn't logistically then it was understood by management and worked out. There is no excuse to go through something like this. I feel for them. It is sad and a terrible situation. I hope this storm is an important lesson for everyone else that unfortunately finds themselves in the path of a major storm.
@@coreenflynn1202 I get what you're saying but because of the uncertainty of hurricanes, I would still have chosen to get my mom, If that's their relationship, out of there for a day or 2 anyway.

I am so happy that people do not forget their pets :) Fantastic work Coast Guards! Thank you!!!
It's so amazing how the rescue people do little things to make people smile and feel comfortable. I'm sure it's all part of the training but it's was just so nice to see the elderly woman smile when he introduced himself and asked if that was her grandson.
Then they get to fly in a grocery cart. Pretty sweet.
WONDERFUL JOBBE BLESSED PUERTO RICO lopita
@Trapper’s Dad I doubt it.
That's exactly what I was going to say while handing her the ear plugs in the 1st rescue
Tyler's tone and words immediately put people at ease. He's great at helping people get through a scary moment quickly and effectively.
Tyler is an angel. How else to explain the feeling.
he's a pure professional and dedicated life saver.
Aviation Survival Technician Second Class Zach Loesch, a U.S. Coast Guard rescue swimmer, received a phone call from Biden (touted in a press release, of course), personally thanking him for his bravery during Hurricane Ian. The call was bittersweet for Loesch because this is the same president whose DoD is kicking him out of the Coast Guard for being unv@x.xed. His request for a religious exemption and subsequent appeal was denied. 😡

@Alex connor hello Alex, I am part fish
@Alex connor Bermuda triangle
This is the america I remember. Helping hands and consideration for others. Good job to the men and women who serve our beautiful state/country. You are the true heros
Yassss!! He said "I am a Marine Brother" I love how his survival skills kicked in, reminding himself that he is and will always be a Marine warrior . Basically letting the rescuer know that he is mentally and physically 💪 strong; ready to face any obstacle..love it! Take care and be safe from one Military Vetran to Another!
A big thank you to all first responders! You guys are our heroes!!! God bless you all.
Oh yeah? There's more and more videos exposing first responders. Start watching them. They're no heroes....
The Best! USA has the top CARING, KIND, SMART first responders and equipment of any country. Also, the helmet camera he used captured great videos and audio.🗽🇺🇸
@@blessall8856 🤣🤣🤣🤣😂😂😂😂
Bursting with pride and gratefulness....God Bless the USCG, all those serving, and all America

I cried in gratitude watching this brave Coast Guardsman calmly helping these shell-shocked people. He and all others like him who serve in any military, first responder or volunteer capacity are true heroes. So proud 👏 ❤

My heart!!! God bless that young man for keeping is grandma and dog safe! God bless Tyler for having a compassionate and calm demeanor in the way he reassured them! And God bless the pilot for doing a great job flying, and the crew on board collecting the survivors!! These stories are what we need!
Stories are not what you need. We need survival and Caring NOW.
Amen! I’m speechless❣️
@@katiemcdavid4124 why the correction! That’s apparent!!! Hearing these great things keep us going, even though! Watching the driving human spirit in each of us ❣️
@@katiemcdavid4124 In times of war it was stories of bravery that kept people going.
That the job they did in the warindustry did matter. When people are in distress, they need heroes and stories like this to have faith in humanity.
@@katiemcdavid4124 aren't these stories about caring?
Ex coast guard MK3 myself and I couldn't be more proud of my service. The AST guys are no joke and they are real heroes, if you ever see a a rescue swimmer or a chopper pilot please buy them a beer or their lunch at least.
Tyler is an earthly angel. God bless you man. Not all heros wear capes. This one has wings.
So thankful that Tyler was so kind as to ask if they had any pets. So many people stay in dangerous situations becasue they do not want to leave their pets behind. What a great testament to the awesome job the Coast Guard does.
... and, even more just dump the poor pets, leaving these terrified animals to fend for themselves.
Considering his dog was right next to him on a leash, I would assume YES.
@@MysteStorm happens way too often.
yeah i would stay for my pets if they cant be rescued i live alone and have little to no family so if my pets went i would be gone my self its simple respect to these brave heros for saving the animals as well
That was a lesson learned after Katrina.
This video is really incredible. Tyler and his team are true hero’s. I love how they also rescued their pets….I’d never leave without mine
I'd never leave without my cat. My Alex and I are still the end. I completely understand the sentiment.
God bless these amazing rescue people and their kind and brave hearts!
Angie how are you doing ?
I am so thankful for all the “Tylers” in this world.
