Some information that they missed is: They can send you back as many weeks as they want as discipline. But it also depends on what you’ve done. When you get set back you change to the company before you. Also, you do get breaks near the end of boot camp. The first time is in week 7 or 8 when you can go to the exchange and restaurant on base and also use your cellphone. The second time, you may go off base. However they do not allow you to go to the beach, because they can’t risk anyone getting injured. Once there was a girl who got badly hurt. I think she broke some bones? If you don’t have a nice thing to say about our generation, then don’t say it. Don’t call a copout blame a screen for his attitude issues, because that’s not an individual thing. That’s a parenting thing. Also, he just did something that I literally can’t do because I’m disabled on my left arm and only have 4 fingers. I can’t do a pull-up! You still have to be proud of him for actually clearing BT. That’s called being a good parent. C’mon.
@@thalfieHi ! I'm sad to hear of your disability, first and foremost. Yet, not everyone is to be included in this comment. You sir, have not lived with him for nearly 10 years and see all the potential he does have just fall by the way side. His mentality, and this is why I said what I said in regards to generation is, he expects everything to be handed to him without effort on his part. (Incorrect!) He has all the keys and just fails to realize all he needs to do is apply them to the locks in his life and the fullest potential of opening great things in his life are there. By the blindness of the screen, he'd rather play video games then apply the educational background he once seemed interested in. As far as a parenting thing, only one can do so much - whether be a biological parent or step parent. Once the person is over 18, or 21, you can only stand back and watch as the child forms into what any parent wants : a successful person in his / her life. Thank you for your thoughts and hope this clarify more as to what I said what I said. If you still don't understand, in time, perhaps you will. That is OK too, as we are to learn something new everyday. As a teacher from 8th grade said to us, "if you aren't learning something new everyday, you either aren't paying attention, or dead." Straightforward and more importantly, to the point. Take care and wish YOU....all the best!
The Coast Guard is so underrespected. Not only do they have to be a military organization, but they are also every form of first responders out there. They aren't just people who drive boats, they're policeman, they're paramedics, they're firefighters, they're servicemen. They do more than just sit in the water all day and night, and I respect that.
Technically the US Coast Guard isn't a component of the US Armed Forces. It was a part of the US Treasury Department until 1967. After that it was part of the US Dpartment of Transportation. Then in 2003 it was placed under the Department of Homeland Security.
@@Truly1Tom Very interesting. I wonder why it was part of the treasury department, because doesn't that just involve our country's economics? I guess that's kinda why the four main branches don't really see it as a "branch" in all the memes then.
@@JM-nl9ow It would make sense considering what their jobs entail. Especially if you are in their special operations. Edit: changed from special forces to operations because green berets.
I went thru in 1988, during the winter. I was lucky that it was snowing so we didn't have to do the obstacle course. Anyone considering USCG, make sure you cam swim or learn to swim prior to going in. This will relieve a ton of unnecessary stress. Also, get in shape (push ups, sit ups, run 2 miles frequently).
Proud to say I've passed this! It hurts, and the canteens aren't even the worst thing that they can do to you. Loved it there, though. The CC's are all great people.
@@Ferreira0504 there's a lot. Did you know that holding a matress over your head isn't just optional there, but mandatory? I do! Well done! The average civilian can't possibly understand the near-miraculous change a service member's thinking process changes into (thinking of others first, thinking of consequences for actions, thinking ahead, preparing in advance, being a team player,...). I'm an Army vet of 9 years, but ALL branches have the same molding process.
Well no, for the entire time you were enrolled, you were told what to do, where to go, when to go there and were controlled like children with extremely strict parents, so when you did something "bad" you got punished. You had no control over your life and you didn't need to practice self-control or self-discipline or anything, they took care of that for you, but then when you come home.......no one's there to discipline you and you no longer have the self-discipline you once had, you're like those children with extremely strict parents I mentioned earlier, running around, finally free!......and a mess And *none* of it is your fault, the system only cares to prepare you for whatever you're going to be facing during service, not to prepare you for what you're going to be facing once you go home, after you have served....after they broke you down..........
I see me myself as more of a Fedarl Law Guy instead of military but the Coast Guard would be the closest to that since they help out with Life Gaurds and them.
It's a game you play and it's only temporary. Once you graduate and get to your first station you make good, life-long friends (which are actually hard to come by).

Sierra 112 here (6/1982) - I think one of these companies was Sierra as well. This brought back a lot of memories. Same barracks, though the bunks were newer. It looks like it was the hooks not in on the bed that got you in trouble, with ss it was not having the combo on your lock set to zero. God forbid a locker was not locked - White Tornado (CC trashed the whole place). I'm not going to tell a "log cabin" story but here's a few things that have changed. First, nice sneakers. They use New Balances. Ours were canvas - think PF Flyers. One of my feet got so bloody they eventually allowed me to purchase a decent pair of running shoes at the Exchange. I also noticed them using M-16s for marching/attitude adjustments. We used M-1s which were heavier and longer. Overall, though, brought back many memories.

Lastly, thank you for your service at Benning.

Thanks SO much to all active & retired US Coast Guard members. You are amazing and much appreciated.
Hell yeah we are. The amount of CPR I'm required to know for our Small about station is insane.
@@xtnsn4395 You had to do more than the basic CPR class at a small boat station??
Technically the US Coast Guard isn't a component of the US Armed Forces. It was a part of the US Treasury Department until 1967. After that it was part of the US Dpartment of Transportation. Then in 2003 it was placed under the Department of Homeland Security.
@@Truly1Tom Very interesting. I wonder why it was part of the treasury department, because doesn't that just involve our country's economics? I guess that's kinda why the four main branches don't really see it as a "branch" in all the memes then.

@@Enderplays12 Exsume Sir I believe he is trying to say that the majority of the country isn't really discipline.

WalkinOSF Yep!
Well no, for the entire time you were enrolled, you were told what to do, where to go, when to go there and were controlled like children with extremely strict parents, so when you did something "bad" you got punished. You had no control over your life and you didn't need to practice self-control or self-discipline or anything, they took care of that for you, but then when you come home.......no one's there to discipline you and you no longer have the self-discipline you once had, you're like those children with extremely strict parents I mentioned earlier, running around, finally free!......and a mess
And *none* of it is your fault, the system only cares to prepare you for whatever you're going to be facing during service, not to prepare you for what you're going to be facing once you go home, after you have served....after they broke you down..........
I could never go into any branch of the military, much respect to every that is serving and that has served
I see me myself as more of a Fedarl Law Guy instead of military but the Coast Guard would be the closest to that since they help out with Life Gaurds and them.
