  • At the height of his fame - fronting the Libertines, going out with supermodel Kate Moss and being one of Britain's most famous drug addicts - Pete Doherty was emblematic of London's highlife.
    (Subscribe: bit.ly/C4_News...)
But now the singer has switched the capital for the shores of Margate.
And rather unexpectedly he and The Libertines are opening a hotel.
Before going on tour with his new band, he spoke to Minnie Stephenson.

As someone with experience heroin, and I think, possibly methadone has that effect, I really should have googled this but I heard years back that it tightens the skin, and when you get clean from it for a substantial time your skin will look more like it's age...probably a load of bs

I stopped paying attention to Pete Doherty about 10 years ago despite my love for the Libertines, and watching this interview makes me remember why -- it's really sad to see someone battle addiction to hard drugs. I'm happy he's alive and still has a creative mind intact, and I hope he lives much longer. I don't judge addicts; they're at war with their mind and body constantly.

Sadly, as with most chronic addicts their brains are left with 'holes' in them. They struggle with sounding comprehensive, they struggle with self-forgiveness. Their teeth are terrible, they age prematurely. I wish addicts, no matter how many friends and family have cut them off, start with self-forgiveness. Addiction is a terrible curse, but it's an illness. Own your behaviour, apologise, but commit to loving yourself no matter what. When you are kind to yourself you'll see how the world falls in line with you. It breaks my heart to see the monster of self-loathing and shame weigh down on a life. Go well Pete.

That was the most painful silence I think I've ever witnessed and that face he pulled as soon as she asked him about everyone he lost, it was a grimace to stop him breaking down.
To everyone saying he's smashed here I'd say no because if he was that question wouldn't have affected him, it's only when your clean you get those emotions back.
Not saying he's clean all the time, reminds me of a fumbling Ozzie Osbourne in his talk, I've known loads of long term addicts but not one who ended up like ozzy, they're all pretty together for the most part.

I think Pete is a very talented musician as well as nice a nice individual. He just happened to fall into the abyss that is addiction; drugs, alcohol, gambling - all three can be addicting in high frequency but there are ways to get clean.
A lot of addicts to gear resort to methadone treatment programme or buperenorphine although some addicts may chose a natural route (to avoid the second addiction) by using Kratom or Ibogaine. The latter is supposed to ‘reset’ the body / mind to a state where you are not addicted to opiates/opioids and I’m quite sure Ibogaine can treat crack/cocaine addiction (to stop cravings as not a physical addiction is hsd from cocaine). The Ibogaine is from a plant grown in Nigeria 🇳🇬 and is illegal since, I think 2016 due to a lot of side effects, namely a slowed heart beat and possible cardiac arrest chances. I’m aware that there are lots of other, possible side effects but I’ve not remembered much of the information about it so you’d be best off Googling the answer to questions about Ibogaine but if you or someone you know wants to try Ibogaine treatment then remember there are lots of hallucinations, both visual and auditory so will feel pretty strange and you will have a much altered perception: of people you talk to as well as what you see around you. I’m just over a year clean from crack plus off h and OxyContin also.

I was at Glastonbury a good few years back, and I was trying to get back to my tent, it was one of those wet years, anyway I had been trudging about for what seemed like a long time, and decided I needed a pit-stop, anyway ended up in some type of bar, got myself a little straightener..
I was in there a while when a couple of people sat next to me, I didn't really pay much attention to them at first, they looked like they were in the same mess as me, the girl said something to me, I'm not sure what, I turned to them, and I thought they were familiar, it took me a few seconds to realize it was Mr Pete docherty and Kate moss, we said a few pleasantries and that was that...

When you first see him, his outward appearance is pretty striking. But when you listen to him for a few moments, there’s something so so young and such a youthful energy to him. He has a genuine and pure heart that manifests out. I’m glad he’s doing well.
The world loves to demonize and ridicule addiction, until that person dies. Then it’s “so tragic, how heartbreaking... they were so young, so amazing so talented”. I hope moving forward we become more informed and compassionate. I’m so pleased to see him keep creating and working. Love you Pete.

Brilliant! Personally, I used to be a follower and admirer of the “Alcoholic Attire”. Thankfully I have moved on.

He looks like hes still struggling (he was wriggling and twisting in his chair the whole interview) and looks sad and lost. I've had my own struggles with way too many drugs over the last 25+ years total, 18+ years of them with heroin. No one can understand or even get close to understanding what it's like unless you are also an addict (be that drugs, alcohol, gambling etc) I'm normally a fairly rational person, but when it comes down to drugs I'll do the craziest, stupidest things going. Theres no control, and you just cant trust yourself. Its horrendous!!! I live in a small Essex town, and over the last 18 or so years I've seen so many people die (probably 15+ people, mainly young) but it makes no difference to you and your habits.
