      What makes Kerpymon worse is that the Dub of Frontier already called him Cherubimon and the same problem comes up with Kurisarimon which was called Chrysalimon in the Tamers dub and with Daemon and the Dub of 02. Valdur means "ruler", or "he who rules" in Old Norse and is a name in Estonian. The Digimon Reference Book has it as Vemmon in both English and Japanese.

    A very minor defense of Bond of Bravery: It might be a licensing/Merchandising issue. the trademark for merchandising was first placed on the wrong translation and they have to keep it because of that. Think about how in Dragon Ball Super, we and the characters call the form 'Super Saiyan Blue," but every merchandise and transformation/form in video games is called "Super Saiyan God Super Saiyan" or "SSGSS." They called it that in the first release, and have to keep calling it that for merchandising/Branding reasons. It's still dumb, but the translator/localizers hands might be tied by legality and the higherups because of that.

    Yu-Gi-Oh has an incredible problem with the names in localization for card effects, where often cards contain "not including XY). I believe it's not the only one.
    Why not just give cards an extra tag and then just target the tags. You can just tag every greymon and then you don't run into the named architype issue. Maybe that's just my software development background speaking, where checking against text is always a bad idea because of exactly this issue. Just give something a non text value, it reduces something like this easily.

    • @BlazeDragonEternal
      @BlazeDragonEternal Год назад

      The DCG does this to some extent with modern cards normally having specific types for that ("Xros Heart", "Dark Master", "Deva", etc.) but there's still a lot of things that forcefully have to target text which is problematic for this same issue.
      From what little I've seen of it, the Dragon Ball Super Card Game (itself a brother card game to the DCG) avoids this issue completely by doing exactly that, every card has a "Character" tag that specifies which character they are beyond the card's own name (so, to give an entirely random example, "SS Gogeta, Fusion Reborn" has the "Gogeta" Character tag). I feel the DCG could do the same, add a Digimon tag with the specific name and maybe an Archetype tag that has "Grey", "Garuru", etc.

    • @fernandobanda5734
      @fernandobanda5734 Год назад

      I guess this gives the leeway of caring about archetypes that you didn't plan caring about. Like, when they printed "Dark Magician Girl", they didn't know there was going to be a "Magician Girl" archetype, they would have just put the "Dark Magician" tag. Similarly, Digimon wouldn't have been able to care about names containing, say, "dramon" unless they'd decided that for the start.
      It's messy but for a franchise that's still evolving and whose naming conventions are not decided by the card game team, it's a fair solution.

    Tbh I think bandai should hire someone and give them all the digimon lore, names and images; to act as the lorekeeper for translations.
    Their job is to go through all the digimon (and new digimon) and re-translate them for consistancy.
    Their dub names can still be used overseas, but should be considered as Nicknames, allowing names like Omnimon to continue to exist until there is a new digimon in japanese called Omnimon; in which case since it's a nickname it can just be phased out. That way everyone would be happy.
    Would it take a while? Yep. You'd need a full team working on it too, but it's clear they need it. Especially with situations like Orcamon where there is actually an Orcamon but the dub decided to call Dolphmon as Orcamon, making this really akward and confusiing situation appear.
