One thing I really appreciate about Falcomon's redesign is that despite them sharing the same name, they didn't give them the same evo line, like they did with Kudamon. Meaning that OG Falcomon still has a place in the franchise as Valdurmon's Rookie, while Savers Falcomon gets Ravemon.
I wish they had named the Savers one something else, like something referencing an owl because it really doesn't look like a falcon. That and maybe canonize their Perfects as Yatagaramon AND Crowmon, as in, each one gets to keep one of the names.
Ok. My problem with Sistermon Ciel AS A REPLACMENT to Sistermon Noir is she kinda screwed up the counter-themeing with Blanc. With Noir and Blanc, they had a black/white, virus/vaccine, ranged/melee, Predator(Cat)/Prey(Rabbit) scheme going which was suppose to represent the almost literal "angel and devil" ideas for Huckmon's conscience, finding a balance of the opposing ideals. I do however like Ciel as a Neutral entity for the sisters, being a Grey, Data, Omnivore(Mouse) who works more in the background. The only issue is the sword, but it's anime, a sword can be a mid-ranged weapon by firing beams or whatever.

Sistemon Ciel and Citramon have such fascinating origin stories to me, in the sense that even sensorships can be adopted as completely new digimon by the community and even the creators.
If you have to do a redesign due to censorship, then you should take the opportunity to be imaginative with it. Citrusmon is a funny and eye-catching design.
I really don’t get why Sistermon Noir would be controversial in America. I’d imagine the gun loving United States would love a pistol shooting nun. I hope all three Sistermon can appear together more. Back in December the Japanese Twitter account posted an illustration of the sisters going Christmas shopping. Noir and Blanc excited looking at the cake display while Ciel is holding all of the presents looking like this: 😅
No one is offended by Sistermon Noir, Bandai is just full of cowards and just blaming everything on religious people, because religious people are easy to bully and won't fight back. Religious people are of course allowed to dislike Noir if they want, but Bandai should not be caving to anyone. So to me Bandai is 100% to blame here. They're the ones with the power. They can just say "thank you for your opinion, but we're not changing anything, don't like it don't buy it".
I think it's because she had a short skirt and voluptuous, and sexy nuns are a naughty trope? That's all I can think of since there's plenty of religious imagery in digimon that doesn't get censored. Or maybe it's like "3 strikes and you're out", she has sexy, guns, and religious reference so that's too much compared to like Angewoman who is only religious reference and sexy.
On a similar note to this, it might be fun to do a list of digimon whose localized named are better than the original: For me, I'd throw Armadillomon, Raidramon, Gatomon, and the Bearmon for Rookie Kumamon for Spirit change on there (Chakmon just hits the ear badly).
I believe personally that burninggreymon is also a better name change then it original as it connection to ancientgreymon and the similarities between the two designs

Part of the Rapidmon thing that hits for me is the eyes, with Green you can see the head underneath and see the entirety of the eyes, rather than Gold's black void with the eyes peeking out.
The Sistermon one was more of a replacement than a redesign, since all three Sistermon exist at the same time, rather than one taking the place of the other. Also, I think Citrusmon should be made official as well.
Yeah, I was about to comment this. They changed the design so much that giving it a new name would be a no brainer. Call it Strixmon or something like that and we're golden.
I like all three of the Sistermon, but as someone whose favorite animal is cats and favorite colors are black and pink, Ciel definitely sits below the other two for me. And the fact that only Japan gets to have all three is starting to cause some problems. For instance, Ciel was recently introduced to the Japanese version of the card game, meaning Japan has cards for Noir and Ciel, but they both get turned into Ciel cards outside Japan, with some of them having to include text saying that they are also considered Virus types, since the censoring changes their attribute, which can impact gameplay. It's just getting really messy for a franchise that thinks a nun with pistols will offend more people than the demon lords...
I legit love citramon too - and it feels like a great follow up to nanimon's sake being replaced with pop in adventure Imagine if nanimon who drink sake digivolve to bombernanimon - and nanimon who drink pop digivolve to citramon!
I think my favorite redesign is Sistermon Ciel because not only it's a redesign for the sake of ”censorship”, but they also make her as canon Digimon too, as another sister of Noir and Blanc
I really, really can't stress how much I want a dna digivolution between Sistermon Ciel and Sistermon Noir. It should be called "Mothermon" and have a gray nun design with a ff8 gunblade.
Since the "sister" seemingly comes from religious sisterhood as much as, yanno, being actual sisters, you could go even further beyond by calling them something like Marymon. Then Mothermon can be the censorship version lol
Totally agree with sistermon ciel. That's actually one of my favorite episodes of ghost game. It gave us a peek on Jellymon's social life and entrepreneur shenanigans, sistermon ciel in a go cart race to the death, a awesome dangerous atmosphere in general and blacktailmon uber with a rice cooker. Absolutely love it.
Kind of see a progression with Beelzemon, starting with the punk of the Seven Great Demon Lords, entering his redemption arc with Burst Mode, and finally a straight up hero at 2010.
I can see your logic with Beelzemon but personally I like the original's more involved design. It just feels kind of stripped back. Variants are a great tool for Bandai to respect traditional lines while also rectifying a lack of visual cohesion. I don't want to imagine a world where the default Wargreymon was a sickly grey. Instead we get two great designs in original and black.
Pretty sure they'd have still hit Machine/Mugendramon being the virus variant's next form. They kind of set it being on the other end in stone with Digimon 2020AD.
This might be blashphemous to say, but I prefer the 2010 version of Greymon and Metal Greymon than the original. There is just something about the blue that makes them look better in my opinion. Greymon having an axe tail is just cool and MetalGreymon looks like he is a member of the Crack Team, also I want an x-antibody of him probably rename him to GigaGreymon to differentiate from the other 2 MetalGreymon X.
I can definitely vibe with all of these choices, although I personally still prefer Sistermon Noir over Ciel (and that despite being someone who usually loves blue colorschemes especially with white, and swords), but the significance of Ciels story definitely should make her a top tier pick on a list like this. I also have to admit, personally, I always forget that Beelzebumon 2010 isn't a variation of Beelzebumon Blast Mode... or rather, in a way I feel like Blast Mode already replaced the original Beelzebumon in most aspects, or at least has basically become part of it, so I don't know if I'd really count Beelzebumon 2010 looking more like Blast Mode as an actual plus-point for it over the regular one. My personal favorit redesign probably has to be Greymon and MetalGreymon 2010 though.
Honestly they should release both Ciel and Noir. Yet the always offended liberal localizers probably wouldn't allow it. Yet knowing the localizers they'll probably create a 4th Sistermon.
Piedmon had some slight tweaks that I prefer over the original. Namely one of his eyes is missing a pupil. This updated version appeared in Ghost Game.
Fusion beelzemon is a great redesign. I appreciate the punk biker aesthetic of the original, but I love the holy knight thing going on with the other one
I totally get what you mean about Rapidmon. So much so that I'm still waiting for they to make a non gold version of Magnamon and have it be the true Ultimate for Exveemon. Btw, I had no idea that Ciel was being used as a replacement for Noir in the card game and I'm disappointed by that to no end. I thought they flipped that page after the backlash and that ghost game episode came out. This is just embarrassing at this point.
It took me quite a bit to learn that the OG Falcomon existed. But I still knew it before Survive came out xD I like the OG Falcomon more tho personally :3 It also gives me Hawkmon vibes xD

When it comes to number 8, I feel like that if you were to use them instead of the OG in tamers it would invalidate the blast mode because it is too close to it. It feels like an excellent halfway point between the two, but there isn’t a good way to fit them all together.
Honestly as someone who grew up watching both tamers and fusion, fusion Beelzemon is honestly my favorite redesign since he just feels like more of a character to me if that makes sense, i love tamers Beelzemon but it's just another darker design that just feels like a really large step away from impmon
I strongly disagree. Beelzemon fits Impmon perfectly. Fusion Beelzemon is bulky, and looks like he can barely move, probably why his only piece of merch looked so tacky. 😤
Nah, I totally am in the "Citrimon is awesome" camp. It's a silly censorship change that created a legitimately funny Digimon that totally fits with the series as a whole.
I'm surprised that your number one pic is the digimon from data squad that got censored though honestly I like it too. There's just something about a digimon that was originally A-bomb and then it turned into a giant tangerine monster for us that just works. Also I'm with you nuns with swords are just straight up hotter lol. Sistermon Ciel's redesign just works and while i have up on Digimon Ghost Game, I will concede that that episode with her was one of my favorites. Maybe it's due to my love of nuns with weapons or maybe it's due to the fact that Japan really likes hot nun girls but I don't know lol. Regardless, great list Karn!

Personally I like the original Falcomon more. It’s mostly because 2006 Falcomon always looked a bit owl like to me. I think both are great in their own ways though.
I think I agree about Falcomon if they have to be the same mon, but I'd rather they be two different mon. One, because they're both so cool, and two, because the newer Falcomon looks like an owl while the original looks more like an actual falcon.

These redesigns are so cool its nice to see them get attention i actually was watching your armor redesigning videos and noticed that Gomamon had literally no Armors besides Urashimamon of which theres still no image of so it be cool to see ot get like a love or friendship armor one of these you could have on based on the Nothosaurus which was both a land and sea creature that would be cool balance between Vikemon and Plesiomon which i think would super i don't seems weird that the rest of the adventure partners has a number of armors but ones like Gomamon and Biyomon and Palmaon really don't have that many

The original Falcomon and it's evolution Diatrymon are absolutely some of my favorite Digimon, and I vastly prefer them to 06 Falcomon and it's line: The Prehistoric bird look is so cool. I just wish that there was a good Perfect/Ultimate stage to link Diatrymon to Ornismon and Valdurmon. Yes, Yatagaramon exists, but even in the original Falcomon line it's not particularly prehistoric looking.

i'm a pretty casual digimon fan. i would say i am more a fan of your videos than a digimon fan haha. but i still play the tcg since the last few months. starting with the jesmon structure. but oh boy i was so hardly confused seeing every jesmon decklist have a different sistermon than i know. the first few weeks i literally sat there and started to google when the "nun version of sistermon is coming to the global tcg". it took a little bit realizing that sistermon noir IS sistermon ciel
The reason why metalgreymon and the kabuterrimon ultimate form change color was because dark colors were much more expensive to use back in the 80s and 90s
I really wish they made some of the original designs from Digimon World into their own variants, Weedmon being grey instead of green, Guardromon being both brass and silver, Sharmamon being brown instead of just a different shade of green, Meteormon being dark brown instead of white...they could even separate them by using the fact that some of them have different names on the localization, they could make a grey Zassoumon and a green Weedmon, a brown Insekimon (who could be Gotsumon's Mega) and a white Meteormon, etc.
One Digimon that ended up being the same Digimon with 2 levels that I actually like is Whamon. I like the idea that Whamon is such well adapted creature that the only way to improve on the Champion is to make it bigger and that is enough for it to stand on the same level as SkullGreymon. Whales are also already one of the closest things we have to actual mythological monsters, being the inspiration for a lot of them. If we get a Gesomon Ultimate that is also just a bigger version then that would just be the icing on the cake.

I recall being so confused and conflicted when Survive was first announced and they revealed Flacomon for the first time. I had no idea that Falcomon was that old of a character who existed before Data Squad was even conceptualized. Now I don't mind his old look, but the Data Squad design is the definitive Falcomon. I think he would definitely work best as a variant like how they've treated the Agumon design from Data Squad. Also, I completely forgot about Citramon until this video again and I agree that it needs to be properly introduced as its own Digimon because it was that good of a censorship compromise. But I would give a little tweak here and there so he doesn't completely look like an orange Bombernanimon with a leaf on its head.
I think Sistermon Noir would probably be more controversial in parts of Europe with a strong Catholic following, i.e. Italy, Ireland than America. Not to mention if they are distributing digimon products to places like the Philippines or parts of Africa with strong Catholic followings, it's much better to risk angering the nerds then it is to anger the fundies in Bandai's mind. Still odd though since the Angemon and Devimon lines exist not to mention digimon like Beelstarmon X.
Now that I think about it, Golden Rapidmon was from a 02 Movie, but somehow I still always thought Green was first and Terriermon just turned golden because of the golden digimental lol

Pretty sure they'd have still hit Machine/Mugendramon being the virus variant's next form. They kind of set it being on the other end in stone with Digimon 2020AD.
Ciel is also my favorite Sistermon alongside Blanc. I think it's because of her artwork in the TCG, manly her ST12 artwork.
This might be blashphemous to say, but I prefer the 2010 version of Greymon and Metal Greymon than the original. There is just something about the blue that makes them look better in my opinion. Greymon having an axe tail is just cool and MetalGreymon looks like he is a member of the Crack Team, also I want an x-antibody of him probably rename him to GigaGreymon to differentiate from the other 2 MetalGreymon X.

I can definitely vibe with all of these choices, although I personally still prefer Sistermon Noir over Ciel (and that despite being someone who usually loves blue colorschemes especially with white, and swords), but the significance of Ciels story definitely should make her a top tier pick on a list like this.
I also have to admit, personally, I always forget that Beelzebumon 2010 isn't a variation of Beelzebumon Blast Mode... or rather, in a way I feel like Blast Mode already replaced the original Beelzebumon in most aspects, or at least has basically become part of it, so I don't know if I'd really count Beelzebumon 2010 looking more like Blast Mode as an actual plus-point for it over the regular one.
My personal favorit redesign probably has to be Greymon and MetalGreymon 2010 though.
Honestly they should release both Ciel and Noir. Yet the always offended liberal localizers probably wouldn't allow it. Yet knowing the localizers they'll probably create a 4th Sistermon.
Piedmon had some slight tweaks that I prefer over the original. Namely one of his eyes is missing a pupil. This updated version appeared in Ghost Game.

I totally get what you mean about Rapidmon. So much so that I'm still waiting for they to make a non gold version of Magnamon and have it be the true Ultimate for Exveemon.
Btw, I had no idea that Ciel was being used as a replacement for Noir in the card game and I'm disappointed by that to no end. I thought they flipped that page after the backlash and that ghost game episode came out. This is just embarrassing at this point.
It took me quite a bit to learn that the OG Falcomon existed. But I still knew it before Survive came out xD I like the OG Falcomon more tho personally :3 It also gives me Hawkmon vibes xD

What's even funnier about Citramon is that Kirk Thornton voices him similar to how he voices Don Patch in Bobobo-bo bo-bobo, another character who's known for being round and orange, btw.

When it comes to number 8, I feel like that if you were to use them instead of the OG in tamers it would invalidate the blast mode because it is too close to it.
It feels like an excellent halfway point between the two, but there isn’t a good way to fit them all together.

Honestly as someone who grew up watching both tamers and fusion, fusion Beelzemon is honestly my favorite redesign since he just feels like more of a character to me if that makes sense, i love tamers Beelzemon but it's just another darker design that just feels like a really large step away from impmon

Nah, I totally am in the "Citrimon is awesome" camp. It's a silly censorship change that created a legitimately funny Digimon that totally fits with the series as a whole.
I'm surprised that your number one pic is the digimon from data squad that got censored though honestly I like it too. There's just something about a digimon that was originally A-bomb and then it turned into a giant tangerine monster for us that just works. Also I'm with you nuns with swords are just straight up hotter lol. Sistermon Ciel's redesign just works and while i have up on Digimon Ghost Game, I will concede that that episode with her was one of my favorites. Maybe it's due to my love of nuns with weapons or maybe it's due to the fact that Japan really likes hot nun girls but I don't know lol. Regardless, great list Karn!

Personally I like the original Falcomon more. It’s mostly because 2006 Falcomon always looked a bit owl like to me. I think both are great in their own ways though.

I think I agree about Falcomon if they have to be the same mon, but I'd rather they be two different mon. One, because they're both so cool, and two, because the newer Falcomon looks like an owl while the original looks more like an actual falcon.
I like to think of these redesigns as variants. It feels nicer to think about and old designs that you like don’t need to feel replaced

These redesigns are so cool its nice to see them get attention i actually was watching your armor redesigning videos and noticed that Gomamon had literally no Armors besides Urashimamon of which theres still no image of so it be cool to see ot get like a love or friendship armor one of these you could have on based on the Nothosaurus which was both a land and sea creature that would be cool balance between Vikemon and Plesiomon which i think would super i don't seems weird that the rest of the adventure partners has a number of armors but ones like Gomamon and Biyomon and Palmaon really don't have that many

The original Falcomon and it's evolution Diatrymon are absolutely some of my favorite Digimon, and I vastly prefer them to 06 Falcomon and it's line: The Prehistoric bird look is so cool. I just wish that there was a good Perfect/Ultimate stage to link Diatrymon to Ornismon and Valdurmon. Yes, Yatagaramon exists, but even in the original Falcomon line it's not particularly prehistoric looking.

i'm a pretty casual digimon fan. i would say i am more a fan of your videos than a digimon fan haha. but i still play the tcg since the last few months. starting with the jesmon structure. but oh boy i was so hardly confused seeing every jesmon decklist have a different sistermon than i know. the first few weeks i literally sat there and started to google when the "nun version of sistermon is coming to the global tcg". it took a little bit realizing that sistermon noir IS sistermon ciel

I really wish they made some of the original designs from Digimon World into their own variants, Weedmon being grey instead of green, Guardromon being both brass and silver, Sharmamon being brown instead of just a different shade of green, Meteormon being dark brown instead of white...they could even separate them by using the fact that some of them have different names on the localization, they could make a grey Zassoumon and a green Weedmon, a brown Insekimon (who could be Gotsumon's Mega) and a white Meteormon, etc.
It says a lot about me when I know about like non of these redesigns and believed some of these were made after the redesign honestly

One Digimon that ended up being the same Digimon with 2 levels that I actually like is Whamon. I like the idea that Whamon is such well adapted creature that the only way to improve on the Champion is to make it bigger and that is enough for it to stand on the same level as SkullGreymon. Whales are also already one of the closest things we have to actual mythological monsters, being the inspiration for a lot of them. If we get a Gesomon Ultimate that is also just a bigger version then that would just be the icing on the cake.

I recall being so confused and conflicted when Survive was first announced and they revealed Flacomon for the first time. I had no idea that Falcomon was that old of a character who existed before Data Squad was even conceptualized. Now I don't mind his old look, but the Data Squad design is the definitive Falcomon. I think he would definitely work best as a variant like how they've treated the Agumon design from Data Squad.
Also, I completely forgot about Citramon until this video again and I agree that it needs to be properly introduced as its own Digimon because it was that good of a censorship compromise. But I would give a little tweak here and there so he doesn't completely look like an orange Bombernanimon with a leaf on its head.

I think Sistermon Noir would probably be more controversial in parts of Europe with a strong Catholic following, i.e. Italy, Ireland than America. Not to mention if they are distributing digimon products to places like the Philippines or parts of Africa with strong Catholic followings, it's much better to risk angering the nerds then it is to anger the fundies in Bandai's mind. Still odd though since the Angemon and Devimon lines exist not to mention digimon like Beelstarmon X.

As someone who religiously watched the Digimon Movie as a kid, and hadn't watched Tamers until much later in life... Green Rapidmon IS Rapidmon.
I can totally agree with that, though I did watch the original series and the Digimon movie I always saw the gold rapidmon , not as being a pre-to the green one that we all know in love, but a golden digi egg exclusive, that would only happen if you use the golden did you egg

I feel like the censonship on Sistermon Noir is kind silly when you think that there is Devimon, SkullSatamon and a bunch of other devil looking digimons rocking that demonic designe really hard and they say that "nun with guns is passing the line"... But I really like sistermon ciel designe, maybe i am just salty that we can't have sistermon noir in the card game over the english version.
Aside from Beelzemon I very much agree with your choices. I liked XW Beelzemon but I prefer the original designs
