What are your thoughts on , Digimon 02 The beginning, since you create so many new evolution lines and how tailmon and patamon didn't fully evolve at all
You know I’m surprised we haven’t gotten a V-Pet mobile game yet. I feel like that would be a slam dunk. Just make regular updates adding new digieggs with branching trees. Hell you could just add in the Vital Bracelet trees so they could have new life in them. It would especially work I think if they made a widget for the IOS version. Idk if Android has anything similar but still.
I can see Bandai doing this if it was a companion mobile game app with an electronic device. Their vpet electronics still sell so they don't wanna lose that market. Raise your Digimon, then, similarly to the VB lab, transfer it to the mobile app to continue playing while your vpet is charging or something.

there's a fan project doing exactly that, it's called "Digimon net driver" now it's in beta testing for patreons but when the team will release it it will be completely free, it even has online battle somehow. There's a teaser with an early build on youtube
They killed the momentum the moment they decided to release multiple versions non stop while leaving the first vital bracelet practically useless, I bought the first two and when the BE and the new type of Dims got announced I decided to not buy anything related to the vital bracelet anymore.
Yeah there was also the really odd decision to release the DC heroes and villain on only the old vital bracelet with no app support for using it on the new BE
Same path here . I got soo disappointed that after Digivice V and lots of dim i've decided they just were stealing my money . Damn VBLab was beautiful with those raids . Bandai shoot in their feet once again .
God I would kill for a V-Pet Digimon Desktop Game. Like imagine your Digimon literally lives on your computer desktop and you raise it there. I'm not sure if that actually exists, but it seems like a great idea for the modern day where most people are online. Or something like this, but on your phone. I just want to raise Digimon damnit lol
I’m sad to see that the vb is falling off of not completely disappearing. I never had one, but seeing the new dims come out was nice to see what Digimon got love.
If it is actually abandoned it would be fun to see Moders play around more with this DiM Card and Vital Braclets. I am sure someone cleverer than me could even make a new bank app compatible with Vital Braclet.
Them axing the perfectly functioning old app for the clunky lagfest that is the current app was probably the biggest slap in the face in the VB's entire lifespan. Honestly a huge shame. Despite its flaws I did enjoy raising Digimon on the VB. Just about to wrap my collection up with Pulsemon's BE dim. Thanks a lot for cutting things short, Bandai.
It's crazy how smooth the app is now with them shutting the online functions; makes me wonder that the app actually was alright but the online stuff just messed with it
I just recently got the BE and man, I really hope they actually go on and continue releasing cards, it'll be a shame if they stop supporting the app :(
Ive kinda felt the same way. Cuz theres still a ton of digimon that still dont have DiMs and it feels like bandai just doesnt care enough about the vita brace to make new dims. Ah well, I did enjoy the vitabrace while it lasted
Yeah as someone who needs to lose weight before I can have a certain surgery, I was super interested in the VB! And then I learned ab the issues and went "Well im not gonna pay 60 quid plus for something that doesnt work well" no matter how interested in the pet side I was.
Rest in peace, the vital hero digivice. I'll miss you! More like the post-mortem of the vital bracelet? Anyway, It was one of my favorite digivices (well along with the Fusion or Xros Loader and the Og digivices) :( I would have Dorulumon on it (and others) I still have hope it gets some more update again with dim cards. I'll miss the vital hero.
My mind is blown how they fumbled such a great concept, like honestly it’s impressive how they have so many great ideas come from Digimon but flop due to them being half-baked It’s sad
I'm so disappointed in Bandai when it comes to the Vital Bracelet. It had so much potential. I remember the video where you listed out your hopes for a new one and the conversation we had. We had so many hopes. They could have released a more expensive version that was similar to a apple watch. They have the tech to do it. 😭😭😭😭 Maybe it will come back.
I’ve wanted to see a Monster Tamer TTRPG for a little while now. I know Dry is working on a fan one for Digimon, but I think it would be really cool if there was a Monster Tamer that started as a TTRPG. Something where you could Homebrew so you could reskin it to be different monster tamers or make your own custom monsters. I don’t know anything really about Warhammer specifically, but if we got monster tamer D&D, that would rule.
Yeah the poor thing has sat on my windowsill for many months now. What's worse is I just got a new fit bit band for about 50 and man....the tech is so comparable I'm surprised they don't swing to a more premium version with a better app for support
Hehe I grinded “crunches” by using the rowing machine at the gym. It worked well enough but it was a pain to press the button every 30 seconds between reps to start the activity again.
I find it strange that Bamco has yet to make a Digimon v-pet app, especially knowing they have a Tamagotchi mobile app. It wouldn't be that expensive to create as they could use My Tamagotchi Life as a basis & expand upon it as well as reuse the Digimon models & animations they've been using for the last decade.
They do this with almost everything Digimon related. I truly think Digimon is only kept alive by some insiders who still love it, and keep pushing new ideas that bamco will reluctantly fund. If bamco had their way they would just never touch it again imo. But they also want to keep it for their portfolio so as much as Digimon would thrive with anyone else, they won't sell it. The VB's demise is just another example of how little bamco respect Digimon as an IP.
it's really sad to hear about the downfall of the vital bracelet, i'm getting back into Digimon and that was on my shopping lsit..maybe not anymore :( come on Bandai, do better..
I picked up the vital hero for like 30 bucks and a couple cheap dim cards. Barley have used app I think they are still worth walking around with one of your favourite digimon imo
I have an og digimon vb. I bought some new dims from Amazon and I’m still actively using it. I use it almost everyday and attribute it to my weight loss (I used to be 190 pounds at 15). Currently 150 at 17 and actually trying to gain some weight for muscle. I remember importing the bracelet costing like 100 dollars then 6 months later it become readily available in Canada 😭. Loved the video!!!
I actually enjoy the VBBE, both the Digimon and the anime ones, but the flaws you mentioned are so true. The only exercise I truly do on the VBBE is walking (wished it could detect my movements when I'm cycling), the rest are just me doing arm movement. And I only ever used the BE app just for storage. Maybe I'm in denial because I don't want it to be truly dead and maybe it's on hiatus. I'm probably yapping, it's just that despite the flaws, I still do enjoy the VBBE and love having a Digimon or anime character accompany me on my way to college 😅
I’m running the last Pulsemon BE memory now. I have a Fenriloogamon to jogress. But after that, I think I’m done. I will probably keep Fenriloogamon and Alphamon (both their jogress weapon modes) on it and wear it for a bit, but I don’t plan on raising anything new in the near future. It’s strange that this started with Pulsemon and is seemingly ending with it too.
The idea of a vital bracelet hub that could connect to a fully waterproof device is SO good. I wish you were in charge of making the decisions at bandai lol. Ive been using my vital bracelet again after a while and im enjoying it at a slow pace. Im hoping the BE mod by cyanic adds the ability to have original VB cards do different cards' adventures cause then i can just make a whole bunch of custom dims and go to town.

Heck it would have been more expensive- but they could have also teamed up with any manufacturer for smartwatches to just make a VB smartwatch and release it as a P-bandai product or something
The VB always should've been an app for wearables imo. DiM cards as IAP, companion app similar to the original app, could even have it sync with the most popular fitness apps and Samsung health/apple health/etc. It really is such a no-brainer, which is why we'll never see it happen. RIP Vital Bracelet. Thank you for the 60 or 70 squats I would otherwise never have done.
RIP Never reached it's full potential, there definitely should have been a Yu-Gi-Oh, Bleach , Naruto, or yeah a Dragon ball crossover series that ALSO HAVE NOTABLE TRANSFORMATIONS rather than ones that don't (except Medabots that one was good) They should have leaned into that more to pull those fans into Digimon I'd like a series of modern day well made and priced Digimon figures like amiibo even if there's no designated game
You mentioned doing a Digimon version of Pokémon GO and I think that would work really well with your phone letting you interface with the digital world through augmented reality and I really think that if they had a wide library Digimon in such a game, especially at the fresh and in training level that things could be very interesting
I have been wondering why there isnt a barcode scanning mobile game, I would play the shit out of that. I never got to have a scannerz as a kid when it came out, but I always thought the premise was so cool, like the disc thing in monster rancher.
They could of released an app compatible with most smart watches where you still need to buy the VB, but you can have remote access to the VB. I already use a Galaxy watch, so the VB was sort of a minor inconvenience to wear.
Didn't even know anything about digimon's vital bracelet thing until i got back into the franchise 3 years ago. Not into tiny virtual pets. When they make a digivice that summons a real digimon into the world then get back to me.
Like you I was mostly hyped for the fitness aspect. Pokemon Go got me to go out walking regularly and I was excited to switch to something Digimon to do the same. Unfortunately it was just so poorly implemented. The way I thought it would work was if I had a good, active week then Id have my Digimon digivolve into something stronger. The implementation of the trophies for squats and situps was just not what I wanted at all. Something else I thought was a bad design choice was the digivolution timer was way too fast. I envisioned when it was announced something that would take months to fully unlock through my activity. Pausing the clock by transfer/sleep was such a tedious step to do every day. It might have been unrealistic since its a kids toy in the end and no child is waiting a week for their rookie partner to digivolve to champion, but I just wish that there was something like a "hardmode" implemented on these franchises products that know they have a wide range of fans ages.
I think Digivice V-Pets have ALWAYS been marketed as an excersize device. That isn't new with with the VB. Even the original V-Pet was marketed as a step tracker... of course we quickly figured out that you could just shake the thing. In fact it's not just Digimon all those 90's V-Pets were marketed as fitness devices. That's how we got parents to buy them and teachers even allowed them in school as long as they were muted in class cause it encourged kids to excersize... till we figured out the shaking thing.
I recently got back into it, I kind of hope they continue it in some way, because sure the VB is not the greatest for exercise, it still was a useful excuse in my head to motivate me to go outside. I know the likelihood is low but hay who knows, we might get more VB stuff in the future
Honestly it's so upsetting. I dont want to lose all of my Digimon on their shitty app they never improved. It's not a good fitness bracelet, but I've used it to help motivate/improve my exercises at times. I just cannot comprehend why Bandai hates money. It's like everything to do with Digimon they just mismanage or barely try when we are practically begging to give them money for this franchise. Plus they branched the BE out to other animw! I dont know if they sold that well, but it was an easy strategy to expand beyond Digimon and they still have decided to just go silent on VB support. And I like Liberator but the IRL Deck Box just being that, an overpriced Deck Box with a sticker is extremely lame. I still have a lot of DiMs and BEMs to get through/replay, so I am dreading any news of closures. I hope fans will once again pick up the company's slack and create a Lab so we dont lose all our mons 😭
My biggest Issue with the VB was the fact, that it wasn't Waterproof so I can't wear it at work and that the fights are just super random. My Champion- or Ultimate-Digimon would always lose agains Rookies or Digimon it should be strong agains. And yeah the way to "train" the Digimon just turned really annoying after a while
I loved the concept of the vital bracelet, and it has been fun, but it could definitely be better. Your idea for 3.0 would honestly be fantastic if it came true.
When I learned about it 2 years ago. I had to have one. And yes your points about its flaws existed and that was a disappointment. However my work had me constantly moving and working. I'd cover about 10 miles a shift. And we'll I didn't even have it a month and it's biggest flaw became apperant. It's watch band. I could not keep it latched it kept coming unlatched until I lost it off my wrist a month later.
The VB is what got me back into Digimon. I had been out since Frontier. Now my Color is my favorite. But the moment they took away the original app is when it died for me. The new one was so lifeless and reeked of trying to save the VB by using as many brands as the could. Past that point it was no longer a Digimon thing, it was a thing with Digimon. All the character was out of it. I haven't worn my BE for about two weeks now after having it on since it came out. I am sad they sabotaged themselves so much, because I honestly thought it was a game changer when it came out. But they did not market it well and really should have just left it at the second version. Everything past that was shooting themselves in the foot. But I am thankful it got me back into Digimon just in time for this kind of revival it is having.
But sad he doesnt even have all his Evos in the BE memory because it's Seeker's focused. RiP to most of the Pulsemon lines never getting updated sprites for the BE
I have been screaming, crying, BEGGING Bandai Namco for years. Please, give us some kinda Digimon Go type of game! Like, they have been woefully ignoring and disregarding apps for ages and I don't understand why. Give us a VPet app with Pokemon Go style battles, raids, and a built-in pedometer and it would sell gangbusters. I don't understand why they're ignoring this market when it works so well thematically for Digimon.
Its the app change that killed it for me. I couldn't get a match on the new app and the thing is that vital bracelet is a great idea and i hope that they tackle it again with more insight and understanding.
I purchased a Vital Bracelet BE a good week ago and for the most part was pretty happy, since I am a very active person and the concept of working out with a little digimon pal was very appealing to me. The 100 hour timer plus inspiration to do a lot more crunches and also try out things like adding weights to shadowboxing did wonders for me, but my god is it silly to register workouts in these short burts (especially sprints in 20 second incremenets) before doing them because ideally I want to do 5 minute bursts or so. The app wasn't all that bad after manually updating firmware since it did its job but have no idea what was there before, but hearing others suffering because they didn't buy BE first is not great. Overall it is a bummer Bamco is once again just completely messing up another IP that has great potential no matter how much I love many of their franchises
It sucks but I am genuinely not even surprised. I bought the Gammamon one after preordering it not even two months later the new one was announced and I couldn't justify buying ANOTHER one so soon after I just bought one for $75. They do this with Tamagotchi too, and considering the Smart was along the lines of the VB and its no longer relevant really now that the Uni is out, this doesn't surprise me at all. I feel like they're working on a Digimon equivalent to the Tama Uni now.
There are a lot of Discord community tournaments still being held for the vital bracelet. Bandai may have stopped support but the community is still strong!
Makes me sad seeing as I just got the BE as a gift for christmas. I'd love to be proven wrong but the writing feels like its on the wall. However, I would still like to get the cards I'd love to own for the digimon I like and raise them up just for fun as I do my daily routine. Its fun in the idea of them growing with you and I do my best to hit those reqs without using the nfc for battles or items to boost. There's so much potential in this lil thing that I wish they could believe in it a bit more but it is what it is now.
Sad thing is the idea is fun but I wish it was less focused on the idea of exercise. Not to say that wasn't something important but making it a wrist based V-Pet would have worked just as well and heck still have those dim cards. They are such a cool idea especially when putting them in the device making it feel like a card slash from Tamers. Having the exercise aspect really makes it the worst of both worlds. It's not a great V-Pet and it's not a great Fitbit replacement or competitor.
Honestly part of me wonders if Bandai were pushing/hoping for a partnership with Fitbit or one of the fitness band brands, but plans fell through and they just released their proof of concept to recoup some of the R&D costs.
As soon as the vital bracelet lab shut down, I immediately dropped using my vital bracelet. I bought the gammamon model of the original, and I got mad when the BE was shown only a few months after I obtained mine. I skipped buying the BE, kept using my normal one and then the apps changed. I moved my digimon over to the arena app and when I saw that there were no themes, no raid bosses or anything that kept me coming back to my vital bracelet, I just stopped caring. Everything that made the VB exciting for me, even if I was one of those phone tappers and arm shakers for the exercise because I cared more for the digimon aspect than the exercise aspect, was gone. It crushed my soul to see everything that made the old app so fun was just…outright missing, and it sucked. I appreciated the now unlimited Digimon I could have, but where were the features? Where’s the themes? The raids to get exclusive stuff? The items and goals you could set yourself? The little logo next to dim’s icon, showing you completed adventure mode and obtained every Digimon? I loved being able to experience and imagine my little buddy with me as I walked around places and stuff, but… the new app just killed it for me. I still have my VB and the numerous dims I got, but I doubt I’m ever going to use them again, sadly. I just don’t have the drive for it anymore. If I do use it again, it’ll likely be a small hyperfixation that’ll die in a few weeks or so.
Bandai definitely dropped the ball on VBs. I agree with a lot of the points you made about why it failed. On top of that, the device itself has button issues after prolonged use. I went through a number of VBs because one or both buttons got stuck. It's not like I was handling it roughly or anything like that. There are only two buttons so you're using them very frequently. If they do make a new model, I hope the quality is much better. Also, I find it a little funny you didn't bring up Vital Hero, which has way less promotion than the VB. I'm not sure what they were going for with the western release of that. But hey, at least Batman and Digimon are a lot closer now!
Digimon X series is still the best. I love you can put them away while busy with life and bring them back in when you got free time. I love the quest battles and Exp. I just got both the first gen VB and BE. I play the 1st gen more. Umm Yeah I agree they need to add more. I wanna feed and poop them. The App is SO MESSED UP. I can't read the text. I haven't lost any Digimon. I have Dragomon and Angewomon on the app. I have to guess what's what. The text font is messed up. I'm mad I just got the VB I wanted them for awhile. Now there dead. Which I hope is not the chase. I want to play with Pteromon and Funbeemon's whole new line. Plus I wouldn't mind a true like to Gatomon. I took me a min to track down Wormmon's Dim Card. Again I love you're content!!
I honestly think all resources need to be pulled into the Card Game. It's hard to think they can do a few things well when they are in such a competitive market no matter what they develop. They certainly need to start thinking long-term by implementing a multi-platform transference. Digimon has way more of an individual aspect to the characters so having a digimon reverting back to Rookie and then able to Digivolve back up to what they have unlocked is a big MUST. Plus it would be easy to set new requirements for each title or release while adding new possibilities. This is especially highlighted in the Digimon Liberator Web Novel, with Impmon and Fanbeemon able to unlock a new evolution line in the game they are in. A lot of fans have a specific Digimon they love most and it would be amazing to have the one thing Pokémon doesn't have. Real connections with just one monster instead of having the same species or various new species take over from a back-to-basics game format. If a monster enters a new game for the first time, it should be reverted to a level 1 format because then it will finally allow for true bonds between a player and their Digimon companion. Having a history is a big thing that developers neglect in monster franchises. The Digimon Card Game is the one thing in the spotlight right now so it's hard to imagine how a card could be used to enable this development but a video game like Liberator needs to happen.
Digimon has so many great concepts and possibilities with merch and functions, but Bandai is too good in frigging it up. 🙃 I love the way you would have done it, with the hub the the VB being an actual fitbit. Selecting the exercise was absolutely annoying and I would have loved to have a propper motivator to exercise, being a chub one myself. After getting the BE version, I used it for two weeks and then not anymore. It's collecting dust and it is very sad. I hope they revisit the bracelet at some point and do it properly.
*If I could send my Digimon from Cyber Sleuth to any Fitbit device to battle with friends on the go, that would be awesome. Digimon needs the compatibility that Pokemon games have*
7:48 not to mention that you know sometimes the Vital Bracelet Arena just didn't work. I transfer my Digimon to it and anytime I tired to log in via my Bandai Namco account to get my Digimon the game would just refuse to work and be stuck on the loading screen forever.

If I was to theorize, I feel like the main reason the VB is dead is because of the success of the Digimon Color releases. The Vital Bracelet feels like the hip new thing to get people into v-pets, but the v-pets were doing gangbusters outside of it, so the VB became superfluous when they could instead put that effort into more Color Releases (holding out hope we get to the rarer designs like an Accel Color)
Just got into this last year because I would have loved this as a kid so me and my son have enjoyed just getting all the evolutions and still have tons to go so we will get use out of it for some time..and it's an extra excuse to go walk around the park or get moving in general don't regret buying either the hero or VB
I still use my BE. My usual work schedule is a little too intense for some of the V-Petd and it's nice to have this casual Digimon raising experience that travels around with me. That said I agree that a lot of the features aren't that great. The step up from VB to BE made all the old VB stuff worthless, the VB Digimon had way lower stats than BE Digimon and were actually harder to raise on the BE because of some of the changes they made. So it's definitely a feel bad product in a lot of ways, but I love Digimon so much that I put up with it.
I really feel like people don't talk about the potential the fitness side of the VB had. The idea of physically working and then that power you put out going to your digimon is super cool. My biggest issue with it was actually that digimon digivoled too fast. I didn't feel like my exercise routine mattered because they'd digivolve to champion in like 1 day. If it's meant to fit into a routine it should have been more like a week. I know a lot of people don't want that cuz they just want to get the digimon they're aiming for ASAP but personally I'd like it more if it took a long time to earn certain digimon.
My problem was the fitness side was too lacking. Now owning a Fitbit that can automatically track exercise, is waterproof etc the VB really doesn't do well at all. Also having to do one specific type of exercise for evo points on the BE? So disappointing. I WISH we got a proper Digimon fitness device
i modified my BE only because i hated having to stop to select a workout every few seconds it threw off my rhythm. Syncing to the app was a nightmare i didn't like that either. Now it's just a glorified watch where i keep my Examon. The fitbit idea sounds neat
I totally agree with you. I'm still "using" my VB, but I'm only using it as a watch (because I have no other watch). (Ok, technically, I should have 2 normal watches somewhere, but I'm too lazy to look for them, so...)
I was big with vital bracelet for a long time still have dims to complete but now I shifted more towards the pendulum z and and digimon color bricks and use those more often

I lost dozens of digimon cause I didn't know the app was shutting down. I still use my bracelet but not as much as before losing all my work kinda killed my joy. Haven't even bought any of the BE's despite having digimon I really want.
Funny how you talked about Digimon Warhammer on the video where on a discord server I'm at rn, I'm playing a fanmade Digimon Frontier themed DnD homebrew campaign (Frontier themed because our Dungeon Master/DM is a big fan of that) and it works shocking well. I do think that Digimon could work really well as a TTRPG like Dungeon & Dragon/Pathfinder, but the question is always "can Bandai make it work and not screw it up somehow or not abandon it right away?"
Honestly I love my vital braclet even though I rarely ever use it anymore and am planning on making it a V-pet soon since I would have more use for it then.
This bracelet is still my main reason to exercise, its a shame it gets to the point that i have to do different exercises instead of the intended ones because i already maxed that stat.
I was always on the fence about getting a vital bracelet ever since it was announced but I will say, it's the first vpet device I've ever considered getting. I kept hearing about the problems with each one though and how they're not the best for workouts so that's always been a dealbreaker :(
It's always wild to me how these companies continue to kill their creations as time goes by. As far as it's death, the bracelet was dead to me the moment that deleted all the digimon I worked so hard for in the Lab.
I love my Vital Hero. Gives me a little friend to carry around, and it's the first time I've worn a watch consistently. The only reason I didn't go grab a BE was the premium releases of the BEMs and no translated releases. It was very Japan centric, and I really like my English DiMs.
I forgot about the Vital Bracelet. I guess that says how much of a failure it was. I wish it could've been something better, because it sounds cool in hindsight, but even my Fitbit Inspire 2 is cheaper and does WAY more! I would like to see Digimon in this kind of world, since it is something I am into, but they just aren't there yet.
I think I agree with you, and I actually just got me BE bracelet like 2 months ago lol. I did get a little hopeful when I saw the Vital Bracelet restocks on Premium Bandai, but that may just be moving the last of their inventory.

There is unoffical vpets for android called digital partner, but yeah it's a major dropped ball

They killed the momentum the moment they decided to release multiple versions non stop while leaving the first vital bracelet practically useless, I bought the first two and when the BE and the new type of Dims got announced I decided to not buy anything related to the vital bracelet anymore.

If it is actually abandoned it would be fun to see Moders play around more with this DiM Card and Vital Braclets. I am sure someone cleverer than me could even make a new bank app compatible with Vital Braclet.
Them axing the perfectly functioning old app for the clunky lagfest that is the current app was probably the biggest slap in the face in the VB's entire lifespan.
Honestly a huge shame. Despite its flaws I did enjoy raising Digimon on the VB. Just about to wrap my collection up with Pulsemon's BE dim. Thanks a lot for cutting things short, Bandai.
It's crazy how smooth the app is now with them shutting the online functions; makes me wonder that the app actually was alright but the online stuff just messed with it

We had so many hopes. They could have released a more expensive version that was similar to a apple watch. They have the tech to do it. 😭😭😭😭 Maybe it will come back.
I’ve wanted to see a Monster Tamer TTRPG for a little while now. I know Dry is working on a fan one for Digimon, but I think it would be really cool if there was a Monster Tamer that started as a TTRPG. Something where you could Homebrew so you could reskin it to be different monster tamers or make your own custom monsters. I don’t know anything really about Warhammer specifically, but if we got monster tamer D&D, that would rule.
You could look into Animon Story. It's a neat little "Digimon with the serial numbers filed off" game that I had a lot of fun with.
Yeah the poor thing has sat on my windowsill for many months now. What's worse is I just got a new fit bit band for about 50 and man....the tech is so comparable I'm surprised they don't swing to a more premium version with a better app for support

Hehe I grinded “crunches” by using the rowing machine at the gym. It worked well enough but it was a pain to press the button every 30 seconds between reps to start the activity again.
Install Custom FW. It has a feature allowing continuous stat grinding without having to push it until you want it to stop. Among other great features.
I find it strange that Bamco has yet to make a Digimon v-pet app, especially knowing they have a Tamagotchi mobile app. It wouldn't be that expensive to create as they could use My Tamagotchi Life as a basis & expand upon it as well as reuse the Digimon models & animations they've been using for the last decade.
They do this with almost everything Digimon related. I truly think Digimon is only kept alive by some insiders who still love it, and keep pushing new ideas that bamco will reluctantly fund. If bamco had their way they would just never touch it again imo. But they also want to keep it for their portfolio so as much as Digimon would thrive with anyone else, they won't sell it. The VB's demise is just another example of how little bamco respect Digimon as an IP.
If we're being completely real, I think a "Digimon Go" would be cool as hell. I'd play the shit out of a game like that!

I have an og digimon vb. I bought some new dims from Amazon and I’m still actively using it. I use it almost everyday and attribute it to my weight loss (I used to be 190 pounds at 15). Currently 150 at 17 and actually trying to gain some weight for muscle. I remember importing the bracelet costing like 100 dollars then 6 months later it become readily available in Canada 😭. Loved the video!!!
I actually enjoy the VBBE, both the Digimon and the anime ones, but the flaws you mentioned are so true. The only exercise I truly do on the VBBE is walking (wished it could detect my movements when I'm cycling), the rest are just me doing arm movement. And I only ever used the BE app just for storage. Maybe I'm in denial because I don't want it to be truly dead and maybe it's on hiatus. I'm probably yapping, it's just that despite the flaws, I still do enjoy the VBBE and love having a Digimon or anime character accompany me on my way to college 😅
I’m running the last Pulsemon BE memory now. I have a Fenriloogamon to jogress. But after that, I think I’m done. I will probably keep Fenriloogamon and Alphamon (both their jogress weapon modes) on it and wear it for a bit, but I don’t plan on raising anything new in the near future. It’s strange that this started with Pulsemon and is seemingly ending with it too.
I still have the old VB app on my phone, letting all of those friends live on forever in my memories and my phone memory.

Ive been using my vital bracelet again after a while and im enjoying it at a slow pace. Im hoping the BE mod by cyanic adds the ability to have original VB cards do different cards' adventures cause then i can just make a whole bunch of custom dims and go to town.

The VB always should've been an app for wearables imo. DiM cards as IAP, companion app similar to the original app, could even have it sync with the most popular fitness apps and Samsung health/apple health/etc.
It really is such a no-brainer, which is why we'll never see it happen.

I have been wondering why there isnt a barcode scanning mobile game, I would play the shit out of that. I never got to have a scannerz as a kid when it came out, but I always thought the premise was so cool, like the disc thing in monster rancher.
They could of released an app compatible with most smart watches where you still need to buy the VB, but you can have remote access to the VB. I already use a Galaxy watch, so the VB was sort of a minor inconvenience to wear.

Like you I was mostly hyped for the fitness aspect. Pokemon Go got me to go out walking regularly and I was excited to switch to something Digimon to do the same. Unfortunately it was just so poorly implemented. The way I thought it would work was if I had a good, active week then Id have my Digimon digivolve into something stronger. The implementation of the trophies for squats and situps was just not what I wanted at all.
Something else I thought was a bad design choice was the digivolution timer was way too fast. I envisioned when it was announced something that would take months to fully unlock through my activity. Pausing the clock by transfer/sleep was such a tedious step to do every day. It might have been unrealistic since its a kids toy in the end and no child is waiting a week for their rookie partner to digivolve to champion, but I just wish that there was something like a "hardmode" implemented on these franchises products that know they have a wide range of fans ages.
If they want, they can give Liberator digimon vital bracelet too. Adding new evo line.
They should ditch the vital and just make vpet watch with a lot of features
I think Digivice V-Pets have ALWAYS been marketed as an excersize device. That isn't new with with the VB. Even the original V-Pet was marketed as a step tracker... of course we quickly figured out that you could just shake the thing.
In fact it's not just Digimon all those 90's V-Pets were marketed as fitness devices. That's how we got parents to buy them and teachers even allowed them in school as long as they were muted in class cause it encourged kids to excersize... till we figured out the shaking thing.
I recently got back into it, I kind of hope they continue it in some way, because sure the VB is not the greatest for exercise, it still was a useful excuse in my head to motivate me to go outside. I know the likelihood is low but hay who knows, we might get more VB stuff in the future

Honestly it's so upsetting. I dont want to lose all of my Digimon on their shitty app they never improved. It's not a good fitness bracelet, but I've used it to help motivate/improve my exercises at times.
I just cannot comprehend why Bandai hates money. It's like everything to do with Digimon they just mismanage or barely try when we are practically begging to give them money for this franchise.
Plus they branched the BE out to other animw! I dont know if they sold that well, but it was an easy strategy to expand beyond Digimon and they still have decided to just go silent on VB support. And I like Liberator but the IRL Deck Box just being that, an overpriced Deck Box with a sticker is extremely lame.
I still have a lot of DiMs and BEMs to get through/replay, so I am dreading any news of closures. I hope fans will once again pick up the company's slack and create a Lab so we dont lose all our mons 😭
My biggest Issue with the VB was the fact, that it wasn't Waterproof so I can't wear it at work and that the fights are just super random. My Champion- or Ultimate-Digimon would always lose agains Rookies or Digimon it should be strong agains. And yeah the way to "train" the Digimon just turned really annoying after a while

When I learned about it 2 years ago. I had to have one. And yes your points about its flaws existed and that was a disappointment. However my work had me constantly moving and working. I'd cover about 10 miles a shift. And we'll I didn't even have it a month and it's biggest flaw became apperant. It's watch band. I could not keep it latched it kept coming unlatched until I lost it off my wrist a month later.
The VB is what got me back into Digimon. I had been out since Frontier. Now my Color is my favorite. But the moment they took away the original app is when it died for me. The new one was so lifeless and reeked of trying to save the VB by using as many brands as the could. Past that point it was no longer a Digimon thing, it was a thing with Digimon. All the character was out of it. I haven't worn my BE for about two weeks now after having it on since it came out. I am sad they sabotaged themselves so much, because I honestly thought it was a game changer when it came out. But they did not market it well and really should have just left it at the second version. Everything past that was shooting themselves in the foot. But I am thankful it got me back into Digimon just in time for this kind of revival it is having.

I have been screaming, crying, BEGGING Bandai Namco for years. Please, give us some kinda Digimon Go type of game! Like, they have been woefully ignoring and disregarding apps for ages and I don't understand why. Give us a VPet app with Pokemon Go style battles, raids, and a built-in pedometer and it would sell gangbusters. I don't understand why they're ignoring this market when it works so well thematically for Digimon.
Its the app change that killed it for me. I couldn't get a match on the new app and the thing is that vital bracelet is a great idea and i hope that they tackle it again with more insight and understanding.
I purchased a Vital Bracelet BE a good week ago and for the most part was pretty happy, since I am a very active person and the concept of working out with a little digimon pal was very appealing to me. The 100 hour timer plus inspiration to do a lot more crunches and also try out things like adding weights to shadowboxing did wonders for me, but my god is it silly to register workouts in these short burts (especially sprints in 20 second incremenets) before doing them because ideally I want to do 5 minute bursts or so. The app wasn't all that bad after manually updating firmware since it did its job but have no idea what was there before, but hearing others suffering because they didn't buy BE first is not great. Overall it is a bummer Bamco is once again just completely messing up another IP that has great potential no matter how much I love many of their franchises

It sucks but I am genuinely not even surprised. I bought the Gammamon one after preordering it not even two months later the new one was announced and I couldn't justify buying ANOTHER one so soon after I just bought one for $75. They do this with Tamagotchi too, and considering the Smart was along the lines of the VB and its no longer relevant really now that the Uni is out, this doesn't surprise me at all. I feel like they're working on a Digimon equivalent to the Tama Uni now.
There are a lot of Discord community tournaments still being held for the vital bracelet. Bandai may have stopped support but the community is still strong!
Makes me sad seeing as I just got the BE as a gift for christmas. I'd love to be proven wrong but the writing feels like its on the wall. However, I would still like to get the cards I'd love to own for the digimon I like and raise them up just for fun as I do my daily routine.
Its fun in the idea of them growing with you and I do my best to hit those reqs without using the nfc for battles or items to boost. There's so much potential in this lil thing that I wish they could believe in it a bit more but it is what it is now.

Sad thing is the idea is fun but I wish it was less focused on the idea of exercise. Not to say that wasn't something important but making it a wrist based V-Pet would have worked just as well and heck still have those dim cards. They are such a cool idea especially when putting them in the device making it feel like a card slash from Tamers. Having the exercise aspect really makes it the worst of both worlds. It's not a great V-Pet and it's not a great Fitbit replacement or competitor.

Honestly part of me wonders if Bandai were pushing/hoping for a partnership with Fitbit or one of the fitness band brands, but plans fell through and they just released their proof of concept to recoup some of the R&D costs.
As soon as the vital bracelet lab shut down, I immediately dropped using my vital bracelet. I bought the gammamon model of the original, and I got mad when the BE was shown only a few months after I obtained mine. I skipped buying the BE, kept using my normal one and then the apps changed.
I moved my digimon over to the arena app and when I saw that there were no themes, no raid bosses or anything that kept me coming back to my vital bracelet, I just stopped caring. Everything that made the VB exciting for me, even if I was one of those phone tappers and arm shakers for the exercise because I cared more for the digimon aspect than the exercise aspect, was gone. It crushed my soul to see everything that made the old app so fun was just…outright missing, and it sucked. I appreciated the now unlimited Digimon I could have, but where were the features? Where’s the themes? The raids to get exclusive stuff? The items and goals you could set yourself? The little logo next to dim’s icon, showing you completed adventure mode and obtained every Digimon?
I loved being able to experience and imagine my little buddy with me as I walked around places and stuff, but… the new app just killed it for me. I still have my VB and the numerous dims I got, but I doubt I’m ever going to use them again, sadly. I just don’t have the drive for it anymore. If I do use it again, it’ll likely be a small hyperfixation that’ll die in a few weeks or so.
Bandai definitely dropped the ball on VBs. I agree with a lot of the points you made about why it failed. On top of that, the device itself has button issues after prolonged use. I went through a number of VBs because one or both buttons got stuck. It's not like I was handling it roughly or anything like that. There are only two buttons so you're using them very frequently. If they do make a new model, I hope the quality is much better.
Also, I find it a little funny you didn't bring up Vital Hero, which has way less promotion than the VB. I'm not sure what they were going for with the western release of that. But hey, at least Batman and Digimon are a lot closer now!

Digimon X series is still the best. I love you can put them away while busy with life and bring them back in when you got free time. I love the quest battles and Exp. I just got both the first gen VB and BE. I play the 1st gen more. Umm Yeah I agree they need to add more. I wanna feed and poop them. The App is SO MESSED UP. I can't read the text. I haven't lost any Digimon. I have Dragomon and Angewomon on the app. I have to guess what's what. The text font is messed up. I'm mad I just got the VB I wanted them for awhile. Now there dead. Which I hope is not the chase. I want to play with Pteromon and Funbeemon's whole new line. Plus I wouldn't mind a true like to Gatomon. I took me a min to track down Wormmon's Dim Card. Again I love you're content!!

I honestly think all resources need to be pulled into the Card Game. It's hard to think they can do a few things well when they are in such a competitive market no matter what they develop. They certainly need to start thinking long-term by implementing a multi-platform transference. Digimon has way more of an individual aspect to the characters so having a digimon reverting back to Rookie and then able to Digivolve back up to what they have unlocked is a big MUST. Plus it would be easy to set new requirements for each title or release while adding new possibilities. This is especially highlighted in the Digimon Liberator Web Novel, with Impmon and Fanbeemon able to unlock a new evolution line in the game they are in.
A lot of fans have a specific Digimon they love most and it would be amazing to have the one thing Pokémon doesn't have. Real connections with just one monster instead of having the same species or various new species take over from a back-to-basics game format. If a monster enters a new game for the first time, it should be reverted to a level 1 format because then it will finally allow for true bonds between a player and their Digimon companion. Having a history is a big thing that developers neglect in monster franchises. The Digimon Card Game is the one thing in the spotlight right now so it's hard to imagine how a card could be used to enable this development but a video game like Liberator needs to happen.

I love the way you would have done it, with the hub the the VB being an actual fitbit. Selecting the exercise was absolutely annoying and I would have loved to have a propper motivator to exercise, being a chub one myself.
After getting the BE version, I used it for two weeks and then not anymore. It's collecting dust and it is very sad.
I hope they revisit the bracelet at some point and do it properly.

7:48 not to mention that you know sometimes the Vital Bracelet Arena just didn't work. I transfer my Digimon to it and anytime I tired to log in via my Bandai Namco account to get my Digimon the game would just refuse to work and be stuck on the loading screen forever.

If I was to theorize, I feel like the main reason the VB is dead is because of the success of the Digimon Color releases. The Vital Bracelet feels like the hip new thing to get people into v-pets, but the v-pets were doing gangbusters outside of it, so the VB became superfluous when they could instead put that effort into more Color Releases (holding out hope we get to the rarer designs like an Accel Color)

Just got into this last year because I would have loved this as a kid so me and my son have enjoyed just getting all the evolutions and still have tons to go so we will get use out of it for some time..and it's an extra excuse to go walk around the park or get moving in general don't regret buying either the hero or VB
I still use my BE. My usual work schedule is a little too intense for some of the V-Petd and it's nice to have this casual Digimon raising experience that travels around with me. That said I agree that a lot of the features aren't that great. The step up from VB to BE made all the old VB stuff worthless, the VB Digimon had way lower stats than BE Digimon and were actually harder to raise on the BE because of some of the changes they made. So it's definitely a feel bad product in a lot of ways, but I love Digimon so much that I put up with it.
I loved these things. Wore them at work for step goals but never got a great Digivolution haha. It was just such a good distraction. Shame.

I really feel like people don't talk about the potential the fitness side of the VB had.
The idea of physically working and then that power you put out going to your digimon is super cool.
My biggest issue with it was actually that digimon digivoled too fast. I didn't feel like my exercise routine mattered because they'd digivolve to champion in like 1 day. If it's meant to fit into a routine it should have been more like a week.
I know a lot of people don't want that cuz they just want to get the digimon they're aiming for ASAP but personally I'd like it more if it took a long time to earn certain digimon.
My problem was the fitness side was too lacking. Now owning a Fitbit that can automatically track exercise, is waterproof etc the VB really doesn't do well at all. Also having to do one specific type of exercise for evo points on the BE? So disappointing.

i modified my BE only because i hated having to stop to select a workout every few seconds it threw off my rhythm. Syncing to the app was a nightmare i didn't like that either. Now it's just a glorified watch where i keep my Examon. The fitbit idea sounds neat

I do think that Digimon could work really well as a TTRPG like Dungeon & Dragon/Pathfinder, but the question is always "can Bandai make it work and not screw it up somehow or not abandon it right away?"
I don't doubt it works! I just have no faith in them seeing it through to the end lol

Honestly I love my vital braclet even though I rarely ever use it anymore and am planning on making it a V-pet soon since I would have more use for it then.
This bracelet is still my main reason to exercise, its a shame it gets to the point that i have to do different exercises instead of the intended ones because i already maxed that stat.
I was always on the fence about getting a vital bracelet ever since it was announced but I will say, it's the first vpet device I've ever considered getting. I kept hearing about the problems with each one though and how they're not the best for workouts so that's always been a dealbreaker :(
It's always wild to me how these companies continue to kill their creations as time goes by. As far as it's death, the bracelet was dead to me the moment that deleted all the digimon I worked so hard for in the Lab.

I love my Vital Hero. Gives me a little friend to carry around, and it's the first time I've worn a watch consistently.
The only reason I didn't go grab a BE was the premium releases of the BEMs and no translated releases. It was very Japan centric, and I really like my English DiMs.
I forgot about the Vital Bracelet. I guess that says how much of a failure it was. I wish it could've been something better, because it sounds cool in hindsight, but even my Fitbit Inspire 2 is cheaper and does WAY more! I would like to see Digimon in this kind of world, since it is something I am into, but they just aren't there yet.
I think I agree with you, and I actually just got me BE bracelet like 2 months ago lol. I did get a little hopeful when I saw the Vital Bracelet restocks on Premium Bandai, but that may just be moving the last of their inventory.

I have a few of the vital hero I got for super cheap and I wear them at work and battle the soda machines when I pass by lol it's a good time
