INGREDIENTS
For the regular bread:
- 2 tbsp butter
- 1/2 cup honey
- 3/4 cup whole wheat flour
- 1 tbsp salt
- 1 cup old fashioned oatmeal
- 2 1/2 cups water, boiling
-2 3/4 tsp instant active dry yeast
- 4 1/2 - 5 cups flour
For the cinnamon raisin version:
- 3/4 cup raisins (regular or golden)
- 1 tbsp butter
-1 tbsp granulated sugar (or brown sugar)
- 1 tsp cinnamon
INSTRUCTIONS
Combine butter, honey, whole wheat flour, salt, and oatmeal in a stand mixer.
Add boiling water. Stir well and let sit until lukewarm.
Once the mixture is lukewarm, add 2 cups of flour and instant active dry yeast. Mix until incorporated and continue to add flour 1 cup at a time until the dough pulls away from the sides of the bowl.
Once the flour is added, the dough will be slightly tacky but hold its shape while it's kneaded. For the cinnamon raisin variety: Flatten the dough into a 10 × 12-inch rectangle and spread with raisins. Knead raisins into the dough to evenly distribute. Flatten the dough again to a 10 × 12-inch rectangle and brush with softened butter, sugar, and cinnamon. Roll up and cinch seams.
Grease a bowl and place dough inside to rise. It will take approximately an hour.
After the dough has risen, punch down and separate into two sections. Knead on a lightly floured surface into a smooth ball and press lightly into a greased 8 ½ x 4 ½-inch loaf pan. Repeat with the rest of the dough.
Set loaves in a warm place to rise until doubled in height, approximately 55-90 minutes.
Bake at 350°F for 40-55 minutes until tops are golden brown. To make sure the centers are fully baked, the temperature should register 190°F.
Rub butter over the top of the loaves and let cool. If freezing, let the bread cool completely so ice does not form around the loaf.

So late last night I watched this video and something in me couldn’t let it rest like a lot of your recipes.....this morning I was scrambled around my kitchen making this bread 🍞 before I had to go to work.
I got right up to letting it rise in the bread tins before I went to work. The BF popped it in the oven before he got ready for work and pulled it out before he walked out the door.
9hrs later I come home to a house smelling like a bakery and two beautiful loafs on the kitchen counter. I feel so for filled with my day.
Oh my god it’s very tasty and my bread has a bit of bite “ chew” to it. I like it but maybe that’s from over working the dough or maybe not proving it long enough?! But as said in the video trial and error.... can’t wait to try a second batch. Woooohooo👍
Watched an older video of this.. you are a lot better presenting now than in 2014.. it’s more you!
I can’t wait to make this bread this weekend!
I can’t wait to try it!
Can’t wait to try this!
My friend, Connie, sent me to your channel, and I love it….
Great video… I love making homemade bread… I have a large Kitchen Aide mixer, but even if I use it, I have to knead that bread… I have to feel the dough, to know it’s “ right”. If I’m doing one loaf, my mixer…named Gracie…stays in her corner, and I do it all in one of my beautiful bowls. It’s so special to feel the shaggy mess become dough.
You always make everything so easy
I love this recipe! It really is hard to mess this bread up and it always comes out delicious!
I love this bread! I have made it a few times now after seeing one of your old videos, the cinnamon raisin version too. So good!
Looks tasty!!
😍Oh my, I can just smell it now on this freezing night in Michigan. Thank you so much for sharing 🍞
Bread...my favorite! Looks so good! And I really like your bread pans! 🍞❤
Thank you so much for posting this video. I made this last night and we had it warm from the oven with homemade potato soup made with pieces of spicy turkey sausage links. It was yummy. 🤗
Just wanted to let you know I first saw this on my Instagram stories. Watched it, loved it. then I saw it on Facebook, watched it again, because a) I love you, and b) I wanted to watch it again so it burns into my memory. Foolish of me to have forgotten about your RUclips channel. It is now among my saved videos, hanging out with many others in my folder "Recipes". Can't wait to make it. Thank you!
I tried this recipe the other week as you have an older video with the recipe and it is AMAZING 🤩
I’ve made it several times now, also the cinnamon and raisin version. My kids love it, it is honestly the best bread recipe and is foolproof. I bake all the time but am not confident with bread but I’m so happy to have tried this recipe, my loaves look beautiful everytime and taste delicious! I never comment on videos but I had to!
Thank you for sharing your grandma’s recipe and making it so easy to follow
I love your recipes, I've made your Brittle and Toffee also your Brownies. I've got to make this bread. I think your an amazing cook, baker, candy maker , decorator oh my goodness you do it all.
Thank you for sharing your wonderful recipes.
Just watched the honey oat dinner roll recipe.. looks so easy.. I've not been good at making bread... (muffins etc yeah) so am looking forward to this ...
I'm going to try this recipe today! I love making bread!
I made this successfully today. It turned out great! My roommate's boyfriend said it was his new reason for existing. :)
Just realized there must be someone filming because the video is so good! Bread looks great!
I was ready craving fresh homemade bread with butter on it, because I watched another video of fresh bread being made, so now I'm really hungry for fresh baked bread and butter.
Love this..always intimidated by bread. Bought a bread machine and really still didn't make much. This looks easier to do and will try it definitely!! My husband will be happy about it for sure!!
Thank you so much for this video. I'm a Midwesterner and have been looking for a no-frills recipe like this. My Grandma made a similar one (very similar), but never wrote down any of her recipes.
I love homemade bread🍞. Thx for sharing your recipe. I'll have to give it a try.
Where is the recipe for this?
@@christinasmucker1740 it's in the description
I agree.. Evrn if I begin with a mixer…I always do a lot of the kneading by hand… I have to feel thst fough💕. If I’m doing just one loaf…I do it all by hand.. It;s so satisfying.
Creating a goid fought is more of an art, thsn a science…as most baking us. You just have to “know” when it’s a goid dough..
Great recipe! Thank you. Yep, a meatloaf sandwich is the best. 😊
Beautiful Kaleb. 😮
That’s a heck of a bread knife, and how do you like your copper pots? They look beautiful.
My dough usually is very sticky, don't know why, I follow the recipe exactly! I love this bread otherwise. Thank you!
You can sub mill for all..or part , of the water, for extra softness.
I'm making this too....
How would you go about making it into cinnamon raisin bread? I assume similar to making cinnamon rolls.
Looks awesome! Do you have a recipe for a brown sweet molasses bread?
@Holly Fort... that sounds AMAZING! Hope he gives that one a go. Great suggestion. Happy mid-week. Have an awesome rest of the week, great weekend and week ahead.
Can I use quick cooking oats?
The best part of being a child was waking up to my mom’s baked goods!
Can you substitute some or all of the water with milk?
Could I replace the wheat flour with gluten free?
Do you have a recipe for a good pretzel 🥨?
I need to price out how much it costs to make homemade bread versus buying it in the store. It could be worth spending a weekend making several loaves and freezing them.
@Indra Brewer, it's going to be sooo much better homemade, taste and cost. Can be time-consuming (quantity) but definitely worth it. Plus you'll know exactly what's in it and not get the additives needed for extended shelf life that commercial baked breads need. Give it a try, you'll enjoy fresh baked bread (rolls, buns, etc. lol) and might decide to give up, or cut down on store bought. Have an Awesome rest of the week and an Amazing weekend, then week ahead.
this was posted 2 days ago? most baking/cooking videos I've seen are 6 or 7 years old!
Just watched this video because I wanted to make honey oatmeal bread for the first time. Why are the sides of your bread so pale? They kind of look not quite done. Could you have baked the loaves for longer to get the sides brown as well?
What is wrong with people????? Why is this channel under 100k?????
its more flour then oats
