  • Have you ever heard someone throw around the terms binding and loosing? Usually they will say something like, "I bind you in the name of Jesus!" But, what does it really mean to "bind" and "loose" something according to the scriptures? This video answers this question in detail by taking a close look at the actual context of these passages to ensure that we are using these words correctly.

Amen the battle belongs to Jesus Christ. We have His inherited Power and Authority to rebuke in (Jesus’s name) and believe in His promises which is the (POWER of FAITH). We lean on the Holy Spirit for understanding in context of scripture and by exercising faith for His will to give Him glory.

Brother Allen I had a few experiences with speaking to demon possessed people and I just wanna tell you from experience one time a roommate was rolling on the floor like a snake having a seizure, n when I touched him him stood up, something said to me cast him out, so I said with authority “come outta him in Jesus name” I’m telling you he screamed and ran outta the back door barefoot in 14 degrees weather. He moved out a few days later. Now two other incidents my friends car wouldn’t start near the Holland tunnel n we were stuck n didn’t know what to do, so I said just agree with me, and I spoke in Jesus name and the car started right away, this happened more than once. I guess the moral to the story is “ let it be unto you as your faith is” bcuz without faith you can do nothing bcuz without faith it’s impossible to please God. #IlivedThis🙏🏾

One night I was praying and my atmosphere changed it was about 3am and a demon entered my room and stood in the corner and told me to shut up, in return I commanded him to shut up and leave and on his way out I commanded him to loose my finances. At the time I didn't know why I said this, it just came up out of my Spirit, the spirit left and later on that day I got a call from my Job, they explained that somehow my check was shortened and they wanted me to come and pick up the remaining money that I was owed. I don't have to life a defeated like and take whatever Satan throws at me, we authority over him through the blood of Jesus Christ, for it is written " Behold, I give you the authority to trample on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy, and nothing shall by any means hurt you.

What's important to keep in mind, "binding and loosening" appears in scripture in other places as well. Particularly in spiritual warfare cases. Mark 3:27 "No man can enter into a Strongs man's house, and spoil his goods, except he will first BIND the strong man; and then spoil his goods. Jesus is clearly "in this case" speaking of binding the enemy "the strongman" in order to render deliverance. In Luke 13:12" And when Jesus saw her, he called her to him, and said unto her, woman thou art "LOOSED" from thine infirmity. Jesus goes on to say this lady was bound by satan, but he loosed her by the power of His word. It's also important to understand that according to scripture; Luke 9:1, Luke 10:19, Mark 3:15 God has given the believer the authority over the enemy. Our physical flesh doesn't have power over darkness, but the Spirit of God in us does. However, if you are a born again believer in Jesus Christ, you have been given power and authority over the enemy, to cast him out, bind him and loose. It's important to understand God has equipped the believer with power of the Holy Ghost and His Word to bring the kingdom of God. It's every believers job to TAKE authority over the enemy.

Surely there’s more, because “whatever” covers a lot of territory. Obviously it’s not us! It’s Christ IN us, and yes, He has the power to do exceedingly and abundantly above all we dare ask or think! If it’s His will, He WILL do it.

We all have things we’re believing will change. We prayed, we believed, but we don’t see anything improving. But what you can’t see is that the moment you prayed, in the unseen realm, the source of what was coming against you was cut off: the source of that fear, the source of the addiction, the source of the sickness. There will always be a time where it looks like God didn’t do what He promised. Don’t get discouraged because you don’t see anything happening. It’s just a matter of time. What God promised you is on the way.

definitely a great discussion that can come about with this video. although, i do have one thing to say: at 8:55, you ask the question, “how can we think that we could have the authority to bind up the devil?”, while i do agree that God most certainly is the only being that can “bind up” or take control of the enemy, it is still clearly shown in Luke 10:19 that Jesus has given us authority to *tread on “all the power of the enemy…”* which is most certainly expressed in the Christian life through ministry and prayer. We believers definitely have the authority to pray against the will of the enemy in various situations in our lives. Although we must remember to be sure that what we’re praying against is truly the enemy’s will, not just some fleshly idea we’ve found to be inconveniencing us in our lives. For example, we *should* 100% be praying against the enemy’s will to harm marriages and for the Lord’s will to come through, because we clearly know through Scripture that divorce is not the will of God, and Satan’s entire character is built around stealing, killing, and destroying people’s lives and attempting to turn everything in their life away from the will of God.
Binding and loosing is exegetically not the best language to apply in prayer, but we most certainly still have authority over the power of the enemy in prayer and in our lives as a whole.

I totally agree. And for to him to say that if an angel didn’t think he had the authority then why should we, because God gave it to US. The scriptures says what it says and means how it is. He gave us the authority to bind demonic powers and loose heavenly ones in His name. None of it is done on our own power or authority but it’s through the power of God and the authority He gave us in Jesus name. The enemy wants us to think we are powerless so we won’t resist him. My Bible says resist the devil and he will flee. When the deciples cast out demons they went back to Jesus and said “Even the demons are subject to us” Jesus didn’t say “no they aren’t”. He gave us the authority to cast out devils and bind powers that are in opposition to the kingdom of God. Now I do agree we can’t bind the devil himself, but we can bind his demons and we can push him back in by the power of Jesus Christ!

Hi Allen. I grew up in the Pentecostal church, so the terminology of binding and loosing is used frequently. It was not until about a year ago that i began to understand the true interpretation of that passage of scripture and the context in which it was being used. However, I do believe that scripture does support that we as believers have been given some authority over the enemy in our lives. Not in the sense of being able to "bind" him, but more in the sense of breaking the powers of sin and darkness over our lives through the blood of Jesus Christ and power of the The Holy Spirit working in our lives. I base this on: Luke 10:19, Mark 16:17-18, James 4:7, Revelation 12:11 and Philippians 4:13. I don't claim to be an authority on scripture, this is just the way that I interpret it.

Hi oldmanriver. Allow me to share some of my thoughts on this, and hope it helps. I believe from Scriptures that we do have power as believers. What confuses us believers is what that power is and what it does. A lot of believers mistakenly believe that that power is to do miracles and signs and wonders. But if you study the Bible carefully, you’ll see that the power is not so much these things, but power over sin IN CHRIST and through the Holy Spirit’s indwelling. It’s living a life that honors God and a “supernatural” life where we “walk in the Spirit and not gratifying the desires of the flesh” that truly demonstrates God’s power. I hope this helps in some way.
And yes, as believers with the Holy Spirit in us, we do have “power” and “authority” to cast out demons from someone (unbeliever) that may be “possessed”. But that power is also not absolute in the sense that it is still the Lord working through us. It’s not like a magic wand that we just take out and boom, done! Even in casting out demons, the Lord is still sovereign over the situation.

I don't know what 'bind and loose' prayer even is, never did or heard that kind of prayer but
"We bind and destroy the work of darkness in the name of Jesus"
No prayer or way of praying is the 'right one'. Legalism and rules don't apply to real believers who know, by the Holy Spirit , how and what to pray, cuz words given by the Spirit of God aren't rigid or repeated.
I don't see any wrong in this prayer of bind and cast out, I mean believers are literally given power to trample over the kingdom of darkness not to cowardly think in corner whether God will hear or not. Though that authority doesn't apply to literally everything
(Example saying some vain nonsense like 'I bind and destroy poverty and become millionaire in name of Jesus)
A Holy Spirit filled believer will be led how to pray. Faith is the key, it's weird to see why ppl think 'too much faith' is trying to tell God what to do 😅um God Himself gave authority to saints through the Holy Spirit. Man how bold and tough were the first generation Christians in their faith, that's why even the demons used to tremble by their word and even presence. Believers aren't supposed to have defeated and weak soul, we need to realize how powerful our God given authority is to glorify His name

When you are properly dressed with the full armor of God prepared for war, walking with God, the enemy is no match to you. Your authority is in Christ Jesus. I can testify that I have seen this and done this. Mr. Parr attempts to diminish the authority of the Holy Spirit filled believer in this video, but once you take that step of faith and command a sickness to leave or a devil to leave and suddenly the person being prayed for is healed and delivered, there is no going back. No RUclips video can ever change this experiential knowledge in our walk with God. It’s the name of Jesus that has such tremendous power, when wielded by a spirit filled Christian who uses the Word of God (sword of the spirit) to pierce even to the division of soul and spirit, and of joints and marrow! Heb 4:12. First God must permit and impart this power and we must be obedient to His timing of how and when to use it, so that we are praying out of the Spirit and not the flesh. We are warriors on a battlefield and Jesus Christ is our General.

Especially about it already being ordained in heaven and we as Christians loose and bind it here on earth. I agree. God gives Christians authority over the enemy with the grace and the Spirit of God as well as with His power that is within us. Loose what's ordained by God and bind up what's not. But do it according to His Word only. Not vain things but the promises of God. And believe!! If it's depression and u know God promise joy of the Lord, u loose it in prayer for yrself in Jesus name and believe. It's His promise. He is faithful. Bind the spirit of depression. Speak God's Word over it. Trust me, its works but u have to believe. I also stick with KJV or NKJV translations. Those other translations twist the truth. Changes the whole meaning.

I've learned over the years to consider development of translations. It's a known fact the KJV and the NKJV use manuscripts younger than the ones used to translate the ones mentioned above.
Last point, translation usage is no reason to still not do a proper study of the text which includes it's correct structure, cultural and historical context, and the context of the scripture and the Bible as a whole.

@@simeonyves5940 I totally understand your point and I can certainly agree to a degree. I would also just add that with the discovery of the Dead Sea scrolls, the development of textual criticism and also we always have to keep in mind that the words we are reading were written by Hebrew men using Greek language so we're going to read words by Hebrew men we have to understand what the Hebrew thought is behind these words and phrases and if we take that type of approach along with the textual criticism and doing a proper exeges of text then we should be able to arrive at a common understanding of what the true meaning and purpose behind the writing really is. I think what we have done more often than not over time is allow our understanding of the text to determine the true meaning of the text and once we are confronted with realities such as those brought up in his video pertaining to discovering the true meaning behind them we are not always willing to accept the challenge to say you know what I may have had this interpretation wrong or I may need to really consider that my understanding of this text may not be really aligned with the true meaning. That to me shows true maturity in I believe it's from those type of conversations and thoughts that we can really grow but when we are locked in on one particular way of thinking and no matter what the preponderance of evidence may say we are convinced that our way of looking at it because it's the way we looked at it for so long is indeed the right way then I think at that point we or the individuals should really have some strong conversations within himself about just how much they really want to grow in the truth knowledge and truth of the word.

@@leo72885 Hello Brother. Indeed, the Dead Sea Scrolls were and are a massive Gift from God, Fully backing up and authenticating the Old Testament, as well as Proving, given some of them were written when Christ walked the Earth! (the Youngest were from 68 AD 34 Years after Christ returned to Heaven and 2 Years after Saint Paul went to be with the Lord) what is written in the Scripture, that God will Preserve his Holy Word, after all, and He more than Proved it by Preserving the Dead Sea Scrolls for over 20 Centuries!
One can also hope such a *literal Miracle* helped that Young Bedouin who found them to Convert :)
The Scrolls Being in the Original Hebrew has also given us an unparalleled Opportunity to lean the Hebrew Mindset and see more of the Bible in the way it was originally Written, especially when it comes to Understanding the Imaginative Poetry in the Psalms and the Song of Songs!
Indeed, without understanding the Hebrew Mind (I know the Body of Christ can often come down and *Hard* against Tim Mackie at Times, as He is Perhaps more for the Lambs than for the Grown Sheep, but He is still *very* useful for a "layman's" approach to Understanding the Hebrew Mind) understanding the Bible can be extremely challenging indeed, even with the Holy Ghost Illuminating the Scripture and Providing Gods own Wisdom (as after all, the Holy Ghost *wrote* the Scriptures through the original Writers) on them.
Indeed, Aramaic Hebrew to Koine Greek to Latin to Jacobean to modern English is going to Result in the odd Error, even the Translators of the King James admitted they got a few things wrong, but felt (and as time has proven, they were *very* Right indeed!) that they were still extremely accurate to the Original Meanings, but, errors, are, sadly, Inevitable, as, even with the Holy Ghost, we are still very flawed, we are, after all, only Dust.
Indeed, as I pointed out in another comment, a lot of the Reason for why so many People get confused on the Scriptures in the Gospel according to Saint Matthew is that they forget that Saint Matthew, Levi, was a 1st Century Messianic Jew and wrote from a Jewish Mindset, that, sadly, is Alien to many of us Gentiles, Saint Luke, being a Gentile (a Follower of Saint Paul) had an Understanding much closer to Ours, Saint John the Divine, also a First Century Messianic Jew, as he wrote His gospel much later, had come to understand the Gentile Mindset through Saint Luke and Saint Paul (a Messianic Jew after his Conversion by Christ Himself on the Road to Damascus, but raised among Gentiles so He could understand both Mindsets and be, as written, all things to all men" ) which is why their Gospels are easier to Understand. Not being able to Understand the Jewish/Hebrew Mindset is what leads to some of the Confusion with Saint Matthew however.
There is also the fact, that, although "The Chosen" has become very Controversial in the Body of Christ due to the involvement of a Cult in its Production, I think the Writers (a Messianic Rabbi, a Catholic Priest, and an Evangelical Scholar) may Possibly have hit a Truth in Portraying Saint Matthew as Autistic, as His Incredible Memory for Details and Extremely Ordered approach to the Gospel (dividing it into 5 Distinct "Blocks" to Reflect the 5 Books of Moses, portraying Jesus as the "Greater Moses" , the True Messiah, whom He was and is, Promised by Moses Himself!) do strike this Aspie Mind as the Result of a Mind...like My own, which could also account for some of the Confusion some People get from His Gospel.
Indeed, Both king Solomon and Saint Peter tell us, through Holy Writ, *not* to lean on our own understanding! I believe this is because Our understanding is Inherently Flawed we only understand In part and will not understand fully this side of the Bosom of Abraham. We see through a mirror, darkly. Indeed, only God knows the true meaning of the text, and we must allow him to teach us through the Holy Ghost, and exegesis, if we try and stick to our own understanding, we can miss the mark by miles!
Indeed, as Humans we suffer terribly with the Sin of Pride, as Saint Paul tells us, the Flesh still wants to Sin and we are locked in a battle with the Flesh as a result! Pride is part of the Flesh, and it can be very Hard, but it is Vital, to accept that we may have an understanding that is *very* wrong and that we need to eat some humble pie! being locked into one way of thinking is very bad. Some of us are so Locked into Liturgy that we can fail to see Churches without it, even when the Teaching is completely Biblical, as actual Churches, while some others are so locked into a Puritanical Rejection of anything it sees as "catholic" that it throws the Liturgy out with the Bathwater and becomes almost venomous against Churches that do use Liturgy , and it, sadly, causes a lot of Division among the Body of Christ ! the Right Hand tries to tell the Left Foot to get off the Bus and that is a Massive Shame. I like a Combination of High Liturgy and Evangelical, Biblical (what the world calls "calvinist" ) Teaching Personally.
Indeed, I do not have the maturity to fully understand some of the most intelligent conversations out there, I only got saved a year ago, and I have always been very Immature, I openly admit that I have a Developmental Delay, so I am a babe in Christ and in soul, so some elements of Spiritual Maturity fly so far above My head they may as well have boarded a 747... but I do appreciate them!
Me, I hope against hope that God will give Me the Wisdom to understand whatever He wills for Me to understand, and that I will have the level of Maturity that He wills for Me to have. As Christ himself said "not mine own will, but thine, be done" . As God Wills.
Do take care Brother, and thank You for this Brilliant and Edifying Conversation :) Love and Peace :)

I remember teaching on this passage several years ago at my former church. I took the same position as you--that passage doesn't mean that believers can bind and loose anything they want to. They have to pray in accordance with scripture and the will of God. I did a lot of research. When I finished teaching, my former pastor shook his head at me like everything I said was wrong. It was discouraging at the time. Now, hearing you teach basically the same thing, it makes me feel like I wasn't completely off base.
A lot of people will probably have a hard time accepting this message because they want to feel like they're in control and they can protect themselves and their loved ones from all hurt, harm, and danger. And that's not Biblical either. Christ said we would have trouble in this world.

Like a sheriff deputizing a citizen.. It was for them at that time. If you are binding and loosing with the right intention ( biblically) you're doing the right thing. That's how you test the spirits: is it with the right intention . Why can’t the PRINCIPLE of binding and loosing be used in different ways? It sounds like he’s saying that because the original context was about the gospel, that automatically means that it cannot be used for other things. God can loose more in Heaven than the gospel(including prosperity, health, etc.), so why does the principle not work for other things? I agree that you can only loose and bind what’s already been allowed by God. It’s nice to know the context, but why do you automatically assume that it ONLY works in that context? The scriptures don’t say that this principle can be used only for church and spreading the gospel. There are many people who have testimonies about binding and loosing.

The Lord gave his disciples a measure of authority, or "exousia" (bind), over impure spirits, and said He has given us authority over unclean spirits. Jesus spoke the Word, and rebuked demonic spirits. Jesus had authority over all realms. I think it requires study in order to use God's Word properly. God gave us spiritual armor, and rescued us from the dominion of darkness, and translated us into the kingdom of His dear Son. Jesus disarmed the powers and authorities (exousia) and "made a public spectacle of them, triumphing over them by the cross." Satan is a defeated foe because we serve the One who has authority over all.

Being filled with the Holy Spirit releases/looses righteousness upon and through us. This insults and usurps power over demonic agendas in our families and communities. We should definitely bind evil operations that have taken advantage of us, but that doesn't mean we have to necessarily name every devil, but it also doesn't mean you shouldn't. We should focus on being partners with Holy Spirit. Obedience to Holy Spirit and the word of God has plenty of liberty that we learn to experience through trial and error. Acts of faith makes us free in His righteousness, and takes ground from the enemy in heavenly places.

Man of God. This is yet another fantastic video and teaching. Incredible! Thank You again! So, desperately needed. Me and my fellow Apostle were just talking about this last week. You have done a great job clearing up any confusion; If they listen! Which I pray they will do. The context is very important and you nailed it.
If you read the Bible, the only time it talks about Satan being bound is in Revelation 20:1 I believe. When Satan is bound in chains for 1000 years. Right before the Millennial Reign of Christ. Another thing that people miss is that authority was NOT given to the whole Church.
Everyone and their grandmother thinks they can just go around binding and loosing stuff. They even tell new believers in Christ they can do the same thing. It's troubling when I hear it misused so much. That passage is talking about a very specific thing and Jesus was talking to his Apostles. Because they had to continue what Jesus was doing, which was teaching the Kingdom and allowing the people to enter into the knowledge and truth of the Kingdom of Heaven. Not everyone can do that.
James 3:1 tells the Church that not all of them should be trying to be teachers because our judgment is going to be harsher. There is a special anointing that comes with teaching the principles of the Kingdom and Jesus. And the Lord was making it clear that he was giving the keys to be able to do that to Peter, who was a leader amongst the Apostles, as well as the other Apostles who were charged to continue to teach Christ and the Kingdom Principles and Doctrine that will allow people to become citizens if his Kingdom through Faith and his Spirit and that knowledge.
I've heard people trying to bind Demons and loose Jobs and houses and money and everything else. Hopefully now people will hear this and understand. As always, God bless you and keep representing the Kingdom my brother. This world so needs you. And I'm yet praying for you and your channel. Peace and Love to you and your family.

Key word “think” the Power that worketh within us “THE HOLY SPIRIT who is the Spirit of the LORD
      who intercedes on our behalf
      Romans 8:26-27
In the same way, the Spirit helps us in our weakness. We do not know what we ought to pray for, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us through wordless groans.
And he who searches our hearts knows the mind of the Spirit, because the Spirit intercedes for God’s people in accordance with the will of God.
Binding and Loosing works but there is a process
      1. Your heart must be right (pure)
      2. Repentance before you go to God in prayer (all things in JESUS name)
      3. Know that Binding and Loosing has a sequence
I can go on but it will be lengthy… bottom line is We have been given authority over the enemy in the name of JESUS … the weapons of warfare are not carnal but mighty through GOD to the pulling down of strongholds..
What I read on the this platform are a lot of yes men who may have knowledge but possess no power.
I love you all in Christ Jesus and pray that the HolySpirit lead you and guide you someone or a place of worship that has leaders who are equipped to teach what you truly need to know.

💖🙏💖🙏💖 because it sooo resonates with our flesh the belief that we should be rich and healthy, that's why people resort to such tactics as binding the devil! Many a Chrsitian bought into the idea without ever questioning it. For the Bible clearly states in 1 Peter 5:8 : Be alert and of sober mind. Your enemy is the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour. So much for the idea of binding him.
Rather we may use the following verse to stand against him Ephesians 6:11 : Put on the full armour of God, so that you can take your stand against the devil's schemes.

This is a lot of nitpicking on words. We can bind the enemy in our lives in prayer. Which simply means to DISALLOW Satan and his plans. (Whatever we disallow on earth will be disallowed in heaven and whatever we loose (allow) on earth will be loosed (allowed) in heaven. Jesus Christ has given the believer authority. Luke 10:19. Christians can’t bind Satan LITERALLY as in put him in PHYSICAL chains. That’ll be done by an angel at the end of the world before Satan is cast into the lake of fire (Revelation 20:1-3). But for now, we have authority over ALL the powers (his tricks and schemes etc) of the enemy and can bind (DISALLOW) him.
This is why in Matthew 18:18 (which is the other place in scripture where Jesus Christ also says the same thing about binding and loosing), he follows up with the verse 19 which says- Again I say to you that if two of you AGREE on earth concerning anything that they ask, it will be DONE FOR THEM by My Father in heaven. (As long as it’s in line with His will and in harmony with scripture).
In as mush as God is sovereign and does His will, He has also given Christians authority here on earth through Christ Jesus (as He intended for us to have before the fall of man), and intends to restore that authority of us having dominion here on earth and reining with him. Revelation 5:10
    And have made us kings and priests to our God;
And we shall reign on the earth.
This was quite some nitpicking on words but Christians DO have authority to bind (DISALLOW) Satan and his attacks against us.

Jesus’ words meant that Peter would have the right to enter the kingdom himself, that he would have general authority symbolized by the possession of the keys, and that preaching the gospel would be the means of opening the kingdom of heaven to all believers and shutting it against unbelievers.
The book of Acts shows us this (Binding & Loosing) process at work. By his sermon on the day of Pentecost (Acts 2:14-40), Peter opened the door of the kingdom for the first time. The expressions “bind” and “loose” were common to Jewish legal phraseology meaning to declare something forbidden or to declare it allowed.
Peace & Grace in Jesus precious name.

Thanks for sharing. The issue to me is when we take praying out of the context Jesus have to us in the Sermon on the Mount. Where we are to pray in the context of Gods will always.
So me binding and losing must have been established in heaven initially for it to work, otherwise I would be praying amiss. The will of man doesn’t overshadow the will of God. The power of binding is our commanding in confidence what God has already established.

The same thing applies to saying if any two of touch and agree on anything in my name I’ll give it to you. It’s to always be treated in the context of what the formula of prayer provided by the Lord. Just using the name of Jesus doesn’t take away the response of the believers that whenever we pray we essentially say let your will be done on earth as it is in heaven, meaning me requesting something out of Gods will while saying his name doesn’t cause God to cancel His will regarding your prayer request because you used the name of Jesus, or to the video at hand just because you said I bind or I loose. We can’t obligate God to something outside his intended will.

I found this video helpful. I was raised in a very charismatic environment and in the last few years have kind of stepped back and reassessed some of the things I have been taught...so I have a couple questions on this, but truly not trying to be challenging but just seeking truth and understanding. I do agree that these scriptures have been taken out of context a lot and some of the things you pointed out, I was like ,"Oh, that makes sense now"...very good teaching. One thing I kind of am confused about is that you said the angel didn't presume he could have control over satan so we definitely shouldn't...but we are the children of God and he is a King, so as his children, in a Kingdom setup, wouldn't we have more authority than an angel? Again, my background may be causing me some confusion. Also, we have the Holy Spirit in us, so don't we have authority because of God's Holy Spirit in us? Like, I understand that we are not God, but can we say to Satan he has to leave because we have the Holy Spirit in us and He has that authority and because we are God's children? I know you mention Actd at the end there...but I'm just seeking some clarity and understanding on this aspect. Coming out of the charismatic lifestyle I find myself a little confused at times and kind of feel a little unsteady and defenseless because everything I use to know for certain and felt very confident in, is now proving to be out of line and context and I am really enjoying learning correct doctrine and theology and would appreciate your thoughts on these questions I have. Thank you in advance!

I have a similar question. Is it a bad thing to pray against the devil? I would think not. Often times, Christians allow the devil/evil spirits to bully them. I know I’ve fallen victim to that. It’s standing in the authority of scripture that has brought me freedom. in fact, even Jesus told him “depart from me Satan.” I would think telling the devil to get out of here isn’t unbiblical?

I also would like to know how to place the story of Paul rebuking the python spirit acting in a female sevant in Acts 16:16-24. You need this authority to free people under demonic powers too. But you must do that in submission unto God and be guided by the Holy spirit. In this you follow what already happened in Heaven. I think that your motivation and heart are to be checked before engaging this kind of siritual fights. It looks than different than in the hypercharismatic churches. This point needs a larger study in my opinion.

I think it is important here to remember what power God has given us directly in scripture. In a kingdom setup we only have the power given to us by our king. If our king has not given us the authority to do something then our words carry little weight. We are heirs to gods kingdom but we are also servants. Even Jesus did not come to be served but to serve others. Following his example we also should serve others. When it comes to the holy spirit, we should remember why it was given to us in the first place. Jesus left the earth and left us the holy spirit. The holy spirit is a teacher, a guide, and protects us. The holy spirit helps us to know when we are doing what is right or wrong. When demons are cast out it is done in Jesus name. Not of our own power but Jesus. The devil has to leave when you resist him as said in scripture but that resistance as referenced in James 4:7 is to submit yourself to god, and elevate his word above your own desires. When you read the whole chapter discussing this it becomes clear that people had sinful desires within them coming out and rather then humbling themselves before God they were choosing the world. Even when Jesus tells the devil to leave he submits himself to the Lord quoting scripture and staying obedient to the god, rather then giving in to temptation leaving the devil no foothold in his life. Jesus had the power to command the devil to leave and call angels to help him, but he chose not to. This was to fulfill many things, but one of them being an example on how to live ourselves as he lived a perfect sinless life.

In isaiah 22 the king of Jerusalem gave the "keys" the authority to rule the kingdom to Eliakim while the king was gone. It's the same thing. Later in acts the apostles come together about circumcision. Jesus never taught them so they got together and said you no longer need to be circumcised, that baptism was enough. Jesus doesn't give us authority. When you read that passage you need to read all of it. It's to peter. The rock. The one he builds his church on.
