The Mantis is 100% the greatest parody episode of the show to date, I adore it so much. Having three different people act incredibly suspicious for no apparent reason, then have them all enter the room during the unmasking from the most ridiculous areas possible.
And also having specific named plans for catching 8 foot tall insects, the writers had fun with this
Yeah, Vulture's Claw was one of my favorite episodes as a kid and kept me guessing who the culprit was for most of its runtime.
I love how the gang's plan for catching giant insects is apparently to hope that there is a conveniently placed chandelier that is just the right shape to simply confine the insect instead of crushing it to death.
Mmm your right it is a parody
The ending definitely felt like something later writers with forty years of watching the franchise would come up with!

@@JoeGoesOver I think they did - especially the "Guess Who" incarnation which had more than one celeb guest stage the crime for one reason or another.
TBF my cats also destroy everything in my room the moment I leave and hide my stuff in places where I don't find it for months. Instead of dressing as a cat, you could just leave a cat behind at the scene of a robbery and everyone would just assume they did it, and instantly forgive them because cat.
I WISH my wife's cat would limit her destruction to what we saw in the episode.
That little !% is lucky our couch was already worn out by the time she came along because all the little pinpricks she put all over the edge and top would be a lot to forgive.
I've never had a cat this irritating. Oh well, at least my wife's happy. *sigh

Every upload is nerve-wracking.

@@JoeGoesOver 12:57: (In response to criticizing Edna's bias towards capes) Never underestimate the fashion sense of the cape, as it could be used to mean many things. For Royals, it's to make them look more extravagant than intended. For Hero characters, the cape could be a symbol of chivalry. For Villains, it's to give off intimidation. For Animators and Filmmakers, it's to help give weight to physics, or being in motion.
@@JoeGoesOver The Cat 🐈⬛ creature did look 👀 awesome 😎

Imagining an insect sneezing is funny and adorable
Almost as good as the earlier Iron Face episode where Shaggy and Scooby visited the old prison and an echoing voice said “Nooooooooooo” just cause imagining Mama Mione trying to scare them with a random “Noooooooo” is hilarious..😂
"Insects" and "adorable" generally don't mix.
No matter how much anime and manga try to force it!
Though first stage Kumoko admittedly comes close!
And Zabuton from 'Farming Life', too, I suppose. Who could hate that cute little high five?
I’m so happy Casey voiced the jewelry store owner
The two principal male voice actors did a LOT of secondary characters throughout the life of the franchise's early days. It saved Hanna-Barbera a TON of money!
Thanks for watching and commenting!
@@JoeGoesOver There's been a rule in place that a VA can voice up to 3 characters in a production (or episode in this case) without additional payment. True it saves money for the studio but sometimes the VAs get to stretch their vocal talents.
Sadly, the voice artists had to FIGHT for that, too!
Glad you're back Joe. Always a great day when you post
Thank you very much for saying so! And for watching and commenting and supporting my channel!
Hopefully it will stay up this time and I won't get another content match takedown!
That "secret tunnel" clip gets me every time.😂😂
I will never stop using it!
"The Creepy Creature of Vulture's Claw" should've been about Professor Greece and Dickerman both dressing up as giant praying mantises, scaring each other around in the hopes that the other one would leave the property of Vulture's Claw and thus gets all the oil for himself.
The rare times the Scooby franchise offered competing villains were always a treat!
That would have been hilarious!!
That would have been fun. Thought that did end up being the plot of the scarecrow episode of Be Cool.
I loved this duo of episodes, I remember being kinda shocked as a kid on how that psychologist was willing to gaslight the poor little grandma like that.
I probably should have delved more into just how awful it was when you give it thought, though at least I mentioned how bad it was for him to give Daphne her aunt's prescription.

@@JoeGoesOver, no matter, that’s three villains, or rather 4 once we reach Scooby’s Chinese Fortune Kooky Caper, in this show alone that deserve to be hated for manipulating people who trust them to their advantage. I don’t know about you, but I for one think the Scooby Doo Show deserves credit for presenting the emotional abusers of this show as the bad guys, though it was too long ago before anyone would’ve known what gaslighting is and how it affects people who are victims of it..

22:30 The way Daphne is holding the picture…she’s either a contortionist or her wrist is broken.

Whereas all I noticed was I inadvertently grabbed a frame where Fred's eyes were closed.

the very first one of these
Bell's height changes. In one shot, he's like two feet taller than Olivia, but when he gives Daphne the prescription, he's only a few inches taller than her.
The animators clearly looked at the model sheets as suggestions, not instructions.
Episode one: Call Batman
Episode 2: Call Spaceeeeghoooooossst!
Actually, the Cougar ..uh ..Feline Creature has a lot in common with the very first design of Catwoman. Who looked a lot like that at first, and was a jewel thief.
Early Batman supervillains were often weird, but it's amazing Joker started out looking like that since his first appearance.
Bill Finger knew what he was doing.
My headcanon for the Feline Creature's cape is that it's like Batman's cape. In a pinch, it can serve as something of a hang glider or parachute, just in case he does wind up falling off a building.
That would be brilliant, but we know that Hanna-Barbara would be too lazy to think that one up. If the cape was just for fashion though, it would be a good time to call up Edna Mode..
The problem is Bell was climbing gothic architecture with a bunch of pointy things that could catch the cape.
He's lucky the Scooby Gang busted him before he accidentally ended up hanging himself!
Thanks for watching and commenting!
For me, “Cat Creature” always refers to the one from What’s New. I honestly think it’s the most deserving of the moniker, since it’s the only one that didn’t become a human, whether imagined or real, thus the term “werecat” can’t apply. As for the cops not getting in the gang’s face, I wouldn’t be surprised if the gang had international, or at least national, recognition for all the cases they solved. And for Bixby being an accomplice, I think it’s the usual. Hanna-Barbara being Hanna-Barbara.
The mantis monster was pretty cool, so it’s a shame his episode ranked on the low side. Though I’m surprised they called it a mantis monster when it looks less like one than the future monster, mostly with the head. I’d have called it a locust, which would fit better with the design (including the arm spikes which mantids do have) and the location of botanical gardens.
Great video as always, Joe! Looking forward for the next one, where we learn who that weirdo who shows up whenever you say “decade” is!
I wonder if the script called for a mantis monster, but the art staff didn't get the memo and were just told to design an insect creature, because you are 100% correct that it looked more like a grasshopper life form than praying mantis!
Thanks for watching and commenting!
I'm pretty sure the reason they had a hard time getting a cab is because the taxi drivers know about the Scooby Gang and didn't want to risk accidentally getting pulled into a mystery. As a New Yorker, I will say that if a brown package is delivered to anyone's house and there's no name on it, guaranteed the police would be called to make sure it's not a bomb. Also the Feline Creature costume kinda looks like Catwoman's first costume from Batman #3.
Ah, those were simpler times in the 1970s, when nothing bad EVER happened in the city.

Actually, the rotating wall could be for anyone who came into the apartment, a friend with the key or the like. Otherwise, they can disprove the curse by saying "i was here and saw you asleep at the tine of the robbery"
You make a good point. That would solve the problem of any intruding busybodies, but from the looks of things, Aunt Oliva seemed to live a very solitary lifestyle, enough so that her doctor had to visit her rather than her seeing him at his clinic.
I don't think the odds were too high of anyone visiting her.
Sadly, I suspect the old lady's destiny is to be the subject of a welfare check after her utility bills stop getting paid.
The Cat Creature was one of my favourite Scooby Doo villains and the final fight was well animated.
The elevator chase was weird because they spent so much extra time and effort animating it, yet they still couldn't keep the drawings themselves consistent.
Thanks for watching, commenting and subscribing!
Another interesting fact about the Cat Creature episode was that it apparently had two titles. The better known was “Make A Beeline Away From That Feline”. However for a dvd release the episode, for some reason, was renamed “Who was that Cat Creature I Saw You With Last Night”. And funny enough Max is currently showing the Scooby Doo Show using both titles for the episode showing it as “Make A Beeline Away From That Feline or Who Was That Cat Creature I Saw You With Last Night”
Hah, you're right! I just checked out my own account on that service to verify!
It's been said that the DVD release also used the "Cat Creature" variant as the title, but my copy has "Beeline" both on the box art and in the episode itself.
There might be an interesting behind-the-scenes story about that, but it's also just as likely to be a boring tale of people making mistakes.
Thanks for watching and commenting!
Dang this one came out quick. Today will be a good day.
Thank you very much! I wanted to get this upload out before my next out-of-town trip.

That elevator scene is legendary
It's an interesting bit of animation, that's for certain.
It shows a lot of extra care taken during the drawing, compared to the rest of the episode, yet also manages to be very off model as well.

Not sure, he did do a kidnapping. But I'm hopeful too
Don't take your dog to the vet after his paw just got crushed or anything. It's like they're bad pet owners or something. Also, Scooby is carrying all the luggage. The least they could do is push the elevator button. But no. Push the button, will ya Scooby?
Yeah, I’m surprised Joe didn’t mention it but had the time to talk about empty streets with little to no traffic. We all know Hanna-Barbara by now, we know why the streets are empty..(“cheep cheep cheep cheep”😂)
Worst. Dog owners. EVER.

Ok, Dead Meat has conditioned me to hear "bixby" and think of some weirdo popping out and yelling "BIXBY!"
I had to look that one up.
Despite all the horror RUclipsrs I follow, I'm not actually a horror film fan.
Thanks for watching and commenting!
@@JoeGoesOver, funny enough, I don’t follow him, but I heard about Dead Meat thanks to everyone’s favorite retired RUclips theorist MatPat in his Film Theory video on how to defeat Freddy Krueger. But consider yourself fortunate that you get yourself a New York joke. Right now I can’t help but think about Dead Meat without remembering his video on Silent Night Deadly Night, and now I’m thinking about the “Garbage Day” kill 😂. Gotta love a serial killer who’s nilly-willy on murdering others but spares a little girl from the carnage because his victims are people he believes are naughty because of trauma from his parents being murdered and raped by a killer Santa (wow , old horror movies were really good at casually including rape scenes without really delving into the psychological ramifications of such a horrific crime against humanity, who would’ve thought?). Never forget how campy a movie can get when the acting is so bad that you just can’t help but laugh unexpectedly..
7:22 Looks we also found one of Shaggy's relatives as well.
Perhaps Bixby was related and Shaggy had been planning on mooching off of him, but the Feline Creature got to him first?

@@JoeGoesOver i like this idea
I'm saddened that both of these villains got such low scores,as I had season three of this showon DVD and watched it many times, making these some of my favorite villains by design alone. However I do understand the scores, especially the cat creatures as he was just attacking for the sake of it instead of running away with his prize
...I just realized that is ironicaly the most cat thing ever.
You make a good point.
Bell got so invested in his Feline Creature disguise, that he spent way too much time playing with his food.
Thanks for watching and commenting!
I think it wouldve been cool if the mantis monster had garden shears or claws for hands or something. Itd need explanation probably, but imagine a mutant bug monster slicing apart the building with gigantic scythes, nearly tsking off Scooby and Shaggy's heads
Perhaps during the failed experiment that created the monster, there were some garden shears sitting next to the tank that held whatever the mad scientist had been using to store his biological specimens.
Or if the experiment involved transporters, that'd solve the issue immediately.
Can't be too careful when it comes to not contaminating the lab when you're dealing with those things.
Just ask poor Dr. Brundle!

A few months ago I watched all of the Scooby-Doo show for additional context on your future episodes, and a few days before this video released, I remembered the cat creature episode and thought "Oh boy, this is gonna be a Doozy for Joe".
So far, most of the third season has been doozies!
Thanks for watching, commenting and supporting my channel!
The only way I can tell an alligator from a crocodile is if I see it later, or after while.
That literally got a bark of laughter out of me! 😀
Now if only "caiman" had a folksy expression that rhymes.
"Hey man. Gotta go catch a caiman"...?
Wow. That was terrible. I gave about as much thought to that as the writers did for most of this third season!
Thanks for watching and commenting!
@@JoeGoesOver, as far as I know, the closest rhyme I can think of for caimon is the name Paimon? Then I remember that Peter Graham, the character played by Alex Wolff in Hereditary, was traumatized so badly and half-dead by the end of the movie that he was made a somewhat walking living corpse possessed by Paimon, which is why that demon lord’s name earns my hatred when I think about it, so no go..
Couldn't the scene where Greer drops Shaggy and Scooby down a trap door count as attempted murder? The fact that a crocodile was down there makes me think he was hoping it would eat them.
Ooh, good point, though he would have to have known of the animal down there for it to count. Otherwise, it's just a really, REALLY dumb mistake because all it did was show Shaggy and Scooby there was oil under the gardens.
Make that TWO really dumb mistakes because I neglected to include it in my video.
Damn!

Im sorry but can we talk about how Shaggy can somehow turn his head 180 degrees at will?

1:04-it also spells “hoy dogs” instead of “hot dogs”. And that ‘secret tunnel’ is not so secret at all. It wouldn’t have made sense for a sewer system to have a trapdoor into the jewelry store and the mausoleum.
It would have if it were an escape tunnel from the Prohibition era. NYC is riddled with all sorts of tunnels including closed off train lines, etc.
I was going to point that out in my video, but then ended up mostly using a different frame where the background artist wrote the word properly, so it got dropped.
Thanks for watching and commenting!
SECRET TUNNEL! xD Hi Joe. The feline creature episode is really wack, even for scooby doo. Also further proof scooby is an Eldritch god or Alien with all his magic shenanigans. Great video as always and best wishes.

@@JoeGoesOver Of course! Enjoy your out of town trip! You deserve it.
12:57 Just like the Windmakers from the Speed Buggy Crossover, Cat Creature felt more like a cat-themed supervillain with that cape! What with him robbing jewelry stores (Including a valuable ruby) Is able to climb through walls, and the fact that he's a literal cat burglar. Cat Man over here would rather be in the Batman Cartoon rather than Scooby-Doo.
Firefighters should add capes to their uniforms, just to go from regular heroes to superheroes!
Probably a bad idea from a practical standpoint, though.

Is Shaggy a nevernude?
Like, no man, you don't get it. Pajamas over clothes is genius! Suppose some big, spooky monster shows up while I'm in bed. I can run outside where it's easier to escape, ditch the sleepwear, and not look ridiculous in my pajama as I, like, run down the street screaming about a giant, feral hummingbird monster, or whatever it was.
Always wearing his regular clothes in bed does sound like a Shaggy joke from a later Scooby series. I can absolutely hear Matthew Lillard in my head explaining that to Fred and the girls.

Prof. Greer joins Alice Dovely as one of the most despicable Scooby villains.
A botanist of all people, a scientist, should know how important it is to protect any green area from unchecked capitalism, but he's perfectly fine demolishing a huge and probably historical botanical garden so that he could get rich.
Both villains featured in this video are terrible in that respect. Greer ignored the physical damage he would do to the environment by introducing oil extraction to the gardens, while Bell ignored the mental damage he was doing to his patient, Aunt Olivia.
I really should have focused on that aspect more in my video. Damn!
As much as I adore all the nice comments my videos get, sadly there's almost always quite a few that point out something obvious that I missed.
Regardless, thank you very much for watching, commenting and subscribing!
@@JoeGoesOver I know entomologists who will cry their eyes out that a specific species of moth in Florida is endangered, and it has like a specific thing it lays it'seggs on, and it's so heartwrenching because you can't sell people the conservation of this animal the way you can a panda. People will just go 'It's another moth, what of it?'.
To think this man loved plants so much he wanted to spend his whole life with them, and then he did this. He probably knew every single rare plant that would be obliterated in this dig, and he still did it. No wonder Velma is so smug.
Yeah, Prof Greer easily joins Dovely in the scummy scooby doo villian hall of fame (I'd also add Leon Vanaugh to that roster).
Tho one point if I had to nitpick, I wouldn't call it 'unchecked Capitalism', so much as 'unchecked Human greed/short-sightedness'. 30:00 -- The doorman wasn't even all that great a red herring, either. Usually weird, menacing figures like him turn out to be an undercover cop or something; here, he was just this surly guy who popped up now and again ominously, spying on Mystery Inc. as they investigated Aunt Olivia's "curse". Was he another possibility for an undeclared partner of Dr. Bell's, or was he like one of those security guards who think they're actual police officials and treats their workplace (mall, parking lot, etc.) like it's their precinct?
He's like Paul Blart, but tall instead of fat.
Of course, spying on the Gang should be part of is job (if he was doing things properly).

Surprised you didn't mention that Bell bit his own finger while thinking it was a hotdog. I know that the monsters often fall for Shaggy and Scooby's shenanigans, but that's Carl the Stuntman levels of stupid.
I almost used a few frames from that scene, but it didn't feel right during the editing.
Though technically not a "mistake" in the sense that it led to his downfall, I suppose it would have shown more of Bell's ineptitude.

2:18 So apparently, New Yorkers drive on the left side of the road now, even though the other cab was clearly on the right side.
The jewellers voice is so Shaggy-like, I would be surprised if he wasn't another uncle or maybe a more distant cousin. Respect for trying a different voice at least, Casey.
4:04 Shaggy can turn his head a full 180 degrees apparently
It's my headcanon that B.B. Bell was inspired by Catwoman from the Batman comics, except he didn't get the part where you steal the jewelry quietly instead of going ham. Also, just gotta say it, this episode included a literal cat burglar.
Hypnosis is so effective in the Scooby Dooniverse that I wouldn't be surprised if the military tried to weaponize it for wars. Just build a big pendulum and tell the enemy armies that they are feeling sleepy. And then boom. Dead.
31:35 I don't know why, but that frame is funny as hell
I'll give the Scooby writers this, they weren't generic enough to make the monster at Vulture's Claw a... well... vulture.

*John Griffith was the twin brother of supporting character James Griffith. Neither are actually given any first names (they are called “Mr. Griffith” and “Mr. Griffith's twin brother”) so I have referred to the villainous twin as “John” and the supporting character as “James” for the sake of distinguishing the two.
wow this comment became long
Thank you for your kind words!
Considering his was the only car on the road, and the only two policemen in the city were at the jewelry store, the cab driver probably felt it was safe to drive that way!
As for Shaggy's neck twist, it's all fun and games until he grabs a crucifix!
Our government has done some bonkers things when it comes to defense, making hypnosis sound almost quaint by comparison.
There are TONS of goofy frames, and if I had more time, I'd resurrect my RUclips Shorts series and highlight some!
And if they had used a vulture for the villain, the Addams Family might show up to complain! Perhaps even in a helicopter!

@@JoeGoesOver Ah yes, the HEELIcopter
Might just be me, but I always found it a bit strange how the Feline Creature was pretty clearly male, when it was supposed to be Olivia transformed into a monster. That would kinda be like if Simone and Lena were transformed into burly cat-men after they revealed themselves to the gang in ZI. I get it would be weird having the tall and seemingly slightly buff Bell be wearing a skinny female cat-monster costume, but the writers hasn't cared about stuff like that before (looking at Mr. Wickles, Elina Stonehack and a few others) and they could've, if they actually cared about logistics, made Bell a woman of a similar build to Olivia. It's not like female culprits wasn't a thing when the series was going on at the time and female psychologists and doctors weren't that rare (though unfortunately not as respected as male ones) at the time.
Still, great video per usual, Joe, and condolences for the reupload. RUclips really stinks at times.
I mean, they did to the genderswap (kinda) with Mama Mione dressing up as a male prisoner, but this wasn't the first time that a guy dressed up as a female monster.
Who could forget ol' Zeb Perkins dressing up as the witch waaaaay back in 'Which Witch is Witch'?
Thanks for the commiseration about RUclips. I sweat bullets on every upload anymore.
And thanks for watching, subscribing and supporting my channel!
I'd totally forgotten about the Vulture's Claw episode until recently, interesting episode with 3 differeant people acting suspicions the villain being Velmas friend could be a bit surprising at first, also all the height changing was crazy 😅you can defiantly tell quality control was not the best
I wish real life had such issues.
I'd love to experience life at 6 feet tall for a change!
I mean, just imagine being able to use ALL the cupboards in the kitchen!

I Hope Your Show Covers The Comic Book Scooby Apocalypse And Every Live Action Film And Scoob
The only thing I'll rule out would be shows that don't fit the Scooby template (can't do a villain ranking without a villain), but my focus will likely remain on the TV series, as those are the ones most fans are familiar with.
Thanks for watching and commenting!
And this is another example of hypnosis in the Scooby Doo franchise where I must ask how long has Mr bell been hypnotizing miss durby. And do you plan on doing Scooby Doo mystery incorporated and what’s new Scooby Doo
True. My guess is he’s being doing this for a while. He did mention other patients before after all. Among the many others, he must’ve found the most success with her. The fact that she trusted him not to scare the kids and was comfortable enough to trust him with her “delusions” certainly supports this idea. In which case, Dr BB Bell is just as vile as Uncle Leon and Alice Dovely, taking advantage of a poor innocent woman and even gaslighting her into believing she was the monster. I hope that cape ends up being the last thing he takes with him as he goes to prison..
I'd like to hit both of those later series eventually, but there's so much in between that I should hit first (not accounting for the occasional one-off films or TV specials).
I hope I get there at some point and I hope you join me there when I do!

They apparently missed a room at the H.H Holmes hotel. Also, if the Cougar .err...Feline Creature..had to make a quick escape, or was falling, maybe the cape poofed out like Batman and the Cougar... Feline Creature...
Could glide to safety.
I could KICK myself that I didn't make a reference to HH Holmes.
In my defense, this wasn't Chicago.
This was New York City.
NEW YORK CITY!?!
A ‘Cougar’? Like ‘Porn set/legitimate film set’?
I'm gonna hold this show responsible for my inability to spell cemetery.
I hold Jimmie Walker from 'Good Times' responsible for my lifelong habit of spelling dynamite with an O.
You likely have to be older than a Millennial to get that reference.

7:22 He does sound like Droopy Dog!🤣😂
It's a moderately guarded secret that voice artists often mimic people they knew in real life when breathing life into their characters.
I wonder if Casey Kasem and Bill Thompson knew the same guy they were imitating?

I first saw this last night when I got home from work... very nice to come home to this 😁 I didn't realise there were more villains from this show I thought they were all done lol I'm glad they're not done though
I've only seen the Creepy Creature of Vulctures Claw so I'm a little biased in my ranking but I rank them as
1) Mantis
2) Feline Creature
I've been watching Scooby-Doo my whole life and plenty of these villains felt new to me as well!
Thanks for your kind words, and for watching and subscribing!
@JoeGoesOver I've been watching Scooby Doo for as long as I can remember, it's hard to imagine a time when I didn't watch it. Me and my mom used to live with my auntie Becky who is OBSESSED with Scooby Doo so I think that definitely got me watching at a VERY young age lol. I love that the villains can still feel new regardless it's really nice
No problemo ^^ thank you for the amazing content as always
The feline creature is very creepy , he doesn' t deserve a 1 for the disguise
I know, but that growl just makes me laugh. It sounds like a dying duck trying to imitate a cat but doesn’t have the vocal training for it so it comes across as a fake cat growl..
I do my best to explain my scoring, but at the end of the day, it's all a matter of personal opinion.
Except for Carl the Stuntman.
He is scientifically proven to be the worst Scooby villain of all time.

Just two more for The Scooby-Doo Show. Then… *distant yell of “Puppy Power!”* He’s coming…
Six more actually.
Unless you were gonna re-edit your comment at some point?
Hey, Scrappy is not that bad... He is the one who basically saved the Scooby Doo franchise when he was introduced... even if it means changing the format into basically Hanna-Barbara's own Three Stooges.
@@colesteadman8107 no, I just misremembered where this was on the DVDs
@@Scorpionspear77 ok then.
Oh, joy. 😐
All kidding aside, as much as I dislike Scrappy (and even as a kid and the intended audience, I hated the little guy), like someone else mentioned in this thread, he did technically save the series from cancellation.
Comic sage Mark Evanier wrote a great article on his personal blog about the creation of Scrappy and he made a good argument for the puppy's value.

20:51-maybe they used it to signal a taxi, considering how shiny it is
I know, right? You just about need to wear shades to look at it!
I assume Bixby Jewelers is a nod to the actor Bill Bixby, a big star at the time this episode first aired and a close friend of Elvis Presley (whose love of jewelry was legendary).
I won't discount that, but usually when the Scooby writers picked a name, it had something to do with the character.
Like how "Stoner" was the name of an archaeologist a few episodes back.
I think they picked "Bixby" just because a writer liked the name.
But who knows?

22:13 Who holds things in their hand like that?
34:00 Yours too huh?
38:00 Maybe John Hinkley Jr was onto something.
46:12 You'd think the others would learn NOT to have Daphne stand behind them by now
46:34 Even as a kid: i thought the animation on Daphne here was terrible.
50:25 If the Live-action went the full parody route like they wanted to, I can imagine Daphne having a punch-out card for her kidnappings. "12 kidnappings and you get a free malt".
1) Contortionists, or people who like to show off their double-jointedness
2) Just found out at 6:00am today she's in the hospital again. She should be fine, but *sigh
3) Decorum prevents me from commenting
4) Perhaps getting kidnapped makes her feel useful?
5) I could never understand why they liked to draw her cross-eyed so often
6) It sounds more like a 'Be Cool, Scooby-Doo' routine

Make a Beeline Away from That Feline was such a scary episode to me as a kid. I'd hate to be in Aunt Plivia's shoes, the man who was supposed to help her and be her most trusted confidant psychologically tortured her and made her lose faith in her own sanity, and the planted clues were so convincing.
That scrap of cloth she was holding turning out to be Shaggy's shirt feels like something out of a werewolf movie. And the nightmares.
And if you are a kid and you don't know it's most likely just a scam, it's so scary that the gang is staying in the same house as Aunt Olivia, and we're not really sure if she is a monster or not. I felt the tension as a kid.
Also, the plot of this episode may have been inspired by the 1945 movie, Cat People, about a woman's obsession that she's turning into a cat monster, but the monster is really just in her head, and represents her sexual repression, the feelings of isolation and distrust of herself, but also people around her.
If you enjoy 'Cat People', the Dark Corners RUclips channel did a very good video on it.
It's surprising how they never dwell too long in the episodes themselves on just how terrible it is for a trusted person like a doctor or uncle (lookin' at you, Leon!) to betray their patient or ward. In later series, they do seem to recognize how serious it is when that happens.
Thanks for watching and commenting and subscribing!
Great video as always!
Thank you very much for saying so! I really love to hear it!
And thanks for watching!
I'm looking forward to the next video, since the first episode discussed will feature the 1 Scooby Doo monster that gave me nightmares as a kid.
You had to have been a certain age or above in the 1970s NOT to find Gene Simmons horrific.
Who'd have thought he was even more scary WITHOUT the makeup?

Man I love stories about elevators taking you to phantom floors or other realities or what not. Sorry the insanity of the Feline creature plan made me want to think of something better done. As someone scared of all bugs and spiders (and my brain files crabs and what not as bugs too) yeah I'm scared of the idea of a big bug man. Unless they're Japanese super heroes. Agreed! You always take shoes off when you go inside. Another fun vid.
I'm not a fan of the insect and spider kingdom myself, though admittedly I'm not nearly as bothered by them as when I was younger.
And can you imagine how brave the first person who ate a crab or lobster had to have been, since those are basically huge spiders and scorpions from the sea?
Ugh, can you imagine if land spiders grew to the same size? Perhaps Western society would have developed an appetite for those as well?
Instead of eating at Long John Silvers, it'd be Daddy Longlegs John Silver!

@@JoeGoesOver well that sounds like the worst parallel universe. But still better then what ever Wendy's calls food lol.
You're not wrong. I remember when Wendy's was the best fast food in my town.
Now not only is the food subpar, but they are perpetually understaffed and the drive through literally only handles one customer at a time from when you order to when you pick up your food.
In other words, you have to wait until the guy in front of you drives away before they'll ask for what you want.
Honestly with how many times the Mystery gang has been in newspapers, i'd suspect the police would know who they are. As opposed to what modern scooby doo tells you, the Scooby gang do infact work with the police, Many times. Infact many times they even decide "Let the police handle the rest" but then the monsters go after the gang.
At this point i would actually believe that as soon as the police find out the gang is on the scene they'll ask them to keep their eyes open for anything they might find suspicious and tell them while the police work on things on their end. Their credibility is that high.
You have a much, much different perspective of American police departments than I do.
Ego is such a massive drive for so many cops in this country that they would be infuriated to have a group of teenagers solve their crimes for them.
Sheriff Stone in 'Mystery Incorporated' is surprisingly realistic in this aspect.
Thanks for watching and commenting!
@@JoeGoesOver I think it isnt my view of the american police as much as its the Scooby police. But yeah, You're right about Stone. However then there's the finale. I wonder how he was after that.

The Cat Creature episode was always one of my favorites. I like Casey Kasem's voice of Dr. Bell even though he didn't say much. Velma's "Nice to have met you, Dr. Bell." to his simple and curt "Yes." was my favorite scene. I swear, many years back, that during a standard tv showing, there was an alternate title to the episode of: Who was that Cat Creature I saw you with? Not 100% sure of that though.
The fansite claims the DVD release of the episode uses that alternate title, but I just checked my copy and the inside box art, DVD title AND episode titles say 'Make a Beeline Away from that Feline', so I can't independently verify this rumor. However, as so many claimed to have seen it, I don't discount it, either.
Warner Bros has had shockingly poor quality control of the franchise's home releases over the years, so it's possible.

Can't wait till you get to What's New Scooby Doo, that's the one I grew up on and I have no recollection of if any of it has held up.
It's been quite some time since I watched that series myself, so plenty of episodes will probably feel brand new to me, too!

To be fair about the medallion having sound effects it shouldn’t, let’s remember that Lisa Vanaugh from the Gramps The Vamps episode had been hypnotized to react to a specific sound in order to be entranced. My guess is the sound effects from the medallion were meant to serve the same purpose, to hypnotize Olivia into having nightmares about becoming the creature and helpless to fight back. Obviously that’s unnecessary and stupid, but a hypnotist like Dr Bell would know that planting suggestions in her head would make it work. Either way, Bell must pay for it!
I remember seeing a 70s-80s movie called the 13th Floor about a floor that "doesn't exist" (you just have to know the secret button twist,) but I never finished it to find out... WHY they were doing a 13th floor trick...
It's amazing how often even modern buildings avoid using 13 as a floor number, because of how superstitious so many people are.
If it was me, I'd be like, "Instead of going through the hassle of pretending this 15 story building has 16 floors, just give me a discount and I'd be more than happy to rent on level 13!"
At least Chinese builders have a better reason to avoid using 4 for their floor numbers as the word is a near homonym for "death" in their language.
Living on "Death Floor" sounds metal as hell to me!

People get taxis alot in the Big apple cause, parking is often hard to afford, plus vandalism is common if its a fancy car, rather its easier to wave a taxi down or walk to and from work.
In my own head canon the cat creature and jagauro from previous episode are sibling monsters both being panther monsters. As for the mantis there are insectoids in sci-fi like invader zim, or Freu Mantis from supermansion their interesting in their own category.
Considering some of the places they've visited with the Mystery Machine, I just find it hilarious that New York is the one place they didn't feel safe bringing it!

Me last time: "I think the Cat Creature will be the new highest scoring villain of the season!"
Well that didn't age well. I think this season is down there with The New Scooby-Doo Movies as far as DOO Scores go. Next time, we'll get to the source of a running gag that's been around for practically "decades" and follow it up with one of my favorites from this show.
In regards to Bell saying that Olivia responded to hypnosis better than any of his other patients, I think the implication of that sentence wasn't that he tried framing his other patients for different crimes but that he is a hypnotherapist, or that he at least dabbles in hypnotherapy alongside other methods.
I'm not sure what you mean about the Scooby wiki referring to the monster as a Feline Creature though, it only ever uses the word "feline" in regards to the title and a trivia entry where it makes a note about this being the second monster in a row based on a feline.
I tend to defer to much of what the Scooby fansite says for the franchise, simply for ease of use. Not that everything there is correct. I've seen countless examples of either wrong facts or "evidence" that doesn't match what's actually seen in the episode.
Much of the third season of 'The Scooby-Doo Show' feels rushed and the product of a studio selling a product that they didn't have enough staff to produce.

The cat creature looks like it would fit into a different cartoon like swat kats that old cartoon instead being a scooby doo villain in my opinion.
It does appear uncomfortably close to a furry suit, doesn't it?

It's also weird to see they shaded the cels, too.

Scooby isn’t the only one who needs a shower after being in a sewer. When the gang finds the secret tunnel (*Singing “Secret Tunnel”*), Daphne cuddles an alley cat that accidentally jump-scared them; she even calls it an alley cat. An alley cat that was literally found in the sewers and presumably knew its way out, and Daphne just carries it in her arms to cuddle it. If memory serves, we established that Daphne is a big germaphobe and somewhat superficial, so her willingly cuddling a presumably dirty abandoned cat is strange. Not to mention, she constantly hangs around a dog, albeit a talking one. I’m surprised that alley cat didn’t run away scurrying from her in fear from having had contact with a canine. Looks like Daphne is gonna need to share a shower with Scooby since they usually don’t stay long enough to establish a safe space to shower. Or they’re gonna have to use Aunt Olivia’s shower for this. Let’s just hope the bathrooms don’t have secret switches like the bedrooms do..
My aunt used to love to smell the toe beans on all the outdoor cats we had out in the country when I was very young.
Outdoor cats that were always killing the local rodent population.
There's no accounting for how much ick a cat person is willing to endure for cuddles.
