'Scooby-Doo and the Alien Invaders' is the third entry in the late-1990s/early-2000s Scooby Renaissance. It's subtle, but if you watch closely, you might be able to tell my thoughts on what blockbuster film may have slightly influenced the producers of this one. We've reached the halfway point of Season Two of 'The Scooby-Doo Show'! This time around we're looking at two dinosaurs, with one not actually being a dinosaur and the other being a mean thing to call someone born in the late-1800s. It's London! It's the Olympics! It's 2012! It's Dan from TYTD Reviews joining me as we discuss the villain from a direct-to-video Scooby-Doo film that Warner Bros. released to take advantage of the Olympic Games, while at the same time clearly not wanting to pay anything to officially take advantage of the Olympic Games. The next two episodes of 'The Scooby-Doo Show' take a literary bent as they both feature monsters from North American and British folklore. Okay, maybe it's not fair to classify Merlin as a "monster", unless you stop and think about what he did to poor Igraine in John Boorman's 'Excalibur' (1981). Do not compliment Putin
So the curse is kind of like the cat friendly version of the creatures from Sleepwalkers. The cat killing, feeding on beautiful girls and gross relationship would have been too much for kids.
I miss this show
Granted, Magnus probably only got two henchmen because they either requested a buttload of money for such a high-risk job and Magnus is on the brink of bankruptcy anyway or they were relatively cheap, but Magnus was too greedy to spend more money on more goons and costumes.
Shouldn't have Sarah Jenkins been the human judged for the Charlie segment (especially the operation) and not her brother, since she's the one who sabotaged (sabotage? how? when?) the robot in the first place?
I'm pretty sure the deleted scene was to make room for more commercials, and was chosen because it might have been a bit too complicated for some young viewers. I know I would have no idea what Batman and Velma were talking about back when I watched this episode on tape
I’m just gonna say it, this series was a love letter to the fans!
something about this series is really soothing to listen to not sure how man times i have looped this ranking but I hope it helps
That joke you make about the gang being experienced scuba divers despite Shaggy saying he can’t swim only works because of inconsistency or more likely lying. My man, this is Shaggy we’re talking about. He lies all the time when he’s scared to death of something and wants to run away from being bait. Obviously he’s gonna lie about not swimming just like the chicken he is. Although, with Ultra Instinct power in his veins, maybe he’s afraid his power will be triggered by swimming and break reality?
4:15 wait, I thought it was the French Narrator from SpongeBob Squarepants who was the Costeau ripoff, not Plausaun or however you spell his name. Also that Decade joke is a clear dead winner (pun not intended but also maybe) for best dad humor joke I can enjoy. 😂
18:28 good analogy. Parasites are also known for accidentally killing humans and themselves because they aren’t adapted to target humans as their hosts (shoutout to MatPat’s old video on the Venom Symbiote) though, so it’s a double edged sword for them too..
10:16 I love how you used actor Brandon Routh’s image for that ‘branding ruse’ statement. Shame that you had a perfect joke right there and you didn’t even make an actual joke about it..
Your explanation for Elwood Crane’s operation leaving behind the newspaper clipping explains why Shaggy was so surprised when he learned he found the biggest piece of evidence for the crime. The way he says “I did?” gets me for how powerful it is. Casey Kasem delivered a 2 second performance better than the entirety of Ewan McGregor’s performance as Obi-Wan Kenobi in the entire Star Wars prequel era with just that line alone..
For the Witch Doctor episode, they should have done a crossover with Alvin and the Chipmunks.
As some who grew up in a Spanish speaking bilingual household, I can confirm that while porta means door, it would actually be spelled as puerta instead. Plus, El Porta? It should actually say La Puerta, not using El cause that just doesn’t work in Spanish.
You know you messed up when the real deal alien’s stop your plan. Also, a lizard dog alien…where can I get one?
35:11 simple. Hammerspace
28:05 You skipped over the part where Scooby literally cuts through the cloud, shapes it like a donut, and then eats it. Bro, it was right there. You had the chance to make a joke about Scooby eating literal air and you didn’t take it? Wasted opportunity there, Joe my man old gramps..
46:11-Maybe Mooney was just taking Marley’s side to throw suspicion off himself
Maybe the unseen driller was dressed as a polar bear, the same one Scooby and Shaggy encountered
If Stern locked them in the cube to almost drown, why would he let them out?
Scooby Dum is my favorite Scooby character.
You forgot to mention that Carl The Stuntman got his own butt kicked by Scooby. Scooby is established as the cowardly dog, as he runs away from every monster he encounters. The only monsters he never ran away from as far as I know are Carl, the Puppet-master, and that time in the Batman crossover episode when Joker and Penguin disguised themselves as skeletons only to be chased away by Scooby himself because “delicious looking bones”. It’s not like Scooby doesn’t know how to be brave. We see with the Puppetmaster and our aforementioned Joker/Penguin duo that he is able to take initiative to chase after the monster without prompting, but here’s the thing. The Joker and Penguin duo made the mistake of dressing up in a lame costume that for some reason was appealing enough to Scooby to want to eat despite Scooby Doo having been scared by similar types of monsters (I’d point out that Joker and Penguin are worse than the monsters Mystery Inc have faced before in general knowing their horrific reputation, but that’s not relevant to the time period the Scooby/Batman crossover came out in, so not gonna comment on it). And with the Puppetmaster, the dude was running away, so Scooby had the excuse of trying to detain a criminal, like the good dog he is. Carl is like Joker and Penguin, stupid enough to get bamboozled, but at least the latter two had the excuse of not considering that Scooby would instead find their costumes appetizing (ignore the innuendo behind that joke, modern times are not a place for judgement of old times). Carl has no such excuse for how pathetically easy he was to beat, especially by a dog who’s known for his cowardice..
About the hatless black haired member in the control room at the beginning-we never saw him tied up or rescued. Unless at 42:22, the “Weather Eye 1 to base” guy is one of them, considering the uniform, but with brown hair.
26:18 …dead relative…maybe the real nasty doo?
Also, personal headcanon, the Zek in the Scooby Doo show is the same Zek in Scooby Doo, where are you.
Is it just me, or does the zombie’s face look like a butt? Maybe the growling are actually farts. Also, I bet it wouldn’t heart to add mechanical looks to the gorilla costume to at least fit in with the place.
It's not just you. Some of us see flesh-colored Cobra Commander, others see Butt Face. 😀
Someone really should rewrite the Globetrotters episode to better reflect continuity, using the dog mascot and bringing back CL Magnus as the villains scapegoat being framed.
I imagine plenty of Globetrotter cartoon fans at the time were confused or disappointed not to see Dribbles in the Scooby episodes. Though at least he and Granny showed up for that one scene where the animators clearly used cels of the team bus from the other show! Thanks for watching and commenting!
@@JoeGoesOver my pleasure happy to help the algorithm.
All hail the Mighty Algorithm! Kneel before its holy presence!
Just something interesting - at 33:08, the family tree shows that Warren Wilcox and Jane Putnam are married and have kids, but the lines above both the parents’ names seem to connect, which usually only happens when two people are siblings! I didn’t see anyone else mention it, but I wonder if the writers knew what they were doing 😅 Thanks for your great videos Joe! I love Scooby-Doo and watching your analysis videos always shows me little secrets that I missed or nonsensical ideas the writers had!
HAH! I think you're right! Woah! Good catch! Maybe her parents got rid of Charlene because she had like, webbed feet or a tail or something? Thank you for the kind words and for watching!
33:52 I REALLY want this to be an actual old man scooby quote as he reflects on that mystery!😂
It's a pity that Frank Welker isn't on Cameo. Then again, I doubt Warner Bros. would let him record that line as Scooby.
True
Fucking Carl the Stuntman
One of my odder online hobbies is collecting the "every state's" such-and-such or so-and-so places-to-eat list that MSN will announce. A recent one -- "The oldest restaurant in every state" by Business Insider -- names New York's oldest as the '76 House in Tappan, which advertises as part of its charm its presence during events of the Revolutionary War. Chief among them was that the building itself served as a prison for Major Andre until he as executed... hopefully not by food poisoning.
I have a side-gig now doing social media for a restaurant chain and I cannot tell you how triggering the words "food poisoning" have become to me. Thanks for watching, commenting and subscribing!
@@JoeGoesOver Whoops! Sorry 🙇!
😁
another similarity between the space kook and the ghost of the red baron is they both have pretty good scary/evil laughs respectively (space kooks shrieking scary laugh and red barons muahahaha evil laugh)
also I half-expected you to use the "it's chinatown" clip again when you brought up the henchmen from "mystery mask mix-up"
I was too appalled by the racism to focus on anything else!
I honestly don't get what you have against a pup named Scooby doo. I grew up watching it and I loved it.
As hypocritical as this sounds (and it is), despite asking people not to discount 'Be Cool' for its art style, my main gripe against 'Pup' is the animation. It was handled by Glen Kennedy and he is one of the worst things to happen to animation since studios began erasing cels to save money. The other issue I have is even as a kid, I never liked "kid" versions of cartoon characters. A ten-year-old can tell when they're being pandered to! Thanks for watching and commenting!
Its funny seeing you talk about not being able to respond to all the comments, but yet I always see you constantly responding to these comments!
I do try to respond to as many as possible, but comments on the older ones fall by the wayside and RUclips doesn't send me notifications for all of them, either.
For the town in To Switch a Witch, I wouldn't be surprised if they just sold off the property of someone they killed or driven off for witchcraft. They don't seem to follow any basic laws when they think witches are involved, only mentioning a legal system when the jig was up. So, I'd buy if the plan worked, and she had a claim to the property the town would just sell it to her.
The majority opinion in the comments is that Charlene would just be persecuted as a witch herself. Marley would probably turn the place into a bread and breakfast. He really was the REAL villain in the episode, anyway! Thanks for watching and commenting!
this series is SOOO underrated and slept on! it's still so funny but so scary too!! LOVEEEE
Rogers has the sane surname as Shaggy...an evil uncle for once?
That'd be hilarious, but it's really just that at this point in the franchise, Hanna-Barbera didn't have officially established surnames for any of the Gang. Thanks for watching and commenting!
when I watched the creeper episode as a kid, I completely missed the line where they say he can walk through walls, so I didn't know he was supposed to have any supernatural powers for most of the episode. That said, the opening scene did frighten me as a child He's just walking towards the camera... MENACINGLY!!
There's a reason zombies shuffle instead of stride!
The ghost witch of old salem terrified little me we had the VHS tape with Gramps the vamp on it as well, now I use her laugh as my Halloween ringtone.
Hah! My text notification is Rich Evans' laugh from Red Letter Media. It's hell during December when the Post Office sends me text notifications of package deliveries, though. Thanks for watching and commenting!
universal had done this premise in a 1927 film
Its obvious that "Joe Don't Know Jack Shit !" Noir could be another word for : when America was Great, Women were Women and Men glad of it. And we were all (FOC) Friends of Carlotta.
But yet, Mr McKnight said the town found Sarah Ravencroft's grave marker which is the reason they used her as the Witch's ghost
It's possible they dug up the marker without realizing it and only found it later in a pile of dirt. But yeah, that's a bit of an awkward bit of writing. Thanks for watching and commenting!
I meant from when you said that women accused of being witches not having graves when you didn't use that same logic for when McKnight said they found Sarah's grave marker
Ravencrofts house looks like Stephen kings house too lol
I'd expect to see more gables and widow's walks on King's real life mansion! Like, just a series of gables and widow's walks with maybe a bedroom or two attached to them! Thanks for watching, commenting and subscribing!
the pharmacist would probably profit from more tourists bringing in more money that the locals could spend at his pharmacy
Like I said in the video, only if he has a product that out-of-towners would need. I still like the idea of bringing back the old fashioned soda fountains. One of the only decent thing about the 1950s! Thanks for watching and commenting!
I just found out about this series and I simply can't wait to binge all of the episodes. This video is awesome dude.
Thank you so much for saying so! I really appreciate the kind words! They truly keep me motivated to keep producing these videos! Sadly, the past couple of months have tossed a bit of a monkey wrench into my goal of one video every other week, but I'm halfway done with the script for my next one and hopefully I can start filming once my out-of-town guests leave. I hope you stay with me! Thanks for watching!
Definitely one of the top 3 Scooby doo movies
Only if the first two are 'Zombie Island' and 'Witch's Ghost'! Thanks for watching and commenting!
@@JoeGoesOver zombie island definitely number 1, number 2 for me is the The alien invaders
33:51 You saying "F*cking Carl the Stunt Man" while doing a Scooby Impression is something I never thought I needed until you did it
Sadly, the only voice I'm reasonably capable of recreating is Cleveland from 'Family Guy', so it's not something that crops up often enough to impress people. Thanks for watching and commenting!
How far do you think you’ll go, cause i’d love to see you go over the villains of Mystery inc, and what’s new?
I would love to keep going indefinitely, so I would eventually get there. I used to wrack my brains trying to come up with ideas for videos for my channel, which is why I'd be lucky to get one out per month (or every other month). Now that everyone seems to like these Villain Rankings so much, I can concentrate on doing them and not having to worry about the subject! Thanks for watching and commenting!
I think Jekyll was planning to kill Shaggy when he was seemingly about to turn him into a toad. He'd make him drink a test tube filled with a mad science-y looking liquid that's actually just poison. If he succeeds it's the same as any other murder, but if Shaggy escapes he'd think that Hyde really could have turned him into a toad, something that a normal person couldn't do. That would definitely help to convince the superstitious meddling kid that Hyde was the real deal. If Hyde was stopped before he could kill Shaggy through a more conventional, the fact that he didn't follow through on the threat would prove that he's not really a mad scientist with superhuman intellect.
I suppose if that glass was filled with enough liquid LSD, Shaggy would have believed anything Jekyll would have told him!
The unexpected hee-licopter took me out
It NEVER gets old! 🤣 Thanks for watching and commenting!
