Great clip. Two towering giants of country music. One died much too young, victim of the demons in his life. The other, from the family of the earliest country music traditions, helped Johnny Cash find salvation from his demons and, together, they touched a whole generation with decades of great music. Thanks for sharing it.
To be fair, his demons came about mostly because of the pain with health issues. Spina bifida occulta can cause awful pain. Modern medicine could have potentially stopped his pain.
Love Hank Williams music. When I was 11 ( I’m 69 now) I swapped my Red Rider BB gun for my older brothers acoustic guitar from Sears and walked into town and picked up his guitar song book . I saw his picture on the cover and knew this guy was a Cowboy lol. The first song I learned was “ I Saw The Light “ and sang it in church the next Sunday. I still have that guitar and Hanks song book today !
oooow, i'd give all i own away to see ole hank williams perform live!! in the few years he's been famous he showed he had more tallent in his toenails than any of today's artists has in all his body. thanks for the musical tresure!!
Yeah he was something else..The talent for entertaining folks and songwriting literally oozed out of that mans body.. I don't think Evis would have been remembered in the same way as he is now if Hank would have lived. He was heading to the Rock side.. He was using electric Guitars and wanted to use drums... He already had the moves & Songs.. Only thing that he didn't have was Elvis' looks... Lol
Fascinating, what honest and amazing entertainment. Exposing the world to a rich and beautiful cultural heritage. Too bad this level of innocence is gone now. My dad was born and raised in the Ozark mountains and this is what he knew and loved. This is a part of our culture that has been lost and will probably never return, except in imitation.
Really? I didn't know that! It makes me upset. She deserved to be there years ago. Like the Judd's. What took them so, so long to give them that deserving award years ago?
June Carter was the best female country entertainer ever! She is so much fun to watch in these old shows. Hank Williams and The Drift'n Cowboys are still the best in country music.
I love seeing this old footage...I never appreciated this type of music as a kid when my grandparents listened to it. This was a time when people truly had talent and originality. This is part of my heritage and I'm glad that I've grown to like and appreciate it.
This is how I feel. I'm 23 years old, and 2 years ago I found a big ol' bin of my grandpa's old records, bunch of waylon, willie, Charlie Daniel's band, David Allen Coe, and other types of country vinyls were in it, I took it home and listened to Guy Clark "desperados waiting for a train" and I cried my eyes put haha. Had an overwhelming feeling as I spun it, thinking the last person to play it was my Grandpa who had passed before I really got to ever meet him. So I often thank Grandpa Dan for leaving behind these gems for someone to find haha, and am greatful that I happened to be the one to find em. Ever since falling down the country rabbit hole I still haven't got out of it haha
@@ro_dawg4720 How wonderful! He left you a historical and cultural archive. You could start up a RUclips channel playing these records for others to join you in that rabbit hole!

White with black notes, very visible on black&white T.V.s in those days!!! Hank was a first rate entertainer... He was the (Elvis) before Elvis was known!!! This is some rare foot. There are very few videos of Hank Williams, and when you add June Carter and Roy Acuff in the mix, it's priceless. Thanks for posting.
Didn't have media (politics wasn't televised) Still happy in TN, but the rest of the country likes to move here when they vote for anarchy. Good luck with all of y'all's problems. Don't come so it'll stay that way.
Yes, the Irish and Scots were the first major group to settle the southern regions of the US. They brought along their folk music and dances. Country music is the evolution from those early tunes. Listen to groups like the Chieftans and then listen to early... and I do mean EARLY country recordings, like the Carter Family and all... you'll hear the connection.
Definitely a HUGE influence, but not the only one! So much came from Black music of course. A lot of the early Carter family songs were sourced from Black songs.
I was definitely born a few generations late. All my friends laugh when I play Hank and then a few minutes later they are singing along and asking for a copy of the song.
June Carter had a flair for comedy as well as singing. And the bit with Hank Williams is just great. Not too much flim of him. This clip is precious. Thanks for posting.

Absolutely love the Carter family super awesome and I can't get enough of Hank Williams for decades I grew up on Hank Williams Carter family and many others!
I love this. Great to see people not afraid to entertain. This was the music for the common folk and it was really enjoyable. Thanks for putting in this clip!!! Did you notice that most of the guys had suits and ties? Those were the days of class. No hats but Cowboy hats, either.
Darryl, are you African American? I can't see your picture that well. I was born a Rogers. Just wondering. I am white- perhaps Irish roots, English and Germanic, too. Just asking.

Hank really was something else, wasn't he? Country music is an acquired taste - if you are not born into that tradition - and one, alas, that I have never quite acquired - but Hank lifts the genre to a whole different level. You can hear in his sings the early stirrings of rock n roll and he had that indefinable quality in his voice that we wuold later hear in Buddy's and Elvis'.
LOLOLOL!! Thanks so much for such a great clip. Hard to believe that is the same June Carter who always seemed the epitome of calm after she hooked up with Johnny Cash. She was obviously a lot more talented than I ever realized.
Johnny Cash's first wife was Vivian Liberto, they had 4 daughters, including Rosanne Cash. I can give you the story as it was told to me by my dear friend the late Jimmy Porter who was in the car that night (he was Hank's steel player) Jimmy recalled they were getting close to montgomery when Hank saw the familiar Montgomery search light, and he said "I know we're home I just saw the light" A few days later Hank had the song. Jimmy was a man who wouldn't tell a lie if his life depended on it. A true mentor to me with my steel playing. I miss you Jimmy ole Buddy.......

Another one of Hank Williams songs I grew up with after love sick blues. This was country when it was real country. How could you not love this kind of music and entertainment. Even if you're not in such a great mood it puts you in a good mood. These people are fantastic all-time greats.

Will never understand why June is overlooked for the Country Music Hall of Fame!! Truly one of the greats.
Probably due to her less attractive singing voice lol
But I wonder if she felt embarrassed on her actions when she was young?

Because she was a horrible singer

I watch this at least a couple of times a week. It's a real lifter. June seemed such a naturally funny lady.....and so sweet.
June Carter thought of herself as more of a comedian than a singer early in her career.
Love this video!! Ol Hank had moves way ahead of his time lol. Nice to see Billy Byrd on guitar too.
