    Very nice save for the air cleaner, no front fender, and gas tank decal, for classic looks and performance nothing beats the old classic oval air cleaner, the old Sportster tank decals or the gold bar & shield decals, and for a street bike a front fender is mandatory!

    • @709cycles

      you didn’t see the lights, mirror, and license plate on it? it’s fully street legal. turn signals required in California on 1973 and later but I wouldn’t put them on this bike longer than it took to get the ticket signed off if it needed them.

    It's all '72 parts. The rocker housings were filled and radiused. The primary cover was milled and the center filled and smoothed. Cam cover was cut and modified. That's the point of being custom. Every piece of that bike was touched. I can see where it would be confusing.

    I'm not really into the "bobber" look, but that's a nice bike. I really live old Ironheads. Wish I could get my hands on one. I see a cross between a Chopper and a Pro-Street bike, i.e. if you could combine those two styles somehow.

  • @tstephanwilliams

    I am a Sportster fanatic, and have owned dozens of K's, Ironheads and Evos. I do very similar builds to yours, stripped down, lightweight, flattrack inspired Sportsters. Is there a way to purchase one of your oil tanks and/or one of your rear frame sections? Thanks in advance. T in K.C.

  • @709cycles
    @709cycles  9 лет назад

    Hmnn. Last year of right side shift was '74 I believe .Your motor # ends with H8 ?
    I guess you wouldn't be the first guy to have a bunch of mixed up parts in a sporty basket case. I can't imagine why it would have good factory '78 numbers and be a right side shift. Let me think about that. And for Terry in KC. Sorry, but I'm just not setup to build the oil tanks and frame sections to sell. Just a really small operation here. Maybe in the future though.

    Nice bike I'm working on a sporty myself with rear disk brake how did you do the master cylinder?

    • @709cycles
      @709cycles  2 года назад +1

      We used a remote reservoir master off a Ducati I believe. It’s probably the same as all of the honda yamaha suzuki ones. You can see the white reservoir with the hose under the oil tank. Used the stock pedal and cross shaft and mounted the master vertically on the right side of the frame tomahawks.

    I'v got a 73 xlch I'm doing right now. I want to do disk instead of the stock drum. how difficult was it to convert it to disk brake?

    • @709cycles
      @709cycles  7 лет назад +1

      It would depend on your fabrication skills. We used the stock pedal and linkage and mounted a remote reservoir master cylinder to the frame under the oil tank.
      Spool hub wheel with matching rotor and fabricated axle and spacers and caliper bracket among other parts.

    • @inswain911
      @inswain911 7 лет назад

      709cycles thanks for the response. I'm a welder fabricator by trade so I'm fairly sure I can do it I'm just trying to figure the best way. was thinking of a sprotor set up to keep it compact. what size front and rear are you running? thanks again. BTW the bike is sweet. I'll be posting the whole build starting in the next couple weeks. just waiting on a few more parts
