      I enjoyed the hell out of this video and I'm not a Marine nor a US Navy Submariner, just a grateful civilian. Thanks to both of these "elite" groups, neither of which I am equipped to do.

    The First Sergeant at 1:25 was a drill instructor at Charlie Company on 2004. He told his new Marines that he would not stick around when they graduated to shake hands. True to his word....he left. Lol. Real nice guy, but like many of the highly enlisted Marines, there is always a story. Oorah 5th Marines.

    The 2nd Infantry Division of the US Army were commanded twice by Marine Generals during WWI. BG. Charles Doyen and MG. John Lejeune. The 2nd Infantry Division had Army infantry regiments and Marine infantry regiments that fought some hard battles in France. The Division was awarded the French Fourragere. The Army's version is more red than green than the Marines. The one that the Army wears is the WWII version awarded to the 82nd Airborne Division, 2nd Infantry Division, 3rd Infantry Division and other US Army divisions that fought in France for the second time. These were unit awards for infantry, artillery, and some combat engineer units in those divisions. I have mine from my service in the 1/508th Parachute Infantry Regiment which was in the 82nd Airborne Division as a regimental award.

    I served in A Co. 1st Batt. 6th Marines from Oct. 1960 to Dec. 1962 as a Rifleman and a Fire Team Leader. I wore the French Fourragere AKA the Pogy Rope. I extended for 21 months to get into Aviation ( Avionics Technician- 6611 ). Yeah, I ended up in Viet Nam at Chu Lai at the beginning ( May 1965 ) Hey, I never did like Ground Pounding.

    Foxtrot Co., 2nd Battalion, 5th Marines was my first unit assignment following recruit training and advanced infantry training with ITR back in 1965. I landed in Vietnam with F-2/5 on 12 April, 1966 in a wetnet landing (using landing craft called "poppa boats") off a troop transport, APA 237-USS Bexar. Oh such fun.... (not). Good outfit!
    Have had words with other Marines in the past at times when they made light of the French Fourragere (aka "the pogey rope") while never having served with the 5th or 6th Marines. They didn't understand why I was so upset about their cheap jokes, and we almost came to knuckles about it. That was MY outfit, and you don't trash it or the Fourragere we wore.

    • @johnwayne2103
      @johnwayne2103 8 лет назад +8

      Dress Blues is a Ceremonial Uniform. The green dress uniform is for official duties like reporting in to your unit, working at official gov installations or inspections. Dress Blues are used for celebrations like the Marine Corps Birthday however you can also wear the Green Uniform since the Dress Blues were not issued you had to purchase them. If you were the Honor graduate you were issued a set of Dress Blues.
      I believe that has changed and now all Marines are issued Dress Blues and they are the Uniform for Graduation from Marine Corps boot camp.
      The 8th and I Silent drill team uses the Dress Blue uniform to perform in since it is both Ceremonial and it's a recruiting tool. It's also a goodwill gesture.
      Recruiters also use the Dress Blues Uniform since it's a recruiting tool.
      The Red background with the green rank is only used on the Green uniform. The Red background with the Gold rank is only used on the dress blues. There is no difference in ranks it just makes it stand out more.

    Un Vrai Bijou qui n'est pas donné à tout le monde, certaines personnes peuvent la porter à titre individuel dans les cérémonies officielles, même en quittant l'unité il faut être Brave et Brillant et Chanceux également. Ceux qui avancent avec les moyens dont ils disposent, qui n'acceptent pas l'échec, il faut avoir la conviction et la volonté avant les armes. Je pense que c'est une Fourragère de CROIX DE GUERRE (Vert/Rouge). Respect./.

    I appreciate this. But I do wonder: is it a response to Trump's remarks last summer when the US delegation went to Aisne-Marne Cemetery to honor Belleau Wood soldiers......

    That’s so gay. That’s what US Soldiers wear. Stop that shit. I leave the marine corps and it all goes to shit. What I love about the corps is the uniform doesn’t have a lot of unnecessary ornamentation that separates the other. They do the best job in showing oneness.

    Dang, they didn't have that when I was in the unit. You check in and they just toss you a bag with it inside of it and then tell you to go f off. This is total propaganda. They don't do things like this at all. 2007-2015
