Hiking Kanarra Falls has been on our list ever since we first read about it after moving to Utah. This hike was absolutely beautiful yet completely stressful due to the crazy ladders that we had to climb. Have you ever hiked somewhere like this? Somewhere that pushed your limits but was it totally worth it? Let us know in the comments below.
Just did this hike. One recommendation would be to get neoprene socks under water shoes so your feet doesn’t freeze. The water is extremely COLD. We also did see a snake, no rattle. That freaked us out, just waited for it to leave the path.
We used Merino wool socks for most of the water hikes while in the St. George area. Merino wool is not waterproof but it does amazingly well at keeping your feet from freezing. Your feet do still get cold but they dry quickly as soon as you leave the water. Neoprene is definitely the way to go towards the winter months though.
Hey guys, thanks for the video! Great job! My wife and I are going to do this hike in early October. I was planning on wearing my Mid Merrill Moab’s with merino wool socks. We’ve never hiked in water that deep, so I’m hoping they’ll do the trick keeping the feet warm enough. Do you recommend trekking poles?
Thank you for watching and commenting! That should be pretty similar conditions that we experienced since it's basically the same date/time. You should be good with the Moab's and merino wool socks. Warm enough until the sun goes down, that's when it will get chilly if you are still out. I don't think either of us used the trekking poles while there, but we did take them. I'd say you are good without them, unless the water is deeper then it might be helpful. I know we preferred the poles for The Narrow and The Subway. The Narrows because it was deep and slippery and The Subway because it was super slick in two parts. The deep and slippery aspect doesn't really apply to Kanarra so that is why I say you don't necessarily need them. Let us know how your hike goes!!
@@KeithandLindsey , Thanks! I appreciate the quick response. That will help a lot. We usually don’t use the poles unless it seems prudent. I’ll let you know how it goes. I might even make my own video if I remember to charge my GoPro batteries!😉
Ha! So true. That was quite a challenging hike. I so want to go to Solitude Mountain Resort's opening day this Friday. If I had received my ACL brace I probably would go. I am still a little too nervous to ski without it though. I should have it in a couple of weeks.
Thanks for watching and commenting! I was glad we had watched enough videos so we recognized the slide... barely! Have you done this hike or do you plan to? It was one of the most amazing hikes we've ever done.
@@KeithandLindsey You gave me inspiration and ideas on where to go. I am always looking to find a new place to discover. Thank you. I will have to watch more of your videos. Oh and great job in climbing after the ACL thing. My knees are not that great so it was nice to see you guys climb those ladders.
Hey Keith and Lindsey...just found your channel. I am stoked about your vibe and adventurous spirit. I start my next adventure in 2020 as I thru-hike and v-logg the Appalachian Trail. I just joined your channel and will look for more.
@@kampersadventures958 Will the AT be your first thru-hike? I can't imagine being on a trail for that long. The longest I have been out in the backcountry was 5 days in the Wind River Range, Wyoming. I think I could handle the backcountry for a few weeks at a time but months on the trail takes it to another level.
@@KeithandLindsey LOL. You are so right...Months, compared to days is a whole new level. Even though the A.T. is the toughest of the "Big Three"...it passes or comes through a town about every 4-5 days, so convince of resupply, laundry and showers is nice.
@Sam Adams It took us approximately 3 hours. We did take photos, chatted with other hikers, played on the slides, etc. We did this in the evening so we were conscious of the time it would be getting dark. We arrived back at the car approximately 3 hours after we started and it was just dark then so it worked out perfectly! We actually enjoyed the hike later in the day because there weren't many people on the trail at that time. Are you planning to hike it soon? It's absolutely gorgeous!
Thank u for sharing your adventure. Will be in kanarra this July 26th. I’m very much excited but when I saw you guys having a hard time getting up and getting down makes me scared now! My wife is scared of heights😭😭😭
@ VEGAS etc Hey! I just now saw this comment!! How was your hike? You probably didn't have as much trouble with the ladders as I did (Lindsey). I was a BIG scaredy cat!!! It totally overreacted 🤦♀️ I didn't realize it was that tall and that it would sway a little! I also assumed the rungs were wooden so they felt slippery to me. What were the condition like in July?
Yes, you can walk in the water the majority of the time or choose the path along the bank. You are asked to stay on the trail where others have been as to not disrupt the natural vegetation. We found it pretty easy to see the trail as we did not walk in the water the entire way. You will truly enjoy this trail!
You will absolutely love it! The first ladder is definitely the scariest due to the height. Just take your time and keep close to the ladder and you will be fine. The rest of the ladders are a little more tricky to get up and down but the consequences are far less so they aren't nearly as scary. While you are in the area, if you have some time for a nice backroad drive, you should check out the Kolob Plateau route that we drove (ruclips.net/video/1Om-0VMNPGM/видео.html). The drive starts on the Southern end of Cedar City and takes you south back through the Kolob section of Zion NP. The drive is truly stunning! You can find route details on the All Trails app (www.alltrails.com/trail/us/utah/kolob-reservoir-road). Have a great trip!
This is great! I'm going to be in Vegas later this summer for a conference and am planning on staying a few extra days to check out Zion and have this on my list. What time of day did you guys go and was it very crowded? I know only 150 permits per day, but didn't know if you all encountered very many people or not.
You will love it, it's amazing!! We did this hike on a weekday in September after Keith got off work, his workday ends around 3pm. It was not crowded at all. We saw probably 5-6 groups of people, mainly couples. Not sure if you saw our blog post, but it might be helpful :) keithandlindsey.com/kanarraville-falls-hike/ You'll have to let us know about your hike! Do you have other plans for the area? I have several more blog posts/ videos that I haven't created yet. I may have some insight or could answer questions about other activities too.
