Everyone is saying that Missy is turning into Mary, but no... Instead of just doing everything and being passively bitter about it, she is getting everyone to participate in the daily running the house, communicating her frustrations, boundaries, and need for appreciation in a not too heavy way early on. She talked to Georgie privately about her burden and then quickly tried a different method while remaining responsible. More sensible division of labour, no bottled-up frustration, generally more collaborative family dynamic. It's all much healthier and more sustainable in the long term. She's doing so well, a confident leader, and I feel proud of her character!
It’s interesting that as the “man of the house” George was okay with Missy, the child, running things. I know this is around 30 years ago but it’s interesting to see the division of household labor expected from girls/women
40 years ago, when i was twelve, my mother died. She was a housewife. My father expected me to do all her chores. Nobody ever showed me how to do it, my mother was very good and organised at it, and she did not ask me to help, so i did not know how to do it. Turns out without instructions of any kind i was not able to keep a house and a garden in order and cook meals. When he noticed that i did not manage it all, he hired a cleaning women for once a weak. She was instructed to only do his stuff und never go into my room or clean my things. Since i could not cook i lived from sweets and fast food and noodles for some years until i managed cooking. I never had anything to eat for the last days of the month because i did not learn how to budget for a month. Until his death he has never touched a vacuum or cleaned a dish or cleaned a toilet or cooked a meal. Until this day i still have a deep dislike for all household chores and can not bring myself to do them. I either hire a cleaningwoman or i live in dirt. Not because i want to, i like a clean and neat home. But i can not bring myself to do this things. I do only laundry and cooking and cleaning kitchen and bathroom, all the other things have to be done by the cleaning woman because i have an inner barrier to do them. Until this day i resent him for what he did to me.

I love this show and I know it’s fiction - made up characters, not real, never happened, not true - I understand that. But having grown up in a pretty fundamentalist Christian household where we always prayed before meals (and yes, we held hands) the person who cooked the food would NEVER have asked God to “bless the hands that prepared it,” because that would have been asking God to bless THEM. If someone other than the cook(s) was asking the blessing, that’s when we would hear “bless the hands that prepared” the food, and that was nearly always part of the prayer in that case. Just a little something that always jumps out at me. Carry on.
I think that's part of the joke. Everyone does feel a bit cringe that Mary is semi-openly asking for acknowledgement and blessing, which can appear quite self-centred. At the same time, she is actually doing all that work and the rest who enjoys the fruit of her labour thinks that she doesn't deserve the blessing. Mary does devote all her energy to her family (which admittedly is not the most beneficial to them) and this is her act of rebellion, the very rare times she puts herself first. She knows that this line is not well received but she says it anyway. I respect that.
