How much money did youtube pay us for 1 million video views?!

- We're going to share just how much money RUclips paid us for 1 million RUclips video views, (One million!!)
But more than just that, we'd like to share with you exactly how we manage to make enough money to head off on the sailing adventure of a lifetime. How do two regular people, who both worked manual jobs, with no university education, manage to pack up the rat race and live a life a little less ordinary? Well, today you can. find out.

We hope you're all s safe and well during this crazy Covid. moment in time.
Don't forget you have pretty good video making skills that you can offer. I would think that quite a few yachties would love a good video of their pride and joy under full sail. Keep up the good work.
Excellent idea, and yaght sales may want videos for their websites?
That is a bloody good idea. A lot of people would take an offer like that up; they don't want to get their own drone and to hire a 'drone' company would probably cost a fortune. any harbour you visit would be full of potential customers. Get some business cards printed Dom!
I completely agree one of my favorite channels.
Dom, give some thought to offering courses on your filming and drone skills. It’s easy to film but the way you bring it altogether with the editing is one of the best on the RUclips sailing channels.
I would agree Tony bought not only that your presentation skills are way beyond many professionals currently on TV. You are a born natural and ought to be snapped up for chats shows through to documentaries.
That is also my opinion. Dom is brilliant at presenting, adding to the other skills of filming and drone flying courses could be a earner. I watch a guy called High Peak Autos who has just raised a course on how to sell cars from his you tube channel.
Tony & Susan here, we are in Michigan and do watch about 15 sailing channels every week. What can I say its winter here. And we have jobs for another 18 months. We are subscribing to your channel but in order to do that two things must happen, 1. You must recognize we exist. 2. We must scrub someone from our watch list, so you had better be funny and charming. Haha
Hey nice to meet you. We can certainly relate to that feeling of having a jobs list that feels like it’ll take 18 months to get through. At the moment each job ends up revealing several more that need our attention.
Ah the joys of owning a nearly 40yr old boat 🤣
About 1½ year later, you have 3M+ views, which is amazing! So the first million took 1½ years, but then you doubled the pace! Still, it isn’t much YT is paying, it’s a shame, but I’m glad to see my two fav sailors doing increasingly well ❤️.
It’s a funny old thing, this algorithm, we went though a patch last year of getting almost no views or new subs, then I analysed some data/ patterns and tested what I thought I saw with videos that did well vs ones that didn’t, made a few changes and then RUclips started being our friend again, ha ha, until the next update no doubt 😂
Thanks for another gem. Transparency over money and logistics add to your appeal and credibility. By coincidence, for the last few months I have been looking carefully at a cruising yacht very close ☘️ to your mooring. Lockdown is preventing buyers to view-in-person, although one professional surveyor is an allowed activity. Good health and best wishes to you both.
Thanks for the insight. We’ve been making videos, and this was interesting to see.
We also only got back in the water a couple of weeks ago, currently a few hundred meters up river at Ocean Quay.
Thanks for the honest money reveal! As a RUclips creator, it's very hard in the beginning to see what might be possible. Best of luck to you three. If you're ever in the south-west of Ireland, do give a heads-up.
You vids keep getting better and better. Keep up the great work.
Cheers, Rich, glad they're not too hard to watch 😁
😆 Haha.. everyone's just gone to bed - thrown RUclips on the TV and poured myself a whiskey... ready to your latest installment. 🥃 📺
Then cheers to that 🥃
Then cheers to that 🥃
Look how far you have come from sourcing a boat until now, Its been a great journey and I have enjoyed watching you. Great idea with the ropes too.
Thanks for being so honest about RUclips and how you survive living on a boat. Carly the dog leads look amazing. Stay safe Steve
Thank you, we’ll do our best and same to you 😁
Love your door Hardwere fiddles on the table, we use the same. Thanks for your efforts, really enjoyable.
Just found your channel. I appreciate how real and upfront you are. Fair winds to you.
Cheers William, maybe it’ll give others an idea of realistic expectations when pursuing a life afloat, you know, people who aren’t keyboard jockeys (and I mean that in a positive way, I wish I was a keyboard jockey 😂)
I personally think your success comes from the brutal honesty that your sailing/boat knowledge is limited and you are not afraid to say so - a great quality. Now Hank is another topic .......... he's so dammed adorable (like his owners) so it got me thinking of getting a Hank ............. HOW MUCH ?????? ........ unfortunately the bank wouldn't give me another mortgage. So do you make those rigid leads Carly .......... the one's where I can attach a rigid collar and pretend to take my very own invisible Hank for "walkies" twice a day ...........(the men in white coats are coming soon).
Great videos and content guys ......... keep up the good work and watch your subscribers double this year.
Love to Hank ❤️
Cheers, Martin. Yes it's true that Hank isn't the cheapest breed of dog to buy in the world, and on many levels you can make the moral argument that a rescue dog from a shelter is the right thing to do if you want a dog, but I fell in love with the breed from the very day I first came across them, and when I was a kid, we used to have a Great Dane as our family pet, which I also adored, and to me, Hank is like a miniature version of a Dane, so it's a double pull at my heart strings. 😬😬
Appreciate the up front honesty……
That's not bad at all! Using the back ground music you like brings you down to 68 euro per million views in our experience which translates to about half a euro on average per video, still paying a couple of cents per hour of editing. Good thing we love making and rewatching the videos!
Stumbled across your video and channel, very refreshing! New subscriber here, expat uk living in Canada and missing the sea and sailing.
Have a good New Year Guy's and happy Sailing..
Thanks Malcolm, and to you too, hopefully we’ll be able to get out and about this year, although things are not looking too promising here right now for the possibility of much movement, but we’re keeping our fingers and toes crossed 🤞🏼
@@CadohaAdventures I am dreaming of owning a yacht...if my numbers come in I will buy a Bavaria C57....(in my dreams...Lol) this has very nearly put me off mind..ruclips.net/video/YoOxRHmYes4/видео.html
Love the dog leads and bracelets. Just an idea - if you can find some old copper tubing you could use the large electrical crimp to fasten some of the ropes together. I thought of it because those crimps are not cheap so it can help justify the purchase and I've seen a similar idea on some etsy type stuff in the past. Cheers!
Well done Sir and Lady. For others, never forget too that a penny saved is a penny earned. Learning DIY skills and investing in good tools has saved me a load. Ebay too whilst I am land based, has enabled me to find low use items and save a bunch. Buy non branded or last years model. RUclips for learning how to do stuff is a godsend.
I just love yalls channel. Thanks for taking me along.
Post cards and pen pals really take it to a next level with your relationship with viewers. I’ve done a bit of fund raising and a paper component, ie mailings, always brings surprisingly good increases, not to mention the human interface. “All my needs will always be met.” A good affirmation!
Thanks for sharing the info. Great video, great advice. Be frugal and enjoy life. Cheers from Akron, Ohio
No problem, hope you’re keeping well over on your side of the pond, Joyce. 🤞🏼⛵️
Duh ,found it .
Have also just subscribed to your patreon ,. Have really enjoyed your videos over the summer . Spring will soon be hear and we can all be allowed go out to play on our boats again .
Previous comment by Rob about offering Videos to rich yachties should be an excellent money spinner ,yours are brilliant .
Enjoyed your vid And just subscribed. I look forward to many more.
Thanks, glad to have you onboard. Hope you’re keeping well in these crazy times 🤞🏼⛵️
First time seeing your channel
I have subscribed based on your very down to earth approach to open ended cruising
Hi
Love the vides guy well done, just ordered a lead for my dog, Keep up the great adventures 👌🏻👌🏻👌🏻👌🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
That's amazing! Thank you. I'm sure Carly will be busy later, crafting your new lead 😁😁😁
Hope you're keeping well 🙏🏻
Nice one guys. Dyslexia is not a barrier, it's a challenge you can overcome given a teacher that has the right skills. Thinking differently is a gift. Sail Safe Guys, Ant, Cid & the pooch crew.
Such a charming and engaging couple, and great content, filming and editing. Really enjoy spending time watching your videos, many thanks. Subbed.
Another great bloke next door video guys
We just completed on the purchase of our warrior 40 so hope to bump into you guys one day when you take the plunge and float out to the Med !!! Fair winds to you all
Another cracking video, let me know when the quick release pull lead is ready and will send some money! Excited for that! 😅👌🏼🤘🏼
Cheers, Chris, and yes, Carly is still trying to work out the finer details of such a lead 😉😄
Another great video, me an my son scrapped the hull on our yacht this year..... and the thought of doing it again scares the life out of us lol
Great video mate, love the sense of humour! Come on subscribers!!
Woah! congratulations on the million views to you all! just deserved IMHO now to watch ..
..... have heard that YT also adjusts what it pays and that is not in the favor of the creators ... great that you are so handy and can take on the task allotted, definitely a good trait to have ... brilliant idea to set up Carly's etsy market .. upcycling, way to go .... like the sparkle lights you have up in your saloon ... thx for the eyeopener as to youtube earnings .... great share .... as always .. never stop dreaming, just dream bigger .. have fun be safe, save our oceans .....
I find dyslexics are generally the friendliest people. We learn that skill in school as children. We off set poor grades with popularity. One mans trash is Carly’s treasure. That’s a great idea. One thing I’ve learned in business, if you charge a cheap price people assume it’s a cheap product. It’s crazy. I would think learning how to varnish...if you like it, could be a great source of revenue during the winter. 👍👍✌️✌️
Ha ha, if you’re describing Carly I’d say you’re spot on, I think I’m more 50/50, but trying to get better with age 😂😬🤞🏼
You guys are so genuine, should be called HMS Resourceful. Great idea with the old ropes and I’m sure with Carly’s creative skills you will find many more ways to make a crust. Best wishes and here’s to some great sailing in 2021. Andy U.K.
Great stuff, you two! Here's wishing you a safe, adventurous and happy 2021.. with FAR fewer hulls to scrape! Love all your videos and hearing/seeing what you get up to. Amazing work, too, Carly!
The merchandise looks great so I’ll be ordering soon. 👍
Very cool and inspiring video! I'm also a sailing youtuber living aboard in the winter! And yes I too have a job! I'm a unionized cinematographer. Most days the film industry pays me to shoot videos! Then I go home and do them for free here on you tube. Maybe one day I'll make a few pennies off youtube! Just a dream but seeing this inspires me!
Nice to be updated 👍🙂
Ordered a collar! Thanks!
Great you guys are doing so well
Happy new year both of you. xxxxx
Cheers Andy, happy mew year to you too. 🍾
You two are incredible, keep up the adventures!
Creative as usual guys, keep em coming.
Will do. Hope you’re keeping well.
This video came up in my feed, I like this guys personality. Might watch some more of them. Love the upcycling! Hope you sell lots!
I did see a video awhile ago on this subject, the guy said he got the same amount for 1 million views. I read some article that said you make $7000 for a million views, guess that is bs (also the author didn't have a yt channel).
All the best! Safe travels x
Hi Guys,
Great video as usual.
Just a couple of ideas using your video skills , A program i used to watch was called Ordinary People, the interviewer would approach people in the street shopping centres what ever and ask simple questions and see where it leads, people were eager to tell all. Another one was The Waiting Room, a guy just like your self was in the foyer of a major hospital asking people casual questions,
like are you visiting a friend or family member and people would open up. Only very short interviews . Someone like your self or Carly who have people skills could do this.
Just an idea. Take care.
Entertaining stuff. Subscribed!
Carly, Do you make leashes in Dynema for people wth Great Danes and Mastiffs? Can you make them 50' long so I can hook up my two dogs to tow me along through the French Canals? ;) You do a GREAT job! Does Hank contribute to the cruising kitty? You could have him sit up on the bow in a marina with a sign on him and a bucket: Petting-1 quid/minute! Good haircut, Dom! You're tolerable again. Your videos are great entertainment! You have the magic touch! Everything you touch turns to ginger! :)
Ha ha, glad to hear I’m tolerable once more 🤣
We do actually have some fairly big lines at the moment so I imagine we could knock something up big enough for a Great Dane!
I actually used to have a Great Dane when I was younger, such awesome dogs, although the postman used to leave the mail at the gate and never walked it up to the house 😂
ahhh subscribed looking forward to follow you guys
Hey Rob, nice to have you on board. Hope you’re keeping well through all of this craziness. 🍻👌
@@CadohaAdventures clearly watching too much you tube lol
Aye m8’s, nice to see you’re finding your way. Upcycling is a fitting expression. Do you make leashes with mooring compensators as well?
Love your honesty. A breath of fresh air!
Great channel, great laughs!
Cheers, Jimmy. Hope you’re keeping well. 🤞🏼⛵️
Great Video. I love your passion. Wish you both (and Hank) all the best for 2021
Love it, a smart doggy lead/accessory concept indeed, more upcycling please, awesome. I am thinking; live aboard a classic boat and rent it out for filming, must be some, maybe an option for you, even if you do not sail a classic, what you think?
Not a boatload of money but I'll tell you guys that I've enjoyed the hell out of your videos. But seriously, where are you hiding the real star, Hank?!?!?
He’s busy producing something of his own, ha. Glad you enjoyed the videos and hope you’re keeping well 🤞🏼
great idea to REDUCE, REUSE and RECYCLE ! Good luck with you business. - - better to do that than _try_ to get money from youtube.
The boat has really shown us just how much less (stuff) we actually need. In fact we could probably live comfortably on even less, if we tried.
I thought that was the Itchen bridge in the background. We live in Soton, nice to see a boat video in our backyard! Good video (first time watcher).
Hi Dom, just found your channel and subscribed followed by a week of binge watching to catch up, still have more to view but thought I would comment to help out with a suggestion or two, I agree with one of your top 5 sailing presentations, Chris from Sailing Britaly is son good, and informative plus he is so upbeat and energetic. Very inspiring. I'll take a look at your others but have you found 'Odd Life Crafting', Duca and Roberta have over the series renovated their 44ft sailboat in Brazil. Again very detailed and upbeat. They in turn have suggested their friends to start a channel called 'Sailing Yaba' very interesting as Ben and MP buy a wooden schooner and have the keel replaced. Keep up the good vids and well done both of you for well balanced content
Ha there’s a couple in there that I’d never heard of, so thanks for that, always love seeing how others take on this kind of life and it’s always been a way of discovering some good ideas too 😁😁⛵️⛵️
Interesting video thank for sharing all the best for 2021 and keep safe 👍
As always loved it.
Glad you enjoyed it. 😬
You guys are amazing
I love the recycling ideas, they look very professional
The way you present your channel is so natural,
Look forward to your new episodes
Great video! 👏🏻👏🏻
Thanks, June 😁
Good luck for 2021 ⛵
Thank you, to you too, in fact fingers crossed for all of us that it’s better than last year 🤞🏼🤞🏼⛵️

That's what, about $10 or $11 cpm? That's really good, indicates you're getting good quality advertisers. Means your videos are considered high quality with good viewer retention! Not bad at all for being a "small" channel (compared to the likes of la vagabonde or delos). Keep it up! May the algorithm bless you! lol.
its quite literally good money for old rope! And it is a brilliant idea :)
I like y’all’s videos. They are always fun. Keep up the great work. BTW where was Hank?
they found him a part time job !!
He's been working on his very own video, almost without any humans to cramp his style 😁
I bit of hard graft goes a long way, fair play to ya both.
Well done Hank for keeping them on track ,I expect your in the sunshine some where as dogs are not on lock down ,spending your share , there seems to be a lack of routine Hank as one is very ruminate and rummaging through containers picking up bits of rope and the other has tied a lot of knots in them .They could be nest building ready for the cuckoo to fly over and waiting for the tide to turn . Hurry back Hank as the routine of taking you for a walk ,I,m sure will get them settled again ,thank them for the wonderful trips they have taken us, all on and wish them A GREAT NEW YEAR . Income tax , surely not ,it,s a charity run for the purpose of mental heath for those soles on lock down . Their doing their bit to help ,ttfn
Really enjoy your videos and the delivery. Very natural. You sure you were building garden fences and not working as a TV presenter? ;-) What are the plans for 2021
I'd echo the comments about boat owners wanting video or pictures of their boats. Very hard to get and you could make a nice return that way
Ha ha, very kind of you to say, and it's amazing how well you can come across on camera for a few minutes, when you have a whole week to film, edit and pepper in a decent amount of jump cuts to hide the umming and arrrrring. 😁😁
Glad you enjoy the vids and hope you're keeping well. 🍻🙏🏻🙏🏻
It depends on which countries, what audience is watching so 1 million views could be 7000 pounds of 200 pounds or anywhere between. Great video thanks for sharing :)
I have heard that it can be 7,000 per 1 million, do you know where to some accurate information regarding it, and what countries pay what? My husband and I think we have a good idea for a channel, we are in Brazil.
Hey guys great to see your enterprising ideas. Just a thought with regards to your dog leads Carly. I too have made leads for our dogs, although nowhere near as fancy as yours, and like you used a snap shackle about the same size you use. My dogs are mid sized terriers and I found the shackles were too heavy for the dogs and caused some distress and irritation so I switched to a much smaller shackle, the size you would use on a sailing dinghy. Shackles this size are far cheaper to buy, more in keeping size wise looking and far stronger than you will ever need. Perhaps something you might want to look at. Cheers from a sailor in New Zealand.
Well done you guys, we managed to get to south Brittany the boat is still there but were back in UK.
What was that washing machine you had ?
Cheers.
Glad to hear you made it further than us, hopefully you won’t be apart form your boat for too long 🤞🏼🤞🏼⛵️

Living the dream ain't easy. Keep plugging on and you'll be OK. Normal is just a bit meh!
Just playing the hands we were dealt the best we can. Hope you’re keeping well 🍻
Where did u get the portable washer..love it..
I hope 2021 is kind to you both (3), I remember travelling on a minibus from the airstrip in Shetlands to Lerwick, not seeing a single tree on the windswept Isle, but dotted all along were various small houses, I remember thinking, these are not all farmers, what on earth do they do for a living? Well, having worked in West Africa, South America, Europe, UK, Canada, India, Middle East, how many times do you think that same thought came up? Dozens! The answer? Well you already know the answer because your already making a successful crack at it. The answer is that necessity is the mother of all invention, but I'd add something to that, and that's humility, which you both have, it can be seen in some of your mannerisms and subtle comments, it's a very good thing and one to keep tight hold of, hardwork, enthusiasm, friendliness, optimism and humility will always keep you employed or scraping by, but believe it or not scraping by is a good thing, because hope builds endurance. Quite a deep comment from me today rather than banter but hopefully it's a word of encouragement that no matter how difficult things get you still have good qualities on your side. Fair winds and good health 👍
Appreciate it, Ray, and you know in light of the global situation we all face right now, the truth is that we are not all affected the same, and in the grand scheme of hands that could have been dealt, we're pretty lucky and I think we both know it.
Hope you're keeping well. 🍻
@@CadohaAdventures Yes me my wife and black Lab are doing well thanks. Your dead right and unfortunately without getting political because I am strictly politically neutral it's clear that globally policy makers have made a right pigs ear of things, which was based mainly on economic pressures and wishful thinking. Do you ever watch Dr Campbell? He's an independent health consultant here in UK, he's often been called by News outlets to report his views/findings, he discussed this link last week health-infobase.canada.ca/covid-19/international/ it's a great up to date overview of global cases. One only needs to hover over a country to see the recent steep upturn in cases just like here in UK. There's also another new concerning variant emerged in Brazil reported in last few days. So despite wishful thinking and idiotic virus spreading behaviour in our country it's clear that we are nowhere near at seeing an end to this, in fact it's worse right now than at the initial peak, the only difference being there will be a measure of better understanding of it and how it's managed. And then there's the three vaccines? Time will tell on those, but one concern on variants is them being able to bypass our immune response (public health England comments yesterday) I'm not planning on there being a normal season and spoke to harbour master yesterday, it's not looking good right now for our boats to be lifted in come April. Which frankly is not important in the big scheme of things. What is important is taking it seriously, staying safe, planning for the worse but hoping for the best.....damn I can ramble on 🤣👍
What a great idea with the dog leads, you should also look at making belts and what are those wrist band things the youth have these days
Carly is delightful. If I had a dog I would buy a leash. Speaking of dogs, where's Hank?
So that leash has a SWL for at least a 3000kg dog I see... ;-)
Hahahahahahahah!!! Hilarious! Did you account for the 5:1 shock load?
Ah, money for old rope! (Now that’s got to have been said already, but I’m really too lazy to check.)
I watch a number of sailing channels and while none of them have come right out and said it patreon is where they get their money. RUclips alone isn't enough unless your channel is huge, a handful of generous patreons can push you up to where you need to be. But it takes time, no one should expect to make anything worth counting on for at least a year and a half.
There is a photographer who has a video I saw that did come right out and say that. He said forget about getting a million subscribers and millions of views on every video, a more realistic and practical goal according to him is to have a core group of about a thousand people that will watch everything you do and contribute to your cause. Even if they only give a dollar a month that's $1000 a month.
I agree, I think the only person you can rely on is yourself, everything above and beyond that is a huge bonus that we happen to be exceptionally grateful for.
An expectation to being a ‘RUclipsr’ as a full time income for most of us, I think is fairly unrealistic, but that doesn’t mean that people shouldn’t still aim high, because if you aim high enough and seriously pursue that goal, then you’ll likely still end up somewhere good. I think for us and I imagine many, having a hobby that you enjoy which also brings in some beer tokens along the way is a great supplementation to working and however else you are able to make a living.
Like always geate video
Nice video bro, I like the accent of both of you.
Hya guys, loving the channel, have you mentioned Hanks breed yet? I'm thinking Vizla...
I didn't skip the adds to give you an extra penny or two.
Thank you, Sir 🍻🍻
@@CadohaAdventures Sorry Dom, I promise not to skip adds anymore. SORRY!
Good video as per usual.👍 Typical Brit, self deprecating and underselling yourselves. It is very clear you are smart and are real grafters. But leaving that aside you have real marketable skills (and I do not mean scraping off anti foul). Where do I start, you can craft a good story, film, drone, edit, present and weave that together to make a captivating film. I would recommend you try and network with boat brokers, equipment manufacturers and even tourist agencies to see ‘what you can do for each other’,. Maybe even short promotional films about sailmakers, riggers and other marine services - I am sure that would enhance their websites. Anyhoo I am not an expert in this field and just thinking out loud but I am sure you could develop something alongs those lines which at the end of the day may be more satisfying and more lucrative than ending the day looking like a smurf.😀👍⛵️ There is a UK canal based liveaboard who was cranking out vids about well life and journeys on a narrow boat and ended up being head hunted by Victron - so it can be done. I will come back and edit this with a couple of links.
Well that was an interesting half hour of research. He no longer lives onboard his narrowboat. Now working full time for Victron and lives in Holland!! So the opportunity is deffo out there.😉 Might be worth contacting him on Facebook (Journey with Jono):

Re Carlys handywork. I find ebay works very well for me ( if your sales are slow.)
You are going to make a lot more off dog leads than RUclips. We need to see Hank model a few.
Ha ha, well RUclips doesn’t set the bar too high, so I think you’re right, and carlys dog lead skills could very well outpace my filming antics.
I guess as well as being the captain, Carly is also the breadwinner now too 😂
I’ll just be in the galley, making the sandwiches if anyone needs me.
You could use the dock as a model's runway for showing off Hank as a 'lead' model, with the appropriate angles and music he would be an instant hit and you would be the new leash sales leader!
Hi just wondering how much is postage to Australia fir two dog leads please? They look great👍. Hope you three are all well and staying safe.
That's a great question, I'll ask Carly to have a quick look into it for you and will post back later for you, or you can contact Carly directly through instagram.com/cadohaco/?hl=en and I'm sure she'll figure it all out much faster for you, as Instagram is essentially an extension of her being these days. 😁

Hi guys, we just found you via Instagram and hope we helped you a bit on your way towards 10k followers. Just also a question, what is your average ad income last three months? Just curious. We got into the partnerprogramma last month and hit in our first month (not even a full moth) 260 EUR. Is it so that just the first months you are lucky and it drops after that or is it very irregular the monthly ad income? Thanks for sharing!
Hello there, thanks for dropping by. Umm, in short, in terms of ad revenue, about $500 in a month is a very good month and $200 is a slow month. We average somewhere in the middle at the moment.
Hope that helps? 😬
Nice video
