Don't forget you have pretty good video making skills that you can offer. I would think that quite a few yachties would love a good video of their pride and joy under full sail. Keep up the good work.

That is a bloody good idea. A lot of people would take an offer like that up; they don't want to get their own drone and to hire a 'drone' company would probably cost a fortune. any harbour you visit would be full of potential customers. Get some business cards printed Dom!

Dom, give some thought to offering courses on your filming and drone skills. It’s easy to film but the way you bring it altogether with the editing is one of the best on the RUclips sailing channels.

I would agree Tony bought not only that your presentation skills are way beyond many professionals currently on TV. You are a born natural and ought to be snapped up for chats shows through to documentaries.

That is also my opinion. Dom is brilliant at presenting, adding to the other skills of filming and drone flying courses could be a earner. I watch a guy called High Peak Autos who has just raised a course on how to sell cars from his you tube channel.

Tony & Susan here, we are in Michigan and do watch about 15 sailing channels every week. What can I say its winter here. And we have jobs for another 18 months. We are subscribing to your channel but in order to do that two things must happen, 1. You must recognize we exist. 2. We must scrub someone from our watch list, so you had better be funny and charming. Haha

    • @CadohaAdventures

Hey nice to meet you. We can certainly relate to that feeling of having a jobs list that feels like it’ll take 18 months to get through. At the moment each job ends up revealing several more that need our attention.
Ah the joys of owning a nearly 40yr old boat 🤣

About 1½ year later, you have 3M+ views, which is amazing! So the first million took 1½ years, but then you doubled the pace! Still, it isn’t much YT is paying, it’s a shame, but I’m glad to see my two fav sailors doing increasingly well ❤️.

It’s a funny old thing, this algorithm, we went though a patch last year of getting almost no views or new subs, then I analysed some data/ patterns and tested what I thought I saw with videos that did well vs ones that didn’t, made a few changes and then RUclips started being our friend again, ha ha, until the next update no doubt 😂

Thanks for another gem. Transparency over money and logistics add to your appeal and credibility. By coincidence, for the last few months I have been looking carefully at a cruising yacht very close ☘️ to your mooring. Lockdown is preventing buyers to view-in-person, although one professional surveyor is an allowed activity. Good health and best wishes to you both.

I personally think your success comes from the brutal honesty that your sailing/boat knowledge is limited and you are not afraid to say so - a great quality. Now Hank is another topic .......... he's so dammed adorable (like his owners) so it got me thinking of getting a Hank ............. HOW MUCH ?????? ........ unfortunately the bank wouldn't give me another mortgage. So do you make those rigid leads Carly .......... the one's where I can attach a rigid collar and pretend to take my very own invisible Hank for "walkies" twice a day ...........(the men in white coats are coming soon).
Great videos and content guys ......... keep up the good work and watch your subscribers double this year.
    Love to Hank ❤️

    • @CadohaAdventures
      @CadohaAdventures  3 года назад

Cheers, Martin. Yes it's true that Hank isn't the cheapest breed of dog to buy in the world, and on many levels you can make the moral argument that a rescue dog from a shelter is the right thing to do if you want a dog, but I fell in love with the breed from the very day I first came across them, and when I was a kid, we used to have a Great Dane as our family pet, which I also adored, and to me, Hank is like a miniature version of a Dane, so it's a double pull at my heart strings. 😬😬

Love the dog leads and bracelets. Just an idea - if you can find some old copper tubing you could use the large electrical crimp to fasten some of the ropes together. Great video as usual.
Just a couple of ideas using your video skills , A program i used to watch was called Ordinary People, the interviewer would approach people in the street shopping centres what ever and ask simple questions and see where it leads, people were eager to tell all. Another one was The Waiting Room, a guy just like your self was in the foyer of a major hospital asking people casual questions,
like are you visiting a friend or family member and people would open up. Only very short interviews . Someone like your self or Carly who have people skills could do this.
    Just an idea. Take care.

Very inspiring. I'll take a look at your others but have you found 'Odd Life Crafting', Duca and Roberta have over the series renovated their 44ft sailboat in Brazil. Again very detailed and upbeat. I have heard that it can be 7,000 per 1 million, do you know where to some accurate information regarding it, and what countries pay what? My husband and I think we have a good idea for a channel, we are in Brazil.

Hey guys great to see your enterprising ideas. Just a thought with regards to your dog leads Carly. I too have made leads for our dogs, although nowhere near as fancy as yours, and like you used a snap shackle about the same size you use. My dogs are mid sized terriers and I found the shackles were too heavy for the dogs and caused some distress and irritation so I switched to a much smaller shackle, the size you would use on a sailing dinghy. Shackles this size are far cheaper to buy, more in keeping size wise looking and far stronger than you will ever need. Perhaps something you might want to look at. Cheers from a sailor in New Zealand.

I hope 2021 is kind to you both (3), I remember travelling on a minibus from the airstrip in Shetlands to Lerwick, not seeing a single tree on the windswept Isle, but dotted all along were various small houses, I remember thinking, these are not all farmers, what on earth do they do for a living? Well, having worked in West Africa, South America, Europe, UK, Canada, India, Middle East, how many times do you think that same thought came up? Dozens! The answer? Well you already know the answer because your already making a successful crack at it. The answer is that necessity is the mother of all invention, but I'd add something to that, and that's humility, which you both have, it can be seen in some of your mannerisms and subtle comments, it's a very good thing and one to keep tight hold of, hardwork, enthusiasm, friendliness, optimism and humility will always keep you employed or scraping by, but believe it or not scraping by is a good thing, because hope builds endurance. Quite a deep comment from me today rather than banter but hopefully it's a word of encouragement that no matter how difficult things get you still have good qualities on your side. Fair winds and good health 👍

Appreciate it, Ray, and you know in light of the global situation we all face right now, the truth is that we are not all affected the same, and in the grand scheme of hands that could have been dealt, we're pretty lucky and I think we both know it.
      Hope you're keeping well. 🍻

@@CadohaAdventures Yes me my wife and black Lab are doing well thanks. Your dead right and unfortunately without getting political because I am strictly politically neutral it's clear that globally policy makers have made a right pigs ear of things, which was based mainly on economic pressures and wishful thinking. Do you ever watch Dr Campbell? He's an independent health consultant here in UK, he's often been called by News outlets to report his views/findings, he discussed this link last week health-infobase.canada.ca/covid-19/international/ it's a great up to date overview of global cases. One only needs to hover over a country to see the recent steep upturn in cases just like here in UK. There's also another new concerning variant emerged in Brazil reported in last few days. So despite wishful thinking and idiotic virus spreading behaviour in our country it's clear that we are nowhere near at seeing an end to this, in fact it's worse right now than at the initial peak, the only difference being there will be a measure of better understanding of it and how it's managed. And then there's the three vaccines? Time will tell on those, but one concern on variants is them being able to bypass our immune response (public health England comments yesterday) I'm not planning on there being a normal season and spoke to harbour master yesterday, it's not looking good right now for our boats to be lifted in come April. Which frankly is not important in the big scheme of things. What is important is taking it seriously, staying safe, planning for the worse but hoping for the best.....damn I can ramble on 🤣👍

I watch a number of sailing channels and while none of them have come right out and said it patreon is where they get their money. RUclips alone isn't enough unless your channel is huge, a handful of generous patreons can push you up to where you need to be. But it takes time, no one should expect to make anything worth counting on for at least a year and a half.
There is a photographer who has a video I saw that did come right out and say that. He said forget about getting a million subscribers and millions of views on every video, a more realistic and practical goal according to him is to have a core group of about a thousand people that will watch everything you do and contribute to your cause. Even if they only give a dollar a month that's $1000 a month.

    • @CadohaAdventures

I agree, I think the only person you can rely on is yourself, everything above and beyond that is a huge bonus that we happen to be exceptionally grateful for.
An expectation to being a ‘RUclipsr’ as a full time income for most of us, I think is fairly unrealistic, but that doesn’t mean that people shouldn’t still aim high, because if you aim high enough and seriously pursue that goal, then you’ll likely still end up somewhere good. I think for us and I imagine many, having a hobby that you enjoy which also brings in some beer tokens along the way is a great supplementation to working and however else you are able to make a living.

Good video as per usual.👍 Typical Brit, self deprecating and underselling yourselves. It is very clear you are smart and are real grafters. But leaving that aside you have real marketable skills (and I do not mean scraping off anti foul). Where do I start, you can craft a good story, film, drone, edit, present and weave that together to make a captivating film. I would recommend you try and network with boat brokers, equipment manufacturers and even tourist agencies to see ‘what you can do for each other’,. Maybe even short promotional films about sailmakers, riggers and other marine services - I am sure that would enhance their websites. Anyhoo I am not an expert in this field and just thinking out loud but I am sure you could develop something alongs those lines which at the end of the day may be more satisfying and more lucrative than ending the day looking like a smurf.😀👍⛵️ There is a UK canal based liveaboard who was cranking out vids about well life and journeys on a narrow boat and ended up being head hunted by Victron - so it can be done. I will come back and edit this with a couple of links.
Well that was an interesting half hour of research. He no longer lives onboard his narrowboat. Now working full time for Victron and lives in Holland!! So the opportunity is deffo out there.😉 Might be worth contacting him on Facebook (Journey with Jono):

We got into the partnerprogramma last month and hit in our first month (not even a full moth) 260 EUR. Is it so that just the first months you are lucky and it drops after that or is it very irregular the monthly ad income? Thanks for sharing!
