Guys, I just realized that when re-watching episode 11, you could see Light’s dad walk in the same way that the Shinigami was walking. Light’s dad also used the notebook, so... maybe he is the shinigami all along...
I’m gonna be honest, I never once thought of this as a theory, I’ve always considered it a fact, it just makes logical sense for Light to turn into a shinigami.
There’s so much evidence pointing it out. lights clothes when he died, the red tie he always wore, red eyes symbolizing his serious character, the carrying bag when he first found the death note, his crippling walk. What really nails this is his boredom in that world so he wants to know of the possibility’s of another
The Shinigami says: I heard the human world is fun. If he is light, he lost his memories. It totally makes sense, cause Ryuk once told light that Shinigami don't know why they exist. What if all the Shinigamis are death note users who died?
Its complicated but originally Ryuk went blind coz the shinigami king gave him punishment for breaking rules of shinigami realm. He was punished as he allowed Minoru Tanaka (the new kira or the A kira) to make death note public and allowed him toh sell it (Minoru was later killed by ryuk). So at the end of original death note after few years Light Yagami (the original Kira) was now converted into a shinigami in the Shinigami realm (as a death note user cannot go to heaven nor to hell) and started searching famous shinigami who spent most time on earth without getting bored(Ryuk) and eventually meet that shinigami who was Ryuk but blinded by shinigami king Ryuk was unable to recognize Light, Ryuk started telling him light's story. Since light knew his own story and its end where he had lost and died so he already left from there after throwing an apple at Ryuk just like old times. Ryuk recognized him then when he threw the apple the same way Light used to and finally mocked him ,taunted him by saying "you were never a god" but before listening this light has already left and now he wanted to visit earth again but this time not as a god or a human but as a shinigami and this is where death note actually ended
Maybe Ryuk went through the same thing at a time period. They could do a prequel as to what Ryuk was like as a human and how he got reincarnated into a shinigami.

I still like to think that the Shingami with the goggles are the ones, who had a death note while human, refused to take the Shinigami eyes when offered.
They may have to use the goggles to seen the life spawn of the people but they maybe can't do it normally cuz they didn't do the deal that would be a cool theory
In the part where he talks about the hidden meanings in the second opening around 7:10 theres a scene in the opening where lights face is shown with cracked glass, which looks similar to the cracks in the un named shinigamis skull face

Become the new Ryuk and that Ryuk wants to change the shinigami world like Light told him to do in the beginning of episode 4 of the anime itself. To return to the dying world of the shinigami. Maybe face the Shinigami King and allow change in the realm. Pushing change and cleansing out both the rotten human and shinigami realm itself.
@@elperrodelautumo7511 the Shinigami world is meant to be like that because the longer they live by killing people the long they prolong their suffering. Ultimately they have to realise that the only way forward is to stop being selfish and we've seen that through Rem and Gelus. On the other hand Ryuk was punished and lost his eyes making him unable to prolong his life, thus waiting atrociously until his time comes without having learnt the most important lesson. Every life comes to an end eventually, human and Shinigami alike, albeit with different parameters.
*MY Theory:* When death note holder dies he becomes a shinigami. he forgets his memories. Light died and became new shinigami. He remembered about ryuk and that god of death love apples. He forgot his memories. so he asked ruyk to tell him about it. Maybe he remembers something about his story. And ruyk said that we shinigami cant tell humans about the shinigami realm. So every shinigami knows about this but don't tell it. ruyk also said to light you would make a good shinigami. he didn't tell him cuz shinigami can't tell humans much about shinigami realm. And when ruyk was saying you were not a god that unnamed shinigami went away maybe light couldn't hear that thing

Even if Light became a shinigami, he wouldn’t be able to do everything he wanted any more. Sure he could cause chaos, but he would be bound to their rules. Truly a fitting end for him honestly, to become a god like he wanted but have even less power than when he was human.

Honestly if Light did become a Shinigami it would fit him perfectly in terms of karma. Think about it. He was obsessed with becoming God. When someone dies they become nothing. Shinigami are Gods of Death aka Gods of Nothing. Exactly what he deserved.

I can't get over how much I love that Light in his shinigami form has goggles above his head instead of over his eyes, symbolizing that he never made the deal. Pure genius.
I also kinda seen the goggles were the difference between light, the hard working, kind, last-loved student, and Kira, the manipulative, merciless, insane power hungry god want-to-be who could play the part of light whenever he wants or needs. He is shown as red when he's most in the mindset of Kira and the shinigami ( also shinigami and yagami both end in game but whatever) has red eye. Light died as Kira, meaning thinking more like Kira to more people without the veil, cover or goggles to hide behind, so his eyes being red makes sense. He can't hide behind Light anymore, but Light is still a part of what made Kira. The hardworking and wanting what's best. The goggles are showing that Kira still has Light, the Light that number used or even touched the death note. Maybe he could have been saved from his own mind. But the only person I think could have helped him is L .
They could also symbolise when Light told Ryuk if he could give him wings, as that seemed so godly to him, so they could also symbolise the idea of flying in my opinion.
The animé's ending was so much depressing and cruel than the manga, and it was also way better than the manga. Death note had the best animé adaptation.
Well most people believe the "Jesus Medina" theory. Which states that when a shinigami dies. His or her punishment is over. They see purgatory as a prison . So when they die, they get reincarnated as humans. They live their new lives and they go into heaven or hell. Unless ofcourse they use a deathnote, which will most likely not be the case. What would be the odds of ending up in the shinigami realm two times in a row right? So there you have it.
Due to for-shadowing in the anime and that Ryuk actually says that Light is becoming a worthy Shinigami would indicate that with the situation that anyone that has used a Death Note can’t go to heaven or hell; then it would imply that Light became a Shinigami. Also, if Shinigami can die but can’t reproduce, how do you get more, unless you find “worthy humans” to use the Death Note and transform them into Shinigami?

Death note was and still is my fave anime but I didn’t like how they killed light at the end, I was kind of on his team, his morals were good but his methods were bad but I still liked him and LOVED the show

The biggest “hint” that people miss is that the shinigami, like light, exactly knew, what they wanted and they both lost no time going for it. Light used the death note, riuk remarks his determination. The shinigami talks to riuk and vanishes after that, riuk remakes “gone already”
I would have to say that I believe Light became a shinigami because there's also one point you forgot to mention. When Ryukku offers the eye deal, light says he'd rather have wings because it'd be more god-like. Then, Ryukku says something along the lines of "even without the eyes or wings, you're all ready a worthy shinigami." Personally, I haven't watched the films, but I do believe that it's quite possible that Light became a shinigami.
An remember before that he was surprised by how light used the death note so well that anybody else wouldn't even written as many names down as he did so maybe how many people he kills comes into play to

RYUK-187 I was thinking that maybe instead, light would drop his death note down to earth, only to trick others to work as Kira like he did with misa and takada, as light might want to feel like his work is not finished yet. Like John kramer with his apprentices in the saw movies.
I support this theory, plus it makes sense for Light to be reincarnated because it’s a much better way to end his story rather than just....being dead on a staircase. That’s just my opinion
my opinion is that either way its fitting, him just dying on a staircase emphasises that he is just human, can die like anyone else, was just a scared youth, realising he had lost, and was upset, but he was no God, just a mortal claiming to be one while insane

Shoopersaiyan and Light could have retained his memories due to the fact that he still owned a deathnote alone death. Ryuk and other Shinigami may have died by their deathnotes in life and cannot remember.

Light ruined a lot of lives including his own, and while you can say he made the world better for a time, we're told in the end that crime rates pretty much went back to normal, so in the grand scheme of things there was no lasting effect. He didn't create a new world. So one could also argue that Light would have accomplished more if he had lived a long life and become a great detective or used his genius for something else.

tzane123 Like I said there's a theory surrounding the convenience to Light's downfall both Near and Mello were risk takers far beyond that of L so the theory goes Near used the Death Note on Mikami to obtain his Death Note and change out the pages, remember Mikami had a ridiculously strict schedule so why would he so suddenly with no word from his god, Kira change and go collect the Death Note in full, remember with the Death Note you can influence someone for up to a month before their death.
I don't think a Shinigami Light series is going to happen. Light wanted to become the God of a world without crime. As a literal God of Death, there would be nothing stopping him from doing just that. Shinigami have always been able to use their Death Notes from the Shinigami world, it's just that they tend to get mocked by their peers if they use it for more than preventing their own natural deaths. Shinigami also can't be seen unless they drop their Death Note in the human world, which means that he can't be caught or stopped so long as he doesn't lose it. If there was a sequel related to Light becoming a Shinigami, then it would likely involve him continuing to do what he did as a mortal (kill criminals), except now humans can't possibly hope to stop him. But! We do know that Heaven and Hell exist, because Ryuk told Light early on that someone who uses the Death Note cannot go to either place. What we'd probably see is Shinigami Light killing every human he deems to be a criminal, only for the forces of both Heaven AND Hell trying to stop him before he throws the world out of balance by killing too many people before they're supposed to die. That's just my take on it, though.

Light should have won in my opinion. That or L should have won. Not some white haired kid with no connection to Light, only there to finish up L's work. Kinda sad tbh, Light totally acted way too dumb at the end to the point I was thinking "is this really the same Kira"? I still rated the thing 9/10 tho.

I watched this series a year ago and i'm just backtracking and thinking, the possibility of Light becoming a shinigami isn't impossible, which means, all the points you stated were valid. Another reason why I think Light could very well become a shinigami is due to the fact the amount of people he killed in his reign of being "kira". Ryuk said it himself that he would literally be the perfect Shinigami, the amount of mind games he played, and the fact that he could have won if Near and Mello did not exist and it just ended there with kira succeeding after killing of L. Rem also made the comment in the manga where the fact that Light thought of a way to kill L with her protecting Misa shows how Light can actually "kill" a shinigami and how far Light thinks. Due to that and the amount of body count Light has stacked in his "kira" era, we can obviously say that being a shinigami is the perfect punishment for him.
It truly is the perfect punishment. I personally believe how you get out of the shinigami realm is you sacrifice your life for somebody, and than you vanish (like rem and gealus did), and then reincarnate for redemption to go to heaven or hell. If you want to get out of the realm, you need to move on. But, knowing kira, he would never sacrifice his life for anybody under any circumstance. He is narcissistic. Meaning he is just gonna be an endless loop of nothingness until he changes. I would call that hell to be honest. It sounds like torture lmao
Personally I love the idea of Light being this shinigami. The anime ending was so unsatisfying. Maybe even unjust. I was rooting for Light 100%, and wanted to see him win. So to see him get out-smarted by a child after 7 long years, and lose because of it, was so irritating to me. Ive never read the manga so I dont know what that version is like, but as far as the animated version is concerned, the ending made the rest of the series seem pointless and almost not even worth it (almost). I can see the appeal of the ending and, truth be told, it does seem to fit with the overall theme of the story really well. But it just doesn't satisfy me. The thought that Light's story didnt end on some damn staircase is just more appropriate in my opinion

Only reason he "lost" was because Mikami fucked up and didn't follow instructions. If Mikami just did what Light told, the ending would be very different.

IF light did become that unnamed shinigami, I’d love to see a sequel that has him using (different yet similar) intelligence battles with Ryuk; trying to get ryuk to fall in love so he can enact his vengeance, or trying to take the throne of all shinigami. While the story of death note might not be about light, I’d love to see some extra content about the series.
Could it be possible that Light figured out another loophole in the Death Note that would allow him to keep his memory as a Shinigami? This Shinigami does give off Light vibes and definitely acts like he knows Ryuuk. Ryuuk was always surprised by Light and even knew things about the Death Note Ryuuk didn’t. So it wouldn’t be surprising Ryuuk didn’t know that the Shinigami was Light. I believe the new Shinigami was dropping hints to Ryuuk that he’s Light but Ryuuk obviously didn’t catch on. Before Ryuuk could find out who he was the Shinigami leaves. I believe there’s enough there to say the Shinigami was Light.
If he does find it. What if he becomes the Kira again. Think about it, he has the eyes, the memories now, a death note, and invincibility. He could take on the mission of Kira much easily and might take revenge on the people who killed the original Kira.

This is a fantastic theory. I have always wondered where the shinigami came from. It's not like they give birth, so do they just come into existence? It makes so much more sense for them to be humans who used the death note while they were alive. Great video
it makes sense....he was only 18....L was 23 and smarter at guessing....near was just more cold and factual.....his only weakness was mellos strength aka risk taking...it would have cost him the case if mello hadn't given his life to test out the theory....near is too simple and distant from the kira case to ever really see him at his best ...hes mostly in a room away from the action....im sure if he was more of a risk taker like L was and got close to light, he would have proven himself to be as good as L was...hey L didn't catch kira...near did...without any help from L....L also narrowed down kira to japan right away and still couldn't catch him...that's embarrassing...near had to deal with the fact that kira could be anywhere after 5 years...
So maybe a sequel series could be cool with shinigami light being in ryuks position and there is a new person with a death note like maybe a YOUNGER KID LIKE 12 YEARS OLD Let me explain he would be interesting to watch since he would use it for his gain by also killing innocents not in his way.Light killed innocents because they were hurdles.Our kid is young and reckless thus wanting to be popular or just to kill people for fun.

I do not think that every user of the death note gets to be a shinigami. The king of death/shinigami ("old man" as referred to by ryuk) most likely decides who is fit for the job . And Light definetely suits being a shinigami, with a death count of more than 160.000 (which is higher than every other shinigami's score). The fact that he killed all those people without the shinigami eyes most likely impressed the king even more. Also unlike other death note users, Light did not act out of greediness, love or whatever, he wanted to punish and to become a god, one of the reasons why the king granted him immortality. edit: 10:50 very interesting point
I think it's plausible that every user becomes a Shingami, since humans aren't meant to have Death Notes to begin with ._. By becoming the new owner, they are just filling the empty slot of the previous Shinigami who, for whatever reason, no longer has a Death Note.

Well ryuk tells light that humans who use the death note will not go to heaven or hell. But ryuk also says that there is no heaven or hell and everybody goes to the same place.

i think its only when another Shinigami dies in their realm, then the next person, or current, using a deathnote gets roped into it due to some freaky who-do curse or somethin...afterall you don't see the other guy light used with the deathnote and then killed as shinigami
You know, Misa was nearly free from all this. But she just had to jump off a building in the end. She could've lived a long life, especially with two Shimigami lifespans under her belt. Speaking of lifespans, Ryuk's life is probably a lot longer now.

Well, she did take the eye deal twice. Assuming she was going to originally live somewhere around 80 years, that would put her remaining time in her 20s with simple math, or 30s with a more considered halving. (~16 out of 80 leaves 64, cuts down twice to 16, or ~32)
@@_Xds_ That's the function of the note in the hands of a shinigami. I don't think it is ever said if a human can also benefit that way, but it is possible. Though only Rem's note would be free of a shinigami owner. There is the thought that by killing a death god Light ascended to that state. But, a lot of the in universe info could be the unreliable information. The existence of the shinigami and their realm opens up the possibility of other unseen realms that they're ignorant of like humans are ignorant of them and their realm.

Its complicated but originally Ryuk went blind coz the shinigami king gave him punishment for breaking rules of shinigami realm.
He was punished as he allowed Minoru Tanaka (the new kira or the A kira) to make death note public and allowed him toh sell it (Minoru was later killed by ryuk). So at the end of original death note after few years Light Yagami (the original Kira) was now converted into a shinigami in the Shinigami realm (as a death note user cannot go to heaven nor to hell) and started searching famous shinigami who spent most time on earth without getting bored(Ryuk) and eventually meet that shinigami who was Ryuk but blinded by shinigami king Ryuk was unable to recognize Light, Ryuk started telling him light's story.
Since light knew his own story and its end where he had lost and died so he already left from there after throwing an apple at Ryuk just like old times.
Ryuk recognized him then when he threw the apple the same way Light used to and finally mocked him ,taunted him by saying "you were never a god" but before listening this light has already left and now he wanted to visit earth again but this time not as a god or a human but as a shinigami and this is where death note actually ended

I also kinda seen the goggles were the difference between light, the hard working, kind, last-loved student, and Kira, the manipulative, merciless, insane power hungry god want-to-be who could play the part of light whenever he wants or needs. He is shown as red when he's most in the mindset of Kira and the shinigami ( also shinigami and yagami both end in game but whatever) has red eye. Light died as Kira, meaning thinking more like Kira to more people without the veil, cover or goggles to hide behind, so his eyes being red makes sense. He can't hide behind Light anymore, but Light is still a part of what made Kira. The hardworking and wanting what's best. The goggles are showing that Kira still has Light, the Light that number used or even touched the death note. Maybe he could have been saved from his own mind. But the only person I think could have helped him is L .
They could also symbolise when Light told Ryuk if he could give him wings, as that seemed so godly to him, so they could also symbolise the idea of flying in my opinion.

Well most people believe the "Jesus Medina" theory. Which states that when a shinigami dies. His or her punishment is over. They see purgatory as a prison . Due to for-shadowing in the anime and that Ryuk actually says that Light is becoming a worthy Shinigami would indicate that with the situation that anyone that has used a Death Note can’t go to heaven or hell; then it would imply that Light became a Shinigami. Light ruined a lot of lives including his own, and while you can say he made the world better for a time, we're told in the end that crime rates pretty much went back to normal, so in the grand scheme of things there was no lasting effect. He didn't create a new world. So one could also argue that Light would have accomplished more if he had lived a long life and become a great detective or used his genius for something else.

tzane123 Like I said there's a theory surrounding the convenience to Light's downfall both Near and Mello were risk takers far beyond that of L so the theory goes Near used the Death Note on Mikami to obtain his Death Note and change out the pages, remember Mikami had a ridiculously strict schedule so why would he so suddenly with no word from his god, Kira change and go collect the Death Note in full, remember with the Death Note you can influence someone for up to a month before their death.
Theres no doubt in my mind that that shinigami is light.
I want a new series where Light came back to Earth as a Shinigami. Hopefully one day a manga writer can make that a reality.

I don't think a Shinigami Light series is going to happen. Light wanted to become the God of a world without crime. As a literal God of Death, there would be nothing stopping him from doing just that. Shinigami have always been able to use their Death Notes from the Shinigami world, it's just that they tend to get mocked by their peers if they use it for more than preventing their own natural deaths. Shinigami also can't be seen unless they drop their Death Note in the human world, which means that he can't be caught or stopped so long as he doesn't lose it.
If there was a sequel related to Light becoming a Shinigami, then it would likely involve him continuing to do what he did as a mortal (kill criminals), except now humans can't possibly hope to stop him. But! We do know that Heaven and Hell exist, because Ryuk told Light early on that someone who uses the Death Note cannot go to either place. What we'd probably see is Shinigami Light killing every human he deems to be a criminal, only for the forces of both Heaven AND Hell trying to stop him before he throws the world out of balance by killing too many people before they're supposed to die.
That's just my take on it, though.

I watched this series a year ago and i'm just backtracking and thinking, the possibility of Light becoming a shinigami isn't impossible, which means, all the points you stated were valid.
Another reason why I think Light could very well become a shinigami is due to the fact the amount of people he killed in his reign of being "kira". Ryuk said it himself that he would literally be the perfect Shinigami, the amount of mind games he played, and the fact that he could have won if Near and Mello did not exist and it just ended there with kira succeeding after killing of L.
Rem also made the comment in the manga where the fact that Light thought of a way to kill L with her protecting Misa shows how Light can actually "kill" a shinigami and how far Light thinks.
Due to that and the amount of body count Light has stacked in his "kira" era, we can obviously say that being a shinigami is the perfect punishment for him.
It truly is the perfect punishment. I personally believe how you get out of the shinigami realm is you sacrifice your life for somebody, and than you vanish (like rem and gealus did), and then reincarnate for redemption to go to heaven or hell. If you want to get out of the realm, you need to move on. But, knowing kira, he would never sacrifice his life for anybody under any circumstance. He is narcissistic. Meaning he is just gonna be an endless loop of nothingness until he changes. I would call that hell to be honest. It sounds like torture lmao

Personally I love the idea of Light being this shinigami. The anime ending was so unsatisfying. Maybe even unjust. I was rooting for Light 100%, and wanted to see him win. So to see him get out-smarted by a child after 7 long years, and lose because of it, was so irritating to me. Ive never read the manga so I dont know what that version is like, but as far as the animated version is concerned, the ending made the rest of the series seem pointless and almost not even worth it (almost). I can see the appeal of the ending and, truth be told, it does seem to fit with the overall theme of the story really well. But it just doesn't satisfy me. The thought that Light's story didnt end on some damn staircase is just more appropriate in my opinion

IF light did become that unnamed shinigami, I’d love to see a sequel that has him using (different yet similar) intelligence battles with Ryuk; trying to get ryuk to fall in love so he can enact his vengeance, or trying to take the throne of all shinigami. While the story of death note might not be about light, I’d love to see some extra content about the series.
Could it be possible that Light figured out another loophole in the Death Note that would allow him to keep his memory as a Shinigami? This Shinigami does give off Light vibes and definitely acts like he knows Ryuuk. Ryuuk was always surprised by Light and even knew things about the Death Note Ryuuk didn’t. So it wouldn’t be surprising Ryuuk didn’t know that the Shinigami was Light. I believe the new Shinigami was dropping hints to Ryuuk that he’s Light but Ryuuk obviously didn’t catch on. Before Ryuuk could find out who he was the Shinigami leaves. I believe there’s enough there to say the Shinigami was Light.
If he does find it. What if he becomes the Kira again. Think about it, he has the eyes, the memories now, a death note, and invincibility. He could take on the mission of Kira much easily and might take revenge on the people who killed the original Kira.

it makes sense....he was only 18....L was 23 and smarter at guessing....near was just more cold and factual.....his only weakness was mellos strength aka risk taking...it would have cost him the case if mello hadn't given his life to test out the theory....near is too simple and distant from the kira case to ever really see him at his best ...hes mostly in a room away from the action....im sure if he was more of a risk taker like L was and got close to light, he would have proven himself to be as good as L was...hey L didn't catch kira...near did...without any help from L....L also narrowed down kira to japan right away and still couldn't catch him...that's embarrassing...near had to deal with the fact that kira could be anywhere after 5 years...

I do not think that every user of the death note gets to be a shinigami. The king of death/shinigami ("old man" as referred to by ryuk) most likely decides who is fit for the job . And Light definetely suits being a shinigami, with a death count of more than 160.000 (which is higher than every other shinigami's score). The fact that he killed all those people without the shinigami eyes most likely impressed the king even more. Also unlike other death note users, Light did not act out of greediness, love or whatever, he wanted to punish and to become a god, one of the reasons why the king granted him immortality.

I think it's plausible that every user becomes a Shingami, since humans aren't meant to have Death Notes to begin with ._. By becoming the new owner, they are just filling the empty slot of the previous Shinigami who, for whatever reason, no longer has a Death Note.

Well, she did take the eye deal twice. Assuming she was going to originally live somewhere around 80 years, that would put her remaining time in her 20s with simple math, or 30s with a more considered halving. (~16 out of 80 leaves 64, cuts down twice to 16, or ~32)

There is the thought that by killing a death god Light ascended to that state.
But, a lot of the in universe info could be the unreliable information. The existence of the shinigami and their realm opens up the possibility of other unseen realms that they're ignorant of like humans are ignorant of them and their realm.
