- Here is a fun new tutorial for you! I made this at the request of my bf and had a blast figuring out how to do it! Thanks for watching and don't forget to tag me @itsjennbrown on instagram if you make this for yourself :D
Written Pattern
Crochet Hoodie
Unisex size M (Body 23x29.5 in and arms 28x23 in)
Approx. 1640 yards or 6.5 skeins med weight yarn, H/5mm hook
Back Panel
1. Chain 85 + 2 for turning chain
2. Half double crochet (HDC) down the row
3. Repeat until you have 44 rows
Front Panel
1. Chain 85 + 2 for turning chain
2. HDC down the row
3. Repeat until you have 22 rows
4. Only 52 HDC in the next row
5. After the 52 HDC, chain 33 + 2 for turning chain
6. HDC down the chain and continue down the row to bring you back to 85
7. HDC 22 more rows of 85
This makes a half-row cut-out in the front of your hoodie to create the Henley look
Join Back and Front
1. Slip stitch (SS) 52 stitches up each side
2. SS 14 rows in for each shoulder
Sleeves
1. SS to join new loop at bottom of arm hole
2. Chain 66 + 2 for turning chain
3. HDC down row
4. To join to the arm hole, skip one arm hole chain and SS into the next chain
5. SS into the next 2 arm hole chains to start the next row
6. HDC down the row
7. Chain 1 and turn, make *40-50 single crochet (SC) then resume HDC to end of row
This variation in SC count keeps there from being a visible seam where you switch from SC to HDC
8. Repeat these 3 rows around the sleeve, doing 40-50 SC at the end of the sleeve every 3rd row
9. SS the two ends together to join and repeat for the other sleeve
Cuffs and Hem
1. OPT. SC around the edge of the sleeve and SS to join
2. Chain 10 + 1 for turning chain
3. SC down the row and join to sleeve with a SS
4. SS in next chain to start new row
5. SC in back loops to create ribbing to end of row
6. Repeat around the sleeve and SS the ends together
7. Repeat for other sleeve and the hoodie hem
Hood
1. Chain 50 + 2 for turning chain
2. HDC down row and repeat until you have 10 rows
3. Crochet 9 more rows, decreasing each by 2
Do this by HDC across 2 stitches instead of 1, sometimes called HDC together. This makes 4 stitches into 2
4. When you have a total of 19 rows, cut off yarn and repeat these steps for 2 halves of the hood
5. SS up the curved sides to join
Hood Assembly and Drawstring
1. Line up the center of the hood to the center of neckline and SS together, making sure the hood is flipped down and the seam is facing up
2. Flip the hoodie right-side-out
3. Starting at the left (front-facing) side of the V-neck, make a row of double crochet (DC) all the way up the neck and hood and down the other side of the V
4. Starting 4-6 stitches from the neck/hood seam, DC on the back side of the DC row you just did
We’re making a small sleeve for the drawstring to run through. The goal is 2 rows of DC coming from the same set of chains. It helps to crochet the new DC into the loops between the previous DC
5. Make the drawstring. Chain 180 and SS down the chain. Tie off
6. Lay the drawstring in the valley of the DC rows
7. SS the tops of the DC rows together around the drawstring, making the closed sleeve
You should be able to slide the drawstring through the sleeve pretty easily without worrying about it sliding out
Pocket
1. Row 1: chain 12 + 2 for turning chain. HDC down row
2. Row 2-4: HDC and increase 1 each time (row 4 should have 15 HDC)
3. Row 5-6: HDC and increase 2 each time (row 6 should have 19 HDC)
4. Row 7: HDC and increase 4 (23 HDC)
5. Row 8: HDC and increase 8 (31 HDC)
6. Repeat last row 12 more times for 13 rows with 31 HDC each
7. Repeat rows 7-1, decreasing each time
8. To add trim to the curved sides, SC up each side to even it out
9. Chain 3 + 1 and SC down the row
10. SS to join pocket, SS in next chain to start a new row
11. Back loop SC for ribbing and repeat to top of pocket
You may need to skip a stitch occasionally if it starts to get wavy
12. Repeat on other side
13. Line up pocket with center of hoodie and along the top of the ribbed hem
14. Use a large needle and yarn to sew the pocket on
Buttons
1. Find buttons that will easily fit through the DC row
2. Hand sew on
The most professional hoodie pattern I've found. I love the vertical rows. Absolutely love it & am so excited to get mine finished. Thank you for a great tutorial.
Thank you so much, I'm glad you liked it!
Hi Jenn, I loved your hoodie. I made one for my daughter with caron cake blossom yarn in the rose color. I used HDC in the back loops only to make the vertical lines more prominent. She says that she'll wear it in our basement only - LOL! It looked great. I'll try to upload a pic soon. Thanks for this tutorial!
finish the back after 2 weeks. Now I'm doing the front!! 👀
This is so kind off you to place pattern ❤❤❤❤
That turned out beautiful! And I like how you've got the written instructions as text on the screen. I'm pretty sure I'm going to make this...
Thank you so much!
Amazing teacher you are! Thanks
Love this pattern ❤I’m going to try it.
Finishing second sleeve now 😀 LOOKING AWESOME 😎
Thank you for this!
Great Tutorial. Thanks much for the written directions as well.
I love it . Very helpful video with the instructions written down. Thank you
This is super cool! I'm so glad I found this pattern 😁 Just about to start!
Wow that's really nice and the colour is also beautiful...❤👌from South Africa 🇿🇦.....
This is awesome, thanks
This is so amazing! Thank you. Quick question. Are you doing your HDC in the back loop to create the ridges, or are you going through both loops?
Thanks! It's both loops
🤯thank you so helpful
Beautiful work, lovely colour.. suits you well 😀
Do you have different size guide?
I would just measure a sweater that fits good on you and then adjust the pattern to that
I’m so excited to start this pattern. I haven’t made clothing yet. Do you have the written pattern for a Large instead of a Medium?
I'm glad! I don't have a written pattern for the large, but you can add chains to the length and rows to the width, comparing it to another garment that size as you go.
I just wasn’t sure how to do that with all the stitches adding up for the arm holes and such. We will experiment. Thank you!
Regular HDC does not produce that ribbing style texture/pattern. Are you doing these stitches in the back or front loop only?
How cute!
Do you always chain 2 for turning? And if so, do you start at the 3rd stitch from the end?
I always chain 2 for half double crochet... 1 for single crochet and 3 for double crochet. And yes, I start the row in the 3rd chain from the hook.
Can you convert to a size extra large?
How many stitches are left after the 14 on each side of the hood??
Thats excellent work. 🎉🎉🎉 May I ask what yarn did you use?
Thanks! The yellow one is I Love This Yarn tweed in Sweet Dijon and the teal is the same brand but in a teal color (I can't find the exact color name.)
For the sleeve base are you always supposed to slip stitch two?
Yes!
This is beautiful! How would you alter the pattern to make it slightly bigger?
Thanks! I always start out by holding the foundation chain up to myself to see if I like the length. If you continue to do this for the width, sleeve length, etc., you can make it any size you like!
Anyone attempt the pocket? I don't understand the process. Does ch3 go for every start or end of incr? Frustrating because all went well except the explanation of doing the pocket. 😢
How many rows for sleeves?
I commented before, but can’t find it now, Ignore what I said. Didn’t have my a.m. caffeine yet, you’re good.
I crochet a lot, but I'm confused with this pattern. I only wish you would show the whole sweater as you put it together. Seeing just the sleeves is very confusing. Thanks anyway.
What uarn and needle size are you using . And what is the finished size please
That's all listed in the description :)
What size does it turn out to be? I am an XXL and need to make increases!
Unisex/men's Medium. I have the measurements at the top of the pattern in the description
What size hook would I use for men's 1xl
That depends more on what yarn you're using rather than the size of the hoodie. Whatever yarn you want to buy will tell you what size hook to use on the label.
😊😊
not clear😢
Does the ch 2 count as a stitch?
No it doesn't
How many towns did you do in total for the sleeve?
Rows… sorry
Thank you, I’ll figure it out as I go.
Not a beginner friendly not clear
