The game cube controller isn't perfect but I really wish the unique button shapes were an idea everyone took to heart. It makes learning controls so much easier for new players. Telling someone "press x" means nothing to them, "big green button" is so easy to understand
I know you sent this two months ago so sorry if im bothering you. I personally believe the gamecube controller is the best controller there is at least currently. Fits well in your hands and the buttons are shaped based on how often they're used. The only gripes i have with it is how large the shoulder buttons are and the z botton not also being on the left side.
It's really not that hard to learn the difference between 4 equal sized face buttons, especially when they're different colors or show different symbols.
Gamecube is still my favorite controller by far PS2 and 360 are a close 2nd. I still use a 360 controller to play current gen games, and it works flawlessly.
Also I love that you can literally feel the buttons ( X and Y) without looking. It really is a great design. Giant A button, little b button next to it, easy to hold down to run. Best controller ever
The GameCube is hands down my favorite Nintendo system. Every big series entry, like wind waker, air ride, or sunshine is so different and all of them still stick out to me.
@@zparklebugz424I would love for you to tell us why ? I never had Nintendo systems and I plan on getting a 64/GameCube in the near future. I hear conkers bad fur day, paper Mario, Mario kart 64, Pokémon stadium, wwf no mercy lol, & banjo kazooie are gr8 games 🎮
It's crazy that Nintendo didn't offer GameCube games on Wii U at all. It's perfectly capable of playing then as the Power PC structure was an evolution of the Wii's, and you can have the Wii U play GC just fine through CFW.
@@OrchidEleven The GameCube is one of the most emulated consoles ever, with one of the largest communities supporting Dolphin. It wouldn't have been a waste, it would have actually softened the piracy/emulation market AND potentially made them bank if they sold titles through the Virtual Console.
Nintendo made so many blunders with the wii-u. Seems like they purposely nerfed the system's marketing and support. Too bad, it's really a great system imo
Now is probably the best time to emulate Gamecube and we're shown that it is in fact possible with the advent of Super Mario Sunshine within Super Mario 3D All-Stars. However, it doesn't seem like Nintendo is willing to develop emulation for the Gamecube beyond that point. It would be amazing if it happened, but, if only...

I say this all the time but thank you for these long uploads. My work is slow and tedious so listening to game facts makes an hour fly by, you guys rock
I love DYKG compilations. Even though I've seen the individual episodes they came from originally, it's nice to just get all the facts in one place. It's a great thing you all do keeping all these facts together for us fans.
Honestly these long form videos are the best way to consume DYKG content. It’s so convenient to just turn on in the background and listen while doing anything else (I find it really nice while studying). Also the GameCube is a top tier Nintendo system
When I worked at EA years ago testing games (Freekstyle specifically), part of the test plan was to test error messages and ensure games didn't crash in extreme circumstances. One of these test was to pop off the black lid of the Gamecube test kit. Under that lid was a pencil shaped hole. They made us slowly insert a number 2 pencil, eraser side down, in order to slow the disc down and create read errors. In these tests, the game could throw an error but COULD NOT CRASH. I thought it was bonkers but there it was, on the test plan. We also got to test the Wavebird which at the time was a GC controller with a big circuit board glued to it. It was fragile and had to always be set down in a foam lined case.
In my youth, I didn't ever see any of the marketing surrounding the consoles which I loved so much. Seeing these clips and hearing their history is endlessly enjoyable
I didn’t know Nintendo used to have competitions, wow. Or maybe that was the only one? Hats off to the gentleman who shaved his head, and ate actual insects for the prize. I do not have it in me to do that haha.
Man, I don’t know how to thank all you guys for the amount of time and work you put into these videos. I’ve been a fan of the channel for years now (since your Jet Set Radio video over 7 years ago). Not only have I been able to learn so much from your videos, but they’ve been a big part of my routine to relax. I’ll sometimes binge watch hours worth of content while playing games or doing just about anything. I really like the idea of this second channel because I feel like it hits the spot for whenever I just want to watch/listen to hours of gaming content. Keep doing what you guys do. You guys do amazing work and time and know that the rest of the community and I love your work 💜
I can still recall the first couple days after my family bought a gamecube where I'd be sitting in my second grade classroom staring at the clock, waiting for it to hit 3:30pm so I could go home and turn on that black and grey cube to play Paper Mario and the Thousand Year Door... It's a shame I still haven't finished that game 15+ years later.
The GameCube was the last new console I played regularly, and definitely the console I amassed the most games for. I know it gets a lot of flak, but I can't help but love that little thing. Don't play it but maybe once a year now, but every time I pop in THUG for old time's sake, it still feels wonderful. That wavebird controller is a masterpiece.
Love these long videos! Nintendo’s history is super interesting. Especially love hearing about all the GameCube development because that was the first console I personally owned as a kid!
The short clip of Tales of Symphonia's introduction at the beginning of the video made my heart skip a beat, it's such an important game to my formative years.
Here for the giveaway: the Gamecube is my favorite console of all time. I just love Metroid Prime 1 and 2 and this system was perfect for playing with friends. 4 controller ports and the best multiplayer games ever! Super Smash Bros, Mario Kart: Double Dash, Mario Strikers, Mario Party, goddamn this was the coolest console and everyone slept on it. And all during a time where the PS2 struggled with 30 fps, the gamecube had so many 60 fps in almost all 1st party titles and a lot of third party games.
Thank you for the long videos, is great being able to have it in the background when I have to do work/shores. I was only able to play N64 a couple of times, but the one I did get was GameCube. Actually I still have it on display, one of my favorite games was Mario Sunshine, unfortunately I lost it but maybe one day I'll be able to get it again.
I’ve been watching DYKG for almost 10 years now. It was one of the first RUclips subscriptions I had in high school. I live this channel and everything you guys do. Please never stop with the awesome information!
I USED TO BLOW IN MY NES CARTRIDGES ALL THE TIME. It just seemed like the thing to do until I discovered the actual cleaning kit. In hindsight, running a qtip through the slots probably would've been just as good and better than blowing.
Thank you guys for always increasing my knowledge on video game history and lore. Still need to watch the rest of the youtube channel. Keep up the good work DYKG
GB SP is my favorite portable game console as well. It was my first portable console and I remember playing the Legacy of Goku 2 and Buu's Fury for hours. I love that little console.
I think it’s neat that the GameCube almost had a motion controller, wonder if the wii would’ve been different if the GameCube got the motion controls instead.
