when I was young, I got a GameBoy. I had a friend who had a GameGear. At first, I was amazed with the GameGear. But then I realized that it took more batteries and lasted far less. I knew that my parents would never buy that many batteries so I completely lost interest in it. Even now, I am sure that battery life is what made the GameBoy a huge success.

The GB line is honestly legendary. I was born in 97 but I got a bunch of my older cousins hand me downs and one of them was an original gameboy and what seemed like a million games. I learned how to read at an early age out of spite because I couldn’t beat Pokémon yellow

All this forethought into the Gameboy Advance. All this detailed planed to the tiniest detail. And yet it didn't have backlight or a headphone jack. Sure, let me try to watch Pokemon on a public school bus while holding the system super close to hear, and hoping I got good lighting.

Honestly nothing can replace dedicated gaming hardware. Gaming on my phone sucks with out buttons. I know you can buy a controller but it makes everything clunky and unwieldy. A gameboy or any of the devices can just be pulled out and turned on. My note 10+ < gameboy advance
I never had an gameboy (gb, gbc, gba...) when I was a child, but getting older I got to play many of the excelent gameboy games like Pokemon Crystal, Minish Cap, Pokemon Fire Red, Crash Bandicoot... and now I'm back to it, played Metroid Zero Mission recently and now playing Metroid Fusion. The gameboy games made such a difference in my life and watching the B roll for this compilation with ads, promotional material and footage from this era makes my heart warm. Wow. What are the odds. Was surprised when I heard of the borthday start up sound. So I turned on my ds lite and it made that sound. Its not my bday and never bothered checking what the bday setting was on it. Just so happen to be set on Dec 14. Blew my mind
I have to say, I prefer Nintendo’s handheld consoles than their home consoles by a little bit. The game quality just had this charm, especially when it came to the GBA and it’s beautiful graphics. I’m happy the Switch is both a handheld and home console since they could merge the philosophies of both consoles, making games that are not only enjoyable, but also easy to pick up and play.

GB games would cost much more than 2 genesis games. More than that, many people didn't speak English back then, so many pirate versions were patched so people could understand the game. When Nintendo requested r4 to not be sold, they were ask if that could harm other consumers that used the product for other things. As Nintendo failed to proof r4 exclusive usage for piracy it was reject in Brazil and Argentina.
As small as it would be, I wonder what the effect of the 3DS having the ability to modify the d-pad and circle pads positions would effect designs in the future. What if people loved the idea of modular consoles and things moved more in that direction much earlier?

honestly, I fucking WISH Nintendo would continue pursuing the VR gaming space.. Obviously the failure of the virtual boy kept them far the hell away from it for ages, but.. My partner boof and I have regularly revisited multiple ports of Mario Sunshine and Luigi's Mansion worlds in VRchat, and GOD ARE THEY STUNNING.. I just want ONE official Nintendo VR game ;3; ..I can only imagine what kind of shit they'd put together for it, those minds out there are genius as all hell
The origina GBA's form factor is still the best to this day IMO. I wish they'd made a successor to that instead of the Nintendo DS. Dual screens and touch screens are just gimmicks, sadly.
Seems like the 3ds failed because they were able to add all the random shit they could think of while the DS succeeded cause they were forced to drop stuff to focus on the dual and touch screens

IKR? We have a Game Boy & Game Gear. We would always play the Game Gear with an AC adapter and we rarely did that with the Game Boy.

The original had a headphone jack. I believe maybe you’re mixing it up with the SP? Still the lack of a backlight was pretty silly
