Hi sir I just wanna ask you if those front panels adapter would work on my Dell optiplex 9020 SFF. In the description of that adapter it says it won't work on SFF models but I think the motherboard of Dell optiplex 9020 MT and dell optiplex 9020 SFF are the same? I just want to case swap into RGB casing.
Actually just figured it out. The Amazon 24 to 8 pin is faulty. I grabbed the old psu from optiplex to put power to mobo and everything fired right up no errors
Long story here, hopefully you can point me in the right direction as I might be overthinking stuff. I don't actually want to switch the motherboard out, I just want to upgrade the PSU; given my Dell Vostro 5890 which is pretty much like the Dell XPS 8940 and Inspiron 3880 (as proprietary and generic crap as it gets, they all even look the same), came with a Small Form Factor 2-rail 12V 18A 460W PSU. I managed to get an RTX 3060 Ti last week, and even though my PSU should have around 212W per rail according to my friend, that's barely squeaking by since my 3060 Ti model should produce around 200W. Based on what I'm seeing, my Dell Vostro's 5-pin power switch is also proprietary to Dell's PSU cable connections correct? Or does it get its power from the motherboard? I would like to get one of those 650W SFX small PSU to replace the stock SFF 460W Dell one, but if the Dell PSU has a cable connection for the 5-pin Dell power switch, then I wouldn't be able to turn my PC on with the Dell case's power switch anymore correct? Great tutorial by the way.
From my limited knowledge of those dells, the only thing I recalled need was the psu adaptor but looking at the board things seem different. Not sure and would have to do alot more research
@@DLMtechgarage Oh well. I guess I'll undervolt my 3060 Ti for now. Any wattage peak will shutdown my PC for sure if I don't. I think that Dell 5-pin adaptor did the job for you; you pretty much replaced the stock Dell switch with the new case's power switch. I think I would have to get that 5-pin adaptor, and then get one of those external power on/off switches instead of the whole PC case. I hope undervolting works, that way I won't have to do extra unnecessary PSU changes.
the power on the board is the same as a standard power supply. only Issue i see is probably having to do some case modding to fit in a standard psu. best bit would be is to use a sfx psu.
Hi i have dell precision tower 7810 my GPU is too big for the case so i have to keep the case open and it gets dirty so easily is there a case i can add because my mother board etc is not compatible with most cases
I have a T5810 & added a 5500XT yesterday the case wouldn't close due to the panel having this metal strip on it, so I drilled the rivets off and then whacked it with a hammer, case closes fine now.
The OptiPlex 9020 (and the Elitedesk G1 I think) throw the “f1 error” upon boot up when you change the original fans [cpu/exhaust] Do you have any experience with this or suggestions on clearing those up? Would love to upgrade the heat sinks and fans on mmy old Behemoths
I am not sure what causes that. I have used aftermarket fans with no issues and others who have used the same have had the same issue. still puzzles me.
Could you show us how to do the exact opposite of this? Like if I wanted to put an aftermarket mobo with a ryzen cpu in a Dell 7010 MT case? I want to do this but am not sure how to get the front panel & power button to work.
not sure, never messed with one, I would reach out to the company harbin repair and asked their opinion. they specialize in this and probably could provide some insight.
what it the case you used? what size is the motherboard for the Precision 3620? I find this is one of the most confusing things to figure out when trying to swap or build.
I have an optlex 9020 core i7 10th gen and GTX1650 but is the original cpu fan enough for gaming? or should I swap it tho my gpu has 2 fans so in total 3 fans
10th gen intel runs hot, I would def consider the upgrade to a better cooler and possibly adding an extra fan to the optiplex case. many remove the HDD cage and run a 120mm fan by cutting a whole behind the front panel or just mmodding the fan in their. Optiplex case were limited in air flow but that was because the older intel cpu's did not tend to run as hot.

Does the lack of a proprietary cpu fan or rear fan cause f1 errors? Or do the adaptors solve this? Most videos seem to suggest you will run into this problem
So I use the stock fan it comes with and then add additional fans comob that require a sata hub power and this has always worked well. I have used the adaptors and have had no issues but other people say that they still get the fan error. not sure why it works sometimes and it does not.

One thing I noticed. In the optiplex there is a like door switch that gets pushed in when you put the side panel back on. Did you install that and if not did you get any errors?
I didn't in this build and had no errors. I have heard of some people not installing it and getting an error, it varies on models. Then I would just wire it and took it behind the mobo tray in the case.

However I can't find any front panel / power adaptors for this model, they're all for older models like your example and wiring changes with models.
Can you help with this kind of thing as right now I can't see how it's possible to do what you're doing with the 7060.
Thanks and good health to you.
i believe the board is similar to a 3050, I did a video on that one and it should be the same. check the channel for the video.
Is this the case you used: Thermaltake V200 Tempered Glass RGB Edition 12V MB Sync Capable ATX Mid-Tower Chassis with 3 120mm 12V RGB Fan + 1 Black 120mm Rear Fan Pre-Installed CA-1K8-00M1WN-01
yup! although i bought the non rgb version and got my own fans for it.
You think you could include if the case fans would work
you can reuse the old case fans, but their only 92mm i think so they would be smaller then the standard 120 mm in most cases.
I am not sure why it does not work. never tried it.
I did everything like the video but for some reason I can’t get anything to display
I turned my Dell optiplex 9010 into a gaming monster 16 emulators from NES to Xbox 360 and about a 1000 games I can play offline or online 😎👍
Nice!!
Actually just figured it out. The Amazon 24 to 8 pin is faulty. I grabbed the old psu from optiplex to put power to mobo and everything fired right up no errors

Will look into to it and see if i can find one for a good price. could be a fun build. Thanks for the input.
What did you connect the front 3 fans to? I wanna add more fans to my build but don't know what to buy to add more fans to my optiplex 7010 mobo
I used a sata to fan splitter. Allowed up to 4 own fans on 1 sata power
What case are you using? Thanks in advance.
this was a thermaltake matx one
which cable you put in your 4 pin cpu connector slot pls tell me i need to know
I used the cpu fan cable
@@mecha_korta2761 let me know how it goes.
Did you use mb standoffs?
precision-t3600 i will like to see you swap this with a standar power supply i am working on that for a friend
👍
the power on the board is the same as a standard power supply. only Issue i see is probably having to do some case modding to fit in a standard psu. best bit would be is to use a sfx psu.
Do I have to connect rgb fans with motherboard or do they work already without putting any connectors or adapters
The ones I buy use SATA power with a remote.
Or molex adapter
Hi i have dell precision tower 7810 my GPU is too big for the case so i have to keep the case open and it gets dirty so easily is there a case i can add because my mother board etc is not compatible with most cases

The OptiPlex 9020 (and the Elitedesk G1 I think) throw the “f1 error” upon boot up when you change the original fans [cpu/exhaust]
Do you have any experience with this or suggestions on clearing those up?
Would love to upgrade the heat sinks and fans on mmy old Behemoths
I am not sure what causes that. I have used aftermarket fans with no issues and others who have used the same have had the same issue. still puzzles me.
What is that led lighting the upper corner. An led strip?
i get them on amazon, link below. like that they are magnetic and great for older pc's without addressable rgb. uses sata power and a remote.
why won’t the stuff connected in the back of the I/O back panel come off?
not sure.
Great job on this one, I'm about to copy the same thing you did for girls gaming PC

How did you connect the 3 fans to the board I’m trying to do the same thing a little confused
I used splitters, for single fan, but multi fan kits like the one I used have a hub which is SATA powered.
could you tell me what the power supply you used was?
it was an aresgame 500w psu. you can get them on amazon for like $30USD

yup, they sell the kits for them as well. same install

Could you show us how to do the exact opposite of this? Like if I wanted to put an aftermarket mobo with a ryzen cpu in a Dell 7010 MT case? I want to do this but am not sure how to get the front panel & power button to work.

@@DLMtechgarage I see thanks
@@DLMtechgarage but can I add fans on the original dell case?
you can, i believe the rear is a 92mm or 80mm which you can order online. the front you can put a 120mm with a little extra modding.

@@DLMtechgarage do you mean th e rear stock fan? It’s mainly the cooler master fan plugging into the cpu fan port that seems like it would be the most likely to give f1 errors. It seems like the 5pin to 4pin adapter worked alright from what I can tell watching your video.

Nice video, very helpful, I'm in the process of a case swap myself and I have several questions :
The semi-modular PSU I'm using come with 2 non modular cables : 24pin (the big one designed for the mobo) and a smaller one 2x4pin. Is it best to connect the mobo to the PSU via the 24to8pin adapter, or directly use the non-modular 2x4pin it also come with ?
The case i'm using (pure base 500DX)come with 3 non-rgb fan, what's the best way to connect them ? I have several 5to4pin adapters but only one system fan socket + the CPU fan. Should I use a Sata to 4pin ? or some splitters ?
Anyway thanks a lot for this guide it's very helpful ! Cheers
use the adaptor for the psu and as far as the fans, def get a splitter or hub
