      Simple, burn the the stick for black, let the can rust and grind it to a fine powder for red, grind the tuna skin for blue and you might be able to get yellow out of the stick by extracting it's tannins into a powder form. White is a tough one, tuna bone maybe? You could get a gray from the ashes of the label as well. Mix all of it up with tuna oil and you're well on your way.

    That “don’t freak out” was timely - I didn’t want to miss the glazing process. I’ve only tried that technique with an airbrush so it was cool to see it can be done by regular brush as well

    • @MarcoFrisoniNJM
      @MarcoFrisoniNJM  4 года назад +1

      Hahahaha awesome 😁! I recorded the whole process but watching the first 30 minutes of glazing I saw that was impossible to see something really happening 😅.
      Oh yeah glazing is a classic brush technique; the airbrush makes it quicker on medium/larger surfaces but can't reach the same level of precision

    Hi Marco, love your videos, you are my favorite minipainter on youtube by far. The way you share how you approach painting and why you take the decisions you take is extremely enjoyable and instructive. I particularly like this series, I learned a lot from the two entries so far and in fact you convinced me to buy the scale 75 artist primary colors and I've had a lot of fun playing around with mixing and color theory.
    Might I suggest that for a future video you try doing 3 colors but with a more limited palette than 3 primaries? Like the zorn palette or something like that. Would be great to see how you use the relation between colors to your advantage. Another interesting idea would be 3 colors from a generalist hobby paint brand like citadel or vallejo since mixing is a bit more unpredictable but this may be more relatable to hobbyists compared to using "artist" paints like kimera or scale75 artist.
    Finally if I had to point out one criticism is that I'm not the biggest fan of the real time painting segments with no voiceover because I mostly watch your videos to learn about colors and composition (and to enjoy your italian accent!) and not so much to see a masterclass in all the detail of the individual brushstrokes. Personally I tend to skip these parts. That being said, I still enjoy the content religiously every week.
    Looking forward to future videos!

    Last video with the dwarf inspired me to start sketching on models with white and its incredibly fun! This one was more of a Mary Poppins bag of lessons to learn. I had to hit pause several times and think about a lot of the things you said and did, comparing it to my experiences while mixing. Its truly inspiring that you achieved such a "different" and unique result. As an art student myself i find it difficult see the artistic part a lot of the times, and even on most amazing paintjobs on instagram or pinteres i feel that they are just well executed techniques. I feel like there is always like a million things to learn in each of your videos. So much so that I need to watch them multiple times, in order to focus on just one of the things at a time.
    The most amazing thing for me about the final result is not the limited palette, but the fact that it's made in 3 hours. I painted this whole warband a couple weeks back trying to replicate and use your suggestions on different gold colors from the airbrush, and it took me almost 3 hours for each model even though the main metallics were applied with the airbrush in almost no time xd

    Good morning! I just started painting a few months ago, and since I'm so new I figured I'd start learning oils as well. You, Dmitry Fesechko, James Wappel, and Vince Vinturella are the only artists I know of who instruct in how to use oils on youtube. So thank you! My hurdle now is how to set up a Palette with unthinned oils. I find when I spread the oils out in like you do with the various tones of acrylic it's too thin to grab anything with my brush. How does an oil palette for miniature painting differ from your palette here?

    • @MarcoFrisoniNJM
      @MarcoFrisoniNJM  4 года назад +3

      Hi! Awesome, you made a great decision (Dmitry is definitely the best with oils!!!)!!! Starting working with oils when you are too used to acrylics can be more challenging than starting using both from the very beginning 😊.
      You are right, when you spread oils in a thin layer over the palette they are so thick that become difficult to handle with the small, soft brushes for miniatures.
      I usually work around this issue using a bit more paint so I can work in the upper soft mass of the pool and I dilute it just s little bit to make it more workable (but I do this only with certain colours; I don't drain the oil from my paints so they are usually quite soft).

    • @MarcoFrisoniNJM
      @MarcoFrisoniNJM  4 года назад +1

      Hi! With Kimera is super easy, Magenta, Cold Yellow and Phtalo Blue Green Shade. With Vallejo is more difficult because they don't tell you what pigments you have inside the bottle so even if the colour is right it can behave in unpredictable ways when mixing!

      Hi! Don't worry to much about the model!!! • @MarcoFrisoniNJM
      @MarcoFrisoniNJM  4 года назад +1

      Thanks a million man!!! Oh yeah that's a great technique; the beam of paint from the airbrush behave like a a beam of light and can immediately underly the areas you need to highlight. These scale artist paints seem to have much better opacity and coverage than the scale color line...is that true? Just seems like it based on the video. May be the difference in medium? I know the scale color use a sort of gel medium which can make the paints hit or miss.
    Also, how do these compare in consistency to say Liquitex gouache?

      I have the big bottle of white, but it's really rare for me to work on a white base (maybe only on models that will be 90% in white). It's a very good option if you like a white base but it's super opaque so not good if you need a transparent layer

    • @MarcoFrisoniNJM
      @MarcoFrisoniNJM  4 года назад +1

      Try using more paint! Usually that's the real problem 😉.
      Gouache is quite transparent so you can't really layer it like I did it in the first stages here but it's definitely better than scale artist if used on top of a zenithal sketch. In terms of behaviour on the palette and for mixing I can't really choose one over another!

I found that the pigments from the yellow turned super chalky if I mixed a green. Like they almost separated once dry. Did you find this to be a problem.
