  • Here's my opinion on 4 different survival knives that each cost less than $50, 3 of them less than $20. There are many other knives in this price range and I'm sure some of them are great too. These are just ones I personally own and have had a chance to use for a while. If you have been looking for a good, low-cost survival knife or maybe considering one of these, I hope this video helps.

    I have an OLD Mora knife that my Dad gave me, when I was 9, or 10. I grew up on a farm in SASK. The sheath has been missing for a lot of years, the knife was lost outside for 3 yrs. and laid in the bottom of my boat for about 4 yrs. Then it rattled around in a toolbox for many yrs. It has NOT had an easy life. About 4 yrs ago, I wanted to bring it back to service. The Birch handle had split, blade rusted dull, not in good shape I oiled the handle , de-rusted, (left the patina on) and sharpened. STILL, A GREAT KNIFE.Like I said, My Dad bought it for me when I was 9, or 10. I will be 70 soon, and still cherish this little Mora.

    Hi Brian, I love Mora knives! I have a #2, compaion & robust and love them all. The #2 was my least favorite until I gave my old one to my 15 yr old son, and then missed it so much, I had to get another. I toy with the idea of getting a condor bushlore a lot of the time, but my Moras (in combination with my fiskars hatchet) do everything so well, I cannot bring myself to getting another knife. Thank you for sharing your knowledge & reviews! I have be watching you since your start and really enjoy and learn a lot from your videos.

    "You can survival in the bush without a knife in any situation IF you have the skill set. The knife and especially the axe just make life in the wild much easier."
    The statement above is said to point out what is really important:
    1. Psychology is the most important survival tool.
    2. Your skill set is next
    3. Your tools (knife, axe, saw, etc.)
    4. Your equipment (containers, shelter, etc.)
    5. And so on
    What knife (or cutting tool) you use is almost totally a personal choice if the sharp tool is made of quality materials. Some folk buy an $800 USD Ray Mears Woodlore. Others buy a $27 USD Mora Bushcraft Orange knife and are effective.
    The above backs up what Survival On Purpose and 508MASS378 said.

    Good video as always Bryan.
    A little story about Moras: Before I knew better, I bought my first Mora off Amazon, mostly out of curiosity, because I didn't understand why so many people swore by them. Since I was just experimenting, I bought the one that seemed to offer the best combination of features and cost that I could find, which happened to be the Craftline Q. It cost under $10 bucks. In retrospect, I think I scored big time! It is made of carbon steel, has a full finger guard, weighs all of 2.4 oz. (3.3 with the sheath), locks into its sheath very securely, and costs less than the Companion. It is shorter than the other Moras (3.8") and is intended as an all-purpose utility knife, and I find it excellent for that and for most bushcraft tasks. Each of my kits now has one.

    Glad to see someone using a fixed blade with the Boy Scouts. I completely disagree with the BSA's "suggestion" (our troop treats it like a rule) of no fixed blade knives. There is nothing like a fixed blade for survival which I think is part of what scouts should be taught.

    • @SurvivalOnPurpose
      @SurvivalOnPurpose  10 лет назад +1

      Schwenky Dave Our troop says the same thing but I agree that learning to safely handle all types of blades is an important skill that all Scouts should know. I'm all for safety, but we're talking about Boy Scouts for cryin' out loud.

    • @survivalcommonsense
      @survivalcommonsense 10 лет назад

      I agree! My troop (Troop 18, Bend, Oregon) bought 40 840 Moras for the scouts several years ago after a youngster cut himself severely at camp after his lockblade failed. The Moras are a good knife for bushcraft and camp cooking, and the BSA's "suggestion" of no fixed blades shows a level of ignorance I'm uncomfortable with.

      I recently became a Scoutmaster again and I (ever so quietly) made an executive decision that a knife is a knife is a knife, and the best knife for general use in the field is one that doesn't fold. The boys all thought it was a great idea.

    That first Mora is a very nice Knife. Like an Opinel, it is good quality, and like the Opinel, it is easier to use if you carve some checkering into the handle.
    For me, what i buy is just a starting point. With a bit of thought and effort, most things can be made more suitable for your own particular use.
    Nice Video, realistic and practical.

      I thought about doing that. I like the traditional design but I have to admit I prefer the molded handle version, especially for my kids to use.

    • @tomjeffersonwasright2288
      @tomjeffersonwasright2288 9 лет назад

      Survival On Purpose You can draw the checking pattern with a pencil. A cut off wheel on a dremel tool will cut a fine groove, brown with heat. If you don't want the brown, a jeweler's file or sharp cutting knife will put the pattern in fine. I have been tempted to inlay a couple of cabochons of hematite in the handle, set deep in epoxy, but have not yet done it.

    Say Heah Brian, A while ago, I bought a Bokor Black Rold in D2 at a intro price, But I was severely injured when it slipped out of its dangerously loose sheath. Since then I put a Belt Loop I took off another sheath and now it's alot safer. But the Handle Strap was a little loose, So I put my Mora Classic #1 on the handle strap and that picked up the slack, Not only did it make it better, But I have two great knives, very, lite Combo. I also attached a Wenger Pouch to the bottom of my Vox Rold Sheath and everything fits together perfectly and even color match. Yeah, I liked my Mora 510 over my Classic #1 because I like the handle better and I use it as my neck knife and it's snaps into the sheath tight. Since the blades are identical, I know my Mora Classic #1 will be used alot more. I don't worry about the D2 Steel because Bokor Tempers it great. I also use a Hatchet and Saw.,,. p

    I recently took down the red handle and used a file to square up the back of the blade to work with a fire rod. This blade is clearly made of three layers. The middle one I think is ultra hard and the outer ones softer to prevent breakage. I love how sharp this thing is.

    The 'saw' on the spine of some Glock knives is for rubbing a notch on wood for paracord lashing, I have had mine for years and never found it useful. The tang is a rat tail, not full. I found the knife good quality but too long in the blade for my liking. I have several knives, a couple of them very expensive, but keep taking my battered Mora Robust with me to the woods.
    If I had to pick a knife for a serious expedition I would not choose the Mora but I know from experience that as long as you don't expect it to baton through a vast pile of four inch logs it does just fine. Also if I lose it or break it it is cheap to replace. Good vid.

    Say Heah Brian, most recently in one day I received four knives, in the morning mail I got my Stromeng Knives from Ragweed Forge, in the afternoon the brown truck brought me from the Swamp Rat Custom Shop my modified Rodent 6, I always wanted a Leuku The Indigenous Saame People live by their Leuku, they use it from everything in the bush to kitchen use, so I got my first Leuku It's the KS. 9. Stromeng makes their 7"-9" blades in Carbon Steel, the 5" and smaller are made in the Sandvik 12c27 Stainless Steel which Mora also uses that Stainless Steel in their stainless steel knives and alot of people claim it's just as good as the carbon blades, that's why I went along with my KS. 5 and my Puukko STAK in the Sandvik 12c27 Stainless Steel, which is a beautiful 3 1/2" blade, the nice thing is, it's so lite that I could neck carry it and I don't know it's there, the remarkable thing is how close the Leuku looks like a Butcher Knife it's just a little more beefier, and the amazing thing is that such a large knife is so versital, The Saame People live by it, so I got the three just in case, but as far as the stainless steel even on the Mora's the Sandvik Stainless is easy to sharpen it and on mine I can throw slot of sparks from my Ferocium Rod, it's not bad Brian.

  • @BeSatori
    @BeSatori 8 лет назад

    They make a version of that first Mora WITH a stainless finger guard. I felt the same way about sliding up on the blade, but I really love that guarded version. The sheath makes it slim enough to fit into the hollow stock of my Marlin 795 22lr as an emergency knife. That "HD Companion is my daily wear knife, even though I have much fancier knives. It's my most comfortable to use knife and my go-to for carving. The tang extends to the little finger and is full enough for me. I've baton'ed it extensively. JRE industries makes a great leather sheath for it for ~$35. That Glock looks great. Thanks for the intro to it, I've never seen that one before.

    • @SurvivalOnPurpose
      @SurvivalOnPurpose  8 лет назад

  • @random_eskimo_in_the_rockies
    @random_eskimo_in_the_rockies 8 лет назад

    The serration on the back of the blade for your thumb is called jimping, it helps control the blade when you're doing fine cutting work. That Glock knife is a real beast of a workhorse. It's softer than many knives so it doesn't hold the best edge, but it's easy to sharpen and that also means the blade is STRONG.

    • @random_eskimo_in_the_rockies
      @random_eskimo_in_the_rockies 8 лет назад

      By the way, I have that same Gerber you showed, but mine had wooden handle scales. I got it from a Walmart when I needed something cheap and easy in Alaska once, and it performed very well considering what I paid for it.

      I really love Mora knives. In the old days, the Finns and Swedes claimed that finger guards were only for little kids until they grew up and could be trusted with a "real" knife, meaning one like your no. 2 there. I think their "Cult of Manhood" thing is a bit silly for myself, but since I'm a teacher (and not a lumberjack or fisherman) I don't think they'd consider me a "real" man anyway. Que sera sera. Proof of manhood had its place in history, when the world was a lot more difficult than it is now, but I think we've made enough improvements to make up for losing that aspect of society. Great video.

    Another good knife is the Buck BuckLite MAX. Full tang 420HC steel and an extremely comfortable handle. Plus the $20 price tag won't make you cry. The only objection I have to it is the sheath, which is a crappy nylon one very similar to that Gerber. But it holds the knife in, so I guess you could say that it does what it was designed to do. I've carried mine for years and I love it.

    Take a look at the Mora 2000, for what it is it is a fantastic knife and is fantastic if it is raining, stainless steel though. Wouldn't call it a survival knife in the classical sense but those knives takes a beating really well, I've had one since the knife was new on the market and even though I never took care of it it's still beating mot other knives in that price range.

  • @peterm.eggers520

    The Mora knife sheath for the rubber handled knives receives much criticism, but I have never had a knife fall out working as a warehouse man, banging it on pallets, sitting on it, and drawing my knife and reheating it several times a night. I do clip the sheath to a pocket, rather than a belt, normally a hip pocket. If I was doing cartwheels, I would add a standard knife handle snap to it, but that is highly unlikely to be necessary. I do carry the Mora knife the same way doing landscaping and yard work without a problem.
    I would not use sheath upside-down without adding a handle securing mod, but that would be easy, though I probably won't find it necessary.

    • @SurvivalOnPurpose
      @SurvivalOnPurpose  8 лет назад

      +Peter M. Eggers I think the button hole is to allow you to piggy back two knives together. Some sheath models have the ability to do that

    • @peterm.eggers520
      @peterm.eggers520 8 лет назад

      +Survival On Purpose That is an option on some sheaths. According to 1 or 2 others on RUclips, it works well with proper sized buttons too. Someone said that biboveralls had the right sized buttons for a chest mount, but I haven't verified that. Works great with the button on my jeans, snapping very securely on, yet still swivels. Can't imagine carrying it that way, but the buttons on overalls I believe are the same size.

    Before I was drawn into the survival mindset that is so prevalent these days, I "got" by with a folding knife such as a BUCK 110 etc. Around circa 2010, my son started showing interest in survival shows specifically "Dual Survival" with Hosts Cody Lundin and Dave Canterbury. My son bought a Mora 511off ebay with his saved money. He said it was what Cody "carried" around his neck. I watched a few episodes and determined that his knife was more of classic 2 Morakniv. This became my first non-folder. Until then, a folder was my "go to knife" in the woods. I still have that knife as well as numerous Morakivs and more expensive fixed- blade knives. The folder has become a secondary knife, nonetheless a working secondary knife to my primary blade. The venerable Mora is still a capable bushcraft knife of mine imho.

    Didn't see it in the comments, and someone commented that the Glock knife is full tang. It's not. Tang extends halfway into the handle. The rest is hollow, with a very tight plug at the end. Yes, you can keep a limited number of tiny items in the handle. Some think it's there to house a nail so that a stick can be inserted into the handle, and the nail pounded in to hold the stick in place for making a spear.
    Actually, it's there, along with the bend in the guard (some mistake that for a bottle opener), to attach the knife to a Steyr AUG. The Glock knife is the AUG's official bayonet. I think it looks silly on one. But that's why those features are present.
    Wanted to say, I've watched a few of your vids. but only subscribed today. Sorry it took so long. Thanks to your excellent vid. on sleeping platforms/foam mattresses I went out and bought a self-inflating one just hours after seeing that vid. A so-called survival expert who likes to toot his own horn a bit, recommended something completely different.....
    Something far bulkier, not as thick or comfortable, and only a bit lighter. But the bulk was ridiculous! He omitted a fact you brought up. That the self-inflating kind can be repaired if a tear or puncture occurs. I started noticing that he left out a few other things to make his opinions seem like the best, or sometimes only choice for others. You don't do that. So I decided to subscribe to your channel, instead of his. BTW, I will say he's not one of the more popular survival experts on RUclips.

    That first Mora knife you showed, has a version with a guard on it. I have one. How could you not have known that? I have the second knife you showed too. I love it. The sheath is awesome. I hang it on my pants pocket, and I have never lost it. Good sheath. The first sheath isn't very good. Both of the Mora's need to be ground on the back of the blade if you want to use it on ferro rods. I had to on mine. Dave Canterberry said the new ones were better. I like the 3rd knife, but on the Glock knife, I'm just talking here, but if I did not know it was full tang or not, I would not be so quick to buy it. I have many Mora's, but like you, it's not the ultimate, because of the non full tang. I can't decide what my ultimate knife would be, and I have yet to buy one. So, I started making my own. I know I will not spend hundreds on a knife. I can't get it into my mind that they are worth it. I wonder why you did not mention the Condor knives. I have looked at the Onterio Butcher knives. People are raving about them. I may buy one, beacuse they are full tang, high carbon steel, and don't cost much, Yeah, you have to do a little work on them, but people say good things about 'em.

    Say Heah Brian, I started putting together a Major Trio, I got the Gerber Profile, mine hasnt chipped or cracked on blade Heh heh, my Hatchet I'm including in this trio is the Kobalt Hatchet with the Fiberglass handle, and it matches in color with the Profile, and the say is a Sierra. All three cost me around $ 60.00. I just want to compare this set to some of my other knives. It should be interesting. This is not a joke, nor will I not care how I, m using this set because their inexpensive. But I will use them as if they cost more and I just wa t to see how they hold up. I know you had your profile a couple of years and it seemed you were pretty happy with it, and I felt your sadness when it broke. The Kobalt Hatchet has some good reviews for the money, and the Sierra Saw I just got it at a good price, the clearance price was under $10.00, but on the package it says it's a carbon steel blade and I think their made in the U.S.A. I'm just curious to see if they hold up, and I'm not looking down on them because I know what they cost, but a none bias test on them as my go to set in this test as if that's all I could afford.

    I like your videos in general. Also, it's nice to see the Glock as I am from Austria. As for the Mora 2: It's true that nothing protects you from slipping onto the blade, but at the same time you're where the action takes place when doing push cuts, splendid leverage then. That's the reason there's no hilt or whatsoever. So that's both dangerous for kids, but awesome for careful users. The tang ends 2 cm from the end, I don't see how decent use would result in that being a problem. I've seen full tang knives broken, never seen a Mora fail, but probably Mora-users don't abuse their knives. :-) In short: The Mora is probably even better than you might think.

    The Glock is also designed to be a bayonet. If you remove the plastic cap, it fits over a stud and the "bottle opener " then locks it onto the rifle used by some European militaries.
    Another RUclipsr tapped the hole and inserted a SS bolt for pounding. Might be effective to create a spear with a walking stick with the appropriate threaded stud and good contact between the stick end and the knife/bayonet butt. IIRC, the threaded stud needs to be 8mm.

    Actually, you don't have to have a certain kind of blade material to throw sparks off a firesteel. Not only will any metal do, you can even use the sharp edge of a glass bottle or other sharp objects to do that (if it's all you have). It's the firesteel making the sparks, not the knife.

    Say Heah Brain, I like watching re-run videos, This one came up again, I like that because it gives me to see if there's any evolution in my thinking. Yeah, I hear you safety I'd paramount for me too. But I use my kitchen knives alot. Sure I'm careful, but they don't have hand guards and I rarely cut myself. Mors Kochansky really chocks up on his blades and the reason is he said the closer the hand to the blade the better the control and I agree. Londin uses his head along with the capability of the knife. He used his Mora Classic since around 1992 and he cuts down alot of samplings without chopping them but cutting through the fibers, also starting a fire, you can start one by using smalls. That's why I do like a large knife for my survival knife. It just makes me feel more confident having a large knife in God forgive a survival situation. I just got my Ratweiler it's a Beast. No I can carve a netting needle with it, I can't but maybe in a skilled hands, they can. But I can make a functioning spoon with mine. I teamed mine with a Rodent Solution, and I added a Saw so when I use this combo I don't need another chopper which allows me to move faster scouting a new area out. Knife selection us important to me. Even with my new set-up which I really like and I'm getting very used to using such a large knife as a One Tool Option. I still luv carrying my Mora 510 as my neck knife even though the Rodent Solution is part of that carry. But I know where your coming from on safety, After all your a Scout Leader and I'm sure that you stress safety alot and I totally agree with that.

      Sure, But I'm talking in general in situations where you might be away your pack and just left with what's on you at the time. I do practice using a large knife as a One Tool Option even though I multi knife carry. That's why I like to carry a neck knife and my on person knife usually is the larger knife even though I might have a smaller knife which I attach to my front start on my pack. This way if your best survival knife is the one thats in you at that time, I have two.

    Hi, that wooden Mora, you don't think is safe enough, I believe it's made like that so you could choke up on the blade, but most of all is to get the angle so so you can plane with it, it's easier to select an angle to duplicate a wood plane, if you ever watch Mors Kochanski plane a piece of wood, it's as smooth as a babies bottim, so you don't have to sand it much, like when making a paddle, the people that use knives like that are wood carvers in survival, they make a lot of things just to survive.

    • @SurvivalOnPurpose
      @SurvivalOnPurpose  10 лет назад

      Don't get me wrong, I like my Mora classic, I just don't think it's the best or safest knife for a beginner. I agree with you, it's a really good knife for doing really nice bushcraft work, especially with the emphasis on the craft part. And I, by the way, am not even close to Mors Kochanski in skill or knowledge. He's one of my favorite teachers. Thanks for watching and contributing to the discussion Paulie, I appreciate it. - Bryan

    Two inexpensive, non technical modifications to the sheaths follow. You can find on youtube how to put 550 cord on the outside of the Mora and Glock sheaths. Then, over that, you place a couple of SF rubber bands which are nothing more than narrow sections of old bicycle inner tube. Then you can secure a firestarter, a small kit or whatever else you want to have with the knife.

  • @calebwhittington3749
    @calebwhittington3749 10 лет назад

    The mora classic is not at all a "do it all" survival knife. For that you need something for batoning, chopping and picking as well cutting and carving of course. The mora classic is strictly a carving and notching knife. Its a light and simple woodscraft knife. For a survival knife(as you said) need a full tang knife with a beefier blade for heavier tasks. But the mora is fine for a light woodscraft knife, its even better when paired with an axe or saw.

    • @SurvivalOnPurpose
      @SurvivalOnPurpose  10 лет назад

      I hear you, but Mors Kochanski, Cody Lundin and many others with way better credentials than me all list the Mora and similarly styled knives as an good choice for a survival knife. I personally will always do my best to make sure I have a heavy duty, full tang knife with me; but if all I had to spend on a knife was $15 I would feel pretty confident in carrying my Mora, even if things got ugly. In my opinion, it is one of the best values you'll find in a low priced knife.

      Rich Goldstone You have some good points, I guess when I say I prefer a fixed blade it's because if I wind up in a bad situation with just the gear on my person, I stand a better chance of having my belt knife on me than a hatchet. Ideally I would have both a belt knife and my Victorinox Fieldmaster, since I usually have it in my pocket . Along with at least a couple of ferro rods and a Bic lighter. And I would not want to have to baton with my Opinel No9. It might do OK, but I'd hate to risk it.

    Working on the assumption that the term "survival" knife should indicate a knife that would be quite likely the only tool that you have with you when the situation presents itself, shouldn't that knife be one capable of doing everything from skinning small game to processing wood and making some sort of shelter? The Mora is a great little paring knife, but I wouldn't want to depend on it to accomplish anything like cutting limbs to construct a shelter. You don't have to have a Trailmaster or a BK9, but I would think that a 4 to 5 inch blade, 3/16 of an inch spine, would be much more suitable in a life and death situation.

    Nice vid, but I don't like Gerber Knives. And Mora isn't full tang, The Glock knife Is a dagger really. For a good Cheap knife try a Old Hickory butcher knife. I would replace the handle tho. Look on here at all the vids on how to make a Old Hickory into a good bushcraft knife.

    • @SurvivalOnPurpose
      @SurvivalOnPurpose  10 лет назад

      I've got an Old Hickory and it is a good knife for sure. I didn't have one when I made this video, but I still think all of these are good choices, except maybe the Gerber Profile, which is no longer made. I actually pretty much abused this one to failure in another video but Gerber still was willing to warranty it. I have to say I do like Gerber, I have several Gerber knives and have no complaints. I even have the - dare I say it - Bear Grylls Ultimate Survival Knife and I have been beating it up for a few months just to see if it is as big a piece of junk as so many people say. So far it is doing just fine. And as for Mora, full tang or not, if you were caught in a real survival situation and all you had was a Mora you could do a whole lot worse. I have put my Companion to some pretty hard use and it has not let me down. In my opinion, the skill of the user is a big factor in the success of the tool, as long as it isn't a total piece of junk.Bottom line, are any of these the "perfect" survival knife? Of course not, I don't even think such a thing exists. These are just 4 knives I consider good values. There are certainly many others out there. We are fortunate to live in a time when technology has allowed the manufacture of some pretty good quality knives at a good price. Thanks for taking the time to watch and comment. - Bryan

    If you don't want to mess up any of your knives that don't have a finger guard with any type of friction tape, there is a choice in grip. In general, most knives with no finger guard aren't designed to be used in a stabbing manner, they are made for slicing and other tasks a conventional paring knife would be used. It's not one knife for ever job, but sometimes you need to improvise in the pinch. If you absolutely need to use it in a stab/jabbing motion and you don't have (for any reason) any friction tape on the blade grab the knife in a manner that puts the butt of the knife handle against the inside of your pinkie finger. This way if you slip your pinkie will act as a back stop to prevent the rest of your hand going forward. Granted, it's uncomfortable, but better than stitches. Try it, it works, and you're welcome.

      I understand, I have a similar knife it was made for the Desert Storm War, it was made by General Cutlery, same people that made the Canadian version of the M-7, which the difference is the Canadian ' s used Stainless Steel, it's the same stainless as the bayo's, it's called the Desert Tan, but it's tactical, and I'm more bush, so I think I'll pass for now, although I heard a lot of good things about the Glock's, my favorite knives are the Swamp Rat's, I started with the Ratmandu, and I have it in the INFI Steel too, then the Rodent 9, then the Rodent Solution, recently I bought the Rodent 7 which is my favorite 7" blade, and I also have the Rodent Rucki, man what a chopper, it has a choil, and is made out of the SR101, great stuff, it looks like something a ninja would use, but for shelter building, clearing out a camp, and or a shooting lane, it's great, alot of people don't think they have any use for it, but believe me, I have no regrets, check out the S.R.K.W. Rodent Waki, the two are very similar to eachother, and that's why I got it, I just bought my Rodent 6, but I had the top gaurd taken off, and now it look's like a beefy Ratmandu on steriods, and the Rodent 4, I'm thinking of getting some piggyback sheath's for my Swampies, and I over shoulder carry the Rucki, and to increase my Busse Combat Knives, on order I'm getting the Fussion Steel Heart, boy was Santa ever good to me, he started it off on my B'Day, and so far so good, don't get me wrong, I really like my Fallkniven's, and my Bark River's, especially in the 3V, anyhow, I hope you don't think I'm bragging, but I really enjoy my bush, especially having a hot cup of coffee on the open fire, it doesn't get any better, if I haven't wished you a Happy Holiday, I wish You a Merry Christmas, and a Happy, Healthy, Prosperous, New Year. I really enjoy your videos, take care, good job.

    I personally would not carry those blades, but if one has a low budget there better than no knife. I believe that your knife is more important than your gun in the bush because if you know your limits, it will not malfunction. If you trek through the bush ,choose your knife wisely and hopefully you wont have to bet your life on your knife. Happy Bushwacking kemosabes

    • @SurvivalOnPurpose
      @SurvivalOnPurpose  10 лет назад

      I hear what you say but I think if one has a low budget, these are better than a lot of other knives. That's the point of this video, to show some lower cost knives that are still a good quality knife and are a good value. I do need to point out that the Gerber Profile failed in a later video, even though I was pushing it beyond any reasonable limit and certainly beyond what i would do in the field if it was my only blade. The Profile fixed blade is now discontinued anyway, but I just wanted to make sure I pointed that out. Thanks for watching - Bryan

      The above backs up what 508MASS378 said.

    To make your own sheath, it is hard to beat old truck inner tube rubber as a material, stitched with stainless wire.. Unlike some leather, it has no salt to rust the blade. It doesn't absorb water, and it is tough as you can want. You could probably make it into a slingshot in a pinch.
    Unfortunately, it is as ugly as home made sin. But it sure works well.

    Nice review but you do get what you pay for (within reason of course) when it comes to knives and of course it depends on what the intended tasks for the knife are going to be will somewhat determine how long it holds up for (if it isn't a real survival situation that dictates the use of a knife to save your ass or someone else's. Ok that Glock, I've had one in my hands and yes, it's a real bargain, Austrian made too. Good vid for youngsters who can't or parents who don't want to spend big bucks on something someone might loose interest in. I subbed too

      Bush Camping Tools I agree that there are reasons to pay more money for some things but I also think sometimes there is a little bit of ego involved. I have some fairly expensive knives and some lower priced knives and I have to admit that some of my lower priced knives are just as useful and rugged, just maybe not as pretty. And as for the Moras they are almost a no-brainer. Thanks for watching and subscribing.

      Hi, totally right, like my 20 year old plus Spec Plus from Ontario knives, cheap looking and cheap but still functions and serves me well. Yes there are big egos out there and I've got a real problem with manufacturers knives made from cheap steel but carry huge price tags. Yes the Mora's don't even need to prove themselves.

      Man, we could go down a long road on this one, but I just got back from camping and I'm tired. There are so many opinions about knives and which ones are best for what. I will say that Cody Lundin uses the Mora No 1 and, whether you like him or not, his credentials are pretty good. I beat the heck out of the Mora Companion in a different video review and it held up fine. Mora Companion Test - Survival on a Shoestring It is also sharp as a razor. The verdict is still out on the Gerber, I chipped the blade on this one in a later review. Gerber Profile vs Knotty Oak - Real World Knife Review As for the Glock, I like it but the unmodified version failed 2 important tests in my separate review video. Glock Survival Knife Review - Survival On A Shoestring line, there is no perfect knife and everyone has their opinions. It has been said many times that the best survival knife is the one you have on you when you need it. Thanks for watching and sharing your thoughts. That's how we all learn from each other, - Bryan
