Chris Botti plays so smooth and sounds so beautiful. He doesn't blare high notes like Maynard Ferguson, but he has his own amazing and unique style. Definitely should have young trumpet players listen to him

Absolutely the most heartfelt and emotionally invoking performance of this piece I have ever heard. It was amazing to hear him carry the high E at the end beautifully, very fitting with the accompanying piano part; had me in tears. He has my vote to play it again at the Super Bowl as well.

I hope they'll invite him to play at the Super Bowl. I knew the moment it started that it was something special. I think it fit perfectly being played in New York. Made me think of Taxi Driver and New York State of Mind. I can certainly see how it would make someone emotional, I was practically experiencing it myself. I don't remember ANYONE crying when Christina Aguilera did it!
I don't get why they can't just have the local symphony or choir do it. There'd be much less controversy that way.

I have always preferred the up-tempo version of this song. The slow ones where, more often than not, someone is trying to show off their voice, are far less appealing - at least to me.. Besides which, it’s a song about war and fighting. There are times I think it should be played almost as if it was a waltz. Or maybe it’s just the fact that I wish the game would start. Well, somebody has now changed my mind, at least in one instance. What I find interesting is the fact that my preferred performances really address the lyrics, which is where the words sound like they are a history book being brought to life. If you click on this link will get to hear that, probably for the first and only time, someone figured out how to turn it into a love song. Maybe part of the secret is being “lyricless.”

I feel, the only reason this felt odd to most listeners, is because the accompaniment was playing a typical part. It just seemed to contrast the trumpet line too much. I think solo would have been better personally. But whatever, amazing performance.
