Byron Scott underrated for a guy who averaged 20+ on a championship team in 88’.
hes like the klay thomson of the lakers
@@mikem4904 That is a pretty good comparison.
@@mikem4904 he’s not as good as Klay but that’s a solid comp
What about James worthy he like the little brother of showtime lakers Kareem the big brother and magic the second brother so Byron the baby brother yeah Byron was a beast on that 3 point line
@@joejames9974 I feel like “Big game” Janes gets his due (top 50/75) that that he earned and deserves. Imagine if Wiggins was drafted to the Warriors, like Worthy to the lakers.
I love how Byron gave us his secret in guarding Jordan. Never piss him off

Exactly
Nah i would love to piss off MJ just like what Gary Payton did
@@ruthgregorio650 Okay go do you then
And made it public AFTER they retired.

"The rookie? Shiiiiiiiiiid 50!!!" 😂😂😂
This version better than the one he gave on Dan Patrick's show.
He couldn't speak how he wanted on there im glad he told it again fasho 🤣
Yeh, I noticed that.
If Scott added the part about telling MJ "Good shot, Mike" after MJ made a jump shot, it would've been epic.
xD
I love both versions. It's like hearing the same album in a different mix, it's just amazing.
“Don’t even worry about the play, I’mma catch it right over there and shoot it and there ain’t a damn thing y’all can do about it” Larry Bird, ladies and gentlemen
I heard the same story on another video.
I'll never forget Barkley at the Sixers, game winding down and he's fouling the heck out of Larry in the post and Larry still just took the ball and made the shot, leaving Barkley falling to the floor. Back then regular fouls didn't deter guys like MJ and Bird. You had to go full Bad Boy Pistons mode to try to stop them.

@@FreedomFighter2112 it would be cool to know what their percentages were in the clutch as well.
I'm 56 and I LOVE watching these older guys talk about their playing days, especially the inside info. Thanks for posting
In another 20 years, this current NBA players won't have interesting stories, I'll bet. As boring, soft and uncompetitive as the game is now.
The 80's, what a great decade for basketball 🏀
80s and 90s...
Nothing like the basketball between the pro’s & college in the 80’s
Yea the 1990s were great too but the 80s were the cream of the crop of basketball
I lived through both and both were truly amazing. There's no tougher era for Basketball than the 80's and in the 90's you got to see the culmination of some absolutely bonkers superstars when that term actually meant something. But at least from my experience, the 80's was the top for the NBA as a league and basketball as a whole.
We (the older ones) are blessed of being able to see these guys play... 80&90s have been such an outstanding era for Basketball... Real defense, real men....
The younger generation(s) don't understand what they missed. Those that know, know.
“It’s not shit-talking if he’s backing it up. It’s just talking!” Larry Legend
Damn, B Scott played during the LEGENDARY era. 80s into the 90s. The golden age of the NBA. Bird & Magic, Kareem, Sir Charles, the Bad Boys, Hakeem, Ewing, Dominique, Shawn Kemp during his Rain Man era with the Glove, Orlando Shaq with Penny, Stockton-to-Malone, and of course, the GOAT, MJ. He got to play with and against the best of the best to ever do it.
Understandably, too many stars in that era, Dr. J , Mosses Malone, the Twin towers of Hakeem Olajuwan and Ralph Sampson, Marquees Johnson, Bernard King, and many more missing on your list.
My favorite from Larry was when he pump-faked dude and as the defender flew by, he said, "welcome to the parachute club." And of course, he drained the 3.
That was Brad Daugherty he did that to. Daugherty was a real good center. Had back problems and didn't play long but he made about 5 all star teams
@@mongoslade277 Actually the Parachute club was against Rodney Rogers, but the Brad Daugherty one he told Brad "Fly Bird" as he went by. Chris Webber was the one who told the Rodney Rogers story. You should heard the one by Jamal Mashburn. That is a really good one as well.

Michael Cooper one of the best defenders of all time
That’s why his #21 should be retired
@@reneelopez604 FR!!! Coop for me is not only one of the best defenders.. But i dare say, he's the best defender of all time.
“I had to torch his ass so they would understand”😂
Charles Barkley tells a similar story of Bird being pissed off by the Sixers putting a white guy on him to defend him. He hated being guarded by white players. He felt it was disrespectful to his game and he made them pay for it.
It's amazing that back in the day, these guys were literally at each other's throats but today have nothing but utter love and respect like brothers.
That's the mindset of a competitor. During your playing years, you're at each other. After retirement you got nothing but love for each other.
Also, they left it on the court during the game. They did all they could on the court to win- whether fair or foul- but afterwards it was all good between them. Real recognized real.
That was on the court.
Off the court there was a lot of respect towards each other.
Except that crybaby Isaiah Thomas.
Probably most of them except for people like Bird and Laimbeer. To this day they hate each other.
Byron Scott was in the thick of it in those days. He played against the best, and with the best. That Laker team was one of the best of all time.

Are you Bryant's agent?
Byron had insane hops like Westbrook for a 6'4" guy....grew up watching Showtime Lakers
Bird is, was, and always will be the word
Imagine being able to play against Bird and Jordan and playing with Magic?
That's it right there!
B Scott used to get buckets too. Leading scorer on the squad during the 88 championship season. Unsung hero during Showtime
I love how B Scott loves and respects his legendary opponents, telling these stories with such enthusiasm. He's a fan like us, while also being a great player in his time on an all-time team.
That era of the NBA is missed!!
I always enjoy listening to Byron Scott. He respects his opponents (Bird, Jordan) and he’s very entertaining telling these old stories. I could listen to this stuff all day.
That cleared up a lot about Larry Bird. It all makes sense now.
B. Scott does a decent MJ impression. Can really imagine MJ saying it exactly like that.
Exactly, I heard it in Jordan's voice
He told that MJ story on the Dan Patrick show a few years ago and it’s still just as funny !
Bird was borderline racist againts white players (in a joking way obviously) lmao that's some bad ass shit man. fr fr
Yet he played with Kevin Mchale, a hall of famer, and Danny Ainge, a cold blooded shooter. So it must have been just trash talk.
@@udishomer5852 thanks for clearing that up it's not like he did that himself in his statement LOL
i used his angles when i played lol ... so funny.
@@udishomer5852 well hes white
I’m the same way when I play. Don’t disrespect me with a white defender. Give me a brother so I can fuck him up
Scott knows how to tell a story. Bravo.
Larry talked the talk and walked the walk
"Get him off me!" 😂
Love Larry's attitude!
"Shiddd 50" 😂😂😂
Insane 😂
Everybody loves Larry. Fan, Teammates, or opponents. Magic embraced "showtime". It followed Larry without saying a word.
Bird & Magic rivalry brought NBA rating up 🏆🏆🏆🇺🇸 .
at this point Im convinced that Larry is the best B-Ball trash talker of all time....the greatest trash talkers of all time said that hes the greatest trash talker of all time basically
People are fooled by his skin color. He trash talked like nobody else
Read up on the fight he had with Dr. J. Erving's career was winding down and a young Larry Bird was out playing him trash talking him the entire game. Dr. J had enough and took a swing.
I love Magic's stories about playing against Bird and everyone questioning him when he went home about how good Larry was. He said he would tell them that dude is plain out badass on the court!
The exact reply from Magic (about how good Bird was), "Man, Larry Bird is so good it's frightening!" While Jordan is generally seen as the GOAT, I don't think there is another NBA player who garnered more respect from Magic than Bird did. Bird obviously also has THE highest respect for Magic, but Magic not only GREATLY respects Larry Bird, but he'll go out of his way to (verbally) defend Bird, as well. Ahhh those were the days!!
@@mikes3827 Bird and Magic were great competitors and peers that became great friends. MJ didn't have any peers. Players they assumed would be became roadkill for Mike. Bird and Magic have a very special bond so you understand why they talk like that about each other.
@@mpound97 Yes agree. But also the fact that Hollywood couldn't have written a better script (i.e. white, blue-collar player playing for the most storied, blue-collar city vs. black guy with the outgoing personality and glamour going to the perfect city to host him), just having come off THE highest-rated basketball game ever that just happened to pit Bird vs. Magic, so there was already an unprecedented national (even international) fascination as it related to Bird-Magic.
Then both saved the languishing NBA, as the league BADLY needed re-branding, and what better two players than Magic and Bird to do that?
At this point, whether either of them wants to admit it, BOTH players are intertwined, as sooner vs. later both names will usually come up in conversation when talking about one or the other name. Then both realized HOW much they liked each other as human beings, when they had that famous Converse commercial at French Lick, so that just brought them closer. Then the reaction by both to the news of Magic getting HIV REALLY, REALLY made them VERY close.
Like I say, no other all-encompassing a relationship between two adversarial pro athletes has ever been greater than Bird-Magic.
MJ and Larry funny af 😂
Byron Scott is a true players coach. What a great conversation about the game and the great appreciation for the game.
If I'm not mistaken Byron Scott quoted Larry Bird as saying "Michael Cooper was the best defender I ever faced". I was lucky enough to be around when Cooper played. Man, I loved that guy. Cooper would ratchet up his defense on great players like Jordan and Bird and actually hold them in check. Those were times I will always treasure. I lived in SoCal and watched the championships.
not to mention Coop-A-Loop that always ratcheted up the fans
Larry need to do some interviews! I would love to hear more stories from him.
He pretends it never happened. McHale and Ainge, his teammates have the best stories about him though.
@@marykuettner752 a bit sad we can't hear it from Bird, he's like the quietly funny uncle nowadays -- looks serious/somber 90% of the time, but will occasionally crack a joke or a smile or even laugh while telling a hilarious story.
@@m3gusta17 my favorite was his speech at the Dream Team induction at the HOF
I recommend watching the documentary of Magic and Larry. It is just a great documentary.
Larry is real humble about it, all these funny and great stories come from others.
I remember that Charles Barkley told this story about Bird and he said he laughed so hard and didn't have a comeback to that
There’s also the story about Bird chirping the Cavs when they put Craig Ehlo on him.
Every word came out from Larry's mouth is a trash talk and he always back it up
I can listen to Byron Scott tell stories all day!
Larry and MJ two absolute monsters! If Bird didn’t have back problems he would be 1b to MJ in GOAT talk.
Yeah his back definitely slowed him down. He would’ve had 3-4 more years in the league.
REAL TALK! YOU ARE SPOT ON! IVE BEEN SAYING FOR YEARS there are no better trash talk stories them Mike's & Larry's, nobody phux with them point blank, oh & btw you wont find 2 better players when it comes to 'highlight reels'' its endless with these 2 goats!!!
@@jsan8304 Yet till they day he retired Larry was still catching bodies every game. Couldn't even sit down on the sideline, had to lay down on the floor. THAT'S a will to win we'll never see again.
Larry is the GOAT. Oh... what was that, MJ could never beat Larry in the playoffs... It took Larry to retire for MJ to step up.
@@jonlanier_ that was funny af! lol you sound like a 12 year old troll

That is authentic larry bird and jordan. They knew they were on a higher level and if you put them up against a weak defender they will rip that poor guy apart piece by piece until the coach has no choice. Honestly they need a one liner list from larry. Im sure it would be a riot.
Friday nights and the Celtics/Bird usually a home game. ..Great time to be a young sports fan in Boston.
Good to see ya Uncle Byron..we want more😈🍻🍺
Admire how MJ really the man of his words when it comes to trash talk. Said 50 and really dropped 54.
I love the 80's legends I know there has to be lots of trash talking but to back up like MJ and LB is fun to hear it told by BS a former laker😉😉😉
Love hearing these players telling stories about what happened inside the game. Gives a great perspective on how it really was.
Larry Legend Ladies and Gents
Byron''s story legit sounds real. Both bird and mj stories sound so believable and so cocky. But I get the impression that bird talked more shit than mj we just have a hard time bleieving it cus he's so white and with a mullet. But i think that's what would have made it even worse as a defender, an unathletic white dude who talks trash and backs it up
MJ said that LB is the best trash talker and mind game player of all time, and that he learned a lot from him about getting in the head of the opponents, so yeah...the mullet could definitely be deceiving.
Lol 😆 that old mullet was a bad dude tho ..
Jordan said himself , he learned how to talk trash from Bird.
Jordan went for 54 and lost with Sam "Big Smooth" Perkins the leading scorer for LA.
Bird isn't unathletic he's just not super athletic lol but ik what ya mean
when the NBA was a real professional league and it was genuinely fun watching and following a real competitive and tough sport.
He was just a soft-spoken, and helpful savage who never wanted his opponents to be surprised with a loss.
"A hard 39"... 😂
To be a fly on the wall…
I love sports but basketball is the love of my life.
No Matter how many times I hear these same stories over and over again, I smile each and every time 😁
one thing we forget was in the late 80s and 90s throughout, the avg score of the games were 70-90, 100 would be a very high scoring game, so MJ avg 30+ most of his seasons (37.1 at peak) was literally avg 50% of the offense, that would be same as someone avg'n 60 today. And the scary part was his avg would go up in the playoffs, and further go up in the finals where he avg 40+ vs the suns, even his last finals game he gave 45 while the score was 87-86.
The average score during that period was never close to 70, I don't know where you read that off
Average score in the 80s = 109.3.
Average score in the 90s = 101.3.
However MJ was a major part of Chicago’s scoring and the best scorer in NBA history.
@@lcfitvids even lower in the 00's = 96.9
Bc they took out the illegal defence. so now teams could double , triple team at will, zone defences you name it and Kobe averaged 35.4ppg
@@imjasonlopez he average that for 1 year. Not the whole 2000’s
