Think a more fair comparison would be to rotate after each bite or within a smaller time frame. Conditions can change to rapidly in longer time frames.

I like using a heavy cane-pole with 50lb test line, a split shot weight and a strong long shank j-hook. For bait I like to use relatively small pieces of shrimp and blue claw crab legs

The rig I use is a 1/0 live bait hook with a splitshot less than a cm from the hook. I used to use smaller jigs but hook tip would bend because of the sheephead teeth.

Hey Brother great Job!! Up here in North Carolina these Sheep's only deal with fiddler crabs, barnacle's and sand fiddlers. I wish they would eat a worm or a piece of shrimp, It's funny how the same species have different feeding habits but that has a lot to do with different and available bait in our particular areas but that's what keeps us anglers on our toes....

that is one of my favorite rigs for sheepshead. I also like a knocker rig or a swing jig. Oh and i totally agree about letting the big ones go. Those fish are likely pretty old by the time they get that big, it doesnt sit right with me just killing them.

I fished that spot last weekend. Met a friend of yours from Alabama we tried the earth worms and didn’t have any luck. I caught all of mine on barnacles which was a first for me and also landed my PB sheep at 22”. I’m ready for the trout to move back into the “so called surf” around here but I’m sure gonna miss the sheepshead.

I don’t think the worms get ate as fast as other baits but I do think that if that bait sits down there in front of a sheepshead he is going to eat it eventually. The worms are kind of a back up if you don’t have anything else or can’t afford anything else.
