    Thanks to Toasty Bros I just bult my own P520. I did the W-2135, 32 gb ram ($174 eBay), 1 tb Teamgroup M.2 ($41 Amazon) and a MSI RTX- 3060 12 gb ($289 Amazon) windows 11, $504 total. I went with Nvidia cause I hear it is better for Davinci Resolve, it dose seem to do great! Dose Halo Infinite 1440P medium settings right around 100fps . Love this machine, I couldn't be happier. Building one for my 11 year old son soon.

      I just stumbled upon this video, because I was looking to build a budget "Davinci Resolve" build that also does gaming, and your comment is exactly what I was looking for! How is it performing with Resolve? 1080p or 4k editing?

    • @wishbone20t
      @wishbone20t 11 месяцев назад

      @@Chimarocks67 Very easy, just follow along on the toasty bro's P520 builds and I think you'll know everything there is to know. First I had to install the m.2 drive, that's very simple. And then the video card. Install windows from a thumb drive and it was done

    • @wishbone20t
      @wishbone20t 11 месяцев назад +1

      @@wholesomejoe Work flawlessly for DaVinci resolve, I really only done 1080p. I'm sure a 6 core CPU, and a RTX 3060 12 gig video card will handle 4K quite nicely, I render 1080p videos in just a few minutes. For gaming, I have a Dell ultrasharp 1440p 25-inch. Since completing this bill that I have become addicted to Halo Infinite. 1440p medium settings. The video card handles it perfectly and never goes over 66°, rarely see the CPU go over 50%. To be honest with you, I don't know how the game could look any better or work any better. It's the best video game experience I've ever had. I was initially thinking about upgrading to the 2145 8 core CPU, but I just really don't think I need to. I will upgrade to the 64 gigs of RAM for 4 channel because it's only $30. Other than that, I don't think I need any upgrades.

      @@knucklehead4817 I just checked his store and he doesn't have any more P520 listed. Let me help you out and this is how I get it. Search for a "Lenovo P520 2135" then select low to high pricing, the lowest price ones will be at the top. The biggest difference is you're going to see is how much RAM is pre-installed. For 16 to 32 gigs you're going to see them right at about $200 or little under. One little trick that worked out for me, I saved the one I bought to my wishlist, the next afternoon they dropped it like $20. I think it was initially listed at $199, when they dropped at 20 bucks I bought it then, that's how I got it for 179. If you find one your interested in you might send a reasonable offer and get a little discount as well. Good luck! I hardly recommend this build. As they say you don't have to go with the $289 new card, You could get a good used card and save some money there. I chased a bunch of used cards in my local market and found it was always difficult. So I popped on a new one

    This is a really good build guide for one of these machines... between these refurb workstation builds and AliExpress Xeon kits, there are so many low cost of entry options with lots of computing power out there for the gamers that might be starting out. The refurb machines are a great choice for people that aren't comfortable with building their own machine, but might be okay with adding a couple extra pieces.
    If the P520 isn't available, the HP Z workstations and Dell Precision workstations are out there in comparable configurations... just in case anyone watching this video is looking for something similar, but it sounds like PCSP might be the place to shop at the time of this video's release.
    Really helpful video, guys!

    This actually turned out to be a pretty good idea. Several people told me they did well with this. I even spoke to a guy that installed a RTX 3090 in this, although he got the W-2145 8 core -16T CPU, which I picked up as well, and he told me there are some games that bottleneck (which would be the case, a 3090 is a total powerhouse next to this cpu) but in general he sees very good performance. He gave me some ideas for thermal solutions, which included removing the front fan brackets with pliers and installing 2 120mm RGB fans in place and 2 120mm fans at the bottom. He simply used well placed zip ties to hold the fans in place, and apparently the mobo has 4 extra fan headers, which makes it all work. Cheers.

    The Toasty Bros kind of missed this, but even if you are going for "only" 16GB of RAM (which is perfectly fine, btw), you should ABSOLUTELY go for 4x4 or 4x8 (for 32).
    These systems have quad channel memory. The extra bandwidth you get from that is quite significant. Don't miss out on it. Especially more modern games scale well with bandwidth.

    • @yasu_red
      @yasu_red 11 месяцев назад +2

      It always bothers me when I see that. 2 sticks is usually fine on consumer platforms, but you might as well use all of the memory channels on workstations. They aren't capable of using fast speeds so you can get away with using a bunch of dirt cheap sticks.

    • @czos9239
      @czos9239 11 месяцев назад +3

      I even see that from channels that mention the quad thing and then stick in two. Not to mention the hexa channel with two…

    • @bradbrad6521
      @bradbrad6521 11 месяцев назад +2

      It's more practical to buy a budget computer with 2 sticks with the option of adding 2 more when needed over starting off with 4 and needed to do a whole ram swap to upgrade

    • @b0ne91
      @b0ne91 11 месяцев назад +6

      @@bradbrad6521I don't think you understand how quad channel works. This isn't about filling all 4 slots (those boards usually have 8), it's about filling the CHANNELS. You know how they usually tell you to get 2 sticks of RAM, because you lose performance from single channel?
      Some CPUs are capable of 4, 6 or even 8 channels. You should fill them all.

    • @bradbrad6521
      @bradbrad6521 11 месяцев назад

      did you even read my comment?
      yes I fully understand that! but if you are buying a budget OEM pc you might be on you know, a budget.
      If you fill all the slots with 4gb sticks you will have to spend a lot more money to add ram later, compared to 8gb sticks ( I thank we can agree 16gb are still not a good option on a budget )
      I do get we are talking a max savings of around $75 but still it could matter.@@b0ne91

  • @yasu_red
    @yasu_red 11 месяцев назад +21

    As someone else mentioned, these systems would benefit from getting at least 4 sticks of RAM since these old Xeons support 4 memory channels. They aren't capable of using fast modules so having more channels utilized more than makes up for that.

      Storage: 512GB Samsung NVME drive + 1TB Samsung 2.5" SATA HDD
      GPU: Powercolor Fighter AMD Radeon RX6600 8GB
      Do you think I would benefit by getting 2 more sticks of the same ram that’s in it to make it 32g total, quad channel ? It would cost me about $30 to do. This is my only, do it all computer..game,edit photo/video,general home/work tasks

    Thank you so much for this video Toasty Bros!!! I just ordered one of these myself from PCSP on Ebay, I went with the W-2145/no ram/hdd/os one since I had a higher budget and the clock speeds are the same as the 2135. I also got 16gb of 2666mhz ram, and a 1tb Crucial gen 3 nvme ssd. Total price was $369. I have a GTX 1080ti that I've been dying to put to work, so this was the video I needed. The cpu won't bottleneck too much at 1080p, but I'm planning on trying 1440p out since it diminishes all of the bottleneck for games. I'll update this comment when I get everything and try it out!! Edit: Just got my p520 and it works flawlessly!! Will definitely be my daily driver. And yes, I liked my own comment.

The added performance is worth it compared to my old system.

I also do a lot of video editing for various social media platforms. Do you guys have any suggestions or recommendations on a pc that will fit that budget? I currently do all my editing on a early 2015 MacBook Pro 13 with IMovie.

      Xeon W-2133, 2135 both are 6 core 12 thread. W-2145 is 8 core 16 thread. If you go 10 core or above they start getting really expensive and the individual core clock drops. So you're best off sticking with those three.
