- My agenda is just to help you learn to think biblically about everything. I WISH I could share my original, uncut video analysis of a typical Osteen sermon but, for the time being, this will be the best I can do.
I do this for educational purposes.
This is Joel Osteen’s original sermon. I didn’t pick it because it was worse than others he does. I didn’t pick it because it suited my purposes. Back when I started preparing my first video on Osteen this was just the most recent message he had given. My original critique and analysis included a lot more content but I had to cut it down a lot to avoid the copyright claims of Lakewood Church. • Let It Go | Joel Osteen

He didn't practice what he preached
I didn't know who JO was. I wasn't a Christian. One day I was channel surfing and for some reason I stopped on a JO sermon. I don't recall him asking for money, but I do recall him saying, find an evangelical, bible-based church. Later that week I was driving down the road and heard, as clearly as if someone were in the passenger seat, a voice say you're going to that church on Sunday. I looked to my passenger seat where the voice came from and out the window was a church I had never noticed set back from the road. I went home and told my husband, we're going to that church Sunday. We went and my journey to/with Jesus began that day. It is an evangelical, Bible based church. I accept that JO and the prosperity gospel are not of God, but the sermon that day spoke to something in my heart and today, I'm proud to claim myself a slave of Christ Jesus.
God uses all things and people for GOOD . FOR THOSE called according to his purposes !

I love that, but it's proof that God is faithful to save you from making a wrong turn right on time, and He uses any instrument He so chooses, sometimes in spite of them. He did, after all prophecy, through the words of the high priest who decided to crucify Him in John 11:
49 But one of them, Cai'aphas, who was high priest that year, said to them, 50 ....you do not understand that it is expedient for you that one man should die for the people that the whole nation should not perish."
That was the Holy Spirit telling you to find a church, despite the teaching of JO not because of it. Glad you found a great Biblical church. It’s kind of ironic, because JO does not have the type of church that he advised you to seek out. Praise God. He works in mysterious ways. 🙏🏼

I believe I first got the invitation to give my life to Jesus when I was 16 years old, I remember feeling something and surrendering in my heart to Jesus. The first preacher I came across was Osteen, and never was convicted of sin, never was I told the truth of the gospel. So very shortly after that invitation was extended to me I went straight back into the path I was headed, which was new age practices. About 8-9 years later deeply entrenched in the new age I cried out on the name of Jesus and He saved me. I share this to say that preachers like this are dangerous because they don’t talk about sin, or even why Jesus died on the cross for us. They are using the gospel as some sort of self-development tool. And if Joel Osteen were the only one to have told me the gospel, or the only ‘Christian’ that I had ever come across in my life, then I would not be saved today. It is only by the grace of God that I knew to cry out on the name of Jesus. The fear of God is not in this man, and he is not preaching a saving faith. He needs our prayers.
Agree 100%. I said this about Joel since the beginning. I'm just glad my family finally listened and left Lakewood Church.

To be honest, even though I have heard many people I respect (including my own pastor and you) talk about Joel as being in error in his teaching, I would listen to his sermons and I couldn’t spot the problems-to me, he seemed fairly harmless. Clearly, I have much to learn. Thank you so much in persevering with this video. I get it now, and have learned a valuable lesson in the process: Joel makes it about us, when it should be about God. That may account for his success and popularity but it’s not good teaching.
I tried to watch the last video you put out but it was taken down before I had the chance to watch it. I’m so glad I was finally able to have my questions answered.

Paul allows bishops to get marry, but catholic church goes against paul.
Now these catholic will give a Verses from 1 Corinthians7 to say that paul gave the advice to stay unmarried. But they will not tell you that the same chapter they quote says 1 Corinthians 7:28 "even if you do marry, you have not SINNED". The passage literally says "young women, young men" and a bishop is supposed to be a Church ELDER. Mic drop

Free at Last, kudos to you as you accept the lessons in discernment from Mike Winger. Many Christians miss out on spiritual growth and depth of faith because they really like the “baby’s milk” of the “feel good” messages. You are showing your hunger for the MEAT of God’s Word and the Gospel of Christ. May God richly bless your desire to grow in Him.
No clearly you DONT have much to learn...any more than the rest of us. The scripture makes for a variety of examples and use your LOGOS (original Greek for the mistranslation of "word" meaning a combination of intellect, morality and intuition) to analyze those aspects of the scripture that do make sense.

It really is pathetic that Mike has to go to such lengths to avoid all this trouble. But someone will probably now attack him for drawing a humiliating picture of Joel on that piece of paper.
I really enjoyed the Word given. Not only did you point out some problems with Joel Osteen's teaching in a straight on fashion without obvious meanness at heart., you also opened scripture to me personally. Thank you. Only negative is this: when doing Joel's part there is the slightest appearance of condescension, whether actual, or not. Real, or not, it never looks good on a preacher in even the slightest amount. And thank you for sharing God's Word. I believe you are anointed by God to do so. At least in this instance you were. 🙂

I attended Joel Osteen's church for 4 years, right after his dad died. Joel took over without any succession plan and without any formal seminary training. I got the impression he was winging it, while the church was trying to figure out how to keep his dad's ministry going. So Joel started preaching pretty much the same, simple sermon over and over, kind of a weekly pep talk summarized as, "God loves you, God is for you, your blessings are coming." It took several years for me to admit his teaching was shallow at best, and often outright false. I thank God for the Holy Spirit's genuine discernment, and expository Bible teachers who help us grow in God's ☝️ Word, and identify those Bible teachers who deviate from the truth.
His dad would roll over in his grave seeing how his church is being lead to Hell by this progressive false preacher.
Joel's father was a good preacher he would walk around the side of the podium under a strong anointing as he preached.

@TheExastrologer I can only go by the messages I heard him preach on television. Sound preaching if he transfered over to another doctrine, I did not hear anything reflecting that. I'm not disputing what you stated, I just never heard the faith or any other questionable doctrine.
Joel's messages are positive, and I do think they should incorporate more scripture. Currently, I have other preferences in order to be fed the word. Occasionally, ( once a year or more) I check in to see how Joel is doing.
I do get aggreviated; there are a tremendous number of Channels on RUclips instead of discussing the reality of Christ, his personality character, and the importance of a relationship with him those channels exist to talk negative because it engages people's interest and sells.
None of these Channels on RUclips are in existence without financial gratuity. Regardless of what they might claim, the channel creators would not invest the time required in order to build a Channel if there were no financial $$💰 compensation. Take care, Best

I’m a new subscriber because I just watched your 4 hour expose on Benny Hinn (superbly done, btw). I love that you always back up your criticism with Scripture, and not just a verse or 2, but the WHOLE context of the passage. I used to be a member of a church where, although it was doctrinally sound, there was almost a cult-like reverence of the pastor. People were afraid to criticize anything, and NO ONE questioned his behavior and attitude toward his staff. He was abusive and people feared him more than they feared God. I really appreciate these videos! Thank you for the time and prayerful consideration you give to them, and most importantly, ALWAYS using Scripture. The Word of God is all truth, and we are supposed to study to show ourselves approved, rightly dividing the Word of Truth. Be like the Bereans!!! I will never attend a church where the flock is not encouraged to have quiet time alone with the Lord, and to study His Word!
Years ago, I would watch Osteen. The pep talk/sermon would leave one feeling upbeat, but not much else.
After being raised as a JW, I had ZERO knowledge of the Gospel - or the Bible for that matter. Eventually found a church that teaches the Bible, have been Saved and baptized. None of that would have happened had Osteen's sermons been the only ones I heard. Deeply grateful that God kept nudging me towards His word & a solid church family.

- I heard this Osteen sermon on XM radio driving to work as I was going through a painful divorce. Osteen’s words were a huge help for me in this difficult time.

When ppl say Joel's message help them YES I'm sure ppl / you could be going through pretty painful time in your life so yes we can be very very open in our pain and grab onto things that can help so yes a motivational pep talk can help but it has nothing to do with him or his message being the gospel which he doesn't it just happens it was Joel you were listening to instead of the other thousands of motivational speakers whom also could have said something for you to grab onto during a very painful time in your life but true biblical hope and motivation based on the foundation of Christ and the help of the spirit surpasses mere motivation talk sprinkled with some scriptures thrown in here and there

I feel so sad. Not of anything against your video, but because through hearing and watching your biblical analysis I realized how easy it has been for me to blunt the gospel in my times of instructing others. How easy it is to be just the life coach instead of really unashamedly teaching the gospel, including the calls to repentance and self sacrifice. Thank you for persevering to release this video. I have a lot to think about.
I feel the same. Gotta keep the standard held very high when it comes to preaching and teacher. There will be great judgment for those who don't.
Plus, it makes one a much better/ effective witness to accurately explain the Scriptures.

I’m a huge fan of Pastor Mike but it seems you have inferred the same thing I did from Pastor Mike which is expository preaching is the only way to preach everything else is diluting the gospel. I’m not sure that is accurate. If we can not take the word and apply it to our own lives how are we to use the Bible to change the way we are thinking, how are we to walk in right standing. If we take this approach on all of scripture than the majority of the Bible is mostly only telling us history and we should not infer any personal revelation on how we can better live more like Christ. I mean in this thinking the whole Old Testament is doing nothing more than teaching us what happened because most things in there doesn’t speak to us directly. I think it is a slippery slope when we say you can not infer other meanings and revelation from the text besides the literal translation. If that’s the case no one should have any opinions and when they preach they should only read the word out loud and keep their on thoughts out of it. That means most christian books are worthless if it’s not an expository communication of biblical meaning. I love Pastor Mike but I’m on the fence with this one.
I agree. I’m a fan of Ps Mike’s analysis of the Bible and in some cases “prophetic ministries.” I also agree that self-help ministries can often do the opposite, where Christians are strung along by the notion of a Santa Claus God. However… Ps Mike you opposed Osteen’s teaching when he said “If David had stuck around to argue with his brother he would have missed his destiny. (Paraphrasing).” Yet later you did the same thing when you said had David not been a Shepard he wouldn’t have wrote “the Lord is my Shepard.” Jesus was a carpenter but so many of his stories were about shepherding, not carpentry. I think it’s okay to make observations about life, and enjoy how the Bible might apply to these human insights and the human condition. In another place you opposed Osteen implying that Peter was known to be cantankerous. But there was no evidence biblically to substantiate that. Then later you mentioned how Peter was crucified upside down and Paul was beheaded “according to tradition”. Surely we can afford the same thing to Osteen. This video did feel like an argument about the trees and missing the forest.
In any case, I agree with the general thrust of your message, and I’ve seen first hand the damage that can be caused from lifestyle teaching, and dangling “breakthroughs” in front of people in pain. I’m glad you made this video, and persevered. But do let the stories breathe a little. We humans enjoy a good parable, and we look for the insights, not the verbatim.
Final example, I also lost a baby. And the story of David in the Bible grieving actually helped me with my grieving process. I also questioned whether my sins were the cause (obviously not, but when you’re grieving everything goes through your mind.) If I had watched this video before that time, I would have “surgically removed” God’s healing message for me.The Body of Christ needs its own checks and balances which is what Paul did for Peter, and you are doing for Joel. So I hope that this comment and the comments of others, does the same for you. My regret was that I had not written an affirming comment first, because your ministry has brought much healing and learning to my walk. Love you man.

Therefore, yes, we should infer no other meaning on Scripture than what it says but is says a lot. If one would read the historical Books with the understanding of their context -- which requires the study of ancient history -- one will realize that Biblical history really is teaching us ethics -- what is right, and what it wrong. If 'X' is done, 'Y' is the outcome, people in power usually serve themselves before others, and injustice is the norm in this life, but God condemns it. By knowing this, one has the opportunity to make wise decisions in every area of one's life that please the Lord and are to the person's and society's benefit. However, not all of the Bible is about History but morality -- on how we should then live. The big lie that Osteen and other preachers like him perpetuate by misappropriating Scripture is that "you have a destiny," "you have a purpose," "God is all about fulfilling your dreams," etc.. This sort of rubbish does nothing but cause dissatisfaction with one's life. We subconsciously think, "If I do what he/she says, I'll be rich and happy like him/her, and wear expensive clothes and jewelry, and people will come after me to learn how I got where I am, too, and my life will count!" -- as if one's life doesn't matter if one isn't rich, famous and well-traveled, with the movie star looks, and that's not true at all. In a nutshell, we're called to obscurity, quietness, and the mundane living of everyday life fulfilling the demands of each day with grace, love (look at what that entails!), humility, and the fear of the Lord.

Too funny, it took a minute when you held up stick Joel O, but that made my day.
On a serious note, I have issues with forgiveness, I sometimes give feedback to people who have CPTSD, about different symptoms (for lack of a better description) on how it is impacting their life. These are usually on secular formats, which some prohibit any discussion of religion bc some have become victimized at the hand of man, male or female, using the veil of religion improperly.
My stance has always been, you are not required to forgive, but you do need to find a way to let go of the situation, so you don't dwell on it, where it interferes in your life.
Some see forgiveness as I can't have hurt, anger etc about a situation. But I did have anger about someone trying to kill my father, trust me I thought about the best ways to hurt them for years. Then a good friend, who was a former vet turned police officer, told me "having to kill someone isn't all it's cracked up to be". I was in the military for over 20 years, so I understood what he meant. Killing in revenge, hurting people in revenge doesn't right a wrong and doesn't heal what you have been through. I have had my own traumas which I am not discussing here, I will just say having dreams of someone trying to kill you 3-4 nights a week, as a fourteen year old, for over a year wasn't fun.
Thank you for the brief discussion at the beginning about forgiveness, it brought out another point about forgiveness and what it should be about.
I have prayed about this over the years, it has been a long process. But I am coming closer to that true forgiveness. After 55+ years, my CPTSD seems better also, hopefully that is permanent.
I’m only 14 minutes into this & getting sooo much out of this !! I have to backtrack & make notes of the integrity of God’s word for personal application. There is a fine line when interpreting & applying scripture correctly - & it’s vitally important to get it right !!! Thank you Mike for all the effort you put into this 👍💝

Joel Osteen is nothing more than a motivational speaker. He preaches the prosperity
" gospel".. meaning if you have enough faith and send me money, God will bless you!! When actually, you'll be lining my pockets with all your money, and you'll still be poor, probably even poorer, and i will become insanely rich!!!. He and other TV personalities don't care about people on a personal level. It's abhorrent that they do this and have no concern about it. God will not be mocked and they will be judged for leading people astray!! 🙏

I actually shuddered at the last quote, when we give the offering at my home Church we all pray together, that it may be used to glorify the Lord and serve the Gospel. When there is a fundraiser it is for a purpose, we know where the money is going and it is a good and righteous cause, almost always for a missions trip or to help our sister Churches in Africa or Costa Rica - the implication of benefit from Tithing is so antithetical to the Spirit of Christianity; worshipping and practicing in a way that costs you because the true gift isnt here on earth, it is the following of the Gospel and the growth of your relationship with Christ. May the Osteens see the error of their ways and repent, and thank you and bless you sir; for all the great work you do
Wow! This is insaaaane! So telling of where we are as a society. As a baby Christian it is so easy to fall for these feel good types of things. It's sad because even if you can't put your finger on why it's wrong, you can still sense its off somehow, at least, if you know the Bible at all.

I did notice that Joel takes a chapter and speaks about it, but he doesn't explicitly mention any verses.... he refers to them.. This is the opposite of Exigesis , but its just another way to interpret the bible... I think there needs to be a healthy mixture of taking the bible literally, and then taking the bible broadly.

I like many others here could never quite put my finger on what felt off about Osteen. Excellent analysis! So appreciated.
Honestly the first half of the video I was kind of struggling to understand what you meant or how you were interpreting the verses differently but by the second half I definitely got the theme and feel a touch more confident that I could identify this sort of distortion on my own in the future.
By the last 5 minutes and the conclusion points you make it's really quite clear.
As others mentioned I love that there's no attack in the video and you're perfectly comfortable saying when he does things well and even welcoming people to disagree with you.
This to me is the mark of real confidence and faith

This reminds me of when I was reading books to my preschoolers and sometimes the "story with a lesson" books were really horrifying. The lesson would be, "I share my toys with my friends so that they will share with me" or something along those lines. It seemed so mercenary and unlike real friendship.
I ended up crossing out words and changing to something like, "I share my toys with my friends, and my friends share their toys with me. It's fun to play with friends." Which takes the motive out altogether and is more "here's what reality looks like".
I admire that you take your experience, mixed with a little humor, and allow God to give you wisdom to defend the faith and glorify Him. Thanks for your persistence to get this message out.

When I was first saved, I prayed that the Holy Spirit helps me to understand the bible. Because of this, the correct context was so easy to understand. I had no idea that people could misinterpret the bible to this extent. I really pays to pray before you read the word of God. Don’t run ahead of the Holy Spirit period, especially when reading the Word of God.
Totally watching this for the third time just to watch you reading Joel's quotes (and for the algorithm). Only slightly disappointed you didn't try to read them in Joel's voice.

I used to be an elder at a church and I learned much about being a pastor. It is not only a good message on Sunday, it includes visiting the elderly, the sick, the homeless, the hungry. Sometimes a pastor will neglect these things. I feel these are more important than a good sermon.

How can a church of 100-150 have 4 "pastors" and all want to preach and go to retreats and mission trip, but no one wants to visit or call newcomers....and the elderly and disabled just expected to keep up or watch online. One must scan in when in attendance surrounded by serious-faced security guards (2-3) too.

@@timothy6828 We are all the church and we are all called to be ambassadors for Christ. The pastor may have a calling to be able to speak and be understood in a way that you may not, but his role is the same as yours none the less; to spread the Good News and to be the hands and feet of Jesus.
Back when I was an atheist, Joel was one of my go to guys for discrediting Christianity as being nothing more than a grift and a scam.

I don’t know if you read the “extremely” long commentary that I left you six months ago concerning the video you posted titled, (“Why I am NOT suing Joel Osteen - Final update on my copyright strike and a personal message to Joel.”), but I must say that I am very pleased that you finally “put litter in its place” concerning Joel Osteen’s very harmful debasing of The Holy Scripture’s, without falling all over yourself trying to appease and reason with this man to get him to contact you.
Joel Osteen is NOT a pastor, but rather a great motivational, prosperity speaker, who is on the “other side” of God’s purpose for His true followers of Jesus Christ.
May God have mercy on Joel Osteen’s soul!

Thank you for speaking out against Osteen. I use to listen to him in my early learning. I do ask the Holy Spirit to help me discern who I can listen to. A few years ago I was led away from wasting my time listening to him. Others like Joyce Meyer, Steven Furtick, TD Jakes, Beth Moore, Christine Caine, Andy Stanley, Benny Hinn, Kenneth & Gloria Copeland, Paul Crouch, Creflo and Taffy Dollar, Paula White, Jesse du Plantis, to name but a few, followed. I believe the Holy Spirit led me away, nobody told me not to listen to them. I just felt it in my spirit.

Joel Osteen, unlike his Dad John Osteen who was a bible based preacher, has sadly embraced this New Age/Life Coach stance and rather than preach what the bible actually teaches us, he resorts to being a motivational speaker on a Sunday morning, with just a little addition about accepting Jesus as your personal Savior at the end of his speech. This trend has taken off with many other 'life coach preachers' who are in actual fast motivational speakers, cheering their audience on to achieving their own dreams and goals, the focus on self rather than on God, and HIS will and plan for your life and living in obedience to what He has called you to do. Joel takes the safe path, to please his audiences (both onsite and online) and to show them how they can achieve more for themselves, and the bible is just another 'motivational book' to support his presentation. This half baked, diluted, watered down 'gospel presentation' is highly dangerous and I am so glad I have walked away from speakers like him and others, and now only listen to bible based preachers who present the gospel as it is in the bible, and use it to help us to become God-focused. God bless you, your ministry and thank you for taking the time to present these videos.
Joel has a ministry of trying to build hope and resilience for people who have gone through tough times. His is a positive message. He is unapologetic for it and it is his clearly stated purpose as to what God has called him to do. You have your ministry and Joel has his. Joel's ministry has been a great help to me and hundreds of thousands of others!

It's not a ministry if it's not authentic Gospel. It's just a pep rally wearing a pulpit... In fact, it could easily be called one of the Adversary's DISTRACTIONS FROM the Gospel of Salvation. When a teacher misuses scripture, they're lying about what God really said... And that's no ministry.

Mike, thank you for posting this re: Joel. It’s our job as disciplines to warm the people of these wolves in sheep’s clothing. I will say I was on the Osteen bus when he first started…I can’t call it a ministry bc he’s never gone to seminary. I soon got ran off that bus..I read the Word of God for myself. If I wanted to stay listening to messages like Joel’s, I would have stayed a Catholic.
And, since then..Joel, too, lost me bc I have a hard time listening to a pastor/ preacher who’s had so much cosmetic surgery. Maybe, it’s just me but I think men need to look like and act like real men…like my hubby, Dad, brothers and sons. Again, it’s just me.

This is so good. This is one of a few videos that you have done that I wouldn't have caught the subtlety of the error in teaching or the abuse in some of the Charismatic preachers who are using signs and wonders for bait.
Absolutely! I thought I knew the Bible quite well, and many of the ploys of false teachers, but still couldn't get exactly WHY some of the Osteen quotes were so very wrong and deceptive.

Loved this video! On the subject of whether or not Joel would be considered a false teacher - I immediately thought of James 3:11, “Does a spring pour forth from the same opening both fresh and salt water?”
It seems like anyone who is interweaving lies and misdirection with Biblical teaching would be considered a false teacher.
18:00 - I watched the second version of this video. The way Mike quotes JO is more clear than when JO speaks himself. That clarity reveals the muk JO stirs. The soft soothing voice that can convince anyone of whatever he says. The tone communicates more positivity than clarity. "He must be right and good because his tone is good and speaks to me." This is the subconscious attitude of people who accept his teachings.

I just wanna say that your lesson on forgiveness was a GREAT personal reminder. It was right on time. I find myself angry at many things in the world today. And I was justifying it by thinking, feeling and saying that Our Father was most certainly angry at the same things. However that is no reason to lack in forgiveness. Thanks brother 🤙🏾
I actually agree with some of the things you pointed out in his message.
I do agree with the part where he said when we give the windows of heaven will be opened for us.
"It is more blessed to give than to receive" Acts 20:35. Who gives blessings? God. "And God is able to BLESS you abundantly,..." 2 Corinthians 9:8; "The Lord BLESS you and keep you....." Numbers 6:24.
So the one who gives (to Church, the poor, the needy, etc.) is blessed by God.
God is the Owner of the Universe, He does not need our money. Even if we don't give for the spead of the gospel, the gospel will still be spread. Giving to God is not doing God a favour.
It is amazing to me that he is so popular and beloved. People really do want a positive message, instead of the truth.

The first I listened to by myself was recent and I've heard bad. But there were a few problems. Not many. It was about how satan attacks our self esteem. He tells us we are nothing and more. He is the oppressor...truth a d wish I knew years and years ago. He tells us mostly a way to fight back with outloud true scripture. I am a royal priesthood. But I had to write down more he didn't give us scripture truth everytime. PLUS I know he told us about reaching our destinany everything. God has plans for us and 1st to share the Good News. But so for to what I've listened too. He never says what our destinany might be?? I guess the JEREMIAH PLAN TO prosper US.. verse.. Which may or may not be for us now. But there are more.
I can't say that I was able to watch the first two attempts even though I was subscribed when they came out but I am glad I watched this one. I knew I could come for a fair Biblical analysis no matter if you had Joel's clips or stick figure Joel lol, I just didn't watch watch the first two attempts. This is probably the most fair Biblical analysis of Joel and his teaching. Most would have kept it at 10 minutes, called him a heretic and been done with it. I appreciate the in depth look and fairness. Those two things are hard to come by in a video about someone's teaching these days.

I just view Joel Osteen as a motivational speaker picking and choosing scripture to support his perspective on improving one's life. I personally don't see anything wrong with that. There are multitudes of motivational speakers who never refer to biblical principles or texts. I don't think he's trying to deceive anyone. I personally have done a course back in 1987 which allowed me put my past in the past, present into the present and making declarations for the future. There is nothing wrong with that. In fact, it allowed me to notice bible scriptures I had never seen before and it broadened my scope of application to my life. That has been working for me since 1987. I'm almost 70 years old now and I have had a blessed life. Pivotal moments that probably wouldn't have happened without my knowledge of distinctions I learned. So as far as Joe O. Is concerned, I don't view him more than a motivational speaker who uses Bible references to help coach people to take action in their life instead of holding on to the past. Why are people trying to criticize him for not fitting in to the "preaching gospel" and accuse him of not teaching all the scriptures. That's not his job or mission. It's like comparing a general practitioner to a specialist. Joel is a motivational specialist and any more expectations of him are unwarranted.
I thank God for giving me the eventual maturity in my faith in Him to finally ask Him to please bring someone into my life who rightly divides the Word. I prayed to discover this person, this teacher for several weeks (not long in terms of God's time). I finally came upon your videos. God is great, His Word is perfect and I'm thankful to know you Pastor Mike. Your servitude to our Lord is the good stuff. Thanks brother.

I am enjoying your videos. I used to be a member of an evangelical church that embraced the likes of Osteen and Hinn and was part of a megachurch. I only left when they rejected me as not being as "Christian" as they were. It took me many years after that, and the intervention of my son who was a missionary in Africa for a few years - to see the distortions for what they were - and there is no worse evil - for its effects - than throwing lies into basic truth.
Please keep exposing these weaknesses in Christian ministries. Hopefully enough people will stop fearing the consequences of thinking for their own selves and questioning their leaders - and in particular, the understanding of "prosperity" as set out in the Bible vs a belief system that says that the more members you have and the more money the members send, the more praise the ministry should receive from God. Jesus spoke to the hearts of individuals, and God is not the promoter of mass marketers. Service to others, sacrificing through works, and not by the giving of $ alone, is true service to God's Heart.
Prosperity ministries misinterpret the scriptural reasons for God's granting of prosperity to His People. Jesus said the greatest commandment was to "Love the Lord thy God with all they heart, soul and mind and love thy neighbour as thyself". I do not believe prosperity ministers understand what that means. Biblical prosperity if NOT found in money. Prosperity is the "wealth" within - and its fruits - a loving family and friends, in a framework of service to others - being an example of how we as God's children are supposed to live our lives. Prosperity if found in the example we are to others, on a daily basis - being nice to the clerk in a store, helping our neighbour bring in her groceries. It is NOT found in just giving away money - even to a ministry that does good to strangers.
Job is a good example of someone who lost all but did not lose his faith. Would he have given in to prosperity ministries and donated all or most of his money to be right in God's Eyes? NO. In fact, God took his financial prosperity as well as his own family away so that he would understand the true Message.
My prayer is that more Christians will be able to separate the wheat from the chaff, as I try to do in my own imperfect life. Hinn and Olstein are still locked in a belief system that Jesus spoke against were He on earth today. (He turned over the tables of the money changers in the Temple.) I pray that Christians see that these ministries have mixed too much of the worldly into the Truth that Jesus preached. Watering down the truth that Jesus spoke and became Christianity through Paul, Peter and James, is worse than rejecting Jesus.
I'm amused by the irony of Osteen going on about letting things go and forgiving (for one's own benefit) and YET he slaps Mike's videos with copyright violations every chance he gets. Let it go, Joel.

Thank you for all of your work on this. I truly appreciate it. Years ago I had watch Joel a few times. Although I was a Christian, I wasn’t as knowledgeable about scripture but something about him didn’t sit well with me. I live in north Texas and I remember that he and his wife would make the news occasionally concerning some of the things that they did which also sent up red flags for me. All of that never made sense to me so I would change the channel when his tv program would air. After watching your video, I understand why I probably felt conflicted about him. Thanks again.
...l used to watch him before l got saved. I believed but I was not yet a Born Again, truly regenerated Christian. As soon as l got truly saved ( l was deceived) God showed me all those T.V. evangelist's were false teachers, except Dr. Charles Stanley. But when you are truly saved, l believe you desire real preaching, not a motivational speaker. He mentions God, but there's nothing of substance coming from Joel. And Victoria has said Blasphemous stuff about God. We love them when we are still dead in sin, but Born again, now we can no longer stand them. Seeing as they make merchandise of us, like Peter said. I haven't even got through the intro and I am already excited about the many people this teaching is going to help Pastor Mike. You're truly gifted and we need your teaching and preaching in these times of confusion and misuse of the Holy Bible, Jesus' teaching and God's commands. I am praying for this video to stay put (love the stick figures by the way) and help others like me out of deception - your commitment to preaching the truth has been instrumental. Expose this darkness to the light of our Lord and Saviour. Your humility, genuine humour and love for Jesus are so evident. Now I'm going to watch, probably see Moxy, pray for Mrs Mike and the team and be bolstered by your encouragement and faith in Jesus' mighty name, amen.
This is hilarious! I want to say that I can't believe that a church or pastor can be so petty, but based on my own church experience I can. Unfortunately this is another sign of extreme narcissism within church organizations.

How ironic and sad it is that when someone provided an honest and well-meaning critique of his work, Joel Osteen was not able to "let it go". There's an important message there.

I say the word "forgiveness" is spelled wrong. It should be for-e-giveness with two "e"s. Meaning give first, give ahead. About the same idea as pay-it-forward. While we were yet sinners, Christ came and died for us. God is the author of forgiveness. We should esteem (Osteen?) to that same attitude of constantly seeking to be a blessing to those around us. Quit worrying about your self all the time! Take a day off once a week from promoting your own affairs and see how well this works. A society where people are seeking to be a blessing to those around them is the most effective, productive society. Will not heaven be such? This is what the 4th commandment was all about. Take a day once a week and work for others instead of yourself. Rest in the Lord and see how blessed you are. Give to those around you. Step out in faith and give to others (not expecting anything in return). Give first. The natural human can't do this of course. Takes a changed heart to esteem others higher than yourself. To see others as God sees them (His children). Go and sin no more.....
This was awesome! The clarity and examples, in full, from the bible directly, not in a "relatable personal story" or "interpretation that fits a narrative". Also, I've come to know - if people are trying to shut your rebuttal or questioning, of them, then their words hold no weight.
The truth doesn't need to be defended because it speaks for itself. If his teachings were to the bible, he'd have no fear of someone questioning them.
Also, can you imagine how much $$$$ that takes to fight in legal fees. Good thing he has "donors and offerings" to fund this

This series of events has proven to me that you will not back down due to some major inconveniences, and you always manage to be very funny and lighthearted throughout the whole process. I understand and agree with what you say, but JO was the doorway to my coming to Jesus. I heard a sermon and my heart was opened to Christ. I don't recall that it was about prosperity, but I remember he said to find a bible based church. I took that advice and began my journey to a Bible based life. Your criticism is valid but it ignores any good that might have come from his ministry and feels very mean-spirited, even though you say it's not.
