"Somewhere in the north-woods darkness, a creature walks upright. And the best advice you may ever get is don’t go out…at night."
Whilst these words appear to have been born out of a harmless April Fool’s joke, for the residents of Michigan’s heartland they stir a deeply rooted apprehension. The fear of a mythical beast, stories of which have been passed down through the centuries. A creature known as the Michigan Dogman.

I was a kid growing up in Michigan in the 1980's. We were pretty poor. But the road we lived on was close to the deep forest. My brother and I used to play in the woods behind our home in Romeo. That place is gone now. It was lost to time and development. You see if you spend any time in the deep woods of Michigan you know that the woods have an undercurrent. But occasionally when you are out there things seem to come to a stop. Not literally of course but you get the feeling that the rest of the area is in on a joke you aren't seeing coming. I used to run when I had that feeling. It only seemed right.

I noticed a shape on the side of the road an at first I thought that someone had planted a new tree or something. Then then the shape turned its head and looked right at me. It had a muzzle and its eyes flashed in my headlights. Was i tired? Yes. Could it have been a normal animal acting in abnormal way? Sure. In one of Linda Godfrey's books, she talked to shaman that said that the creature is a spirit animal, and once it crosses over to our world it becomes flesh and blood. However, it needs energy to cross over back into the spirit world. Like the emotion of fear.
Look at most of these encounters: the creatures are doing something like stalking someone or letting someone see them. If they wanted to, they most certainly could have killed the witness. But instead, they just give them a fright.
Almost all Dogman sightings report they are threatening, almost belligerent. But they never seem to attack humans; even a sighting of a pack of them moving in on a family in their farm house, they never seemed to try to "go in for the kill", even though the creatures their size could have easily broken in doors and windows and overpowered the occupants.
Many people disappear all over the place all the time never to be seen again.
Lots of missing people have gone camping and never seen again. Dead men tell no tales.
@@TwinkieSmooth yeah, survivor bias is strong in that one
The unknown number of people abducted and killed by these evil creatures arent talking anymore.
I do believe the Dogmen are real. I heard enough stories when living in Ontario Canada and countless witness accounts, who were very adamant about what they have seen. You hear a lot when you travel and work in bush camps, excellent work guys.
I grew up in Alberta South East of Edmonton. I saw something when I was 8. I've always written it off as a hallucination though it's a bit surreal when I see videos like this where other accounts are so similar to what I experienced. I have no idea if what I saw when I was a kid was actually there but to this day I can't take a leak by the side of the road at night without keeping a close eye on the tree line. The one I saw had massive arms and shoulders. The arms were long and it held its hands just above the ground. I think I caught it off gaurd. It was out across our driveway sniffing around some hay bales by the fenceline. I was in our garage grabbing ice cream out of our deepfreeze; the door was open behind me. I felt like I was being watched so I turned around quick to look. When I saw it I think that's when it noticed me. It looked right at me for a split second before taking two steps and bounding over the fence into a paddock and out of sight. Again no idea if it was real. Though I don't go in or near the woods at night if I can avoid it; and never alone. I've dealt with bears and cougars before and they dont worry me. That thing though. That thing looked like it could fuck you right up.
@@Mark_w_oneil Bears will definitely fuck you up as well and whilst I've never seen a bear in the wild, your description and these others mentioned in this video strike me as being most likely bears. The footprint even looks decidedly bear like. Occam's razor, you're living and working in potential bear country, most of the sightings are at night and at a fair distance. What's more likely an unknown race of upright lycanthrope or a skinny bear?
The only thing that makes me think it's not is the fact that in every case, the witness says that the creature has long upright ears, like on a German shepherd, and bears don't have ears like that.
@@Aconitum_napellus I've hunted my whole life. Never saw a werewolf but face to face with several bears. Your razor theory is discounting the literal thousands of eyewitnesses who HAVE seen bears and everything else go to the grave defending what they saw was exactly not that. The modern hunters and indigenous people are the experts here and they all speak of these things. Worldwide and throughout written history. All identifying the same details. Ask your average Canadian hunting guide how he feels about paranormal things happening out there. Or anyone living deep into the Pacific Northwest forest. Or the Everglades. Go try it yourself a few nights alone and see how "mr. practical" you return.
Occams razor: What are the odds you know everything there is to know?
@@steveguse4481 oh well, maybe one day one of these 'professional hunters' might actually be able to bring back a carcass and put an end to the (to be honest) very fair skepticism that in a world full of trail cams, satellites, thermal imaging and go pros, nobody's managed to get a decent picture of any of these fictional fairytale beasties. Until then, their existence is exactly that - a fairytale.
Let me tell you about the deep woods in the state of Michigan. They are dark, deep and everywhere. Sometimes when you're out there a silence will fall over the forest. And you will feel an overwhelming feeling that you should run. While driving at night in some of the more remote areas viability is low and the darkness is as deep as the trees on the side of the road. It is strange out there sometimes. You never seem to feel alone out there in the wild. - Six
I was born and raised on the west side of Michigan (Muskegon), my grandparents house sat in a dirt drive way with a 10 mile stretch of forest. I can confirm when I went on walks by myself sometimes I would have this strange feeling that I was been watched or followed, sometimes I would even see dark shadows zoom passed me, they were human like figures,I don’t know if this was a reaction from my brain because I was in panic mode or because I was very young ..But eventually I just got used to these phenomenons. I will tell you the Michigan forest on the west side and in the north are very bizarre and strange..
Forest gets super quite, where you hear no animals, then it’s a bigger predator in the area.
You feel like something or someone is staring at you? Trust your instincts and intuition, cause they are confirming this.

My Uncle worked on the L&N railroad. He was on an extra gang. A unit of men sent to trouble spots laying track and needed more men or for wrecks.
It was 1938 and he didn’t have seniority to work at a depot near home. He kept a depot open late one night in Northern Kentucky waiting for

"A cool summer morning in early June is where the legend began. A nameless logging camp in Wexford County where the Manistee river ran. Eleven lumberjacks near the Garland Swamp saw an animal they thought was a dog. In a playful mood they chased it 'round 'til it ran inside a hollow log. A logger named Johnson grabbed him a stick and poked around inside, then the thing let out an unearthly scream and came out...and stood...upright."

In 1997 I was driving home to Burlington Wisconsin from Madison. It was late (1 am or so), but I was wide awake from drinking coffee all night. I was on Highway 11 about 15 min from home when I saw a dog sitting on the shoulder of the road a ways ahead of me. It was sitting on it's haunches facing the road and I was paying close attention to it because I thought it might try to cross in front of me. As I passed it I could see it was a lighter gray color and kind of wolfy looking. What struck me though was how big it was. The top of it's head was higher than the roof of my car (a honda civic). I'm 5'9 and so that would have made it close to tall enough to look me directly in the eye while sitting on it's haunches. It was weird enough that I was going to turn around and drive by it again but then I thought "no, that just feels like how a bad movie starts", and so i just kept driving home.
It was not until a few years later that I heard about the "Beast of Bray Road". Turns out Bray road is about a quarter mile from where is saw the "dog".
I don't know what it was I saw that night, maybe a wolf? But whatever it was, it just sat there and did not move as I drove by. I think a wolf would have run before I even got close. But it was way bigger than any dog I have seen.

MTG is gonna have to start making cards where the picture moves to keep up with arena and all. I'd say this one's a good 3/3 4/4 with trample and haste. Costs about 1RG 😂
@@mikelong2756That's really cheap for a 4/4 trampler with first strike. 😳
Could you please do a ghost story from Japan! Japan has super creepy and scary ghost stories and I would love to see the art work and listen to the narration!
If you like creepy stories from Japan check out a channel called "Lazy Masquerade" if you haven't already. He does a lot of Japan-related content.

OsakaRose maybe Um because samurai would kill themself in the sake of honor or Japan in general is about honor and disgrace
OsakaRose not as much anymore obviously
I missed you guys so much! Just sat rewatching older uploads!
We need more videos about cryptids!!!
I am from Michigan and I definitely grew up hearing this story. Lived in Lake county as well. Great to hear the story!
Guard: *Sees Werewolf*
Guard: Jaw drops in disbelief
Werewolf: "Let me guess. Someone stole your sweetroll?"
Well he didn’t see the one in the door way behind him when drinking his cup of coffee
I'm from Michigan, Hillsdale Michigan to be specific, and I am so sorry about my mother in law... didn't realize you would make an entire show on her. We try to keep her muzzled, but sometimes she gets loose and all hell breaks out. I still can't figure out what her husband ever saw in her...🤔
I love it when I just check RUclips on a whim and something amazing is uploaded. Today, this is that something amazing. I was hoping we’d get a mention of Bray Road in this, I’m from Wisconsin so I’ve always been a sucker for dog men and werewolf creatures. Also, Vijay is so talented! His animation of a dog man warrior is really cool, keep up the good work!

Dude awesome shaggy pic he looks 2wasted lmao😄😄

Ok no more of this lol

Hailing from Michigan myself, this is easily my favorite of your videos. And while I didn’t grow up in Dogman territory, I find these stories quite interesting.
Their legend is a lot more darker in some stories.
A lot more darker.
Some say that they're responsible for a lot of 411 cases.
König Ҡristoph didn't know that but it would fit with a lot of 411 cases....
The beast of LBL comes into mind considering there are rumors of it killing an entire family back in the 80s.
@@nikowoods5794 What is LBL beast
David Paulides' books have made it very clear that there are no footprints or signs of any kind of animal attack in the cases he investigates so I doubt it. However, Dogmen have been known to hide up in trees and pull people up to feast on them. But again, there would be lots of blood and evidence of that. So very doubtful.
@@margyb7469 an another werewolf legend in Kentucky that counts the tale of werewolves haunting stretching back years in the surrounding areas in and around the Land Between the Lakes National Park. One other famous area rumored to be the haunt of dogmen is Germantown, Ohio.
Great work as always. A persistent question that comes to mind more frequently than not, is why such stories come from the USA most of the times? UFOs, Dogmen, Wendigos etc etc Kentucky goblins, headless hunters at the Superstition Mountains, the list is endless. Why in the USA? Why such encounters are so rare in the rest of the world? That's a real mystery
Horrifying creatures of vengeance conjured by native american shaman long ago, to help protect their burial grounds and effigy mounds all across north america from desecrating european invaders, exactly where most sightings and encounters actually take place.
Interesting question. Maybe because we are more relaxed socially? And we have cultural institutions like summer camp, both day camp and residential, where we exchange stories.
They're not rare in the rest of the world. But the US has a lot of people in it, and arguably the largest presence on social media such as RUclips and the like.
Sightings of many similar, and dissimilar, creatures occur all over the world. You're just more likely to hear about the ones from the US due to various factors. Strange things happen everywhere.
Oh HELL YES, I have been so depressed & this just turned my day around 💕

Also, the Lizard Man is Riptor (no word on whether the Lizard Man can breathe fire, spit acid, or is actually a cyborg).
Alright, that werewolf needs to be on a t-shirt.

Love the video! But I have to admit, as a Michigan native, it’s kind of hard not write this off as bears, wolves or coyotes. Some of those things can get pretty massive and aren’t always shy about wandering near humans.
I never have gotten the “spoooky” feeling of the woods. Maybe it’s because I am a bit of a wild child myself. Maybe some people have a more crazy imagination in the dark then I do?
I grew up in the area near Bray Rd and the stories have always both terrified and fascinated me.
"the man stepped out of his vehicle"am I the only one with a brain cell screaming "PUT IT IN FIRST GEAR AND STEP ON IT"

This channel is really amazing!
Perfect content, no creepy pasta crap.
I grew up in Michigan specifically by Luther and i grew up hearing the story's of the dogman
Same round the edge of port Huron since we had woods all around our house which even connected to an abandoned school with constant animals break ins as the county called it
I grew up around Newaygo though we never heard much of the stories I could definitely see a dogman lurking there
Me too! Luther is a very, very, old, Indian settlement. They have spiritual belief's...that might, incite ....more.... BAD SPIRITS....just saying. You will, reap what you sow!
Having lived in northern Michigan for my whole life, being raised, NOT to fear anything.....I decided to ride my bike home from a friends house, about 1 mile from home......it was getting pretty dark...I was 12 years old at the time. My neighborhood is the forest along the Sauble River....halfway home....I hear very loud crashing...coming towards me....I stop my bike....listening....feet planted firmly on either side of my bike. My heart was POUNDING!!! All I could think was....a pack of wolves are coming to eat me!!!! And finally.....the crashing sounds are right on top of me.....and a herd of deer come racing out of the woods and run it front of and behind me on my bike!!! I think I scared them pretty badly.....!!! True story!
I grew up just 3 miles from Bower's Harbor. The legends still give me goosebumps.
Always look forward to hearing the song on the radio. I used to be terrified of walking to the bus stop every morning. It was always dark and in my young mind the dogman was always watching from a nearby bush ready to pounce at any moment lol
I'm a cryptid enthusiast, but I've only recently heard of the Dogman. Apparently, there have been a lot of sightings here in NE Ohio.
Loveland frogmen
Northern Midwest have the dog men all about. Wisconsin has their own and I’m pretty sure Minnesota (where I live) has a couple stories about them too.
Worldwide been around 1000's of years. Anubis ring a bell?
These Dog Boyz are everywhere...!🤔
Im from Michigan. Dogman is a "humanoid" dog cryptid. It's as much a part of local native folklore as Sasquatch is for many other tribes across the US. A werewolf is a human being that transforms into a wolf. STark contrast between the two.
In your knowledge of this, is there a way to become one. The numbers would dwindle otherwise.
You really help me sleep. Don’t get me wrong; I finish listening to your stories and even share some with friends and family. But I really struggle to sleep, and your voice and these stories really do help me sleep. Please keep doing what you do.

I’d like to correct you on something and also share my own personally story.
If he’s the Michigan dog man, he crossed boarders too. I live in Ontario Canada
Witch boarders Michigan. I grew up on a farm in Southern Ontario I can’t remember my exact age but I was somewhere between 10 and 12. I was hanging out with a few of my friends and a cousin. We were out In a 50 acre field, that was rolling hills and that particular year we had corn growing. Anyways we were playing manhunt and we split up into 2 groups and my buddies went one way and my cousin and I went another. we went down off the side out my house down an old fence line and there was a drop off where water drains into sewers that was barred off by big pieces of re-bar. My cousin and I went down into this sewer and decided to cut into the corn field and we got about 20 rows of corn in and I was leading the way. All of a sudden my cousin grabs my shoulder as hard as he possibly could I turned around to see what was going on and he was standing there frozen eyes as wide as dinner plates and looked absolutely petrified all he could do was point I turned back to look over my shoulder and there was a massive dog like figure maybe 3 rows over it was up right crouching over with it’s elbows out to the side with its forearms resting on its knees. And I only seen it for a couple seconds and I herd corn crunching behind me and it was my older cousin booking it out of the field leaving me on my own, I didn’t look back we ran full tilt back to the veranda on my house and just stood there looking at each other unable to speak. When I think about it now it still makes the hair on my neck stand. If you go 11:00 in the video that is a fucking spitting imagine in cartoon form what I seen as a kid just switch the grass for corn, this thing was hunched over and it was WELL over a foot bigger then us. I remember it like it was yesterday. It has this big long tufts of hair coming off it’s elbows, I could hear it breathing and can still smell its putrid breath from over 20 years ago. I never told anyone about this because I thought no one would believe me. But me and my cousin Damn well seen it. Anyways fast forward into highschool we have a big conservation area in town with a big pond and a massive hill a good size like 80-100 meters long, people would always toboggan there growing up and when we got older we would snowboard there and set jumps up. So one day I asked my buddy’s Andrew and Dan who I would frequently snowboard there with if they wanted to go that evening. They both looked at me and said after dark? Absolutely not. I asked why? They said this is going to sounds completely insane but we seen something there last night and it shook us to the core I asked what and they said: we were at the top of the hill putting out bindings on to go down and one of them seen what looked like a massive dog at the bottom of the hill and they both stood there and watched it ( this hill kind of goes in a semi circle or moon shape but the hill itself is about 600-800 meters wide with a pond at the bottom and Forrest at the top ) they said thankfully it was on other side of the hill where they were and they watched it get up onto 2 and run up a snow covered hill at dusk witch I remind you is 80-100 meter slope, and it ran from the bottom to the top into the forest in about 5-7 seconds. And what they said was it looked like a dog about 10 feet tall on 2 legs it was far away so they weren’t exactly sure they just knew it was big and the one thing they both said was it had long hair coming off the elbows. I’m absolutely 100% positive they seen the same what ever the fuck I saw about 4-6 years prior. I don’t know if it was the Michigan dog man but I believe something along this lines is out there and I’ve seen it with my own eyes and know 3 other people who have too.
The truth is............sometimes the Michigan woods get quiet. Anyone will tell you this if they have spent any time in them. As a boy it happened to me once. The whole forest went quiet and I felt the need to run. So I did run. Dogman? I don't know but those woods are deep. I always trust my gut feelings. - Six
Lived in the middle of nowhere most my life. I've done a lot of hunting and hiking in the woods. I'll testify to that. One second you hear birds chirping and bugs going off. Next it's so quiet you can hear a pin drop. Always sends a chill down my spine. Especially when it's the woods behind my grandparents house. I've had a couple weird/scary things happen in those woods plus a out 70-80 years ago a gruesome murder of a couple people happened in it.
Man, I've had a pretty shitty week. Glad I could end it on a high note. Love your content guys. Keep it up!!
Seeing that i’m from Traverse City, Michigan; I greatly appreciate this video and sharing our local culture and folklore out for the world to see. Thank you.
Creepy and Atmospheric...as always. I don't know why these are called "Bedtime Stories"...they sure as hell don't help me to sleep..if that was there intended purpose. Well done!
Your stories are well done! I look forward to each new one. As I've been a reader of comics since 1960 I can't help but notice how good the art always is. Your expertise, especially with the alternating lights and darks of the charcoals, seems to lend itself to the type of art seen in a series like Batman Black and White. Thanks for everyone's hard work. You make a good product.

I live very close to Benzie County and can get to Bendon in about ten minutes. Now I've never seen the Dogman at all over the last two decades. I will admit that driving through there does have a different feeling. Perhaps someday I'll have a chance encounter. However, when I was younger, my brother and I were playing outside in the snow at night. Our yard wasn't very large. The edge of our yard merged into the swamp and the start of the woods. We were having a snowball fight, my brother was about to toss a snowball at me when he saw something off to his right.
Disclaimer, I'm not calling this the Dogman or a Bigfoot (Bigfoot has also been reported in Michigan) this was something we saw.
Wondering what he was looking at, I decided to look as well. About six to seven feet off the ground there were a pair of glowing eyes looking back at us, similar to that of the Bendon encounter We both ran inside, not sure what we saw and told our parents. The next morning, my Dad went out to have a look and he didn't see any footprints in the area where we pointed him to, not even a Bobcat's footprints and the snow was pretty deep. We lived in the Lake Ann area which is part of Benzie County, it's about the same distance away to Bendon from where I live now. I'm not sure what we saw that night but it's cemented in my mind. The property was thirty acres of woods.
I love the subtitles, you guys really care about us non English speakers ❤️💚
These new animations are great. The moving road and lit pair of eyes was bone chilling
The artwork is off the charts good.
Not very good at all!
As someone that lives in Michigan, This cryptid terrifies us who live in the country and have heard it. Yes, We know its a werewolf. I dunno why we named it Dogman. Ive heard the song alot when i was little, but after i was 3 or 4 I didnt hear it again. (Im 13.) Thank you for this video~!
Edit: I do hear more about wendigos in my family, For we have native-american blood and stories.

For what it's worth, I remember the WTCM radio hook ("W TEE CEE EM! Big Country!") because its signal began to overpower Z-93 out of Saginaw (a hard rock station, then and now) JUST south of US 10. Anybody local and of the same rough generation probably shares some of these memories. Jack O'Malley's in government, these days. Not really germaine, but weird to a bunch of people who grew up watching his grinning pumpkin head on local TV, or listening to his radio show. The Legend of the titular song prowled around Luther, Michigan, which is part of a rough trio of sleepy little towns bordering a big damn forest in the middle of nowhere. I remember first hearing the tune right about when it premiered, back in '87, and being unimpressed, even as a little kid. The "manufacturing plant bordering the Haymarsh" bit was amusing to anybody who lives around here. I don't know what it was in '61 (if it was even there at the time), but I damn well know what it is now. I can also tell you that it's in walking distance of several bars in a notorious party-school town (shoutout to the Bulldogs), and that a night watchman is a pretty good idea.
Because, folks, it's a gimmick. That's all it ever was. Something that you might use to wind up flatlanders if they weren't used to the sound of woods and fields, then snicker about with your friends. I will gladly attest to wandering hither and yon in the small, far places in this region at all times of day and night; in mental states altered and clear. On many, MANY occasions. You and your friends had a keg when you were teenagers? Haul the sucker out to the end of a two-track in the Pere Marquette (or anywhere else, really) and party down. Back then, we only worried about MIP tickets. Nobody worried about the Dogman. Nobody THOUGHT about the Dogman. Why the hell would you? Maybe Santa was keeping a tighter rein on him back in the day, I don't goddamn know.
The fun really started with the generation immediately following mine. The one that graduated to drinking in the woods once mine had moved on to bars. All of the weird internet cruft surrounding the story these days is neat, but not on the level of the sightings, which are a goldmine. Many of them correspond to the state's successful repopulation of black bears into the wild (and many more to hilariously bad fakes), but I digress again. Maybe it's Dogman, whatever. Cool. Just avoid them altogether, OK? You'll be better off.
animation on the dogman is really good. especially the swaying fur effect. Kudos to the artist
I did the animations, Thanks :D
