  • One of the biggest misconceptions many people had and still have (including myself) is once I put the dr*gs and alcohol down life would be an easy street. Everything would work out perfectly and all my dreams would fall into my lap.
    Life still happens whether we are sober or not but how we handle situations is the real gift. How it affects our mental health, how it affects our families. All these are the true and real gifts of recovery. Expecting life to be an easy street when we stop drinking and dru**ing is unrealistic.

    when i get bored and lethargic, i just think about all the wasted days and being in precarious situations all sketched out and then snap out of it and am so thankful to be sober and not reliving those days. remembering i’m sober gives me a high

      That’s so right! I get crazy bored at times too. I force myself to do something productive and fun everyday. Yesterday I played in mud. Transplanting aloe Vera all over our property. I looked and felt like Pippy Longstocking!

    This!! I was just talking with my daughter who is in active addiction right now about this exact topic. She claims everything is too overwhelming and she can’t handle even making a Dr appt. But exactly what you said, things are going to happen to us good or bad no matter what. Escaping or trying to escape only compounds the problems which makes the mountain even harder to climb.

      Thanks for sharing!! Exactly I know what she is saying in that moment we feel like we can't possibly do anything but the key is to A. stop the drugs and alcohol and B. just take it one step at a time just do one thing and move on to the next.

    Hey man my apologies for the lack of comments from me in a while , just keeping the head together working . Man life in recovery is no picnic, I have nearly had a slip because shit just seems to be getting on my nerves lately between having verbals with neighbors , wanting to fuck them up just keeping distance and working ..as I said the anger at the time I was fkn dwelling on it ( getting loaded & doing something stupid)...but fortunately I have a good wife that keeps me in check talking me down for the better... meaning not to do anything stupid..so I didn't but I'm having a hard time letting shit go at moment. But I always reflect on this : if I quit now , I'll end up where I began. And in the beginning I was desperate enough to be where I am now. KEEP GOING. Remember that.
    Great video as always have a peaceful day brother 👍👌

      Thanks so much brotha. No worries I totally get it. Without drugs and alcohol life can be interesting cause we actually have to face everything and can't just avoid it. I'm glad you finding ways to cope without drinking and doing something stupid.

    Once I quit things started to get harder

    • @Soberdogs
      @Soberdogs  2 года назад +3

      I don't think they are harder we just don't have our drugs and alcohol to drown out life and avoid everything. In addiction we just avoid all responsibilities.

    Its a scary feeling to deal with mayor problems while not in the right state of mind..❤

  • @roosterj2599
    @roosterj2599 2 года назад +1

    My answer would be........NO! It's life. Life is you win some and you lose some. It's how you deal with it minus the drugs and alcohol. All drugs and alcohol do is delay the inevitable.
    Awesome vid bro. Great and very important subject that begs to be covered.

      @@Soberdogs 5 years clean and sober and I still find raw emotions challenging. What's worse is feeling the urge to get high when you are feeling good. That one always got me and resulted in a couple of overdoses. People don't realize how an addict finds good emotions and positivity to be just as much a challenge as the bad and negative emotions.
