How Oxycontin Took Over My Life

  • Oxycontin/oxycodone took over my life. It started with just taking it with a friend in high school and escalated to wanting to do it more and more.
When an injury in football gave me a reason to get it legally from a doctor, all bets were off. I was off to the races with my own prescription. Because of the injury and untreated depression I was taking the oxy more than prescribed and taking it with alcohol.
This period of time made me become hooked and I needed it daily or else I would go into serious withdrawal. My habit and my addiction progressed to the point of using heroin...

I'm the wife of an opioid addict. I watch your videos for hope. 2 rehab trips, numerous jail cells and a nearly destroyed family have driven me to see seek ppl that made it out. Thank you... it's only Jesus and success stories that are helping me to understand that it's not personal and he's not purposely evil... he's simply sick.

Yes he's sick. I'm a recovering addict and it's all bc I hit my absolute bottom. I was 100% out of control and doing things that I would never in life be doing if I would have been sober and in my right mind. Hurting my family and friends 💔 was getting worse. Truthfully I don't remember a lot of my drug days, however, I'm a mother now and I'm a very loving, caring, mother and want the best for my children. Well the last several months of my addiction got so bad that I didn't remember being in my home with my children and I don't remember driving at times. Thank God my children were never in the car with me and people have always been in my life to step in when I got that bad. I was in prison for 5 yrs and I saw women who were in there that were under the influence and killed their own children, grandchildren, and others. I said I would never be in that position. I was to the point that I could have ended up driving with my children and wouldn't even have known it. I couldn't live with myself if I would have ever hurt my own kiddos, anyone at all. That woke me up and I got sober as soon as I found out some of the things I did. I had so much support and love. Addicts need that to be able to see the light at the end of the tunnel. People have to want it tho.we have to get to the point to where we are actually scared to use at all.I work with others who are struggling with addiction and it's very rewarding. I was in my addiction for 20 plus years and it was horrible. Honestly I shouldn't be here right now. I am tho and I have a reason and a purpose. 🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏 I pray for strength. Everyday we try to do better than the day before. 😊 He can do it. He has to want to get better. I didn't want to be alone and lose my family. Something inside me knew if I even considered using one more time I would be alone. No way. I stopped and it was rough but I used nothing for withdraw symptoms. Anxiety was off the chain. I did it. Anyone can.

Oxycontin got me too just like that. An occasional Vicodin Percocet or whatever then someone sold me 15 40mg oxycontins for $75. When those were gone I found myself at the pawnshop selling my favorite guitar and life got ugly. A sober life is the best life even if not a perfect or easy life.

Why the fuck are patients in US prescribed with powerful narcotic drugs for MINOR injuries? Back Here in Europe you can't legally get narcotic drugs from your doctor unless you have cancer or something similar, no way any doctor would prescribe you something so addictive for toothache or back pain. It seems to me US "healthcare" is deliberately producing junkies and addicts.

It's hard to believe to the addict that if he quits there comes a time you aren't fighting an urge to use....I quit drinking...first six months I'd have been tempted to buy some liquor if I found myself in a liquor store...now I could work in one and never even dream of taking a sip despite being surrounded by alcohol...then I kicked pain pills...same thing...first six months I didn't trust myself to be near it or I might cave...now I could sleep on a bed of pain pills and never dream of using any...now that's the key...your not white knuckling...you truly don't want any even if it's free...if you handed me a handful of pain pills I'd immediately flush them...been there done that...dead end road every single case in history...opiates are undefeated...they destroy every time

If you have constant access to real pharmaceutical painkillers, you will get addicted. You just really cannot understand how powerful the opioid family is for the human endocrine system. Even if all your perceived willpower wants to quit and you are dogshit miserable, you will cave in when your body aches and the biggest cravings EVER kick in. Imagine being a normal, well balanced human and by the end of the year choosing your fix over sex AND food. On top of that, you are tasked daily with coming up with pill money and the literal "wise" decision becomes switching to opiates on the street. Crazy. Just stop if you haven't had a taste.
However, your wishful thinking leads you to believe the ideal moderation is once a month. But it is really 0. Also assuming you have no actual pain ailments, sometimes that is a huge factor in continuing painkiller addiction as well.

It's such worn-out BS to keep hearing people talk about how narcotics 'took over my life', or how 'I discovered I had developed an addiction'. Everyone who dabbles in hard dope knows the odds: Once you acheive a really great high and like it, you're already on the ride to becoming a full time junkster. Its such a bad decision: Like sticking your hand in a bear trap to grab some sweet goodie, all the while knowing that there's over a 90% chance you'll be caught and stranded there in misery for a long time afterwards. This BS is so common: Even Keith Richards said his addiction in the 70s started as the result of him meeting some old bluesmen who told him to 'smoke a little of this, snort bit of that', blah blah blah. BS - Even since it was used as a painkiller in WW 1 with the result that alot of servicemen returned home addicted, people have known the danger of addiction with heroin. Right after that, the jazz cats got addiction problems, and Frank Sinatra made that movie 'The Man With the Golden Arm' about those stories. Everyone who gets addicted knows that's the result they are gambling with, and they go for it anyway. Maybe if you want to help people get sober, start by talking honestly about how people get addicted: You already know that if you try it for awhile and you like it, then you are going to become a junky. Then it happens and you feel so stupid about it that you cant even admit to your knowing, purposeful stupidity.
