The culture of the IGN review audience is so strange.
Why the fk is everyone reviewing this game like it’s full blown remake and expect it to be modern ? It’s a freaking full remaster , so treat it like one jfc. Your negatives are literally complaining about it not having modern systems etc…. Like restoring a classic car back to its OG form and then complaining about it because it lacks the modern comfort.
This guy's opinion on whether the game is fun or not is pointless, D2 has been out for over two decades, its well known already that its a great game but nobody said it was perfect. The question is whether this is a faithful remaster or not and it definitely is. Despite this game's real or perceived flaws, its still a hell of a lot better than most games that have come out in the last decade.
A remaster is always faithful... What do you expect a review of a remaster to be if not discussing what could have been changed? "Same game with improved performance, 10/10" and that's it?
That’s why you make your own magic find character. So you can do mf runs to get your own gear. A fact that this numb skull obviously had no clue about.
The fact that he even used the term ninja looting and sat there waiting for others to "be nice" is exactly what's wrong with the gaming genre in this day and age.
A remaster of an old game should not be criticized by its dated features and gameplay but instead by its truthfulness to the source material, especially if the source material was and still is beloved by many people today. This is me and my friends first time playing D2 and we are having a blast. Both solo and coop. You can't speak for an audience you don't know and say that those new to the game probably wont like it. This is a remaster after all. If people go in expecting a brand new game then they are sorely mistaken. It's like criticizing dark souls based on the difficulty of the game and say that newcomers to the series won't like it. This review is unprofessional.
A remaster is always "truthful to it's source material"... That's what a remaster is... So every remaster should just be 10/10? So the best raster is just the old game, because that's the most truthfully to the source possible right?
Games like Diablo 2 escape the brain capacity of the people working at IGN, giving a 7/10 to the allfather of every mordern action rpg, a game with more than 20 years on his back, pioneer in everything that still holds amazingly well by today standards, even if you are just scoring the remaster in itself, is ridiculous. (They gave a 10 to The last of us remastered just to put things in perspective...)

You should've given it a 9 or a 10. The remaster is wonderfully made and it stayed true to the core elements of what defined the RPG genre at the time. It's not a remake but a remaster, and it's a damn near perfect one. This review is awful.
Do you want it to be reviewed as a remaster of the original or as a game in itself? As a remake is nice and faithful, as a game it's aged and flawed and absolutely not a 10 by today's standards.
It's almost like games have evolved and improved since the year 2000? So viewing the game with a modern perspective will lead to a lower score then what it would of got back in the day.
How? Why is everyone upholding respec to this untouchable core feature that can’t be trifled with? If you wanna respec you should be able to do it if not, just don’t do it lol
Bugs bugs bugs. Don't store any valuable item in the shared section of your crate...it gets lost for ever from time to time. I've lost a lot. So much for a REMAKE!
So this game is a refresh of a game 20 years ago. It's not fair to compare it to today's games. Eliminating that aspect, this game is a 9 out of 10, not a 7.
Honestly, pretty fair review listing out the pro and cons with a fair score. Instead of saying why did IGN give this a 7 when they gave Call of War: Battlefield a 9 we should be saying why are you giving generic games far from amazing a 9 instead of a 6 or 7
A pretty brain dead take when you consider that CoD and Diablo are from two vastly different game genres with there own gold standards and expectations.
A lot of this is misleading. You don’t need to diversify your build (that’s ruining a build). There’s no escalating challenges, rather, you mince mobs faster and faster as you progress. Group play is irrelevant if your build is decent (but fun). Essentially, this review does not do the game justice.
This guy really sounds the he's from the current generation that was not even around when this game was out. He seems clueless about this game or how much better this game is compared to Diablo 3.
IGN was never my top review site, but you've been going seriously downhill over the last couple of years. I'd rate your site and staff in their current state a 4 out of 10.

Why did Blizzard make this so you have to be online, even when playing in single player? One of the best parts of D2 was that if you had crappy internet (a common issue in the early 2000s), then single player was always an option! Why didn't they carry that feature over?

Why the fk is everyone reviewing this game like it’s full blown remake and expect it to be modern ? It’s a freaking full remaster , so treat it like one jfc. Your negatives are literally complaining about it not having modern systems etc…. Like restoring a classic car back to its OG form and then complaining about it because it lacks the modern comfort.

True but any gamer would fall into the addictive game play to grind and get stronger.
Exactly.

He's right though
This guy's opinion on whether the game is fun or not is pointless, D2 has been out for over two decades, its well known already that its a great game but nobody said it was perfect. The question is whether this is a faithful remaster or not and it definitely is. Despite this game's real or perceived flaws, its still a hell of a lot better than most games that have come out in the last decade.
Amen brother
A remaster is always faithful... What do you expect a review of a remaster to be if not discussing what could have been changed? "Same game with improved performance, 10/10" and that's it?
"Ninja looting" in a free-for-all loot system, hahahaha what a joke.
That’s why you make your own magic find character. So you can do mf runs to get your own gear. A fact that this numb skull obviously had no clue about.
The fact that he even used the term ninja looting and sat there waiting for others to "be nice" is exactly what's wrong with the gaming genre in this day and age.
Somebody ninja looted his Cleglaw's Tooth.
Exactly!
A remaster is always "truthful to it's source material"... That's what a remaster is... So every remaster should just be 10/10? So the best raster is just the old game, because that's the most truthfully to the source possible right?
If they're charging as much as new games then it's fair to compare them

Games like Diablo 2 escape the brain capacity of the people working at IGN, giving a 7/10 to the allfather of every mordern action rpg, a game with more than 20 years on his back, pioneer in everything that still holds amazingly well by today standards, even if you are just scoring the remaster in itself, is ridiculous. @@feo130 half of what makes Diablo fun is trading items with friends and also finding class specific items for other classes and trading with other classes for items that would help your class. Diablo 3s item system wasn't close enough to Diablo 2s to make it fun. Graphically and gameplay wise it was fun, but the story was dumb as sh*t in comparison to Diablo 2.

Agree not someone from the current generation that only knows the garbage we have called diablo 3.
What's the problem with a fury Druid though?
The skill is bugged and it forces you to miss a lot.
Whatever your opinion, being able to freely respec vs automatically picking up gold is such a mind boggling false equivalence.

A lot of this is misleading. You don’t need to diversify your build (that’s ruining a build). There’s no escalating challenges, rather, you mince mobs faster and faster as you progress. Group play is irrelevant if your build is decent (but fun).
Essentially, this review does not do the game justice.
