How to Fix Stick Drift in a PS4 Controller

- This is the process I use to fix my PS4 controllers when they experience analog stick issues (works the same for both the right and left analog stick).
If the potentiometer (the white disc shown in the video) is damaged and needs replacing, here's an example of what you'd be looking to purchase:

First try non invasive measures. 90% of the time it’s just dust and or small amounts of debris that can be blown out. This is for extreme measures
No dude sometimes from the day one there are some debris in the potentiometers. i hade this experience. but opening the damn thing for the first or even second time is really hard because the lower case doesn't come off so easily. and sometimes the debris can't be blown off because they stick inside the potentiometers.
Yeah I just did this to my PS4 controller yesterday, truly a hassle 😑

But !!
I was able to complete the process & my controller seems to be working just fine & doesn't have stick drift anymore.
I will say my controller was completely clean inside, almost like new. So I'm not so sure if cleaning solved the issue, maybe it could be the simple fact of repositioning the small white pieces inside the stick module.

I'm sorry it was a bother :( I don't think I edited out much of the process- just boring stuff like unscrewing the face plates etc.
I remember my first time opening my PS4 controller, smashed it so hard on the floor that it was totally disassembled, it was very educational experience.. you could tell the parts didn’t work properly anymore.. and now I fix everything myself when it comes to console and pc’s… anyway… Well done on the HOW TO FIX!

Hi kitski so basically when reassembling the joystick on the roght just doesnt stick and fall out any fixes?p
The joysticks I've seen just pop into place so if it doesn't stay, you'll probably need a replacement joystick cap. They should be pretty cheap, I think!
Yeah, all cool, but I got one of those white resistors (potentiometer is the entire green assembly :) somehow invisibly damaged, no matter where place it, that axis is going to start acting up, even when cleansed with 94% alcohol. The only solution is to purchase new resistors from China for a few bucks while waiting a month or two for their delivery, and or to buy entire new controller for $€60. Either method sucks.

Yes, it very well could be. There are also other less invasive methods that you can try as mentioned in some of the comments here- this is just the way I typically do it!

uh oh! :( do you mean the touchpad on the front? Make sure the ribbon cable for that is plugged in, and in the right direction. If any of the ribbon cables are put in the backwards, either the touchpad or the light on the back of the controller won't function properly.

I'm sorry :( you may need a new potentiometer or maybe some q-tip fuzz got in the analog stick mechanism? Sometimes I have to do this process a few times and test my controller on my pc to make sure I get it
