Ok so for those that still have an issue, it might be the one I had. My r2 on my controller kept going off nonstop. Every time I COD or Fortnite my guy shoots without me touching the controller. Sometimes it stopped but he mostly kept shooting. I took apart the ps4 controller. You have to get to the contact points which are behind the buttons, in front of the plastic thats in front of the motherboard. Make sure to take out the r2 & r1 button. Once you get to this clear film, you’ll need Isopropyl Alcohol with cotton swabs. Clean all the contact points with the cotton swab that has been dipped in alcohol. Once cleaned, put back together & it should work as new.👍🏽 Just did mine & it works like brand new.
P.S You might as well clean everything with alcohol to save you future trips from opening the controller to clean it again. Merry Christmas & Happy New Years👍🏽

Thank you so much! I was having a breakdown trying to figure out why it worked in the main menu but not in apps. I pulled the L2 button down and blew into it super hard and saw visibly there was less dirt in that crack. I went into my apps and now it works!! I don’t have to get a new controller!🖤🖤🖤

Managed to swap the springs and silicones of L2/R2 between each other. Now my R2 works perfectly!!! thnx a lot duude!
Showing the screw sizes was very helpful thanks. I think the contact point on my l2 had some dust cleaned out the button not that there was any visible dust. And blew compressed air at the contact point. And bam all fixed responds like normal again.
Is this for all ps4 controller models? My controller model is CUH-ZCT1E and the strings looked like it had a different placement

hey so as i took out the l2 button something broke, mire specifically the little thing ehich was holding the spring down broke and now the spring is not in its correct space what do i do?

Thanks so much for this, man! I didn't think the tape would work but it did perfectly. It might be just a matter of time before I have to replace the silicone completely, though. My only suggestion would be to put the reassembly all together at the end of the video. I had to seek back and forth to find the different levels of diss- and reassembly, to make sure I was doing it right. Again, great video and thanks for the help!
The fact that he showed both models of the DualShock 4 is absolutely awesome👏 my R2 would go off out of nowhere and then stop it wasn’t bad or anything but would definitely cause some issues while playing cod and fortnite so I removed the R2 like shown in this vid and it definitely has some sort of dust inside, it all came out with a little brush and running the R2 under water
These videos were really helpful! I bought 2 very cheap controllers, one with R1 always "on" and the other with R2 not working at all, the first just needed a deep clean on the conductive flex cable with isopropyl alcohol, the other one has visible degradation on one of the paths for the R2 button and the multimeter confirms there's no signal, so I'll order a replacement flex and save 2 controllers from their sentence to the landfill 🙂
What does it mean if the R2 button is less resistant like it goes down and moves way to quickly and the r1 doesn’t it also some times pushes the R2 button even when my finger is of it

I have problem of L1 and L2 and Dpad buttons all of them not register when press only L2 that always pressed while the button not physically press.
I tried clean the rubber pad, ribbon circuit and contact pin but still no luck
What happen to my controller?
Note I'm now ordered ribbon circuit board for replace old one.
U deserve more fame the first method even helped because my L2 was not conntecting correctly sometimes

Thanks. This helped. I was traveling with the controller and the trigger got jammed weird, which made it permanently stuck because the little nub that’s supposed to keep it inside the casing got pushed outside the casing. Upon reassembly the springs were driving me nuts so I tried it back together without them. Works fine so far, will reinstall them if the controller is acting weird. Oddly enough, it didn’t seem like the springs were ever through those side pegs to begin with. So I guess they were just hanging out squished between components.

Thanks man, helping a lot with the cardboard one alone, also pro tip, if you don’t have any cardboard you can just fold paper into a sphere like shape to make it thicker and work the same as cardboard

Thanks for the detailed video! Unfortunately, I couldn't even open the controller, as the screws were too tight (nothing helped lose them), and my screwdriver was slightly bigger than needed. I'll have to get another one.

Just a question is a ''sticky button'' that it doesnt work. Cuz i have a problem with my controller that it keeps clicking after i click on my r2 and l2 button. is that the same as a sticky button or is that something else?

When im playing racing games, the R2 button are not fully press, like when i check on gamepad test, it's only go to 80% press which is make my car minimal speed and not in full speed.

I have my controller connected to my PC to see the sensitivity of each button while doing the cleaning. My R2 button is stuck at full Y rotation. Doing cleaning with a q-tip with alchohol or moving the pad around at all makes no change in Y rotation. I'm assuming that connector is mostly just broken?
The R2 button on my controller is constantly being registered without even pressing anything. This was confirmed when I tested the controller through some software. The whole area around the button is completely and I even replaced the conductive film in case that is the issue but it didn’t fix the problem. I’m lost for ideas….

When i press the ps button nothing happens. When i plug it into the ps4 it just turns blue and it wont turn on (I have used different cables but nothing works). i have held the little button on the back over 5 times and nothing works.
