After 1,500+ miles on my Onewheel Plus stock Vega tire it was finally time to get a new one. I watched a few youtube vids on replacing the tire and I really didnt want to deal with it lol. So I decided to see if a local tire company could do it for me. Well apparently no one wanted to do it....They all wanted to use their machines and since the tire was too small they couldnt do it. I also tried a local gocart place and they wouldnt do it either. Sooo I ended up getting some help from one of my friends and using a 2x4 to break the bead and doing it ourselves. It wasnt too hard honestly...Thanks big time to my buddy Steve for all the help and as always my wonderful wife for helping me with the edit of this video :)
Eric Marshall put another great video together on how to replace the tire:

Hey guys, Sir Carves Alot brought to my attention that I wouldnt have had to use a screwdriver to pry the tire off if I had used the groove on the wheel for leverage... "I mentioned this already but you didn't use the groove on the hub which helps in easy removal of the tire after you deflated and broke the bead. You should also use that groove to get the new tire back on. - SirCarvesALOT Reddit'. Hopefully that helps - John!

Onewheelin' on the plains, nice stuff, WDE! I got a flat on mine, of course, during the plague, so I was lucky to get a replacement tire from C&R but I don't have that valve tool, I think I might be SOL, this looks beyond my comfort zone lol

Ha! I tried to make this video when I switched from the Vega to the Hoosier but turned the cameras off after about 30 minutes because I was sweating and cussing so much it would never have made it on RUclips..... I finally walked away and came back about an hour later and FINALLY got it done but MAN... it was a bitch!! Not looking forward to the next one for sure... I have about 500 miles on my Hoosier so hopefully it won't be for quite a while. Glad you put it up though, keep floating!!

By the way, yes it did feel a little different at first but now I can't really imagine going back to a slick... especially something like the Vega. I'm running around 22-24 PSI and it feels very nimble now. The first few days it did feel a little "clunky" but you get used to it pretty quickly. I just watched the video again because you did such a great job on the edit, but it seriously made me not want to change tires again any time soon! I'm gonna have to find a buddy for the next swap.

i had the same issue, tire pressure should be like 20psi and you have to let it wear in a bit. also riding modes handle differently so I use mission on roads and delirium off roading. you can also use custom to make it a bit more stable but mostly let it break in.

    • @JohnDDyer

Spencer carr thanks Spencer. Yea I have had it down to 20 for a bit now and man it’s waaaayy better. Really liking the tire now especially in the wet!

Your tire pressure should be between 18 to 25 psi 40 is really high IMO.
    Nice vid John!

Thanks man! Yea I just aired it down to 20 I didn’t mean for it to be at 40 lol. Apparently that big ole air compressor at my buddy’s house was a little on the high side lol

I’m at 30 psi on a pint and 800 miles in and my tire is still stock and still looks like it has a lot of miles left on it honestly I think higher the psi the better I wouldn’t go 40 😂

Here's the real skinny on this.
Ive been through it all and using a OneWheel before original was even released.
Regarding tire pressure A REAL ISSUE.
Realize you are on ONE tiny WHEEL, literally. ALL your weight is on this "balancing act".
When you put that into play in your head any set or standard psi does not factor in. What does is "even pressure force". The amount of rubber touching ground and force applied.
In other words if you weigh a lot less like I do you need LESS air in the tire so as not to ride like your on a high-wire and at any moment doing a curve feel like you will plunge to your demise.
Let some air out! More rubber will touch the ground all around tire. Better stability, and safer cornering etc....Viola magic!
Now just reverse that slightly if your a heavier person....Magic again!
Slightly take into account different various tires and to lesser extent amount of tread. I assume why Onewheel uses the "no tread" for this very reason which validates what I'm saying.
Experiment with your "weight to tire pressure ratio" often. CARRY a pocket pressure gauge with you.
If you gain or lose weight you'll need to add or subtract air.
Lastly, test it by feeling the ground under you on a hard flat surface. Before venturing off.
Tire pressure? PSI? Too much air? ..Too little air?.....Forget all that!!.....This is whole new animal, really.
Remember, ANY info on Onewheels comes from experience mainly. Hasn't been around long and mechanics, operation and bugs take time unlike your OS in your computer to work out. As far as I know no book or manual has been published as of yet.
    I go by AJ
    (average joe)

    • @JohnDDyer
      @JohnDDyer  5 лет назад

Wow thanks for the awesome explanation AJ! I have done a little experimenting with tire pressure but during the same ride, I’ll have to get a gage and do some tests. Sounds like you should write the manual ;)
