  • Onewheels can ride off road over any terrain and riding trails is about as fun as it gets. It's the closest experience to that powder day snowboarding feeling. Here are 5 tips to help you get off the payment and out into nature!
Drop a comment with your trail riding tips below! I'm giving away 3 Surestance Pro Footpads, which are excellent for trail riding to people who comment!

Onewheels are made for dusty fire roads, damp forest trails, and sandy beaches. City riding has its perks but this video is all about Off Road / Trail Riding Tips that you can practice at home. Join Cade as he breaks down his Top 5 things to think about when approaching off road riding.
    In Summary:
00:53 - Body and Foot Positioning.
Two of the most important factors when riding off road. Make sure to keep your hips over the tire, weight back, hands up, and ankles loose to absorb the bumps and debris the trail throws your way.
    04:07 - Trail Awareness
Understanding how the environment underneath the board affects how you ride. When approaching obstacles in the trail, it's crucial to "De-weight the board".
    05:08 - Board Setting & Gear
Lowering the PSI of the tire will help you absorb more bumps while off road riding. ALWAYS WEAR A HELMET.
06:10 - Knowing When to Bail
Bail Early, Bail Often. Practice jumping off the board with two feet (two-foot dismount) get comfortable running out/ditching the board so it becomes second nature.
06:55 - Practice These at Home
All of these things covered in this video are obtainable and able to be improved on through practice. Work on ankle mobility, shifting your weight from front to back, and jumping off the board with both feet to absolutely SHRED on your next group ride!
Thanks for checking it out! Stay stoked.

I just finished a 10 mile single track ride, beautiful day, awesome ride! There is nothing like getting out in the woods and ripping. It's just the most amazing feeling. Off road Onewheel riding is hands down my favorite kind of ride. I think it makes you a better more intuitive rider, having to think on your feet. Every time you round a turn, looking at what's ahead and thinking how am I going to get down this. The more you do it your brain is making tons of light speed calculations, left of big root, over left rock right is too big, hit the middle root to jump over the rock. You get the picture. I feel so thankful during these stressful times to be able to got out and tear up the trails. Thanks Onewheel!

My best tip is to PRACTICE my house is up a mountain located on a small island in Spain called ibiza I had been bugging my parents for ages to get a onewheel saying that I could get all the way to school every morning anyway the day came when I got my onewheel and I was so stoked but i was scared of the mountain trail that was inbetween my house and my school so that morning when the day came and my parents told me hey , weren't you meant to use that to go to school and I replied with yes so I got up at 6 o clock in the morning take in mind that by car it takes 10 mins to get to my school and my school opens at 845 anyway I was pumped to get to school and I knew I was gonna get there but I thought it would take me 1 hour so I left at 745 and got there at 815 I remember practicing in the car park till the gates opened and on arrival looking at my watch and being astonished at how quick I had done the journey since practicing every day that trail ride I have done it in under 7 mins I allways wear trousers helmet goggles and a lightweight face mask and most importantly I have an absolute blast doing this ride and it pumps me up for every day at school

When riding blazing a new route of-road for the first time go slow and scout it out carefully, and as silly as it sounds treat all grassy areas as suspect until you've ridden over them. You would think the grass would be on the safer-side of terrain however it often holds hidden dangers, most notably soft squishy wet patches and holes/dips.
My only serious Onewheel injury (knock on wood) came from an unseen wet and squishy patch of grass. The board sunk right in and stopped dead. I did my usual run-off however because it was squishy wet grass I immediately slipped and slid. I caught myself but also dislocated my shoulder! The worst part was the fear of going to the ER during a COVID pandemic, but I managed to get it popped back in at home. My wife was not super happy. ;)

One thing I would add is to “Look ahead”. Especially with off road riding, you need to keep your head up and steer with the eyes.
The more you look ahead, the more information you process; with more information you make better decisions.

Love that you pointed out not to “muscle” the board into going where you want. Riding a onewheel is all about respecting the board and its physics. Once you understand how it reacts to different things, and how you can react to its reactions, riding it will be more beautiful than you could have ever imagined

I find that keeping the carveability above 3 helps with off roading. Also, I have 2 custom settings that I use, along with delirium. I have 11 aggressive and +3 carve, with either +2.5 nose high for going up steep terrain, or a -.7 nose low for going down steep terrain. I use deliurim for everything else off road.

Drop that PSI too, I like riding around 15 on dirt and single track. It can get sketchy if you have a higher PSI and you're riding rough terrain, your board will bounce like crazy over every little bump.

I second the frequent bailing suggestion. The board is a tank and will withstand a tumble much better than your body can.

When riding offroad I've found the following helpful (especially while learning):
-Think of picking your line as a problem solving game, the path of least resistance may not be the most fun but its probably your safest bet.
-Deep carves & mud (or real loose ground) don't mix, Float light when you find yourself on sketchy surfaces
-Bring a plastic bag & pick up a few peices of trash along the way, that way when you get the inevitable dirty look from a biker or trail walker who may be questioning the legality of your 'motorized vehicle' on said trail at least you know in you heart you've left that place better than you found it.
... currently riding stock footpads offroad but I fingers crossed that will change thanks to this post🤞🏼

Just got my first OneWheel yesterday, the Pint! I’m 48 years old but, no exaggeration, I’ve been like a kid on Christmas Day since it got here. I’ve already got 10 miles on it.
I’ve taken a few short trips of about 3 miles each. I’m also practicing tight circles and figure 8s just like this video says to do. I have also found it helpful to practice going up and down driveway bumps to get the feel for what it’s like to take a very big bump. Since I plan to begin using my Pint to get to and from work (about 4.5 miles) when the quarantine is over, I’ve also been practicing riding with my full backpack (MacBook, iPad, camera gear, etc.). It’s a very different feel with that weight on my back, especially getting going. Once I’m up and cruising, it’s not much different.
Thanks for the tips and for making such an awesome product!

Great stuff, happy to see I was already doing a ton of this. And defo practice slow speed, sharp turns. Did this one day, almost by accident. Tried to trace the work STOP that was painted on the road at a local slow intersection, for nearly an hour. Rode that whole charge as slow as possible, working on tight heel side and toe side turns. Noticed the next day that I was a lot more confident and comfortable on the board after the slow turns session. So, now I do that every couple of weeks to build up strength and confidence with the Pint under my feet. 400 miles in since November, and still getting better every day!

Having just come off the board pretty badly this week trail riding, I'd say it's really important to keep your eye on the terrain you're about to cross. It's easy to get distracted by pretty surroundings on a trail, but if you're going fast and not ready for a sharp dip in the trail or a big stone, you're coming off the board

Awesome tips. Off road rules. I found keeping the knees bent and shoulders relaxed have helped me a lot too. I took a wicked fall on my right shoulder in Hawaii in Molokai. Couldn’t ride for weeks. Got back to Canada. Snow melts and I’m at it again. This time with slot more respect and awareness. Like Tai chi on the go! Will a 51 year old man ever learn? Love you guys for inventing such an incredible ride!
    Keep it rolling!

Love this video 🙌🏻 It’s also important to stay aware of the trail length/steepness/battery level to avoid having to carry it. & lean back going down steps.

Just got an XR a few weeks ago. I live a block away from a park with miles of wooded trails between two different rivers and I've been riding them hard. It's been a super good two weeks. My dog is actually loving it too! Best purchase I've made in as long as I can remember.. I've been riding in Mission for the most part, but whenever I'm on the trails I switch over to Delirium, and that feels more tight and I don't feel like I'm going to turn into the trees after coming out of a weird dip, or something similar.

I’d say keeping your ankles loose and letting your legs absorb the bumps is one of the biggest ones to learn. Definitely helps going through a lot of the bumpy trails that I go on. Just got my helmet and I’m excited to make more videos. It’s always good to pick a line before going over a section, too! I’m always looking for spots where a wheel can fit through

Amazing way of explaining. I am a relativity new rider and have about a total of 20 miles under my belt. Trails are really fun I have a bike trail in my neighborhood park that goes for miles and I ride there. It’s no real off road trail but really fun. I have to try my hands up. I’m also gonna work on my heel side turns. 👍

2:20 omg im so happy. I've felt so dumb throwing my hands up when i hit something rough im not expecting and was actually gonna try to curb that habit but that makes me feel so good to know that really good riders still do that too

Environment is everything! Always keeping the eyes on the path and scanning every object and being prepared before each encounter !! I remember riding the onewheel in the first 2 days it was amazing but once I had my first ride on a trail that's when I fell in love and was amazed with what this invention could do !! I never get bored this is the best toy anyone in this life could have ! As a kid I always wanted that feeling of snowboarding on land! Best part is onewheel crush hills like butter !!! It will forever blow my mind and I'll forever be here watching and learning from all of you at onewheel!! Thinking about getting another onewheel and would love to try out the off road gear ! Thanks for everything!

I have learned to Respect the OW and it’s basic limits. I sometimes get over confident and that’s when accidents happen for me. I now where gear to help me with those falls so I can shred more. Don’t get me wrong a certain amount of pushing the limit is what gets you better. Little by little while having a blast! #tahoetrailshredder

Hi OneWheel my trails skills are sometimes to either slow down or fast depending the trail. Visually analyzing your trail conditions for safe riding. Always with gear on. For protection to enjoy floating. ➖⚫️➖🤙🏻🔥🔥🔥

This kinda goes along with practicing bails. Practice the infamous "nosedive". No I don't mean push your board as fast as it goes til you get ejected off the front. Instead, find a steep hill(grass would be ideal) and try to climb it. Go with moderate speed but keep in mind that the first few times you will likely fall off. But try to keep the board going even when it kind of "gives out" on you. You'll feel the nose start to dip. Try to get get pressure back on the back foot and keep it up. This will help you in the long run and is a big help in keeping you from getting hurt.

Having lived and riden all over Oregon including Hood River and Bend, your video is exactly right. I would play a bit with tire PSI (same for beach). Other than that it is all PRACTICE PRACTICE PRACTICE. Once you get a few hundred miles on trails it will become second nature to adjust for upcoming terrain as you float into the wilderness.
