I’m 52 and I demo’d a OneWheel at a car show and was immediately hooked. I had seen your video, and now that I have one, I just watched it again. Great information, and spot on. Today I’m going to try some more advanced shaping and see how my riding improves.
What good advice. I actually bought the xr and returned it. The issue I had but it didn't look like it bothered you, was the size of our feet. Like you, I'm tall with big feet so for the front for pad to work, our toes have to overhang the board. I like to ride with the ball of my foot, but the motor would not disengage. I just kept going backwards.
Great video, I am 60 almost 61 and just finished my first ride 6 miles, gravel, dirt, pavement, and some very steep hills. The steep hills were the hardest for me, 8 to 10% grade. I am Hooked.
I am an out of shape 43 old and not a board sports guy. It took me a few days but now I am obsessed with it. I am on the pint and blowing through the trails around here is zen like. Love it.
45+ years old and bought one last year. Good points you had. If you want to learn the fast stop by taking your front foot off, try that on grass. Makes it easier but good tips. All true. I stopped using running shoes and wear my Classic Converse chucks. Reminds me of Ice skating in that my feet were dying for the first few months until they got stronger.
54yrs old got a onewheel and ride pantano wash bike trail at about golf links all the time. I love the thing I look for any reason to get out for errands.
There's always a reason when the ow+ board corrects you. That's called pushback when the nose comes up. It's pretty much a warning. I can only recommend you getting more miles and experience with the ow+ with on Mission and cruise if you just started. The more aggressive digital shaping modes like delirium with top speed have low threshold for pushback. Means you can go fast and the board will not correct or warn you with pushback or at least not often . Many people step on it and go full speed which can be really dangerous if the board engine turns off.. if you power through and step on pushback and suppress it the motor may turn off at high speeds, Downhills etc because it's overloaded and you may get really serious injury or even die. The ow support boards are full of stories of people who really really hurt themselves on delirium. Torn lungs etc. You have to understand the engine and the pushback and get a feeling for electric side of the board to avoid injuries. Protective gear won't save your bones if you nosedive at high speed. Im talking from experience with shoulder injury from that ow+. I'm experienced snowboarder but I didn't know all technical limits of the ow+ and that may really crush you if your nose dives into concrete at 12mph or more. Read all you can about this matter. Also never step on it with full weight on the nose when board is getting going . Start speeding up evenly until you reach your desired speed or the engine may turn off if you try to start like a rocket. Happened to me. Put all my weight on front to start really fast and it went few yards and turned off. Electric motors don't like that. Nice nose dive and busted shoulder smashed into concrete. I was too comfortable with it because of snowboard experience and i already was going fast on flat but didn't know stuff like that the engine can turn off if you overpower it. Don't start fast uphill and stuff like that. Can't speak much for offroad. Rode a lot of flat surfaces with much elevation. Stay safe...get a lot of feeling for pushback and a good stance before you go all fast on delirium... to quote the @onewiththewheel "The problem in my opinion (I've just eclipsed about 250 miles on mine) is that it feels so good, that it lures you into a false kind of confidence. This is especially prevalent when coming up against pushback - I've crashed mine at 18 and 16 mph and they were pretty rough. I would say if you are pushing into those speed ranges it is more dangerous than skateboarding." yeah thats it...always keep in mind that the engine can turn of and this thing will nosedive even if you dont crash because of your riding skills or something
first day I got my board I was being too cocky and had a motor shutoff at 27 mph.. was only wearing my helmet so I had some very very nice road rash to say the least, surprisingly didn't break anything tho :)
Sorry but i have to correct you.. I had several nosedives in mission mode but not a single one in delirium. You can read the same in the official onewheel forums!
A Z I don’t think what you experienced was the motor turning off. I think what happened is the brains of the self balancing mechanism couldnt compute and quits causing the nose dive. I know that my board was still accelerating when it dived because I felt it and can see the sliding damage on bumper. The motor definitely did not stop. That would be grounds for lawsuits. Until we really know what Future Motion has sold us we should be filming if possible
I, too, am 39, and I have had my OneWheel+ XR for three days now. Out on the rail trail today I had my first real, actual, fall at speed. I had the board on the most conservative shaping mode ("Sequoia," I think?) so I wasn't going faster than maybe 8-9 mph, but it was not fun. Yes I had a helmet AND wrist guards on, and judging by how much plastic got chewed off the wrist guards I'm glad I did! I fell victim to the infamous "speed wobble" and I failed to do a proper jump to bail off and down I went. Now, what I wanted to say here is, I believe this happened because my ankle and shin muscles are fatigued! I have not felt actual soreness; I am also a fairly athletic guy, I do a lot of general bodyweight exercise, and I haven't felt the "oh my god burning legs" or Jell-O legs from riding this thing, but I can feel that my response is looser and the muscles are just not as "tight" when I'm on the board. This is a long way of saying PAY ATTENTION to how you're feeling on the board and if you feel loose or sluggish in your ankles (especially) and TAKE A BREAK, like take a day off, and recover back to full strength. Don't do what I did and push it and end up flying off the thing.
Thank you so much for this video! I'm 38yrs old and just bought one the other day. It's much more difficult than they made it look and I come from a Skateboarding/Snowboarding background. Unfortunately, I haven't done either of those things for about 15yrs!! I'm excited to really get to know my Onewheel and do some serious cruising. Good to know I'm not the only 'nearly' 40 something interested in this!
I got my Pint in today and I agree with everything about the safety precautions. I hurt my knee a little on my first day, today, I was riding on grass and wasn’t even going fast and wiped out and the shock from hitting the grass alone made my knee crack and it’s been on ice since. This thing is crazy fun. Knee injury doesn’t seem serious at all I can still walk around and it really doesn’t even hurt just a little swollen and stiff. I would of got this injury if I had on knee pads or not so I just wanted to make it clear that there are plenty of other injuries to receive hahaha. But all in all, this invention is legit, like nothing else you’ve ever felt
Great video from a good perspective. We’re about the same age, and I’m also a tall guy who was all in on an electric bike as a secondary form of transportation when I came across the OW. After a few videos, I just plopped down my $$$ on a OW GT. And it came down to people looking like they’re having more fun on OW. This was the perspective I wanted to hear from! Thanks.
Learning to carve will help with the fatigue in your legs - you don't need to carve super deep but doing so will continuously change up the muscles you're engaging to support yourself. Works wonders!!
As a 40 year old with reasonable skateboarding experience, I can tell you that the Onewheel+ is fairly dangerous and you are right to warn that you will eat it. Wristguards and helmet are a must - I posted a video after a 16mph no wristguard wipeout where cheese grater gravel ate my hands. The problem in my opinion (I've just eclipsed about 250 miles on mine) is that it feels so good, that it lures you into a false kind of confidence. This is especially prevalent when coming up against pushback - I've crashed mine at 18 and 16 mph and they were pretty rough. I would say if you are pushing into those speed ranges it is more dangerous than skateboarding. Even as a seasoned skater my feet get sore on long rides (at 165 lbs I can get almost 9 miles on mine :)), but I do have to mindfully become aware of my legs and feet and relax them mentally which makes a big difference.
I have a Trotter and I max out at about 11mph and I feel like I'm always ready for a potential Wipeout and so far I've managed to mainly stay on my feet. Just ordered the new XR and I probably better get a helmet now.
I'm 43 but am a pretty advanced snowboarder. To me the OneWheel is the greatest invention ever created, it's just so much fun and I ride it everyday. Great video, good tips, keep it up!!
I'm 34. I used to skate & snowboard as a teen and preteen. After decades of being out of sports and sitting on ass in front of a computer, I have lost the majority of my core balance and strength. 6'2 165lbs. I got an XR and I love the thing. 140mi and 23.3mph since I got it, about two weeks ago.
Joo Ish how's it feel compared to snowboarding, debating between this or the boosted stealth but hear those things turn like Caddy's and think I'd prefer a tighter turn radius.
I tried both but only for a short amount of time. The OW is very high off the ground but it has that huge wheel which can go over anything. Boosted is exactly the opposite. the OW looks like it's more fun though and also more dangerous. Also look into electric unicycles, they are interesting
Gonna do it.. I’m 56 and retired. Got my Realestate license and first closing is 2 weeks away, it’s my “congrats” for completing my first sale. Chasing after my 5 year old granddaughter on her bike, going to planet fitness to work out, and on the beach of RP.. thanks for the video and feedback!
just got mine a couple days ago. Was practicing on mission and got the hang of it for 2 hours in the park riding it around the block on smooth concrete surfaces with no bumps (got 5 miles of riding time with no falls). With a boost of confidence I thought I was ready for the bike lane on the main road while cars were driving by next to me. Was going on mission mode about 11 miles an hour and there was a huge ditch in the ground and I lost my balance ended up landing on my feet but I couldn't keep up and did a running fall and landed on my shoulder. Thankfully I had all protective gear on (helmet, wrist guards, knee guards and elbow guards) but still hurt my shoulder for the past 2-3 days and it's still sore inside. Kinda scared to ride it again but I'm gonna practice more on smooth surfaces now for about 10-20 miles before I take it out on the streets. Word of advice make sure you practice a lot before you take it off road or near cars or anything because its different when you ride by yourself when no one is around than riding with obstacles/pedistratons, cars, bumps and what not. Always wear protective gear then starting off because you can get serious injuries if you do something dumb.
Thank You!!!! Finally rode it today for real and felt like I was sliding off the board like you did. Thought I was crazy! Will try skater shoes tomorrow! Wish I saw this a week ago when I started. Thank you. I am 52 and have no boarding xp either.
Great video. I'm like you as far as age and experience. I have 200+ miles now. As far as slowness goes, once you have miles on your board, you do really well at slow movement and turns. It just becomes natural.
Great video, thanks bro! My Onewheel gets here tomorrow, got the helmet, gloves, but didn’t even think about the flat soles on shoes. Shopping on Amazon for skater shoes after this. 44 years old from Utah who hasn’t snowboarded in 8 years. let’s see if I still got this🤘🏽
Nice, I've watched a butch of videos about the onewheel and none talked about the goofy/ regular option on the app, I also ride goofy, I already have a onewheel and I concur with everything you said, I took a Nosedive riding kinda hard on mission mode (had all the safety gear on, it's a must with this beast). Still need to try the delirium mode, hopefully it works better for me too. No matter what I love it, can't wait to ride on all the new places this board will be able take me...Thanks for all the info!
Nice video thanks. I had an electric skateboard for the last couple of years, but i was limited on where i can ride. I was thinking of getting an all terrain e-skateboard, but have decided to go for a one wheel instead. I’m OK at snowboarding so hopefully I’ll pick it up OK. I’m 42, and more interested in carving than going super fast.
I bought a $600 Chinese knock off a dandan board. At 35 I wasn't sure if I'd like it or use it. An didn't want to spend $1500 dollars as I have 2 young children. I must say it's awesome an 3 years of owning it. I'm not disappointed I bought the knock off. It also has 3 settings depending on skill. Built in Bluetooth speaker and a application to track speed distance and battery life. Which last me an hour and a half easy but I'm 6'1" at 165 lbs. Has brake and head lights. You'll love it when you get it! I'm not a skater or surfer. But I have decent balance took me maybe an hour to get. Made my wife stand in front of me with hands out to help with balance at first. Now I jump off foot high ledges. Good luck have fun you only live once!
great video dude! I ordered one should be here tuesday- 48 years old, little skate boarding but mostly skiing in my past. Im a farmer now and do miles and miles walking back and forth during the day. usually for a screwdriver or something.....seeing this answered some questions for me coming from a similar point of view. Im no great board rider. I actually welcome the core and legs exersize that is fairly low impact on my bad skiing knees. I am in better shape now than I was in my 30's and I hope this will step that up a bit.
Late to the party of this vid but I've been thinking of getting in at the entry level Pint OneWheel, it's a huge investment for me though, but summer is approaching in Australia and I want to get out and about more. I get it's an electric motor, which takes a lot of the work out of traditional skating, but do you find there are any fitness benefits to riding the OneWheel regularly, aside from getting more fresh air and sunshine?
Unprofessional Gamers the pint is a great choice! I personally feel like I got a bit of a workout after doing a decent ride on my XR. There are still a lot of physical activities going on while riding the OneWheel. Balance, stance, adrenaline Etc...
@@ManShed thanks for the response, it sounds like it'd really work out your core! And thank you for sharing your perspective too, it was very helpful! It's awesome to see a lot of people on the bigger side like me in your comments talking about their plans to start riding, and the rest of your fans being nothing but encouraging. I'm seriously considering the Pint with plans to upgrade to the XR+ (or whatever the flagship board is at the time) if I'm still using it in a year or so.
Thanks for covering all of these concerns from a non-board rider's point of view. Been considering getting one but im not sure if I can ride it in regards to what you just covered. This really helps out!😁👍
Thanks, man, this video was super helpful to me. I’m 51 and I don’t board. I’ve snow skied and water skied, back in my teens. I’ve been wanting a Onewheel for a couple of years, since I was hiking and two guys came whizzing past on Onewheels. “Whoa! What was that? I want one!” What’s been holding me back is the price, plus being unsure if this old dog could learn that new trick. So thank you for reviewing it from a perspective closer to where I’m at in my life journey.
I'm 60 yrs old and bought one ! Did I just make a mistake ?? I used to be a champion skateboarder back in the 70's ! I rode the Onewheel on the grass and wiped out several times ! I tried it on pavement and landed on my back ! I want to give it a few more tries on the sand ! Thanks for the video !
Dude thanks for the video got one for Xmass but it's on backorder in till March. Im 47 6 2" I was worried about my size but after watching your video no more . This is the first video i've seen shows a real person ridding a one wheel thanks for all the tips!!
found this video in my recommended feed, and clicked on it only to find i already liked this video! turns out, this was prob one of the vids that convinced me (also in tucson az) to get a onewheel! been commuting a couple miles to and from UA campus every day for the past 8 months now!
I'm not getting any fatigue of legs since like day 2 of floatlife. Just relax them more. Let your ankles and knees go with the bumps as they come. If your toes are tense you are tense and your calves will hurt
I'm 53 and the onewheel is the best and most fun, freeing transportation I've ever had. That includes everything from the scooters to skateboards and those crappy hoverboards. I'll be buying the XR soon.
Thanks for sharing your thoughtful analysis. I want one so bad but at 68 years old, I feel this former snow- and water-skier and avid skateboarder and bicyclist's active years are at an end. I might have a few years left for something like this but hate to drop $1800 just to find out I'm no longer fit enough. Damn, life just ain't fair. I wish they had these things 10 or 20 years ago. If you are under 50, and ever rode a skateboard, you NEED one of these. P.S. I'm a goofy foot too.
53 here, st day out with 40 mins on the board and had my first nosedive at 23.3mph. Too fast, but it's sooo smooth...rider error I'm pretty sure, going uphill and not tuned into feedback yet. Had my wrist guards on so just a bit of road rash... road the sucker home another mile of course after I composed myself.
Nice PSA - I'm 47 and also a skier-not-a-snowboarder type. I just ordered an XR "for my 9 year old surfer son." I fully intend to school him on this thing, and with your observations believe I can!
Super helpful video as I'm in my 40's (never been a skater/surfer/snow boarder) also and have been looking at getting one of these. Well, the pint or XR. Thanks for sharing your experience. Greatly appreciated!
Thanks for the video, I took your advice and I've purchased the one wheel and it's the most unique ride ever! Take the time to Invest in good safety gear and ride with caution! Helmet, wrist guards, knee pads, elbow and skater shoes! This board is no joke, you CAN NOT run off a sudden/abrupt stop you will go flying. 129 miles in, and my board did an abrupt stop/ felt like a power outage nose down and sent flying on to the concrete I laid there in agony. I was taken to the Emergency room for a dislocated and broken shoulder. It's not the flying that will hurt you it's the gravity and sudden stop :( ...enjoy and be safe! PS. Make sure you take your wallet, cell phone and health insurance card with you! It's not if you are going to need it, it's when. I would highly recommend having a plan on how you are going to to bail out in an emergency situation it will come up trust me.
I know what you mean about the wrong muscles suddenly. I have a a bad knee that wont quite handle the wide stance on the XR. Helmet, wrist guards, dirt bike body armor, and knee pads. Respect the wheel
Great video...thinking of picking up an XR soon. We are about the same size, but what size shoe do you wear? I wear a 16 and was wondering if that would make it difficult to ride? Thanks!
Thank you! My shoe size is 14 and they do hang off a bit like you see in the video but the board's platforms are generous. The key is if the ball of your foot in the back and the space before your toes can make contact with the board you will be able to activate the on switch.
Hey Mike first of all you remind me of a past great friend! Nice house and a killer Vett! Oh yeah who is the band playing in the background? Great video thank you for your honesty!! When you talk about balance and footwear, how to dismount is really key to folks out there who are thinking about purchasing this incredible technology!! Be safe and 😉
Great video! Lots of great info. I don't own a OneWheel but I'm 35 and I just bought an Evolve Bamboo GTX electric longboard in January. I haven't been on a skateboard since I was a teenager. I've been practicing here and there after work during the daylight hours and getting more and more confident, and I'm having a blast. I have a lot of the same experiences you're having... feeling burning in my calves, achilles, and soles of the feet from the way you have to balance on the board. I haven't left the neighborhood yet because I live in a pretty urban area in South Florida, but I've gone on a couple 5+ mile rides and I'm really starting to love it. Thanks again for sharing your experience.
Film Runner Media that’s awesome! Good for you! I’ve been tempted to try the board style ones but the small wheels wouldn’t do well on our roads around my house. I’ve now got the OneWheel XR on its way and going to go for much longer rides.
This is a really fun Rube Goldberg contraption full of band-aids and after-thought add-ons. I thought about buying one so I checked out a lot of youtubers for their reviews and opinions. They all love it BUT the most common sentence is "you will go down if.." and all of them got hurt, some badly enough to brake bones. When this thing nose dives and digs in, there's no way to recover. Some complain that it nose dives for no apparent reason. Someone added tiny leading edge wheels (another band-aid). Being perpendicular to the direction of travel means you're flung off sideways at high speed. It's not particularly stable laterally either. Just getting on and off it requires special skill. Can't go too fast or you'll nose dive, position your foot just so or again, kiss the ground. If you're tired, you'll eat it (Micheal speaking at 13:23 in this vid). The list goes on. It's clear this is a work in progress and good luck to the buyers. May your journey be safe. I'll stick to inline skates and my E-board until they figure how to work the bugs out. This thing in its current iteration is dangerous.
Great video! Provided a lot of points that lead to my first OneWheel purchase. Similar situation...taller, heavier, older guy with no board sports experience, but just love the feeling of flying on it. Spot on with the calves hurting. Resting and stretching is key! Also, the OneWheel community is very supportive. Loving my purchase so far. Thanks for the help!
My buddy has broken ribs and also a shattered hand not to mention scabs and bruises pretty much everywhere. I will get one but you got to where full protective gear. I plan on putting my mx gear on. And I’ll be practicing on the dry lake bed haha.
Michael - Been a year and half since you go your OW. Any other thoughts on it as a purchase? Are you still using it? And, beyond a helmet and wrist guards, what other padding would you recommend people getting. I'm thinking about getting one for my 55th b-day next week, and have been on boards all my life. But I want to avoid injuries as much as possible. Have had a lifetime supply of them!
Hey guy seen you on here for years and thanks for your helpful vids and input we need more guys like you.b Just wanted to add my two "sense" on the soft vs flat shoe thang. So interestingly my opinion changed with experience. In other words I was at a level for the longest time where if I didn't wear my vans I was all over the place and out of control with my New balance or Hoka's. Wasn't even a thought Flat Vans ornI didn't ride , period. To keep this short I'll just say now as I edge up to 16k between four boards. I Cannot do what I do or have the Superman control I need nor ride as long if I wore my Vans. Truly I would challenge you to try it again. This time know you have everything you need now I got head as a good rider and all your special little One wheel leg muscles have developed and now are ready to try out your flight shoes. I can NOW do things at 52 no one has done or at least have yet to see anyone else attempt. I'll just say the springyness and roll room I'll call it enables me to have much more range I EVERY WAY over flats. Flats are handy with flightfins. They just snug-uo better so course control is better. Ok,be safe all . And remember above all always always always KNOW TERRIAN AHEAD NOT YOU IF YOU MUST WALK IT FIRST. MANY EXAMPLES WHY BUT HERE'S ONE FOR FREE. YOUR RIDING AT NIGHT ALL IS FLAT LIKE BUTTER YOU WAITED AND LIVED FOR THIS. WITH A COOL NIGHT BREEZE THIS IS HEAVEN YOU FEEL SO ALIVE QND AWAR.......E......!!!@)#)$+$(@!!!!!! YOU JUST HIT A SPEED BUMP THAT EVEN LOOKING BACK YOU STILL CAN'T SEE BECAUSE ITS UNPAINTED!!!! WERENT THEY SUPPOSED TO BE PAINTED YELLOW???? NOPE AND DONT EXPECT ALL WILL BE GOOD BECAUSE THAT MAKES MORE SENSE . ACL hurts bad then there's surgery and waiting a whole week after surgery to get riding again. Crap!, Month later and did it AGAIN to other leg now. Last thing and very important. I know how to just let go and fall and had my ego been on break I wouldn't have cared about how so looked falling or trying to ,," run out the accident" to look cool or not as embarrassed because that kind of pressure I asked of my body was ridiculous and although I tried to save some embarrassment at 5he very 3nd I fell anyway. Everytime. This is a one wheel device! It's basically a "seesaw" on one wheel and some of us actually know that and God bless us we venture out again anyway. Well, sometimes love hurts. Hurts real bad. Just Glad I haven't quit and probably will still be riding if it means I'll have to strap a lawn chair to my board like those other guys who have done it 😊
Try EUC, you may like it even more. If you need advice which one, can advice. Have 20K on my wheels. I tested and rode One Wheel as well (original + many copies) but stay with EUC for it is much more efficeint.
I completely agree. Hop on a King Song, Gotway, Inmotion or Segway. I’m on a KS16S, cruise along at 20MPH and I bought it for my 50th birthday. This guy would do a lot better on a King Song 18XL-that’s my next wheel so I can cruise at 25 MPH and sprint when I need to as well as go 70+ miles :)
nice video. another way to get off, rather than lift your heal, just turn your foot out, keeping the heal on the board, and turn your foot out, does the same thing to turn motor off, and you don't have to lift your leg as much
Ok, I just have to talk. I'm 60 plus. Good on the skies and snowboarder, I surfed for 40 years until a shark tried to eat me one morning. Got a one-wheel plus and i'm having a blast with it. This is a great video as I'm 6' plus and around 200 lbs. Every thing Mike is talking about is right on. Wear protection gear as the one-wheel is not a toy it's a street surfing machine. Like the warning sign at the top of a black diamond says "You Can Die". Have fun.
Agreed! Best comment ever...you almost got eaten by a shark and now you ride a onewheel. Hard to beat that story. "Surfing in the ocean with sharks...you can die." :-P
Awesome vid!!!!!! Quick question , how is this board with back leg fatigue ? I've got a couple electric boards and have ridden a bunch ( haven't tried this one yet) and after longer rides ( like 12 miles plus) ,even on the evolve gtx bamboo with inflatable tires , my back leg and heel is dead, just from the vibration I guess .
Biggest tip(s) I can give for non-board riders, keep your toes flat! You will have a tendency to try and "grip" the board by curling your toes down, this won't hold you on the onewheel better, it will throw off your balance and make life harder. You need to trust your shoes and the grip tape, with small smooth movements your feet will stay on the board. Secondly, feel free to experiment with your stance and foot placement when getting on, having a comfortable stance (angel of your feet) and having a good position on the board will make a huge difference. I like to have my rear foot perpendicular to the board (90 degrees) and my front foot at about a 45 degree. Make sure your foot placement gets your center of mass over the tire, too far off the left or right of the board will cause you to fight for balance and ware you out quickly. It is an epic experience, ride safe.
Great video, great tips and great Corvette, quite rightly always in the background. You've worked hard to buy it, so I enjoyed looking at it. So now you have to make a video of the Corvette too. Our Government doesn't like these sort of things (motion boards) here in the UK, but depending on the cost, I may say to hell with them. They already banned the Segway here. One thing, although I may have missed the answer, is how long does a charge last for?
Second Unit Aerials thanks! Search CorvetteModz on RUclips and you will find my other channel with my Corvette videos. 😎 The charge varies depending on the elevation but about 6-8 miles.
This should be requires viewing for all new riders. I’m glad to see you found the right shoes and wore safety gear and were riding around 11mph while you were still learning - those are some top common newbie errors! I think your explanation of the shapings falls a little short, but I can totally see why your experience with delirium is what it is due to your height and weight. All the bigger riders were saying the same thing when that shaping was introduced last summer. Overall great vid, peace out and float on!
Thanks for the info, man. Your video is 100X more informative than the Onewheel site. Truly appreciate your effort to inform. One question, though; how does a 6'7" guy squeeze himself into that sweet Stingray?
6:50 Wasnt that just the pushback? If you overexert the will it will push you back otherwise you might end up falling cuz the wheel will just stop if you go too fast.
Since you have bought a couple of things to test out and report on, could you please get a Ninebot c+ and then give a review on it. Maybe compare the Onewheel and the Ninebot. Thanks
10:30 Please don't do this. Just jump of the board with both feet at the same time. If you are not going fast do a kind of jump by just lifting up your feet. Practice this on the grass and you will be able to keep your board standing up right every time :) ( always start on grass. Its harder to do, this way as soon as you think u are ready, the street will be a piece of cake
Welp, I'm sold on this. Really nice review and talk about the board. I've yet to see anything bad said about it, and since I'm moving to a smaller town with poorly kept asphalt it looks like exactly what I need. I have to ask though; hows maintenance on it? I expect myself to clock up some serious miles on it (if I do get one). Stuff will break eventually.
Rosy Unicorn Great choice! Yes this was my primary choice because the pavement around my house is not very even and I wanted something that would handle bumps and grooves. I have had to do little to no maintenance on it over the past several months that I’ve been riding it almost every day.
When I get off my board I come to a stop and then jump off with one foot on one side of the board and the other foot on the other side. (Criss cross) It makes for an easy, and soft, dismount.
Good shoes are always a plus with any sport but I ride my OW+ barefoot, running shoes, flip flops, vans, etc and never feel as though I'm slipping. You may not be use to standing sideways as snow skiing and hover boarding have both toes facing forward. I'm 45 and have no issues but I weigh 190 and been snowboarding, skateboarding, and wake boarding since junior high. I've had a Boosted board for 3yrs but that is now useless since purchasing the OW+. Welcome to the Float life!
At 1:53 you show an off road hoverboard leaning against a wall. What brand/model is that? In your links you do have a link to a boosted skateboard but not that hoverboard. Just curious...
Thanks. Good tips, nice Vette. I’m 61, active and floating around Tokyo. Not much off road opportunities here, but still a thrill to ride.
Neil
How’s riding around in Tokyo
Make sure to ALWAYS have your corvette visible in the background of videos.
Corvette is the poor man's sport car. If he is trying to show off, no one is impressed.
I doubt he’s trying to show off
515brightcat lol first thing I though. Such a trailer trash tool.
@@anthonymogie8083 How is that a poor mans sports car? What do you drive sir?
Anthony Mogie Coming from someone who probably can’t even afford that corvette.
I like how the picture is framed so that the Corvette is casual in the background over his shoulder.
I’m 52 and I demo’d a OneWheel at a car show and was immediately hooked. I had seen your video, and now that I have one, I just watched it again. Great information, and spot on. Today I’m going to try some more advanced shaping and see how my riding improves.
Andrew Gere that is awesome! So glad my video helped and you got a OneWheel!
I just kept going backwards.
cinq tat yea, that happened to me too until I learned the princess toe step. Pushing my knee out and raising my heel made it a piece of cake. :)
Love it.
That’s awesome! Love to hear that
45+ years old and bought one last year.
Yea, absolutely. Way better now since I’ve gotten used to it for sure.
Stay safe...get a lot of feeling for pushback and a good stance before you go all fast on delirium... to quote the @onewiththewheel
"The problem in my opinion (I've just eclipsed about 250 miles on mine) is that it feels so good, that it lures you into a false kind of confidence. This is especially prevalent when coming up against pushback - I've crashed mine at 18 and 16 mph and they were pretty rough. I would say if you are pushing into those speed ranges it is more dangerous than skateboarding."
yeah thats it...always keep in mind that the engine can turn of and this thing will nosedive even if you dont crash because of your riding skills or something
For sure this was rider error. Pushback is built in for a reason.
Ditto! 20 mph slide on your bare hands and elbows is not fun. I’m ordering some protective gear. My wife is tired of all my bandaids. Ha ha
first day I got my board I was being too cocky and had a motor shutoff at 27 mph.. was only wearing my helmet so I had some very very nice road rash to say the least, surprisingly didn't break anything tho :)
I thought you did a good job as Andy Bernard in the Office
Lol
Wow good catch.
Nice
Haha. Was gonna say the same thing.
I'm considering getting a one wheel and I've watched lots of videos. This one is the best! Thank you.
surferjeffer thank you! Glad it helped/you liked it. OneWheels Rock!
You are so welcome! Float on!
My wife thinks i'm nuts! But, I want one. I'm 6'8" 250lbs and 66 years old. The latter is why she thinks I've lost my mind. Ha! We'll see!
Arnie Jacobsen do it!!! Best choice ever. #Nolimits
Get it! Just wear all your gear!YOLO
I get my XRT on Monday and turn 60 on Wednesday. Just want to glide smoothly and safely all over the Valley!
I was 64 when I decided to take up riding a dirt bike/motorcycle. I'm smaller than you, only 6-2 and 260, but do it.
I can see it now, like some old cartoon!
Great video. Said most every thing i was wondering about. Made some adjustments and it rocks.
Thanks.
Andy Bernard giving some solid tips! Great video man, now I want one.
He gave the whole 9 nards!
Learning to carve will help with the fatigue in your legs - you don't need to carve super deep but doing so will continuously change up the muscles you're engaging to support yourself. Works wonders!!
Matt Charnitski totally agree. I started carving more after I made this video and it made a huge difference in the leg fatigue.
OnewiththeWheel great points. Thanks for the feedback. :)
I have a Trotter and I max out at about 11mph and I feel like I'm always ready for a potential Wipeout and so far I've managed to mainly stay on my feet. Just ordered the new XR and I probably better get a helmet now.
c0pyimitati0n I’m jealous!
I'm 43 but am a pretty advanced snowboarder. To me the OneWheel is the greatest invention ever created, it's just so much fun and I ride it everyday. Great video, good tips, keep it up!!
Scott Thomas thanks! Yea, I love it, walk past my corvette all the time in favor of hoping on my OneWheel+ now. 😎😂

David Treichel awesome! Glad to hear. Enjoy!!!
just got mine a couple days ago.
#knowyourterrain
Thank You!!!! Finally rode it today for real and felt like I was sliding off the board like you did. Thought I was crazy! Will try skater shoes tomorrow! Wish I saw this a week ago when I started. Thank you. I am 52 and have no boarding xp either.
Scott That’s awesome! I know I’ll still be riding mine when I’m 52. Love it!
Dude, thanks for the video, I've just topped 120 miles on my XR, and your video helped push myself through the first (really tough) 20 miles.
Fred Greatorex that’s awesome!! So glad you pushed past the first 20! :)
Great video. I'm like you as far as age and experience. I have 200+ miles now. As far as slowness goes, once you have miles on your board, you do really well at slow movement and turns. It just becomes natural.
JR Fent yea, I’ve got about 30 miles on my board now and I can easily just stand still on my board and move very slow. Feels very natural.
I want a self balancing unicycle and now I don't know.
Great video man. I just ordered mine and seeing your experience as a total beginner makes me more comfortable knowing I made the right choice.
Great post, thank you for taking the time to make this video
You're welcome!
Great video, thanks bro! My Onewheel gets here tomorrow, got the helmet, gloves, but didn’t even think about the flat soles on shoes. Shopping on Amazon for skater shoes after this. 44 years old from Utah who hasn’t snowboarded in 8 years. let’s see if I still got this🤘🏽
So right about Delirium & what a difference choice of footwear will make to your comfort & control - thanks for the insights
Nice! Glad you are getting the hang of it. It only gets easier and more natural the more stay co distant with it. Float on!
Yes, your core will be worked. Excited for you and yes, my fans are the best. Love the OneWheel community as a whole.
Thanks for covering all of these concerns from a non-board rider's point of view. Been considering getting one but im not sure if I can ride it in regards to what you just covered. This really helps out!😁👍
Glad it was helpful!
@@ManShed it was very helpful, I got my new OW Pint last Sunday and learning to ride with baby steps!😬👍
I’m 52 and fixin to get one. Appreciate your info!
I want one!”
What’s been holding me back is the price, plus being unsure if this old dog could learn that new trick.
So thank you for reviewing it from a perspective closer to where I’m at in my life journey.
aweesome video, im thinking about buying one as a 36yo with no skate experience so this was perfect info!!
You’re welcome! Love hearing that you are getting back on and riding.
Kevin Choi that’s awesome! Thank you for sharing that. Still ride mine. :)
I’m 55 years old, and have the pint, the xr, msx and msx pro unicycles. Enjoy,
I'm not getting any fatigue of legs since like day 2 of floatlife. Just relax them more. Let your ankles and knees go with the bumps as they come. If your toes are tense you are tense and your calves will hurt
Jan Bateman Temple thanks for the feedback, I’m for sure relaxing more on each ride. Calves are not getting as tight now.
I'm 53 and the onewheel is the best and most fun, freeing transportation I've ever had. That includes everything from the scooters to skateboards and those crappy hoverboards. I'll be buying the XR soon.
Awesome video, 57 years old and can't wait to get one, do it while you can, is my motto, thanks for the great video 👍.
Such a great video! I’m purchasing. Thanks Mansell. You answered all of my questions.
Super helpful video as I'm in my 40's (never been a skater/surfer/snow boarder) also and have been looking at getting one of these. Well, the pint or XR. Thanks for sharing your experience. Greatly appreciated!
Richie Perez awesome, glad to help. You are going to love it!
Be safe and 😉
Bil Tateo Jr thanks! Glad to share my insights. It’s a blast for sure but have to take the risks seriously and float safe. 😎👍🏻👊🏼
This is exactly what I've been looking for. Thanks for an honest opinion on it. I can reevaluate my decisiom on getting one now
Lev glad to help!
I’m 54 skateboarding and snowboarding my whole life tried one last week very easy just got on and went loved it
MrDjh66 you’re so lucky! Love heading that you were a natural on it.
Hello from Rio Rico, AZ. Im 38 and I'm thinking of getting one soon. Do you still ride it after 2 years? Pros and cons? Thanks and stay safe.
I’m in a similar boat as you. About the same age and build. I was looking hard at the OneWheel but I’m going with an Electric Unicycle instead.
excellent video, exactly what I was looking for after dozens of videos, THANKS
You’re welcome!
Excellent video and thanks for the heads up, I’m 45 and just bought my onewheel plus online, can’t wait to ride it.
Oscar Valiente awesome! You are going to love it. :)
Wow! Such an in depth and very helpful video! Amazing job. I'm thinking of getting one for sure now! Thank you!
King Georges You’re welcome!!
Just Glad I haven't quit and probably will still be riding if it means I'll have to strap a lawn chair to my board like those other guys who have done it 😊
That's so true and thank you for the insight. Float on Bro!
I really enjoyed your way of expressing body sensations and the review in general, thanks
Alexey Podolsky thanks for the positive feedback.
Good job. Nice video.
Phil Ackerman thank you!
Excellent information...thanks for the info for us older guys (49 here).
+Out on a limb awesome!!
What are your views on going uphill and mainly downhill. Would love to see a video on that.
Chinmay H the Onewheel + does it Ok but the onewheel XR powers uphill and gives a strong feel of control downhill for me.
Awesome review and tips! I'm 6'8 and 265. I started with the T6 and ready to one wheel!
@Swamp Yankee No difference, I'm 5'10" 140lbs, motor doesn't have to work as hard, you can get more out of it
nice video. another way to get off, rather than lift your heal, just turn your foot out, keeping the heal on the board, and turn your foot out, does the same thing to turn motor off, and you don't have to lift your leg as much
Ok, I just have to talk.
Which is why I stopped surfing as well! Fear of getting eaten!
You Nailed this video. Thank you.
ruffneck718 thank you 🙏
Great video, thinking about a one wheel, I'm 72 but like others have said....one life!
Yes!! You are awesome :)
Thank you! I’m 6’4”” 225 and I’ve been wondering if it’ll hold me. Guess so!
John Knouse yes it will. :) Get the XR though as it has a stronger motor. That’s what I have now and it makes a big difference with our size/weight.
Great video!
Awesome details & points
Thanks for sharing
Nice review but your house steals the show! House tour please!😁
haha, thanks...I might do that. :)
How do you like your one wheel now?? Does it still run?
Dude this is me. Never skateboarded and this was so helpful ty
sheik sattaur glad it was helpful :)
Wow this really helped. I'm a tall guy and this puts my concerns to rest.
matchstik309 awesome! So glad to hear :)
The charge varies depending on the elevation but about 6-8 miles.
don't you have a third channel where you do it for dale?
79demonfire nope
Anyone can get credit ;)
Corvette is the poor man's sport car. If he is trying to show off, no one is impressed.
Super helpful video, I'm also inexperienced in board riding and a little heavier then the average 150 lb skater
Nice!
Sterling Archer Like a Glove. :)
Great video. I'm also big. I'm glad I found your video showing you getting around just fine.
Rob Sbisa :) Next up is the Boosted Rev video. Stay tuned!
6:50 Wasnt that just the pushback? If you overexert the will it will push you back otherwise you might end up falling cuz the wheel will just stop if you go too fast.
not being a skater/surfer , how do you like riding it? stoked? really enjoy it?
Shawn Noonan love it! I ride it almost everyday mostly just for fun. Some days to commune to my office.
Awesome..wish i could experience that..but am so scared.
Practice this on the grass and you will be able to keep your board standing up right every time :)
( always start on grass.
(Criss cross) It makes for an easy, and soft, dismount.
just lift your front heel and it disables, no need to jump
Good shoes are always a plus with any sport but I ride my OW+ barefoot, running shoes, flip flops, vans, etc and never feel as though I'm slipping. You may not be use to standing sideways as snow skiing and hover boarding have both toes facing forward. I'm 45 and have no issues but I weigh 190 and been snowboarding, skateboarding, and wake boarding since junior high. I've had a Boosted board for 3yrs but that is now useless since purchasing the OW+. Welcome to the Float life!
josh a awesome, glad to hear! Yes, loving my new found Float Life! :)
josh a i
At 1:53 you show an off road hoverboard leaning against a wall. What brand/model is that? In your links you do have a link to a boosted skateboard but not that hoverboard. Just curious...
